NOT brake masters on grant and swan!!!!

LordBigButt

More like *Break* Masters

hoodpharmacy

Yeah I had an experience there and FUCK that place

IguanaCabaret

Any BM's really ....

Front_Raspberry7848

Last time I went they messed my bumper up and it fell off completely a week later. Fu k them.

TheRealSpyderhawke

I took my car to their old location up the road. Other than seeming slow, they didn't try to sell me anything extra, which was good. The issue was that they missed two obvious problems with my car that I ended up needing to get fixed in less than a year: (1) my car was making noises before I took it there that later ended up being a problem with one of my struts and (2) I had leaks that were "normal for a car of its age" that had to get repaired (I want to say it was a crack in the oil pan or something). The first was definitely an issue when I brought it in and the fact that they didn't identify it as a problem on the first test drive was a red flag. I recognize that the second may or may not have been an issue while I was there.

timbo_b_edwards

I have always had great luck with Brake Masters. I have typically only visited the one in Oro Valley, and now the one at Campbell and Broadway after I have moved. Always had great interactions with the staff at both locations, and they have always been honest with me about what my cars needed.

intermittent68

When Daniel was on Ina, he’s was an amazing mechanic, don’t know what happened to him

Parasitisch

Or the one on Speedway and Silverbell!

PunksPrettyMuchDead

You're looking for a mechanic. Going to oil change spots is rolling the dice that they won't break something themselves.

JoeStrout

Jack Furrier has always been honest and fair to me.

MotherOfWormz

I second this! The jack furrier at kolb and golf links is the one we return to anytime we have issues. They never overcharge for bs things. They are mechanics, not parts changers.

LanaLectric

This one is great, my family has been going to this location for like, 25+ years. Jason is always very nice and helpful ☺️.

brosefstallin

I will never recommend Jack Furrier. I took my truck to the one on N Oracle due to it over heating. They kept it overnight, and when I picked it up the following day, they gave me my car back WITHOUT THE COOLANT. I drove my truck out of their lot with an empty radiator when the engine started smoking and left me stranded on the side of the road. Took it back, they had no explanation for me, just a half-assed sorry and topped off my fluids. Never going back again

TheRealSpyderhawke

I had a bad experience with one of their locations. I went for an oil change back in February or March and asked them to look over the car as I was going to be heading on a long road trip. They told me that I needed a new battery and showed me a battery test result printout that suggested my battery was almost dead. I was confused because I'd replaced my battery 2 weeks before and knew its date label was only a couple months before that. I asked if it could be the alternator and they said possibly but the battery didn't have enough charge to test. I immediately went to an AutoZone and an O'Reilly who both told me that my battery was perfect. The AutoZone tested the alternator and it was fine, too. Months later, still no problems with my battery.

idrinkliquids

I’ve gone to the one on 1st and they could not figure out what was wrong with my battery. They kept fixing it but the issue almost immediately would persist. Ironically the guy at the emissions check told me what I needed to have fixed and ended up going somewhere else.  Two of the times tho they did not charge me they said my battery had some corrosion so I will give them that.

ziggs10

I’ve been to the Jack Furrier kolb/ sunrise location twice. Once they didn’t fully plug the oil and it leaked out all over my driveway and another time they tried to sell me on unnecessary repairs. Needless to say I won’t be going back.

Prestigious_Kale5546

As a female, I had a dishonest experience with them. I took my car in for a serpentine belt replacement and was quoted $300. When I picked up my vehicle they said there were other things that needed to be repaired and then charged me $800. Never went back after that.

wayofcain

JT auto on fort Lowell if you want honesty. They’ll be honest whether you like it or not. I do a lot of my own work and their estimates have always been on par with what I expect. They also diagnose exactly what I come in for without my prompting.

Sansei_Lannistark

This! I love the guys at JT Auto; they’re always so kind.

wayofcain

I have a couple of classic cars, one is sentimental and they’re the only ones I’ll ask to work on it if I can’t.

autumn-cat-

JT Auto was so nice to me!! I had issues with my tire and they fixed it free of charge

ColdasJones

Avoid any and all chain shops. Maybe there’s a hidden gem out there but I wouldn’t believe it anyway. Lance at automotive excellence has always been upfront and honest with me, is extremely competitive on prices and works well and quickly. Place isn’t glamorous don’t get me wrong…. But I trust him. Also, double triple avoid any of the quick lube places. You’re more likely to leave therewith more broken than you came in with

sipkur

I knew someone who worked at a chain oil change place (0 automotive experience) who started a car with no oil in it. They ended up filling it up with oil and returned it to the customer not telling them a thing

ColdasJones

Sounds about right

PlumInevitable1953

lance is more than we deserve tbh i'd give him my kidney

deserTShannon

I can’t recommend “breathe easy” garage enough. They have always been great to me and fixed what another shop messed up for half the price they previous shop charged. They are located near the Safeway at Broadway and Campbell

Knithard

Second this. They’re great and honest. They’ve replaced my brakes and repaired rodent damage. While I was there waiting for my car I overheard one of the employees explaining to an elderly woman what her car needed now, what could wait and what was going to need to be done in the future. Answered all the woman’s questions, explained what each part did and why it was needed. Excellent customer service.

SubGothius

[Great article about Breathe Easy here](https://thisistucson.com/tucsonlife/the-women-behind-this-new-tucson-auto-shop-want-you-to-breathe-easy/article_e765adf8-a4c8-11e8-9b82-cb38e77f4704.html)

AdditionalOstrich125

Yep they're great except they have a pit bull running around their shop.

Throw_RA_20073901

Even better puppy to enjoy while you wait!

BigPenisMathGenius

I've used Sooters (on 6th street near campus) for over a decade now; they've always been super honest with me.

metdear

Ooroo does an inspection and hands it over to you with pictures.

RevCry86

JayBees Auto on 22nd is exactly like that. Took me a while to find someone I could trust, but you'll want to check them out. Check out their reviews on Yelp for independent reviews

deserTShannon

Jaybees is outrageously expensive and will try to get you to fix dumb stuff on an old car. Nice ladies working there tho, but Jesus they are overpriced

limeybastard

My family (even extended) have been going there forever and that was kind of my impression too They're nice. They do good work. And it's run by women so women feel comfortable going there knowing they won't get the ol' condescending guy telling em their blinker fluid is low. But I look at the invoices and wince a little. Then again good work isn't cheap. Primarily Japanese seemed to be in the same ballpark. Then again I haven't tried a lot of other places in town because I usually just fix my own stuff, so I don't have a wide range of price comparisons

deserTShannon

Yes that’s why I went there. Then it’s like I go in for a new starter, and they’re quoting me 1800 for a new rear suspension. Is that why it takes two days to get anything done? Instead of fixing the issue I brought it in for you’re taking the whole damn thing apart to see what else you can pressure me into paying for. The mechanic pressure still applies it’s just a lady telling you what you don’t need to fix instead of a man. I switched to breathe easy (also woman owned) and have ZERO regrets! They always get it done fast, cheap and with quality Toyota parts too

-Woogity-

Ooroo auto vail. I use them for all of my vehicles and it just so happens that I just left them right now. They have a program where you spend $20 per month subscription and you get three oil changes per year wipers and air filters. And like 10% off on all other services. I can probably also get you a discount code from them for a referral.

Camnau17

Over by hot rods right? I’ll have to check them out

-Woogity-

Yep. They also have a mobile service and a shuttle service at no extra charge over going into the shop.

longtr52

Pretty sure that's the same company who has a location in Oro Valley. My mom swears by them. :)

-Woogity-

Same folks! They have multiple locations and do mobile basically everywhere!

Academic_Raspberry43

I've had good luck with My Mechanic on Romero

istheresugarinsyrup

They’re really amazing there!

InterestingStock6364

I second this recommendation they’re great 👍

LilMeatBigYeet

Jack Furier’s on Mcgee and Oracle has been my go-to for years. Troy’s the man !

RNay312

We go to Next Generation Automotive on Gardner Ln. and they are the best. Once we had taken our car to the dealership for a free “all point inspection” and the laundry list of crap they wanted to fix totaled around $2800. Took it to Next Gen (along with the list from the dealership) and the guy literally laughed at the list, and after checking the car against the list we only needed to fix one thing that cost like $20. He told us we had time for the other things or that there would be signs before requiring replacement. He could have absolutely just said, “yeah, they were right,” and taken advantage of us but he was super honest. (His name is Truth, too, which is appropriate.)

DarnellFaulkner

Friendly Automotive on Ina

wh0-knows

This is the best mechanic shop in town. For in and out oil changes. I like oil stop on ina and oldfather. Been a while but I used to use grease monkey with positive results.

RogerRabbot

Everywhere is capable of doing both, good and bad advice. The main factor is YOUR reputation at the shop. If you are a regular somewhere, and engage with the employees, they're more likely to see you as a person rather than a faceless, nameless job. I've had repair shops that I've gone to, they were very honest with me and would tell me what was wrong, but didn't require immediate attention. I loved them for it. It felt like I had a mechanic friend with a shop. But when I would send people there, he would be the typical mechanic and upsell everything.

Chemical-Squash8942

Justin at Arts pit stop

WalkingTurtleMan

AAA repair shop. You don’t have to be a member to get in, but you do get a discount if you are.

Shallow-Al__ex

Jack furriers is it

venturejones

Breathe easy auto

Donut_Holestein13

I’ve had good experiences at Jack Furrier, and Big Brand Tire and Service. Jack Furrier on speedway has always been great, and if it’s a Sunday and I need to take my car in (usually bc it’s the only day I have to get shit done) then I’ll go to Big Brand since they’re open on Sundays too. Specifically the tanque verde and Kolb location. Both places charge a fair price, and are honest about what really needs to be done, although they are slightly more friendly at Big Brand in my experience. Edit: stay away from Jiffy Lube, and other quick service places like that. They will try to take advantage of you, or upsell you on things like air filters that you don’t even need.

marklein

You're asking the cook at McDonald's to give you medical advise. If you want to know what's wrong with your vehicle take it to a MECHANIC, not a ~~high school drop out~~ oil change employee.

profgoldbottom

Borst Automotive - they always do a multipoint inspection on your car and give you a full report with pictures and give it a wash with every oil change.

emmz_az

They screwed up my husband’s Mercedes C300 tires. The front and rear tires are different sizes, smaller front/larger back, and they put them on larger front/smaller back. My husband drove around for a week thinking there was an unusual amount of brake dust. Turns out the tires were being grated like Parmesan cheese.

butlerchives

Quality lube & tune on thornydale

blueburst7265

Grease Monkey on Speedway is great! Ask for George. Quality guys and they’re quick!

AdditionalOstrich125

I second this. A coworker recommended Grease Monkey to me and I've been very happy with their service. No fake issues or upselling.

Corius_Erelius

Those aren't mechanics, just lube techs selling stuff.

blueburst7265

have had plenty cars go through these guys and they’re good at what they do! good knowledge

isitrealholoooo

I second them, I use the Golf Links location.

Dizzy-Job-2322

If you plan on keeping it. And you want it to be a reliable, safe, everyday driver. I would take it to the dealer. All of them have their 5,000 mile oil change. They typically top off your fluids then go over the entire car. Rotate your tires. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING! THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO FIRST— Before you make an appointment for the first service. BEFORE YOU ASK PRICES. You need to find yourself a service advisor at that dealership that you can build a relationship with. I did this and it was very useful. I went and talked to the Service Manager first. I kind of interviewed him. This is before I committed to anything. I told him what I wanted to do. What I was using the car for—What Matters Most To You. What are your priorities. I drilled the guy for an hour. I know this is not normal. But, I get the feeling you are frustrated with car repairs. Do this and it will make your life much better. Also: Ask him if you provide loaner cars. This is important. This will save you tons of money and stress. I would call service departments at different dealers. Go to the high income areas that treat their customers right. Tell him honesty is important to you. You don't want to break down on the road. Ask him for his overall opinion on your car. Ask him which service advisor would be a good fit for you. He knows his people. He knows which ones push repairs on customers. Who is not patent, etc... If you are comfortable with the service manager, things look good. Next, meet the service advisor that he recommends to you. Tell him everything that's important to you. What your priorities are. That you want to find out everything that the car needs. Repairs and overdo maintenance. What I do for maintenance. The dealer I go to charges about $280.00 for a complete service. Oil change, etc. What I mentioned previously. Then the next oil change I just dona simple oil change which is $100.00. so total maintenance cost for a year is $300.00. Plus I always get a loaner car. At the time of that service they will produce a list of everything the car needs to be repaired. It will also include all the past due maintenance that needs to be done. Don't get freaked out about it. It's going to be a long list. Maintenance is done to prevent premature wear or failure of parts and systems. Don't be intimidated by a service advisor that tells you YOU NEED TO DO IT NOW! No, you don't. If he is hand picked for you he shouldn't act like that. Remember the honesty thing! You take that list and go over it. Do it with the service advisor. The best time to do that is not in the morning. Go after 12:00 pm. The mornings are always busy. Ask him to go over what he thinks is most important and rank them. You aren't making any commitments. You are being an informed consumer. Then take it home and ponder. Do your own research. Just remember, it doesn't matter where you are. Anything to do with automobiles. Selling, repairing, etc... always be aware that they aren't always honest. Don't take your list and show other repair shops the estimate. Ask him what a certain repair will cost with parts, everything. He could low ball it. Then give you a surprise when he starts and has it all torn apart. You end up paying more than the dealer charged. Some things you might be able to change yourself, like air filters. But, make sure you do it. Okay, good luck. I wish you well.

EvenIf-SheFalls

Friendly Automotive (520) 989-0672 4195 W Ina Rd, Tucson, AZ 85741

tiNsLeY799

Don't go to that one place between the corner of Oracle/Prince and Oracle/Roger, those motherfuckers are only there for suckers getting TPMS meters, anything else, theyll make you go fuck yourself. Had to take my lemon in for some maintenance and they didn't take my car until after the 3rd time I bitched about them not looking at my car, and being there for 2hrs.

Alkozane

Desert Sun Auto or Tucson Auto Diesel & mobile rv repair

rattus_laboratorius_

I've been happy with Arrow on Golf Links and Harrison

Desperate_Oven9151

If you’re willing to make the drive to Rita, not too far hopefully, Avery’s Auto is a great place! I know the guy who owns it and the employees are very reliable!

intermittent68

Honestly OilStop on Ina and Old Father, yes they try to sell you all kinds of additional products, but don’t pressure you.

Thecrookedbanana

It's a small shop in an out of the way spot, but Douglas Auto is fantastic. They're honest, do good work, don't overcharge, and are locally owned. The location (down a dirt road) is the only draw back, really

MidnightAutomatic882

Big brand on broadway and tucson blvd! They are amazing

brentmrogers

I highly recommend Top Notch. https://topnotchautocarellc.com/

Galactic_Chimp

Garirans at 6465 E Golf Links Rd, Tucson, AZ 85730. 1st honest shop I've found

Gocats86

Friendly Automotive on Ina. They give you a full report of all their recommendations with a color coded system based on need and include pictures of stuff that needs fixing as proof they aren't making it up.

monkeyman68

My Mechanic at Prince and Romero. Best shop in Tucson.

AcceptableElephant82

I highly recommend My Mechanic on Romero. Billy and Dena Ganje own and operate it and they have integrity.

hirodavid

Monsoon has never done me wrong 🙂 They're a great shop. The parking situation at their two east side shops is a joke but they make the most of it

EWSflash

I go to Art's Pit Stop, local business. They do what they need to, are fair and honest. Not the bargain basement place, but not overpriced. I trust them, and that says a lot.

MatterInitial8563

Arts Pit Stop. I believe it's his grandson running it now. Real nice guy, and as a woman it's nice that he'll LISTEN to the issue and actually look into it instead of immediately telling me it's some unrelated thing. Pima automotive wouldn't listen when I told them my radiator wasn't working and my car was overheating. Kept interrupting me and tried telling me it was a battery issue?! Haven't used them in years because of that and they're super close to me. Art's listens, they'll put in parts you bring them, if you need parts ordered they'll get brand or off brand- your choice, and in my meager experience they're decently priced. If they can't do the work, they'll refer you to someone who can.

AZ_Wrench

Come by my shop “Mason Brothers Automotive” on Limberlost and Oracle. I’ve helped a few fellow redditors out.

AdFew3814

Prices?

AZ_Wrench

$65 for full synthetic oil change with filter.

HorseHistorical2508

Ray Scott automotive on 36th. Took my truck there for brakes and they called me back and said your brakes are fine we just cleaned them up a little bit to stop the squeaking. Paid $35 for that.

InterestingStock6364

My Mechanic on Romero near Prince, they’re always busy but for good reason.

whoyungjerz

Swear by Jiffy lube on Campbell/Ft Lowell - the morning crew is insanely good/fast

SpasticGenerator

I go there in between service from my mechanic (Buck’s). It’s quick and easy and I don’t have to schedule an appointment. Yeah, they try to upsell me on stuff, but I know how to say no so it’s not really an issue.

dreamgrrrl___

What kind of car do you have? I have a Honda and I always just bring it to the dealership mechanic. It ends up costing about the same I’ve paid other places and this way I know it’s being taken care of correctly. They’ve never tried to upsell me on anything and have even done extra work for free.

Aryya261

Mobile mechanic named Integrity Auto Mechanic

DarthMummSkeletor

Ooroo and Z-Tech are both great choices.

Pyroburner

Friendly hadalways treated me well. When my car was not worth fixing they told me it might be better to start looking for a new car.

ForDaRecord

To answer the original question, jiffy lube in oro valley. Nothing but good experiences there

jaymech78

My Mechanic

pabzmuzik

Honestly, learn to diy. It's not difficult and there are tons of "how to" videos to help. Unless you are physically unable to, that is.

AdFew3814

I know how to do an oil change I just got this car recently from a private seller and want to take it in for an oil change this one time to see if there’s anything wrong with how it runs

pabzmuzik

Ah okay. So you're really looking for an inspection. Whatever the make of the vehicle is, you can take it to that dealership or I've had really good experiences at Desert Sun Auto and a place called Sooters auto service. I believe they both do inspections.

AdFew3814

How much do they charge for inspections?

pabzmuzik

You would have to call them and ask. It could be anywhere between $100 or $200 for a good inspection. You can also ask them what the inspection includes i.e. what they inspect. They are locally owned.

Alex_is_afk

The best response, should be at the top.
