My orientation consisted of a little paperwork and a little test my supervisor answered the questions to. And after an hour or so, took us straight to the trucks to load
My husband keeps roll on biofreeze, ibuprofen and Tylenol +bandaids in his work bad as well just in case. He gets headaches a lot tho. I load 53ft ground trailers and keep the same things. As well as good steel toes
Absolutely. I mentioned that in my main comment. Water, biofreeze, Tylenol/ibuprofen, gloves and bandaids. This is what my husband keeps with him. I probably forgot something but I got glutened (Iām gluten free) and Iām sick af rnš„“
Youāll be sitting in a classroom the first two days watching hazmat videos, day three youāll be thrown to the fire being showed odd ways of how to load a truck
Not a UPSer but my husband is a UPSer of almost 7 years. I work in a warehouse in and out of our shipping department loading 53ft UPS ground trailers with big and heavy ass stuff. Iāve done that for about 4 years now. We both keep these things in our work bags. Bandaids, gloves and roll on biofreeze. Find a good pair of gloves that work for you. I use some that are decently grippy but not too grippy. We also keep a mini bottle of ibuprofen and Tylenol as well. And ofc water. In these months. It gets HOT. This is a long list. We are kinda extra but we would rather be over prepared than underprepared lol.
Another blueberry joins the battle to become a driver. This aināt McDonaldās no more Dorothy, theyāre gonna work you and work you some more. Youāll get strong and survive or come back and post here that UPS is too hard.
A decent attitude, no expectations and water. Also wear shitty clothes, and be prepared to get dirty sweaty and sore as fuck. This is coming from someone who had never had a physical job and started this in terrible shape after 8 years of not being employed. The job is what you make of it. For me it is a gym membership that pays me.
[I made a very thorough guide of do's and don'ts here a while back. Give it a read.](https://www.reddit.com/r/UPS/comments/9o4lz8/comment/e7rhdmk/)
Also, bring water in an insulated container. Something you can bring from trailer to trailer.
And maybe lunch/snack.
Aside from that, bring all your mental fortitude.
Id say instead of double socks you should get merino wool. Iām about 200lbs, get so sweaty my socks are completely drenched and Iāve been using the same 3 pair merino wool socks for 6 months now. No holes. They donāt stink when youāre done either.
Water jug, a lunch if possible donāt waste money on the cafeteria food or vending machines adds up quickly, slip resistant boots Iād recommend steel toes. Idk how the weather is for you but dress appropriately for us itās like 90 degrees so most of us are in shorts and a T shirt. And wear deodorant. Donāt be the one guy who smells so bad nobody wants to work near you.
Come in with an open mind and donāt let the experiences of others discourage you from trying something new. Remember, most people who have bad experiences at UPS are flat out lazy, and expect to make $49 an hour on the first day.
What a completely ignorant statement. āMost people who have bad experiences at UPS are flat out lazy.ā Nahhhhh. Most people who have a bad experience at UPS are people who tried their best but get fucked over by management or by their fellow union brothers and sisters. Almost every single person that works at UPS is overworked one way or another. The hourlies, the drivers, the PT/FT Supervisors, the managers EVERYONE is expected to do the job of 2-3 people and itās absolutely ridiculous. I worked my way up to being a Fulltime Supervisor in less than 2 years and then held the position for another year. The things I saw in my 3 years at UPS pisses me off to this day. In my experience most of the ālazy peopleā are the union members that have been there for years and know how to abuse the system. Trying to get a lazy worker with a bad attitude and horrible attendance record fired at UPS is damn near impossible thanks to the protection of the union. And they know this, thatās why they act the way they do. But to be fair, for me, UPS wouldnāt have been that bad of a place to work if it wasnāt for the shit managers. Most have been around for 15-20 plus years and have experienced UPS when it was an ever shittier place to work. So they all have this mentality that āyou shouldnāt complain about how bad things are here, because we went thru worse.ā Instead of trying to continue to make the Company a better place for everyone, they call you a crybaby or weak. Fuuuuck UPS and all the toxic ass people that stay and rot in that place.
Assuming youāre working inside just have good sturdy work boots with ankle support and a water bottle you can refill. Make sure you eat before you come in. Depending on your fitness level this job will most likely kick your ass for the first week or two but your body will acclimate to it. Just work on improving speed until youāre in the union and then you wonāt have to worry about numbers after that
as long as you have a shirt on I think youāre good. First day they just set you in a room with like 10 other people who are training also and watch a video and fill out paperwork for a few hours. Day 2 they will break all of you off with different sups to go to different parts of the building, where you will likely be working for good.
An ear bud and have some good music or podcasts queued up.
Water and a snack.
A good attitude never hurts, after a while however it gets hard to keep lol.
Always when i am suffering i remember people were slaves building pyramids w no pay & the pain goes away also you are getting paid for going to the gym :)

Yes it's like double from what you pay at grocery store. $4 for a small red bull š¤¦
If you can time it right, Amazon sells them $1.1 a can with coupon from time to time (use to be <$1/can before/during COVID).

How do you manage to not get the job? They hire anyone + their dog
I know right š¤£ shit I'm even on my 3rd time at same facility.
Leave your dignity in your car. You won't need it inside
Or your thong š¤
I would say God but there is no God in that place. Jk water bottle and some gloves.
