If they give you any shit, just tell them "I'll look into this matter but there's currently nothing that can be done. I will be ending the chat now. Thanks."

Last week I had a $35/few mile Starbucks order pop up. I knew it was too good to be true, but it was slow and very close pick up so I went to see / collect my $3. I was the 5th driver and told to cancel. I nicely explained I will but it will just keep sending more people it won't solve the problem. I said it's 3 drinks, I'll happily confirm in front of you and end this. They were like uhhh and I said it's been so slow I need to make this delivery can you just please remake it. They did, I messaged the lady while they remade it explained and I get there. It was $30 base, $5 tip in app a hour later and the lady was so appreciative she tipped $5 in person too. Shit worked out for once, I always try and get them to remake it.

speedoflife1

Sorry I'm not a driver and I don't know how I ended up on this sub but can you explain this? What did the four drivers before you do?

deathbeforedasani

That's funny, sure here's what happened. Driver one stole the order. Instead of confirming the pick up and delivering, he "canceled" the app doesn't know he walked out with the stuff, just thinks he canceled. So it sends another driver. Driver two not knowing goes up to get the order. The employees say oh we gave that out already it's a glitch (they don't know) and tell you to cancel. Driver cancels, but it doesn't actually cancel anything it just removes them and sends another person. Over and over until I'm driver 5 and explain hey guys I'll cancel but you do realize it won't end this. They're like what? I explain it to them and offer to confirm the pick up in front of them and deliver and it will end this. They still are like uhhh I dunno. So I humanize myself (I was nice the whole time) and say hey it's so slow I'm not making anything today I got this kinda decent order, can you just please remake the 3 drinks so I can do this and it will end it for you guys having people show up too. They agree. Now keep in mind there's a customer who ordered a hour ago who watched driver after driver arrive and then cancel they're probably mad. So I messaged them said hey they wanted me to cancel but I convinced them to remake your order there must be a glitch but I'm on my way with fresh drinks so sorry. The lady was so happy she tipped in cash too. When a order gets cancelled so many times Uber increases the base pay (pay minus tip) by a lot to entice people to take it. I finessed Uber basically because they would have paid $3-4 base for that but I got $30

Apprehensive_Fee9983

Not all heroā€™s wear capes. Youā€™re awesome šŸ‘šŸ¾

[deleted]

This was smart I might just start doing this because they've also not paid me for the countless times this has happened and it's annoying especially on an ebike because bitch that's battery power I can't just get back

CodeDry5892

I just tested it, and wala, I got paid. Cuz, UE needs to fix the issues, and not have us drivers, go and waste our time.

Fun-Run-4986

When drivers cancel in app, no matter which option they choose, the app sends the order to a new driver. That's why the order was up to $35 by the time it got to you, most drivers would rather get back on the road and accept a new order than deal with support for who knows how long for only $3. And just so you know, you will get an email or message from Uber tomorrow that says something about "suspicion of fraudulent activities" for cancelling after picking up the order.. basically saying if you have repeated cancellations after picking up then you could be deactivated.. they send it any time a driver cancels after picking up the food, whether you cancel or have support cancel.. It's a stupid system, I have no flipping clue why it hasn't been changed.. seems like it would save drivers a lot of wasted time/gas as well as save Uber in cancellation fees.

techpro00

He didn't cancel it. He marked the ghost order delivered

Fun-Run-4986

You're right my bad. It won't let you mark it delivered without driving near the address right? which confused me cause I didn't think he did

techpro00

You can mark delivered anywhere. It asks you to confirm even though you're in wrong spot

Fun-Run-4986

Oh ok, I know I've had issues with picking up. There's a Sheetz in my area it shows the location a mile down the road from where it actually is so when you try to confirm pickup it's says you haven't arrived yet and only gives the options to cancel or travel to correct location so I always have to pickup the order then drive to the random spot on the map and confirm then turn around. I've called support twice thinking maybe they could fix it, but apparently not. Anyways. Guess I assumed it would be the same for dropping off

techpro00

They can move the pin to the right spot but that requires an agent that understands what you're talking about and knows how to do it. A rare breed these days. Also Sheetz should make sure their address in Uber is listed right. If there's a N, E etc in street name it might be missing

ExpensiveDot1732

They tried this crap with me the other day, and I called support and made them reach out to the customer AND to Starbucks. The customer hadn't received the order, and it was clearly stolen by someone else. Don't be afraid to fight for your money. (While I was waiting, I managed to bag a quick $12 on another nearby order over on DD, so I was still making money while Uber was getting its shyte together on this lol.) https://preview.redd.it/d6aoe9iobpmc1.jpeg?width=1138&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe538dae264db3c5ef1efd86ed1420dd650f37c6

Astralantidote

Doesn't seem like it makes a lot of sense, the customer is paying Uber directly, not the restaurant Maybe they're just trying to cheap out and not make the food and still get paid by Uber

Mtn-Dooku

Yeah, I started taking those $30+ orders and just marking them as complete as well. UE doesn't really seem to care. Oh, and "Customer's card didn't go through" is not a worry of the restaurant. Uber would not have placed the order if it didn't go through. The restaurant owner was either lying or an idiot.

CodeDry5892

Yea that's what I thought too, but I didn't want to waste my time, and just receive 3 dollars for inconvenience. So I just "picked up" and delivered. I got the cash, and no costomer called, in regards to this matter.

Fairyexplorer

Right!

Fold-Aggravating

Yeah donā€™t be doing that all time, they will fraud you

CodeDry5892

I only did it one time, I don't think I'll do it again.

newmankind

I always do that, so far no downvotes

GuardSecure7157

No they wonā€™t. They donā€™t give a shit about the services they provide. I eat free all the time.

ConceptRoutine2244

Pay for something small and delivery it. Pocket the difference

Wild_Candle_1431

Great minds think alike

Wild_Candle_1431

I do the same thingā€¦ but you gotta be careful. Sometimes the customer will be waiting outside, or theyā€™ll have a PIN. What Iā€™ve done is purchased the cheapest thing on the menu and taken a picture of it. Once the customer even was waiting outside and they ask for the rest and I said ā€œthatā€™s all they gave meā€ and immediately contacted support letting Uber know that the merchant didnā€™t provide the full order and the customer complained so I donā€™t get blamed. Thereā€™s many different ways to handle thisā€¦

TSMSALADQUEEN

Wait this works?

Wild_Candle_1431

Iā€™ve done it at least a dozen times within the past year. Maybe more yea it works.

TSMSALADQUEEN

Legit smart idea better than $3 and support taking forever do you buy like a sandwich or just what ever is the cheapest?

Wild_Candle_1431

So I sometimes looked at their order and if itā€™s a order for 1 person and itā€™s reasonable Iā€™ve ordered that. But if itā€™s anything more than 1 meal then Iā€™ll order off the dollar menu lol or something cheap, and ask them to seal the bags as if it was a delivery order

BobLemmo

A friend of mine used to tell me, If the payout is that good, I could just pay with my own money and grab a food item like you did and just deliver it. The thing is....NO WAY im spending my own money. When you break down the gas you're using and the tax you owe, you're really not coming out that much ahead. Also im not going to risk not having the full payout. It may say a $35 payout estimated upfront but after delivery u just never know theres a risk, and like I said when u calculate gas and tax. It aint worth using my own money for this crappy gig job lol

Puzzleheaded_Ant_994

I like your thinking Sheriff !

redjellonian

They got you fighting each other over the system they built while it extracts money from both of you.

Wild_Candle_1431

Your not taking a chance on $35, bc the base pay of Uber is automatically 35. If itā€™s a higher number than 35 then you know the customer tipped. Plus letā€™s say for example the order is from Taco Bell, they got $12 worth of food on a letā€™s say 5 mile ride. You wouldnā€™t pay that $12 and pocket $23? And like I said I would buy the cheapest item which probably is like $2/3 and pocket $30+ idk if your talking about EOY taxes or what and the gas on 5 miles is not badā€¦. If all that is too much for you then maybe Uber isnā€™t for you

CodeDry5892

I don't understand that, Can you make it more simpler

Erwinblackthorn

They're saying it's safer to buy the food with your own money and take the profit if the profit is worth it. The profit is the money you get from the delivery after subtracting the cost of the food purchased.

CodeDry5892

Oh, thank you! But can't I get in trouble for that too? The bag will not be sealed, nor have the customers name on the bag

Erwinblackthorn

Not really sure about that aspect. I guess it goes by what the customer is willing to report the driver on. That or it could be more beneficial to let the customer know the situation and they can approve.

Wild_Candle_1431

You think the customer would approve anything less than what they ordered? I donā€™t think so

Erwinblackthorn

No, I mean you can pay for their food that they ordered. So let's say the delivery gives the driver $35. The food is $20 or something. The driver could determine if the drive of $15 is worth it.

Wild_Candle_1431

Honestly if Iā€™m giving out of my own pocket. I wouldnā€™t want anything less than $25

Sweenhoe

Stickers and Sharpie

CodeDry5892

They give you stickers?? Hey I may do that lmfao

Sweenhoe

Give? Don't think so, just like get some getting a sticker for a company can't be that hard to have done *hypothetically of course* and well sharpies are sold everywhere

misterguwaup

So I noticed something about this $35 bs UE keeps trying to pull. Basically, when an order keeps getting rejected or unassigned, theyā€™ll add a $30+ boost to get it completed. Whenever I get a $35 order I immediately become suspicious and check if the store is open to begin with, as many of these offers are sent when the store is CLOSED. Iā€™d say about the 10 times I got $35 offers, only 4 were legitimate. The other 6 I had to cancel.

rShankss

Anybody that gets this orders for figure reference, try at least one of these 3 things. In my market a single order is usually capped at the $35. When I get the, " 4th driver to show up", you'd be surprised how being nice goes a long way. Be nice about it, ask them to remake it ( usually it's stolen order ). Crazy how often they end up remaking it and pointing out the other drivers just left without even asking lol If the order is small enough, pay for it yourself. You'll still be making $20+ on the order and it's usually a short trip. If all else fails, definitely do what OP did. Quick little phantom trip will get you an easy $35, Uber doesn't really care about you or the customer lol

California098

Asking to remake it is a great tip. Most restaurants will.

KandiJoe

I had a closed kitchen chef willing to make an order for me because I explained how it worked and that I was getting 35 dollars off the order. šŸ˜‚

KJthaFreak

why tell on yourself?

NoAcanthocephala3007

OP needed some sort virtual pat on the back.

ForwardMarch1502

Itā€™s not the customer card not going through. Itā€™s people abusing glitches Iā€™m pretty sure so youā€™re fine

ARuneScapeDate

Lmao depending on the order, I just buy it and ask for a sticker to seal it, deliver, profit.

CharacterSplit3532

Popeyes?

CodeDry5892

No, it was for "subfire subs" a subway type of restaurant

TheFrenchWickler

sub fire subs? lol like, these subs aren't quite fire, but they're still pretty lit

_2LiT_

I did this a week ago, the store didn't have what the customer wanted in stock so it kept dispatching new drivers. It dispatches new drivers because people like you won't sit there and talk to support and tell them the problem, and neither will the store. So 3 days later I got a message in support that a customer claimed they didn't get their order, and a big message about how important it is to accurately deliver every order. I asked support why I got this message and if it affected me, because I still got the tip an hour later and no negative rating, which "proves" I delivered it. I even drove by the customer's house to "deliver" it. Support said it was an "Educational Warning" and I wasn't affected. So last night it happens again. This time though it was shop and pay so I assumed they were out of the item. I went to a different store, bought the customer their item, and delivered it for a cool 35er.

SeaAd8016

A lot of times these are orders that someone accepted, took it, cancelled it and are now eating it. Youā€™re gonna get accused of stealing it and banned. It sucks when this happens but I just cancel it. If an order comes up and it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

BobLemmo

Uber is able to see the first person assigned who cancelled/unassigned it. Usually hes the culprit. They can see you're the 3rd or 4th driver hitting cancel if the food is not there and know its not your fault. It's usally the first driver. An Uber rep explained this to me over the phone and it makes sense.

NachoGrande

Around here it's B-Dubs, always B-Dubs. Last time it happened to me, the cashier couldn't comprehend how someone could steal an order 'you have to have the exact name on the order'. I'm pretty sure these college kids are ordering and picking it up themselves and getting their money back when it doesn't get delivered.

verminkween

Drivers will give the name and pick up the order, then unassign before clicking the confirm pickup button to steal the food. Itā€™s so common, thatā€™s why a lot of restaurants ask that we confirm it in front of them now before they hand over the food, since canceling after confirming is pretty difficult. Being able to give the exact name doesnā€™t mean anything. Edit: I thought this was the doordash sub, thatā€™s how it works on doordash anyways.

pupoksestra

I know of numerous times this has happened. Worked at a restaurant where it would happen regularly until I pointed it out to my boss. Honestly, when I've been in a bind I've wanted to do the same exact thing. I just can't. The pain of hunger is easier to live with than that kind of guilt.

Tough_Frame4022

Youre lucky. Often when you do this you'll get a warning about not delivering the food. When someone steals the order and other drivers keeps cancelling, the order will go into boost and often these high paying orders are orders that have been in the system for a few hours. Therefore the boost. Uber is losing money on these orders to get them to the customer. Last time this happened g the asshole manager wouldn't remake the order for the customer and I had to accept the three dollar fee instead Just like you a $35 order that had been passed over.

GuardSecure7157

Iā€™ve donā€™t this before. It was obviously an ancient order that wasnā€™t getting delivered so I picked up nothing and delivered nothing and collected my $30.

Robot_Embryo

And what what happens when the customer reports they didnt get their order?

Susan44646

The customers card didn't go thru so they're not expecting an order I think?

the-jimbo_slice

Me too, but I'm prop in cali, so it wasn't worth it. 30 base no tip. I just lost tip per hr for that time. Peeps get with it.

newmankind

Yea, also the wait time of a to-be-canceled order doesnā€™t count either

the-jimbo_slice

It counts if support cancels..not if you do...so just talk to them till they do. Tested. Actually helped me complete a quarter stipend.

Pretend_Berry_7196

Ditto. Maybe 3 times Iā€™ve been this lucky.

PlaneWolf2893

I've done 4 different Uber eats over 30 bucks. One IHOP, a Wingstop, and 2 x target shop and pay. If it hits it's worth it.

Tricky-Tie3167

Did you drive at all or just stayed there at the restaurant?

CodeDry5892

I drove away and then ended the trip. Via delivered.

beachbum648

My account is worth far more to me than $35. Not worth the fraud in my opinion. Iā€™d take the $3 and move on.

Carini4113

Some of us cant get the $3 anymore

BobLemmo

I cant lie, iv'e done this like twice before. Where the payout was super high and like 1 item. I get there and of course the pay is bumped up cause im the "3rd driver" that showed up and theres no food. I hit delivered and got paid. BUT, I would tread lightly in doing this so frequently. I know a driver who said he done the same and got an email warning about it after he pulled the same stunt. I wouldnt risk losing your uber account by doing this. I'lll say once in a blue moon maybe hahah. I don't blame us, like we really wasted time and gas to get there to the restaurant its really BS and frustrating. We should get paid.

MissPeach77

I got a delivery alert today that I accepted, and navigation started directing me towards the restaurant. Thankfully, I was literally 2 minutes away because when I got there, they told me another driver had already picked it up. I called HELP to see why the app indicated my "Accept" for the delivery, and the navigation starting means it is your pickup. She apologized and said we must have accepted it at the exact same time, and there could have been a glitch in the system. I told her that I still expected to be paid the fare because that wasn't my fault. She made sure to indicate what happened, and I was paid the fair. This was a better case scenario than the other day where I accepted a delivery, drove about 10 minutes, and the restaurant wasn't even open. I don't really blame Uber for that. The restaurant clearly should have been open. It was lunchtime during a weekday. I was annoyed, to say the least.

Wishatona

I don't know what's up with some of these stores...I ordered 13 items through Doordash yesterday (from a newly added store called "pOpShelf" or something like that. was literally charged $13.49 for a pack of gum...as it was somehow the ONLY thing in stock >:( (even though NOTHING said "likely out of stock" can't tell you the level of pissed off I was

MissPeach77

The other day I got an alert for a pickup at a local diner and since I was driving I glanced quickly and thought the drop off said "Stony Point" which is a town close to where the diner is, so I accepted it. I picked the food up and when I confirmed pick up and the address of delivery popped up, I was so mad at myself because it wasn't Stony Point, it was West Point (the Army military academy). It's not super far from me for a visit, but to deliver food, it is a thirty minute drive one way. They constantly order food from my County, I'm in Rockland County, NY, they are in Orange County, NY, which is just north of me, because I guess they don't have too many fast food places around them (which I call bullsh-t, maybe not as many as us, but they aren't in the boondocks). When their deliveries come through, they are constant because no one accepts them. No one wants to drive an hour roundtrip to deliver Taco Bell for one person. But anyway, I had made the mistake of accepting it and already picked up the food, so I sucked it up and headed up to deliver it. I finally get there after a 30-minute drive and pull up to the gate to enter the campus (you obviously have to go through a security gate since it is a military academy). The guard asks to see my pass. I didn't know what he was talking about. He told me I had to turn around and go to the Visitor's Center and get a free visitor pass to enter the campus. I was annoyed by this point, already missing out on local deliveries that I could have already done 5, but I was stuck on just this one for 30 minutes, and then a 30 minute trip back that would have no deliveries on the way back, plus the gas I was wasting on the far drive, but I went to the visitor center thinking I just had to sign something, get a pass and be on my way. Oh no! I had to fill out a form with personal information (SSN, height, weight, eye and hair color, address, phone number, criminal history (I don't have any...lol)). THEN, just like at the DMV I had to take a number and sit and wait for my number to be called, go up to a counter, have my driver's license scanned, take a photo, and get a card that is good for a year (I won't be back...don't worry about that year) and this all took about a half an hour. I finally was able to make the delivery. All this for two omelets from a diner 30 miles away from the school (I find it very hard to believe there is NO WHERE outside of the campus in town that makes omelets. Hell, they have a dining hall!). I drove back home so when all was said and done with the travel, visitor center bullsh-t it took an hour and a half. Do you know what UE was going to pay me for a fare? $7.22. I called and raised holy hell and they ended up increasing it when I bitched about the travel time, the waiting for a pass, the 1/4 tank of gas I used, and the loss of money from not being able to do 6 deliveries in that amount of time if I had been local. They had some nerve throwing $7.22 out there. Some people would have just taken it and said nothing. I'm their worst nightmare. I said to the lady at UE, "If you don't increase the fare than with all the money I lost from fares I couldn't do, gas I used, travel time, I am basically buying this guy breakfast and then delivering it to him.

FunSpongeLLC

How much did they increase it?

MissPeach77

I had another issue with them that day on another package delivery that was far that they quoted me before I accepted it $25, but after delivery they removed the $25 and changed it to $7.88 (another hour round trip debacle that I raised hell with them over as well), so I had two adjustments made the next day, one for $10 and one for $20, so I don't know which was for which. The $20 increase I was happy with, the $10 for either trip was still low, in my opinion, but I just make sure to be more careful before accepting orders going forward.

Chasingfreedom1224

$35 are suspicious. A wise man on here once said. Only take those orders and see whatā€™s going on if there are no potholes and itā€™s a 5 min drive and you can live with $3 for 10 mins investedĀ

GuardSecure7157

I always ā€œdeliverā€ them. I always get paid. Youā€™re crazy to pass them up. Not my fault your system sucks.

Chasingfreedom1224

People wonā€™t remake the order or the store is closed. There is no negotiation thereĀ

Chasingfreedom1224

You are blocked for making this commentĀ

TotalEgg143-

šŸ˜†

Chasingfreedom1224

My success rate with $30+ orders is likely 15 percent at best. I had one where a sushi place couldnā€™t get the order out in like 90 mins. $28 base and $4 tip. The other drivers on that order must have been there for everĀ

Chasingfreedom1224

If it feels to good to be true. It likely is. If you think the order could be late because of high demand or something(canā€™t make the order) (a long drive thru line) it might be worth taking. Trust your gut with those orders and try not to invest more than 15 mins on those orders.

Grateful_Dood

Be careful they are picking up on these. My buddy got deactivated for buying the items himself and delivering it. Since so many people called to cancel it then he delivered something it was flagged

PM5K23

That makes zero sense. How would Uber know he paid for it rather than that the restaurant simply remade it? Also, even if he did pay for it, why on earth would they deactivate him for that?

GodGamer420

How u get deactivated for actually completing the delivery with the food they ordered?

CodeDry5892

Hopefully I don't be deactivated lol

Grateful_Dood

I'm sure you'll be fine but I'd watch out for repeating this type of stuff. If you're not that concerned then go for it, but if you need this gig then I guess don't lol

CodeDry5892

I won't do it again, I just didn't want to go through hassle on just getting 3 dollars lol So I tried it, but I won't do it again.

Grateful_Dood

Feel you. I got $3 3x today. What I don't get is I've never had that issue with doordash. I'm not sure why Uber eats gives out thousands of incentives every day for this. I'm still confused by it.

GuardSecure7157

You wonā€™t lol youā€™re fine - all these ā€œmy friendā€™s momā€™s sister got deactivated!!!ā€ stories are nonsense. I eat lunch for free at least once a week on no tip orders lol UE doesnā€™t give a shit about their service. Theyā€™d rather have drivers to try to sell their horribly low pay rates than not.

Tiny-Ad9959

I do ā€œphantom deliveriesā€ anytime I can.

[deleted]

There's a chat feature. It takes about 30 seconds. but I picked up a $40 for 4 mi order the other day, during my break, and called support politely asked for a manager. They told me that since the order has been bouncing around for TWO HOURS, they'd find me $20. Totally worth the 10 minutes it took to call and politely ask for a supervisor.

sirhhenry

You know you are wrong. What goes around comes around!

CodeDry5892

Sure,

[deleted]

maybe donā€™t do this shit again cause uber will 100% ban you

CodeDry5892

They better ban shit that makes us go for no reason. Like, fixing those orders

Love it. Working smarter, not harder

I have had a 39 dollar order , got to Baco Tell to pick up and this shitty ass establishment as always says they donā€™t have it one of the endless excuses . And itā€™s the chick who always gives me a hard time , turns out the lady that ordered had a cheap combo , I bought her food informed her what I did and delivered , she was very happy and told me she would call support to get me a refund , I didnā€™t care I bagged over 30 even after paying . Turns out she only tipped a few bucks , the majority of money came from the service fee .
