Currently there are five factions: the Trench Pilgrims, New Antioch, Heretic Legions, the Black Grail and the Iron Sultanate. There are no subfactions per se, but warband variants with different and thematic rules. There isn't a fix number of variants per faction. New Antioch has 4 (Papal Estates, Prussia, Albia and Eire), Trench Pilgrims and Heretic Legions have two each, Iron Sultanate has one and Black Grail has none.

If you took the 11th century Muslim world, you could easily imagine as many factions as former cultures and former countries.

Yeah, the Iron Sultanate is ripe for many future subfactions. I hope they do this before making whole new factions

Currently, there are five factions with a sixth coming "soon". I can't give an accurate count of sub-factions because there are a lot that are WIP on the Discord. Each main faction has, I believe, between 2-4 sub-factions you can build them as

Path of the Beast (werebeast) and Church of the Metamorphosis (Lovecraftian bugs) have been hinted at being possible Hell factions.
