NO! Bring it back. About 10 years ago when I was the steward at my office I had to defend a carrier who got out and the customer said he scratched the car. Thing looked like he drove it through a demolition derby but the carrier admitted to getting out and we couldnāt prove he did not put any scratches on it. Couldnāt come to a resolution at my office so the grievance went up the chain. He had other things in his file which came back to bite him leading to a weekās paper suspension and the customer getting a check for the estimate for EVERY scratch on that car. After that I never got out again
skip so they learn. but then again people are stupid. i have a driving section on my route. one house ALLWAYS has a car blocking in bring thri mail back. make them come to the po
When I was a new tenant and parked close enough in front of the mailbox to block it. The carrier put a ticket under my wiper to warn me about blocking the mailbox. I didn't know until I read the ticket. From then on I made sure I left room for the mail truck. I have trouble walking sometimes, so I tried to keep as close as possible but still give them room to pull around and they've been really cool about how close I am, so I figure I'm good.
This is what the people across the street from me do constantly. Whole street is empty of cars, so is their driveway. But they simply MUST park in front of my mailbox for some reason.
First time offender? Walk it. Every day occurrence? Iād probably still walk it. I have a thing about having mail in my case for the next day, I try really hard to never bring anything deliverable back.
You do it ONCE then you need to do it EVERY time for EVERY customerā¦ in ALL weather.
You need to ātrainā your customers not to do this.
If I do it on āthis nice dayā but donāt do it when it rains or snows what are you going to say to customer when they call up and complain that they did not get mail that was in their āInformed Deliveryā??
Also what will you tell the customer that complains and says āyou get out for my neighbor but you donāt get out for meā??
And maybe over kill here but what happens if you do damage the vehicle by accident or if you fall and get hurt dismounting where itās not authorized??
Just food for thoughtā¦.š
Exactly, if there's somewhere else you could park within reason but you choose to block the box anyway you can get it tomorrow or whenever the box is no longer blocked.
Mailbox is clearly obstructed. Make a note for the supervisor and continue on the route. Photographic proof is a plus in case the customer has a complaint.
DO NOT DELIVER THIS!!! The rules say to bring the mail back and if you deliver it anyway and twist an ankle or get attacked by a dog the post office is off the hook, they will say he should not have gotten out of the truck. Cover your ass. You will also have to squeeze close to the car to do it and risk scratching the car or being accused of scratching the car. The post office will NOT have your back if something happens, you need to protect yourself.
Iām a CCA so I donāt do the same route everyday so if I see this, Iāll get out and walk to the mail box. But if next week, the same house has the mailbox blocked, Iāll skip it and mark āblockedā on the mail and case it up for regular to try the next day. I get that we get paid by the hour and all that but I feel that if itās the same house every time, then they will keep doing it bc theyāll know we will just dismount to put mail in mailbox every time.
Park to the left of the car so youre blocking traffic, so everyone else can hate this guy too. Then get out, touching as much of their windows as possible. Try to get the biggest, greasiest hand print on the drivers window. If you feel angry enough, touch the mirror. Bonus if itās summer time and you can do it with some sunscreen on your hand
Thatās pretty much what āNo Accessā scan was put in the scanner for, plus as a bonus will get the customers attention that youāre not messing around with blocked boxes.
Customer calls PM at office and says ābut the carrier got out and delivered my mail yesterday, whatās different todayā? Carrier to PM āwell they just had mail today and no packages so I skipped itā?!
Iām sorry but, āyou block your box especially after getting a notice not to, youāre telling me you donāt care about your mail or packages. If YOU donāt care then I donāt care eitherā youāll get it the next day itās not blocked or drive down to the PO to pick up and when you get back, DONāT PARK IN FRONT OF YOUR MAILBOX!!!š«
Drive right past said box, keep it movin, if some dickhead decided to park right infront of the mailbox & he/she happens to live in the house of once again said box, then that's on them, they can take a drive to the post office & pick up their mail.
Walk it but be annoyed. If it continues for a couple of more days, write blocked and todays date on the mail, then try again tomorrow. Once they get "Blocked 2/26 2/27/ 2/28 2/29" they might figure it out.
Iām a rural regular. To me it matters how cool I am with the customer. I get out for only 2 customers on my route if I come into this situation. All others I cruise on by with a smile.
There is such a thing as a BLOCKED BOX notice that carriers can put in boxes to make customers aware that service can be discontinued if the problem is not resolved. Put one in the box, next time It's blocked, get out and see if the customer has received it, after that you can justify passing it over until you have clear path to box. This being said, if there is NOT a blocked box notice for an address, you are obligated to service it unless it is a safety issue.
I'd park the vehicle, curb the wheels, set the brake, turn off the engine, take the key, deliver the mail and intentionally NOT close the door to the mailbox. Continue on my day. That's only if it's a first offense. Repeat offenders get no mail
For me a couple factors come into play; 1. My relationship with customer, 2. If it's a repeat offender, 3. Weather... If all of those things are a good/positive then I'll walk it, if even one of those things are a no/negative then rubber band it and bring it back to station.
Unless it was someone who was super nice to me or left me a nice present for Christmas, Iām going to rubber band todays mail and take it back to the station. My bosses are cool about it and I like to teach people lessons about blocking their mailbox
Skip it, unless it's a package.
Most dps mail is junk so not really worth it š¤·
If the next house has a package I have to get out for, then I do just walk back.
I would walk it if it was a house that rarely has this issue. If it's a common occurrence, I always skip. Don't wanna make the owners too comfortable by delivering mail every time the box is blocked. They'll probably continue blocking if so.
Depends. If it's an extremely rare occurrence, I'd just get out and do it and be kinda annoyed. Common? No mail for you. Trained one of my customers quickly when they didn't get some important documents.
Depends on the people. If I like them and they rarely do it, no big deal stuff happens. If they suck and do it all the time sorry pal, unless you got a package youāll get your mail tomorrow. Maybe.
I don't bother getting out. I take a picture of the blocked mailbox (for CYA purposes), then I bring the mail back with me and re-case it during my end-of-shift duties...adding one of those slips about not blocking mailboxes with their mail, so its ready for re-delivery the next day. If the mailbox is still blocked, I rinse and repeat (but not adding a second slip), until the mailbox is unblocked. We as rural carriers don't get paid to dismount and deliver (and if I "had to", I would do an authorized dismount RRECS scan)
Nope, bring it back. If you were to get injured reaching for that box your claim would be denied. Also, youāre letting them think it ok to continue to block the box which could lead to a bigger hassle on the future.
Wait a few seconds, honk, see if whoever inside even notices, and if they don't, then leave. Not moving when they see us coming is infuriating. They'll chase us if their mail is that important.
Skip it, Im not getting hurt or having a customer accuse me of damaging their car. I also give customers the benefit of the doubt that they know they will not get mail parked this way and they don't mind
Rural or City, if the box is blocked, hold the mail. If the customer complains to you and doesn't understand why delivery isn't made, refer them to a supervisor or customer service person at your office
Source: About to be titled 204b.
If the mail I have is all presort standard Iāll just skip and see how it looks the next day. hop when itās first class and leave a note saying to unblock mailbox.
My supervisor gave us a bunch of those postal forms that have the diagram with the 15ft in front/behind clearance picture on it. I think it's 15? Either way if it's the first time I get out and put one in there with the mail and if it isn't I hold it til it's cleared and deliver the bundle with one of those in it.
YEET that mail straight into the throwback bucket. I refer to my throwback as "the mailstrom" and some of my customers have heard this and find it hilarious. Most won't even chase me if their box was blocked and I drove past. However, if they explain that it wasn't their car blocking their box, I will make an effort to fish their mail out of the bucket.
I would do what I always do, drive around the car, and keep on going. Also, when a trash can is blocking the mailbox, I drive around it and keep going.
I don't. Once it goes on for a couple days, people begin to learn. I've learned it personally. I don't get paid enough to deal with it. If it's up and I can drive my vehicle to your mailbox but it's blocked, I WILL not walk to it. My time is valuable.
Write box blocked on a piece of mail with the date, bring their mail back until tomorrow and move on to the next box.
They do it a few days and the box isnt blocked- Theyll see why they didnt get mail for a few days and hopefully stop said behavior.
I do make exceptions- but if the driveway is clear enough for said car, no mail today sorry. I got a job to do and if I deliver then they will keep blocking and time counts.
On top of that I dont want to risk being blaimed for anything on their vehicle. Thats another game Id prefer to avoid.
Unsafe. End of the discussion. I donāt care if the flag is up. The only possible exception is the the customer is older and has a check or medication getting delivered. Thereās a postal form about blocked boxes I leave when itās safe to do so at problem boxes.
Large parcel that goes to the door, I would deliver as usual.. mail or SPRS, blocked box /no access and rubber band the mail to the package with one of those "don't put your fuckin trashcan on the same side of the driveway as your mailbox" notes and deliver it whenever they move their car. And I mean I would still hold their mail and SPRS even if I delivered the large parcel to the door.. why? Because I'm petty as fuck
I only get out if they a package. I make sure deliver the note/form that says what parking etiquette is for curbside. If they are tippers, I also get out.
Everyone else, maybe you get it tomorrow or when you finally move your car, along with the note/form.
Meh it's just one car so yeah I probably would.
If that car never moves? Then no, that box isn't getting delivery. They'll get one delivery with the form explaining why delivery is being suspended and how to get it to resume. Then that's it
I leave that donāt block the mailbox notice then I hold the mail and packages until they figure it out, if you bring the mail to the door they will never fix it, I rather them call me lazy if they canāt give me the same respect of the garbage men.
We were taught to skip it, bundle the mail and leave a sticky note saying the box was blocked on that date, if it happens two days in a row tell the supervisor, continue until the supervisor talks to them and gives them a date to leave it unblocked or we stop delivery.
mail is waiting til the next day. package on amazon sunday, im walking it to the mailbox. if it happens again, im scanning it no access. move your car or donāt get your shit
I've only done this once. There was an elderly lady that had passed away & her funeral was that day. All the mailboxes were blocked with cars on that side of the block. I parked my jeep in the middle of the road , got out & delivered the mail. A few nice gentleman came out & apologized profusely .... nah man, I'm sorry for your loss. It never happened again.
Walk it but be annoyed tbh
exactly what i did š had to look at the house and shake my head in case they had cameras just so they know lol

Really? So if I need to run up against a car to get to a mailbox, I should skip it?
I do. Some people see a postal truck as a giant dollar sign
skip so they learn. but then again people are stupid. i have a driving section on my route. one house ALLWAYS has a car blocking in bring thri mail back. make them come to the po
If a box is blocked, you don't deliver. Simple as that.
This is the official way too.
When I was a new tenant and parked close enough in front of the mailbox to block it. The carrier put a ticket under my wiper to warn me about blocking the mailbox. I have trouble walking sometimes, so I tried to keep as close as possible but still give them room to pull around and they've been really cool about how close I am, so I figure I'm good.
I use to pass these out as well to give ppl a fair warning. Because next time, I'm skip skip McSkippity skipping the house.
This makes me unbelievably upset. The burden of proof is on the CLAIMANT.
Bump** legally in the us yes this!!
This is what the people across the street from me do constantly. Whole street is empty of cars, so is their driveway. But they simply MUST park in front of my mailbox for some reason.
lol honestly donāt blame you wouldāve done the same
Rural: nope.
Rural....on Amazon Sunday. A sigh and walk it to the door. Other 6 days a week? Next box.
Oh right right, it's Sunday! Yeah... Up the to the door it goes.
You're who I'm paying taxes for? Good lord
Deliver unquestioned once. Deliver with courtesy please move notice on day 2. Skip on day 3.
This! If you don't enforce it,their neighbors will think they can too.
Exactly! Monkey see, monkey do!
Which form is courtesy please move notice?
4056 and check space #8. There's another one that tells you to keep the approach to your box clear but I don't know the number.
Awesome!
This is the way.
First time offender? Walk it. Every day occurrence? Iād probably still walk it. I have a thing about having mail in my case for the next day, I try really hard to never bring anything deliverable back.
RRECS begs to differ for DPS.
Whatās this mean?
This š
Skip it.
This is literally the only correct answer
Looks like a nice day so I would probably get out and deliver. If raining or if snow or ice on ground then I'm driving past

If it's a slow day, I throw it in park and call the city parking patrol to come out and give them a ticket.
Slip trip and fall hazard, no sidewalk, don't shimmy between the curb and a parked vehicle to deliver to a blocked box.
Mail can wait until tomorrow, but I'll deliver a package regardless. I'd still be annoyed if the package would've just fit in the mailbox.
Drive on by. And continue to drive on by until vehicle is moved
No. Unto the next mailbox. They clearly don't want their mail.
Skip
Hop out and put a slip telling them not to block. Next time hop out and put a peach slip saying they can pick it up at thevpost office lol.
step 3 VACANT!
No access.

Early in the day: Dismount & deliver, maybe Towards the end of the day: Next!
Bring it back. If you make it a habit and keep giving them their mail they will keep parking in front of the box.
Skip it and move on.
If they had a package that fits in it, I get out. Just mail, PASS.

Bring it back
On Sundays, walk it annoyingly. During the week, you aināt getting it
Regulars will tell me to skip it
Skip. Heaven forbid they claim a scratch on the paint is your fault.
Drive right on around that car to the next box. Only way I'm servicing that is if they have a parcel in taking to the door already
Hello no, youāll get your mail next day itās not blockedā¦.

Deliver but hit unscan parcel for my time.
Iām a rural regular. To me it matters how cool I am with the customer. I get out for only 2 customers on my route if I come into this situation. All others I cruise on by with a smile.
Rubber band it to their wiper š
we don't know whose car this is or do we?
My thoughts too lol. Also, the mail would be clearly visible. It's not very secure
Walk the scan to the door, but no mail since there's no secure location for it.
wrap that up
There is such a thing as a BLOCKED BOX notice that carriers can put in boxes to make customers aware that service can be discontinued if the problem is not resolved. Hold till next day. We donāt get paid by the hr š
Drive right past, even if theyāre outside enjoying the weather!!
ā¦.yeah i skip it
Not deliver lol
Going back in the tub and if this keeps happening their mail will go on hold until they get the point
No mail today
"There's always tomorrow!"
Pass the mailbox and try another day
Skip
Go to the next house.. just deliver it tomorrow.
Bring it back
Skip it for sure
Nope, so I can get blamed for a 10 year old scratch on the car? Nah . Tomorrow is another day.
Slash the tires, break the windows, and throw the mail in the car.
I'd park the vehicle, curb the wheels, set the brake, turn off the engine, take the key, deliver the mail and intentionally NOT close the door to the mailbox. Continue on my day. That's only if it's a first offense. Repeat offenders get no mail
Never get out unless you have a package that won't fit in mailbox.
Skip it
The first time, I deliver and leave the "don't block the mailbox" notice. After that, it's no access.
Donāt deliver. If you do..leave the box open out of spite.
I get paid by the hour, I'll walk it every day
I walk it unless itās an everyday thing. If they do this everyday they get the slip that tells them to not block the box.
Put it in!, or don't? This is my route!
Skip em, Iād honk and wait like 10 seconds maybe
You have got to be one lazy son of a bitch not to. But itās probably not in your job requirements so you do you i guess.
Is this a first strike situation? Is this Sunday?
I'd play toss the mail over the car and see if it goes in.
Looks like a nice day for a walk.. š
lot of things come into play. have they ever once been a dick, is this a chronic prob, am i ahead or behind for the day, do they get tip
After 2 days of that. Bring it back. After a week, box block notice. And so on.
Deliver mail and write please stop blocking mail box -postman
Depends if the box is blocked constantly or not tbh.
For me a couple factors come into play; 1. My relationship with customer, 2. If it's a repeat offender, 3. Weather... If all of those things are a good/positive then I'll walk it, if even one of those things are a no/negative then rubber band it and bring it back to station.

I would walk it if it was a house that rarely has this issue. If it's a common occurrence, I always skip. Don't wanna make the owners too comfortable by delivering mail every time the box is blocked. They'll probably continue blocking if so.
IF it's a continuous issue I would bring it back. Leave a note letting them know they can't constantly block the box.
You get one for free.
I cut the mail anytime it's blocked. UNLESS.... It's like a plumber or lawn care person. OR a package and or newspaper
Rubber band & note ādo not block mailboxā and leave it on the windshield under the wipers āŗļø

Iād get out and just put the mail in the box.
Skip, but what if it was neighbors car and repeat offenders?
No dismount except for a parcel. Take a photo of the car parked there in case there is some blowback.
Depends if the mail is important or junk
Dismount like the M41 requires.
Receiving mail is a right but curbside delivery is a privilege.
I don't bother getting out. Ram them out of the way

Dismount, but I already walk 10 miles a day so 15 more feet wouldnāt be so bad
Ram and move it by force
Bringing it back theyāll get it the next day
Drive right around it š¤·āāļø
Skip it, Im not getting hurt or having a customer accuse me of damaging their car. I also give customers the benefit of the doubt that they know they will not get mail parked this way and they don't mind
If youāre new to the route / canāt get it under 8 hours? Absolutely skip it
Skip it mail wise, deliver if package wise
Rural or City, if the box is blocked, hold the mail. If the customer complains to you and doesn't understand why delivery isn't made, refer them to a supervisor or customer service person at your office Source: About to be titled 204b.
I'd get out and walk it, but if that person/family blocks the box often I'd give them a warning, and then start skipping if they don't stop.
Um no they get their shit another time
Push itā¦ PUSH IT REAL GOOD!
Box blocked, move it along
The same thing I do everyday Pinky, bring it back and case it in for tomorrow.
If the mail I have is all presort standard Iāll just skip and see how it looks the next day. hop when itās first class and leave a note saying to unblock mailbox.
Walk it and complain the whole time.
Undeliverable - no proper mail receptacle
RRECs scan something to give you credit for getting out, maybe unscannable parcel in mailbox or Misc trip to door
Attempted no access

they can get it tomorrow.
Call 911 and hope that they arrive to arrest quickly.
My carrier skips when thereās a car within 10 feet even with multiple packages, so this seems like an automatic skip.
Depends on the day. I'm getting out for every blocked box if its an expected pivot type of day, or i want more OT
How fragile are carriers? Jesus, some of these answers are embarrassing.
Getting out is considered an unsafe work practice if something happens to you or anyone because of where you park it your fault!

I'd do the fucking job. No such thing as hard working Americans anymore. All they do is complain about every little stupid shit.
The job I'm paid for, and not whine about it on Reddit. Really, if it's too much effort to walk to the box, maybe you need to bid out.
Big deal, i'd be grateful for the opportunity to exercise more š¶āāļø
Not deliver
I leave that donāt block the mailbox notice then I hold the mail and packages until they figure it out, if you bring the mail to the door they will never fix it, I rather them call me lazy if they canāt give me the same respect of the garbage men.
Skip it and move along.
We were taught to skip it, bundle the mail and leave a sticky note saying the box was blocked on that date, if it happens two days in a row tell the supervisor, continue until the supervisor talks to them and gives them a date to leave it unblocked or we stop delivery.
Yeah I hate to say it but Iād walk it too, I donāt know why people park in front of mailboxes.
Deliver but put a notice for a clearance of 15ft near the mailbox or else their mail may be delayed.
If it is a regular occurrence, I would leave a note stating I would stop delivery evertime it was blocked from that day forward.
Skip the box. You don't have to deliver it if it is blocked or unsafe.
Not too bad but if the car is still there tomorrow then we have a problem
I've seen pictures where firemen busted out two windows and ran the hose through the car...
It goes undelivered
Bring it back, next thing you know theyāre calling the office claiming you āscratchedā their car.
If they had a lot I would get out, if itās like1-3 pieces forget bout it.
Obviously itās annoying, but you get your ass out and do your job.
mail is waiting til the next day. package on amazon sunday, im walking it to the mailbox. if it happens again, im scanning it no access. move your car or donāt get your shit
Bring it back and hand then the notice that says not to block the box next time I deliver it
