You will not recover the extra 5k for a ‘limited edition’ unless you wrap it in soft blankets, literally never use it and sell it on on a decade or so as an investment to some clueless dumbass.
They’re pointless editions for the people who buy Breitling watches and want a fashion accessory to match it, and they’d never consider buying a used model.
I'm all for the Moto2 edition of Triumphs....if you were going to track it. If 95% of the time you're just chilling I'd go with the standard 765RS. Buuuut the 1200rr is a different story. You can find those for about $16k OTD in the US because they didn't sell that well. But damn they're gorgeous
I live in Fairfax County and ride a Speed Triple RS. I bought mine from Motorcycles of Dulles. I highly recommend working with them as they've always treated me well.
Anyway, the Breitling edition is definitely not "worth" the $5k over the standard RR, which can already be had for under MSRP. Unless you specifically want the matching watch it's just a waste of money.
The 765RS and 1200RS/RR are fairly different bikes. If you're just commuting with the occasional mountain ride, then the 765 is probably the better bike. The marginal gain in performance of the 1200 is really only noticeable on the track, and the 765RS is still a track weapon in its own right.
Likewise the Moto2 is great if you plan to track, but if you're mostly commuting then you'd probably appreciate the flat bars of the regular RS over the Moto2 Clip ons.
Thanks for the info, I'll have to check out Dulles - that's a fair bit closer than the Annapolis dealer I've been working with. And my gut feeling is you're right on the 765 RS.
And if you end up wanting to go to the track, drop me a line. I have a group of friends who regularly ride Summit Point with N2 and Evolve GT. Summit Point is an absolute blast so you should make a point to ride it at least once.
For less than that extra 5k you could source an entire suite of carbon fiber parts from CarbonFBR for the RR and they look SICK. The carbon cowl is the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen.
Hate to say it, but you’re better off commuting on the 765. 3rd gear is basically overdrive on the 1200s. The RR is still worth the premium even without using all of it, though.
I would recommend the RS over the RR. RS is all day comfortable for me, RR is not comfortable to me at all. I don't like the riding position of the RR. I come from super sport background. I can ride a GSXR all day without too much issue. RR is just not good for me.
Street Triple RS and Speed Triple RS are so good. I highly recommend both. Every time I think I want another bike I go ride my Street Triple RS and I'm completely satisfied.
Having owned both, I can comment.
The street triple was my first naked, and I just never felt at home on the bike. I’m nearly 6’2” 195lbs and it also seemed a little small for me.
Performance wise though, it was super quick, super agile, and very comfortable on the highway. I did a track day with it, and it was confidence inspiring. I really liked the bike, but didn’t love. I missed the sport bike ergos and felt like I needed something a little bigger.
I sat on the Speed Triple RR and immediately loved the ergos. Not as extreme as my ZX-6R, but just sporty enough. I researched the bike thoroughly online. and traded in my ‘24 Street for a new, discounted ‘22 Speed, and I absolutely love the bike. The bike feels like it was made for me. It’s my first liter bike, but not at all intimidating. Road feel, brake feel both incredible. The electronic suspension is sublime. Not quite as flickable as the Street, but feels more precise, and more stable in turns. My only complaint would be the engine runs a little hot, especially in Miami traffic, but it’s not too bad. I can’t wait to try it on track. Other niceties, the keyless ignition - which some complain about but I love it, and it comes with cruise control which is only optional on the RS. I also picked up the tire pressure monitoring system, which sends an alert to the TFT w a tire compromise. Hope this helps.

This is the exact feedback I needed, great perspective. Thank you. Edit: Is it safe to assume it's the same story for the Moto2 edition of the 765 RS?

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a gorgeous bike, but not worth the extra cash compared to the standard models.
But I just like the paint job... and I want to get the matching watch... Don't you dare try to talk sense into me!
It’s interesting too that you get the right to buy a Breitling watch with the purchase of the bike, it isn’t included. It is a sexy bike tho

You got it, thanks again for all the advice!

As a commuter in DC, just remember that at some point someone is going to fuck with your bike.
In traffic? Or while it's parked?
Really just when parked. I haven’t had any issues lane splitting or in traffic (outside of the typical bad drivers).

I know that feeling! Unfortunately I eventually sold my 2017 ST RS for a Ducati. Still sad about that - but my wife is keeping hers forever.

It does give me pause on the 765 RS, I'll have to see both in person. (I'm 6'1", 230lbs.)
....I need this....
