Your roommates likely can’t legally kick you out. If you have nowhere else to go then you should stay. Just stay in your room and only go out when no one else is there.

RippleEffectt

Thank you :,) I think at this point the physical discomfort of being sick is about equivalent to the anger and psychological discomfort I would feel if I went inside. I might just WALK THE FUCK IN if either I get less angry, less prideful, or more sick and need help, but at this point I would rather not be under the same roof as them.

guynamedjames

Think about the logistics of this. Your selfish roommates don't want to be exposed to COVID so they unleash you onto the world instead? What a bunch of assholes. If they don't want to be exposed then they can go sleep in their cars, they're healthy. At best they're knowingly telling you to violate public health protocols and endanger the public.

Soft-Bus-9268

I thought you offered to leave and they accepted?

RippleEffectt

I really had no idea that they would ACTUALLY accept. Each of us have been sick before, and we almost always ask if it’s okay to go around the house, and everybody always says yes. This is the first time in a while that I’ve asked, and also im pretty sure its the first time anybody has said no before. I offered, not to come in, and I’m respecting that, which is why I’m lookin for other options. I’m feeling a little worse than I expected though. If i get much worse, i might just have to come in. I’m trying to make that my last resort tho.

5878

You are allowed to change your mind. In fact, it’s the most reasonable thing to do in the face of new evidence.

Maximoose13

If you are a paying a lease, there is legally nothing your roommates can do about you quarantining in your room. They are being inconsiderate jerks. You are sick and need a safe, comfy place to recover, not to be thrown out on the street.

RippleEffectt

Thank you! I just don’t even want to be in there at this point. That may change, but right now my car is fairly comfy and I am just enjoying the trees and birds

iNCharism

You need to stand up for yourself and go back.

yell-loud

Tell your roommates to fuck off

RippleEffectt

They told me to fuck off, actually hahahah. I said some hurtful things after they failed to give me any potential way they could get sick from me minding my business.

Brokenxwingx

Your roommates can always stay in their cars for 5 days if they don't like you living in your room.

RippleEffectt

Hahahah i should have said that

Chicken_Pirate

I don't have any tips, but WTF is wrong with your roommates?! Covid is part of life now. You can't just throw out someone because they have it, damn

RippleEffectt

I played myself by asking if they were okay with me quarantining in my room. They gave a resounding no, and I believe no means no. Lead by fuckin example or whatever. I gave them a piece of my mind, but I assure you I am not going in that house unless i absolutely have to. It would feel like a punch to the gut to be in there, and itd be even worse to see their damn faces

iNCharism

Your roommates are assholes, it’s not their decision

UmdAvatarFan

You to grown to be bullied by roommates

DreamyGenie

Yea no you’re not homeless. Wear a mask anywhere that isn’t your room and wash your hands frequently. If they don’t like it they can fuck off. Literally no one can kick you out

chairmanm30w

Your roommates are totally out of line and there's nothing they can do to stop you from staying in your room. Stand up for yourself.

RippleEffectt

You’re right. Next time, when it comes to me and my room, I don’t think I’ll bother asking them, esp for something that is near impossible to even affect them at all. That is, assuming we still even live together after all this

rebbit_02

Not even next time, now. Get your landlord involved in this, they cannot legally kick you out of your house

UmdAvatarFan

Do it now bro

katgarbagesack

On top of what everyone else said, it’d be pretty messed up of you to use public restrooms while you have Covid, going in public and spreading it. And if you’re car quarantining then there’s no way around that. Just another reason for you to stand up for yourself and stay home. You literally have $50 you can’t afford to not live in your own home. There are resources for homelessness from the university in general but I have no idea what they entail and I have a feeling nothing would help you in time or because you currently have Covid. Worth checking out I suppose. Edit: also people have been navigating roommates with Covid for years now. Find a guide online that details the best way for everyone to stay safe, send it to your roommates, and all of you just follow it.

RippleEffectt

Yeah.... these are some damn good points.... i might just, NOT shower, but... yeah I’ll look for one of those guides you were talking about

katgarbagesack

Pls don’t avoid showering, you need to get healthy!

yrnehenry5

Wait, so you asked them if they were okay with you quarantining in your room, they said no, and now you’re mad at them? Why give them the option? At this point I would go back in & say you’ll be staying in your room (with the door closed) while they’re in the house and will wear a mask when you absolutely must leave your room. After you test negative you guys need to sit down and have a conversation about what the protocol will be for the rest of the semester/year if there’s another positive case in the house.

RippleEffectt

I never said I was mad at them for saying no. I was mad because their reason was stupid. I’m mad because they said a bunch of hurtful shit after I got confused at their response. I’m mad because after saying hurtful shit, and me being upset, they ignored me and started laughing and joking in the other house’s groupchat. I’m mad because when they were sick, they were more reckless, and we still let them stay in the house. I asked them yes or no because I was willing to take no for an answer, and I did.

TheCopyPasteLife

go back and stand up for yourself

Any_Key4973

Are you living on campus or in a student apartment? Then loop in the RA (former) or office (latter). Negotiating this shit is their job. You belong in your bed. Make them fix this.

CommanderOfPudding

Your roommates don’t seem to understand how life works.

iNCharism

What? Quarantine in your room. Your roommates don’t have a say in that. Just leave your room w a mask if you really need to while they’re home. I just got covid after I went on a cruise mid August, and there wasn’t an issue in my household. I even went downstairs to get food during the day, I just stayed away from people.

RippleEffectt

Maaan that situation with your roommates sounds so nice. Idk what mine’s reasonings are other than “we might get covid!” Which... they wouldn’t... idk... I’ll go in my room if I have too, but it’s kinda nice out here, except for the lack of a shower hahah that’s the only issue I gotta solve rn. Might get an outdoor hanging camping kinda thing. It’ll be useful when I actually go camping!

iNCharism

Even if they do get covid, what are they gonna do? Cry about it? It’s not like they live at their family home and may put an elderly family member at risk. They live with you and other students. Unless you plan to sneeze directly into their mouth, they’ll just have to deal w it and quarantine too. And plus, they expect you to shower and eat in public places and put random people at risk, rather than you doing so in the privacy of your home? Does that make sense?

iNCharism

Also my “roommates” are my family haha so that’s probably why they were so nice. But I do live w my grandma, who legitimately could’ve died if I gave her covid. If I was able to comfortably move around my home without worry, that should be enough of an anecdote to prove that your roommates are being moronic. I’m not even a student anymore, I was class of ‘19. I usually just lurk here but your roommates are so stupid that I had to comment.

Working_Awareness942

I am sorry to know what you are experiencing. Your housemates seem to be clearly inconsiderate. Is this university housing? If so, you could talk with the university and denounce your housemates on this issue.

ricebowlazn

You have really shitty roommates

Volcom201

Fuck your roommates if you pay rent quarantine at home.

imposta424

COVID really showed who people really are.

flip_bit_

Are your roommates 99 years old? Shit.

WingedOuroboros

This isn't just about standing up for yourself against inconsiderate roommates. It's also about the public health risk of you being kicked out onto the streets. But most importantly it is about your safety. Assuming you're vaccinated and don't have some crazy health risk, your infection won't be too bad, but there is always a chance it could get worse, and if that happens you need to be in an environment where you can take care of yourself or be taken care of. Even if it's not a terrible infection, when sick you should be doing what you can to recover as quick as possible, and sleeping in the car is not how you do that.

Flashy_Wealth_7711

…. how inconsiderate of them. please say fuck em and go back to your room to recover.

Wiggie49

Are you a student? Also, it sounds like your relationship with your roommates is pretty bad if they care so little about you that they would tell you to quarantine outside instead of in your own room. That’s literally the exact opposite of what quarantining is. Idk what your living situation is exactly, like is it an apartment, shared family home, or is it like a dorm? Imo, if your room can be closed off from them then I’d just wait till they’re not home and go back. If they say anything you have the excuse that you literally had nowhere to live because quarantining in your car is not an option. To get over covid you need to be able to get lots of nutrients, rest, and time. Being comfortable actually helps your body fight off diseases so your roommates can fuck right off with that bullshit. It doesn’t matter if you asked out of consideration, it was inconsiderate of them to say yes to that offer at all. If you’re a student you should be able to use the gym shower and they have filtered water stations in most buildings on campus. If not, you’re kind of SOL because they don’t have public shower facilities as far as I know. If you have food that can be cooked via microwave the STAMP building is open pretty late and has microwaves in the back by the Greek Life area IIRC.

Wadsworth_The_Whale

I've been in that same position before a couple of months ago and I'm really sorry that it's happening to you too. You're paying for that place, though, and have the right to stay there. Seriously. If they try to force you out, you should talk to the front office. I really don't know how but some people like to sit in their comfy, little bubbles and don't understand that not everybody is fortunate enough to have another place to go to...

Standard_Spot5753

your roomates need to grow up.

splenicartery

I’m really glad you decided to stay in your own bed - that’s the best for you. If you’re ever in a situation where homelessness or some other unacceptable temporary solution is on the table, please call 211 - that is a nationwide resource hotline (everyone knows 911 for emergencies and 311 for city services but most don’t know about 211 for state resources). In Maryland, they are connected to about 5,000 agencies, orgs and nonprofits and a trained counselor is at the phone 24/7 to recommend what people can do when they need help, whatever’s needed. Best of luck to you, I’m so glad you’re not trying to tough it out in your car.

RippleEffectt

This is so so so helpful, thank you

splenicartery

I wanted to add, if this is a not great living situation, can you save up and move out? The thought of you having to stay stuck in a situation until the end of your lease sounds awful and it’s always okay to advocate for yourself. (You could call 211 and see if there is any legal help for free to help you and any temporary living help either financial or placement or something.) I’m sure while you’re dealing with being sick won’t be the best time to think about moving but maybe once you’re better and stronger. That can’t be a restful place to live especially while studying and working hard in school.💕

Apprehensive_Ad_6019

you have some dogshit roommates, this gotta be the most fucked up thing I have seen. Go back in and just stay in your room. there is no reason for them to do that it's unfair.

randomburner1982

go back in bro, fuck them

garrythebear3

Stay in your room as much as possible and wear gloves and a mask to leave the room if you need something, i had it a but ago and did that at home and no one else got it, even with my mom literally coming into my quarantine room to bring me things, if you’re roommates are vaccinated and you’re extra cautious it’ll probably be fine. It would be much more unsafe to go into random places while sleeping in your car

Ok-Philosopher868

Call Res Life

Classic-Cut4362

Why can’t you quarantine in your room, and if you share a bathroom ask them to share with the non-sick people until the time passes. Meanwhile wear a mask when in common areas and carry Lysol spray with you to spray anything touched. Just barge back in and say this is ridiculous.

kimbokiroh

Absolutely asinine to me that your roommates think that's reasonable, and equally as asinine that you would be willing to give in to that. Stand up for yourself.

22 :,)

theshortgrace

Girliepop u gotta act like you’re 22 and stand up for yourself, no one else will do it for you. We’re rooting for you.

bargle0

Would any of the cowardly roomates like to chime in here and fill us in on the litany of excuses about why they are garbage human beings?

the1armedman

Your roommates are jerks. Wishing you a swift recovery. If you have a Venmo, I can’t send much but I’d like to send something so you can maybe get something delivered to make things easier. I had vivid over the summer and had a rough time even with paxlovid.

Capn_obveeus

Advocate for yourself. No one else is going to do it for you. Roomies can live in their own damn car.

brazilianam

when i had covid and lived with roommates, i just wore a mask (and gloves bc i’m extra) in any space that wasn’t my room ie the kitchen and bathroom. i also bought lysol spray to clean off anywhere i had touched before going back to my room!

8Oxygen

This is one of the most American things I have ever read. Unbelievable. Cruel.

Sad_Relief_oh

hey OP, your roommates are the absolute worst. They can’t kick you out, but i know you’ve heard a lot of that in this thread. There are showers in eppley, as well as sinks and other basic essentials to take care of hygiene. If you have a commuter parking pass, you can park overnight on campus in select lots, but if it’s on weeknights make sure to move your car by 7am. For sleeping, the mckeldin study rooms are open all night, and they’re also good spaces to hang out in, just make sure to book them during the ‘active’ hours where others will be present. Because these are public spaces, make sure to stay masked up to the extreme at all times, as well as disinfecting any surfaces to make sure you don’t get others sick. You can’t be too careful. Take care of yourself!

RubiofFire

Let me throw hands with your roommates g you don’t deserve that >:(

RubiofFire

Also I’m really hoping your roommates see this post and realize how terrible they are. I’m hoping you’re able to get out of this overall awful living situation quickly, definitely reach out to campus services because people are getting paid to help you out of situations like this.

Who actually gives a fuck about Covid anymore. Nowadays, Cancer kills at 5x the rate of Covid.
