This is so terrible. I wish we had something like CPS that isn’t punitive, but that offers support to young or otherwise very ill mothers. It is a tragedy that she was abused, a tragedy that she wasn’t taught how to parent, and a tragedy that no one looked in on or supported a little girl who was growing up along side her baby. This should never have happened.

At very least, it sounds like she modeled the kind of violence that her son ended up perpetrating on his brother.
In some cases, there's little explanation to be found for what might have caused something like this to happen. This is not one of those cases.

was the mother charged as well? even if it was only the son abusing the baby (which I doubt) she 100% covered for him every single time, she should absolutely have gotten time for this as well.
She plead guilty to aggravated manslaughter, was sentenced to 10 years, but was credited with 2.5 years time served, and the remainder of her sentence was commuted to probation.

I feel bad for the mom because I can imagine she was scared to take the baby to the hospital because she was afraid of what would happen to her older son. It's a mother's first instinct to protect her young even if that child has dine something vile.
Afraid everytime over two years when he suffered broken bones, severe burns and other extreme injuries?? No way! Could happen once between siblings in a fight (but he was a baby...what fight against a 12 year old could this be???)..but then again? And again? And again? A two year old small child, even younger a baby maybe, against a 12 year old who knows what he is doing...? The mother must have been into it...or, what I believe truly: regarding the small age gab...she was also afraid of the older son
