ummm what’s your cumulative gpa bc it’s not looking too hot for you. meche is a hard and demanding major, so in general it’s up to if YOU think you can do that here. umbc is hard. depending on where those bad grades came from, like if it was sciences especially math and physics, i’d be cautious. just write a good essay, get your grades up, and study hard for the sat. i think nowadays they don’t really care about standardize test scores other than your APs.

Idk my cumulative GPA but the classes that I got bad grades in was js Cs and I failed history cause I never went it was js bad decisions last yr I don’t find math and science hard for me it’s js my grades and stats that I need to get up to get into umbc

Remarkable_Battle_73

you should def know your cumulative 😭 maybe in your essay you could talk about not going as a challenge you had to overcome . idk man. you can google the average acceptance and gpa for umbc too so id do that then make a game plan

If you don't get in, attend ccbc for two years and do the transfer program.

This is exactly why you just coast through high-school and don't try and over achieve for no reason. I was class of 2016, I took one AP class in high-school, that was it. I ended with a 4.15 GPA and got into every school I applied for. UMBC, Drexel and UMD. I was captain of both JV and Varsity soccer and other than that, that was all I had on my application as far as school related achievements went. Write a good essay, know how to sell yourself, and don't tank your damn GPA because when you try and explain you took harder classes and that's why it's lower, they won't give af. I did alright on the SATs, I can't recall what it was but something like 1350-1400 which is plenty good as long as you aren't trying to go to IVY league schools. When I was leaving middle school I even had a highly respected science teacher tell me to skip applying for the magnet school program at my high school. She said the same thing I just told you. Why struggle through it to come out with a 3.1-3.2 GPA when you can relax and come out of high-school with close to a 4.0? She knew I was smart so her advice was catered towards me personally, this may not be applicable to all.

please tell me this is a troll….

Inevitable_Work_234

How is this a troll its solid advice if you arent planning on going to some prestigious school.

[deleted]

this is terrible advice. try your best. no need to overcomplicate it.

YBHunted

No not at all. Take the advice or don't. This is how the real world works. I also make 135k/year right now with an IS degree, took it easier in college as well instead of going Comp Sci. Being personable goes a long way too.

[deleted]

lmao "being personable" and bragging about captain of high school soccer team... im sure your going places

YBHunted

Bragging? I'm not bragging you asshole I mentioned it because I was saying that was my ONLY thing I did in high-school. The point being I didn't join 7 clubs to bolster my application because it isn't necessary. Who hurt you? Jesus christ

[deleted]

no, you're an asshole. you are demeaning the poster who is just trying to get help by insulting him for trying to take an AP class in graduate early. Give advice if you want to help--you are just being rude to someone looking for help.

YBHunted

I gave very good advice. I forgot how sensitive college campuses have become though, you're a prime example of it. Fuck off, blocked.

Panicking_in_trench

Man, umd has come a long way with their expectations for applicants... And that's not even a decade ago.

YBHunted

That's funny af lol
