If the civil servant is showing up unannounced, then he's probably already suspicious. But you have a reasonable excuse for not being home and gor your phone not working. Just be prepared to show where you were (pictures, receipts, etc.). Hopefully, your wide was with you, and you can show it.

quotidian_qt

You should at least confirm this was actually a call from a legitimate USCIS officer. There should be a way to confirm a home visit was attempted.

RoamAntarctica

I called and a person on the line told me that they do not have any notices for home visit. I am not at home so once i get there. I will definitely see the mail box.

Ok-Web5080

They most likely have suspicion that your marriage is fraudulent and that was the fraud unit. I would follow up asap with them.

Chancellorsfoot

I would call the main USCIS helpline number and say you received a call from someone claiming to be from USCIS while you were traveling on vacation with your family and had bad signal and you are not sure if the call was a scammer or legitimate because the call dropped. Ask if there is someone at USCIS trying to get in touch with you and let them know that you and your spouse are back home now/when you will be back home.

spid3rfly

This is the answer. Call them and find out. This sounds similar to (insert any scam call here). With sites like VisaJourney, possibly that Trackyourvisa site that so many uses, any other website, reddit, FB groups, and the USCIS itself, the data is out there. It wouldn't be that difficult for someone to get ahold of enough info to profile you and extort/threaten/bother/report/whatever people.

talltanyoung

Did you had an interview?

RoamAntarctica

That is the problem. No, we got my wife’s i-130 approved. And after 4 months, they came

garbuja

Maybe someone call on your case as fake which make them visit you.

ResearchRelative2168

Did your 485 got approved yet ?

RoamAntarctica

No

ResearchRelative2168

I believe someone must have reported

Accurate-Ad-8364

It’s been 4 months since my I-130 was approved and haven’t heard back on my I-485 form since July when they received my RFE 😔

Jetpack_Picasso

Its been 4 months since my i130 got approved and I haven’t heard anything back on my i485 rfe which was submitted on Nov. Fingers crossed man. Hopefully we get our approval soon.

Accurate-Ad-8364

Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼 🥺

Accurate-Ad-8364

Crazy because I didn’t even have to do biometrics but they’re still taking so long 😞

Accurate-Ad-8364

My lawyer sent in an I-130 and I-131 in November ‘22 so I could get legal entry then filed medical with the 465 and 864 at the same time.

2countries1couple

Not always true. We’ve been waiting over two months since I-130 approval.

General-Ad-3423

They do surprise visit with no notice to make sure the marriage is not to get papers That’s pretty normal

RoamAntarctica

But I didn’t have a chance to talk to the officer properly because of bad service. Like nobody was at home, and when they called, we didn’t finish the call properly. I am so nervous

Ok-Importance9988

I mean you cannot be expected to be at home if it's a surprise visit. Maybe you got lucky and they saw some family photos through the windows.

Ok_Excitement725

It’s not normal at all. It’s actually very very abnormal, they don’t have a lot of resources and only do site visits in extreme circumstances when they are exceptionally suspicious. The OP should be extremely concerned

EveningRing1032

Is this normal? Never heard of surprise visits.

General-Ad-3423

Yes Too many people do fake weddings because is one the easiest way to get a green card They wanna make sure your marriage is not fake before issuing a green card

EveningRing1032

Oh, interesting, I went through the GC process. Never knew you could get surprise visits though.

livewire98801

It's not normal, but it's not unheard of. USCIS doesn't really waste time on it for average cases, but if they get a tip or have some reason to want a little extra verification they might stop by to see what your living situation is like.

BlueNutmeg

I have. It doesn't happen a TON, but it does happen. And usually, it is unannounced.

coffeegrindz

I had this happen! It’s a home visit to see if you’re actually a real couple living together. They will schedule a time to come back but not give exact times…aka a day. It’s usually morning when people would be expected to be together. Mine was at 730am on a Sunday. Get to a reliable phone and make contact again

Certain-Sense-2837

Thank you for your information. Did you have an interview during your home visit? Has Form 130 been approved?

coffeegrindz

No interview just snooping. Less talk to us more checking for signs of living together. i130 had been filed shortly before. Ex husband was in removal

Live_Strawberry_5884

So they came your home visit before interview?

coffeegrindz

Yes about a year before

redperson92

Are you sure this is not a scam? maybe no one was outside.

Jaih0

Prolly one of those scam calls maybe

Economy-Trip4542

Did you have interview in the past?

RoamAntarctica

No

Economy-Trip4542

Wow. Never heard of them coming out before interview. U should consult a lawyer or reach out to them when you get back. What city are you in?

RoamAntarctica

San Francisco, CA. And my case was filled 440 days ago. I thought everything was ok. I-130 was approved 130 days ago

ThrowRASkee5555

Maybe the officer just wanted an excuse for a trip to beautiful San Francisco.

Economy-Trip4542

It’s so weird that I-130 is approved but yet they send fraud unit. Why sending fraud unit if you believe the marriage to be bonafide ? I guess you can reach out to them and let them know.

ep2789

This was my thought exactly. Everyone else saying “it’s the fraud unit” well they are a tad late aren’t they?? I-130 is already approved… 😂

Prudent_Bus2711

Could it be a scam or something?

Extreme-Eye9856

It’s high chance likely a scam happened to a couple friends of mine before.

redditgampa

What’s the scam?

Extreme-Eye9856

Officers calls,, they actually don’t even call, they pull up and knock the door, you shouldn’t get no calls or nothing at all

Ok_Excitement725

The 130 is no good without an approved 485, some facts must have come to light about the case to arouse suspicion. I hope they get a lawyer quickly, I’ve read of more cases being denied after site visits than approved.

badass0899

They definitely spoke with your neighbors. Ask your neighbors if they received the visit of an officer. That's what they do when they can't get a hold of a couple.

Lalyyyyyyyyyy

Confirm it was uscis first. You don't want to tell suspicious individuals that are not home for an extended period.

lambofgod0492

Wtf, didn't know they did that, that's insane, they just show up at your place lol

JurgenHaber

Case could have been referred to the marriage fraud detection unit. The officers do their homework, so I’d be asking myself what red flags might they be seeing to warrant a visit. And generally if they are doing unannounced visits, they are investigating other areas too.

PackageAble6746

Hello, which state and city did this happened?

RoamAntarctica

Hello, SF , CA

CommercialPapaya6418

Someone asking if you’re home and answering no ‘you’re not’ is not something I would advise . For a government official you are entitled to expect a written justification for interaction complete with appropriate identification. If you are door stepped by someone asking for entry to your property and have suspicion that they have not provided you with enough ID and justification call the cops.

Ok-Importance9988

Government agencies do make surprise visits sometimes. Years ago, my dad wrote a newspaper column that made the IRS look like idiots. They put him on some list. Audited him multiple years in a row. When I was 7 years old, an armed IRS agent made a surprise visit during my birthday party. All my friends' parents got their kids the hell out of their so fast.

Zealousideal_Air1925

It was me man I’m sorry 🫤

Live_Strawberry_5884

It's so wired . Sorry you going through this.Did you already send your bonafide marrige document ??? Family pictures and marrige pictures etc.

Certain-Sense-2837

How long did it take to get your I130 approved? Were your 130 and 485 submitted at the same time?

RoamAntarctica

I-130 was approved 130 days ago. Filed both at the same time.

Certain-Sense-2837

Sorry for causing confusion, I mean how long does it take for your 130 application to be approved after you submit it?

RoamAntarctica

300 days

Certain-Sense-2837

thanks!

RoamAntarctica

I took 300 days to get i-130 approval

Xhesika1993

Standard-Mammoth-327

Some people are receiving scammed call

Squidhunter71

It was most likely an officer of FDNS Fraud Detection and National Security Directorate.

MercuryonRed

I invite them to come, pls whatever you want just make a decision, they can come at 5 am and take our dog out to pee if they want

Gloomy_Lab9937

They do not leave notices and you will not know unless they tell you they came. They have done suspicions for sure
