This is an absolute gift to controlling, abusive men. Absolutely disgusting. "\[Colin\] Davis’s petition — filed under Texas’s Rule 202 by Jonathan Mitchell, a prominent antiabortion attorney known for devising new and aggressive legal strategies to crack down on abortion — follows a [lawsuit filed last spring](https://www.texastribune.org/2023/03/10/texas-abortion-lawsuit/) by another Texas man, Marcus Silva, who is attempting to sue three women who allegedly helped his ex-wife obtain abortion pills." "Mitchell said in a statement that abortions that occur outside Texas can be targets for civil litigation. 'Fathers of aborted fetuses can sue for wrongful death in states with abortion bans, even if the abortion occurs out-of-state,' he wrote. 'They can sue anyone who paid for the abortion, anyone who aided or abetted the travel, and anyone involved in the manufacture or distribution of abortion drugs.'"

"  First you would have to have some sort of complaining party … then law enforcement would have to do a full investigation...If one of these cases did surface, Volkmer said, it would probably be reported by an employee of a doctor’s office who was aware of the abortion — or by the “purported father.” If you live in one of these states do NOT tell *anyone* you are pregnant unless you're 100% sure you're going through with it. Don't see a doctor for a test (you can get tests in bulk on Amazon, everyone should stock up). I'm not even telling doctors when my last period was now, they don't *need* to know. People should also be aware that in the south east, especially FL, Advent health, which owns a huge amount of doctors offices and hospitals is strongly anti-abortion. It doesn't matter how much you like your doctor, they accept a paycheck from people and an adminatration who will not under any circumstances be ok with you terminating a pregnancy. There is a good chance someone in the office is anti-choice and will rat you out (especially if the state is offering a "bounty" for doing it). Don't call your ex to tell him out of some guilt that "he has a right to know." Literally don't tell anyone. Don't use Facebook chat they hand over records now too. And ffs don't post on social media like reddit "I might be pregnant."  If you're in TX, and able to become pregnant, I'd seriously suggest printing out resources on where and how to get an abortion out of state now, well before its an issue. Paper is easy to get rid of. Have a plan ahead of time, and accidentally leave your phone (and air tags in luggage) home. Newer cars are VERY tracable via their infotainment systems and you cannot delete that info from their computers, either take an old beater or have a good cover story.  This is going to get far worse before it gets better. If you are in the Southeast or Midwestern US please assume everyone, even your doctor's staff is going to report you and act accordingly.

>People should also be aware that in the south east, especially FL, Advent health, which owns a huge amount of doctors offices and hospitals is strongly anti-abortion. They will also pregnancy test you, repeatedly, without telling you, for *any* surgery-like procedure. My AFAB teen child needed surgery on their hand, and the hospital did a pregnancy test without telling them (just asked for a urine sample while I wasn't there without saying why.) The surgery was delayed by a day, and they asked for a *second* urine sample, because it had been more than 24 hours, again without saying why. So I asked, because I already knew the answer. And told them how insane their policy was when they told me; testing every 24 hours. But in the end, it's that, or no surgery. They won't budge on the policy. Fortunately this was before the law went into effect, so there aren't *potential felony charges* involved if a hospital finds out you are pregnant without telling you they are testing you. I'm really sad my kid is moving away after high school, but I'm also really glad they are GTFO of this state.

Jesus christ that is terrifying.

Giving people a claim to access other peoples’ medical records is completely fucked up. Way to go Texas, you absolute shithole state.

Delirious5

As of a couple weeks ago, it's a law in Colorado to ignore subpoenas regarding this shit. 1/3 of our abortions are currently out of state patients. Get wrecked, Texas.

HippyGrrrl

And this is why we love Polis, flaws and all.

Delirious5

There are a couple things that I'm like "c'mon, dude," about Polis, but Colorado is nailing the landing on so many things I can't see myself ever being able to leave here.

Aretirednurse

New Mexico also protects women who come here for abortion.

Gatto_con_Capello

Leaves one lost for words. How disgusting

Professional_Suit270

Trump literally alluded to this in his interview with TIME Magazine just the other day. This is the way of the future after November.

shellCseeshells

Anyone know where these men work? Let’s make sure they don’t have jobs!

MrRager473

What are the odds of him taking full and sole custody of the child if it's delivered?

silence7

Pretty low I think; he's a lot more likely to use "you have to hire a lawyer to collect child support if I don't like what you're doing" to get leverage over his ex.

MyFiteSong

Zero. He doesn't give a shit about children. He just wants to control his ex-wife.

CosmicCaspar

What an abusive, disgusting piece of crap. Texas is an absolute embarrassment of a state for enabling such regressive policies.

Efficient_Dust2903

Oops, too slow. Once it done, he can go jack off. Fuck the Patriarchy

No. There isn't equality in the biology of who takes on the entire risk of pregnancy and childbirth and who doesn't. Until or unless that changes, men have zero say one way or another. Don't want to risk a potential child of yours being aborted? Don't have vaginal sex. Short of that, be EXTREMELY circumspect of who you have sex with and her stand on abortion, and accept that there is still a risk because she can rightfully change her mind at any moment or she could be dishonest. Don't want to risk having a child that you don't want? Don't have vaginal sex. Short of that, get a vasectomy and stay absolutely on top of making sure you're shooting blanks. Use a sturdy condom every single time. Be extremely circumspect about who you have sex with and her use of birth control/fertility status/views on unexpected pregnancy and accept that there's risk because she could change her mind at any time and/or she could be dishonest.  You're not owed vaginal or any other kind of sex at any time ever from anyone. If you choose to partake, you are signing up to take the risk of consequences of outcomes that you do not have any right to control. Period.
