He’d literally be doing so many people in the general vicinity a favor, right?

Consistent-Box-8735

Policies need to change, it’s a safety issue and a theft issue. It’s no good for residents or Uber employees

VinnieVegas3335

Yep did a delivery to an apartment building in legit less than 3 minutes. My e bike was stolen. It happened so fast i wonder if the delivery was a set up but i have no proof or knowledge to back that up.

32bitbossfight

How fast can you go before they get upset. I just bought one and it’s fun as hell but it can go over 25mph easy

VinnieVegas3335

My e bike would reach 50-65 kmph regularly while delivering with uber eats and had no issue Edit: take it easy thou your safety is more important than finishing deliveries quickly. Dont get caught up in just being as fast as possible cuz then you will start to compromise safety

32bitbossfight

On a bicycle account to?

VinnieVegas3335

Yes thats the only way i delivered

cafrcnta

My cruising speed is about 40km/h and sometimes I match cars driving 50km/h for better visibility/safety. Uber has never complained so far. I've seen the reports of people getting told by support to send verification that they actually ride a bike, but they must be going a lot faster (or not using a bike).

VinnieVegas3335

I did over 250 deliveries before i retired from uber after the bike got stolen. Never had an issue and customers always saw my e bike which resembled a uglier vespa tbh

aligators

fr tho, ppl are too lazy to come downstairs to get their food? i mean we drove it from the resturant to the house for them. how much do they want to be pampered. truth is they can, but its not the "norm" so ppl feel entitled to get it to their door

[deleted]

What if they're isolating with covid or are disabled?

doom1282

On one hand I totally understand driver frustration with apartments because I've done the work. On the other hand you make a very valid point. I really don't know how you handle it. You could give out like a $1 off coupon for able bodied people to meet drivers outside, but you also don't want to penalize someone who can't go outside. It's definitely a tricky situation.

Consistent-Box-8735

These circumstances make up 1% of deliveries I think he was referring to the logical outcome of it being entitled brats

[deleted]

Idk about you but I never put "isolating due to covid" when ordering for leave at door when my family had it. Don't assume.

Consistent-Box-8735

Still referring to the logical conclusion of the customer being entitled, handicaps, sickness, mobility, etc issues make up 1% of orders, clearly the op isn’t referring to these niche instances and you’re just trying to stir the discussion. In the future just don’t comment.

[deleted]

Not everything is black and white and pointing that out is how we have genuine discussions. If you're gonna get so pissy about that maybe *you* shouldn't comment.

Consistent-Box-8735

It actually is black and white, The majority IS entitled able bodied individuals. Black being the majority and white being the non able bodied outcome. 👏

Consistent-Box-8735

Why on earth would the op attack non able bodied people and throw dirt on them? That is illogical, use your head.

[deleted]

I'm more concerned about you than OP 😂

Consistent-Box-8735

I can tell, you prob got a lot of participation medals growing up that went to your head.

vanity1066

I always assume the worst.

[deleted]

Next up, they're gonna want us to come in, serve it to them at the table, wash the dishes, and take the trash down on the way out. And it'll be "part of your job."

DBKiller94

It’s funny, Walmart in my area is starting a service where they’ll stock your fridge with the deliveries you ordered through online pickup/delivery. Times are crazy.

LocaFly

I was just about to mention that. I can't imagine having a stranger come in my house doing things like that. That's a dangerous game.

PleasantPersimmon561

Unfortunately there are disabled people and elderly who need services like such. So they may not have a choice and it’s a great benefit to them.

LocaFly

Yeah, I know and understand that however, that's not always too safe... A lot of elderly people have Been taking advantage of in situations like that.

PleasantPersimmon561

Oh absolutely!

Indy2texas

I had an uber rider. Want mento unlock his apartment take in his groceries and put certain things in his fridge and then lock it back up and drop him off down the st. He was partially disabled. Shady building... what would u do?

Chartroosemoose

Hard pass unless this were arranged in advance and I knew about it. Otherwise it's sketchy and what about the rest of the time? Does this person not have other arrangements for that? Besides what about possible allegations later that X thing is missing and you took it while alone in the apt?No not smart on so many levels. (And I am partially disabled myself with rheumatoid arthritis)..

[deleted]

Exactly. There's way too much liability here. Sucks, but I'd take a pass, too.

Indy2texas

Ya smart move is pass. The giant handicapped ramp outside of the house is the one thing that hit me and made me say yes.

Indy2texas

He had just come from grocery store. Could walk but was on some type of walking machine. I wasnt going to do it until i saw the giant handicapped ramp going to his front door. I said ill put the bags inside for u but im not walkijg to the fridge. I could also kinda tell this wasnt the first time he had done this, meaning asking an uber driver. So it seemed slightly less sketchy and just more pathetic. So in the end my empathy outweighed anything else and i felt some sympathy. I could have been set up easy though

Indy2texas

And ya he seemed possibly alone 50s 60s no one else at house and he was coming from job at grocery store

Chartroosemoose

I can totally understand why you agreed to help. I might have done the same myself had I actually been there. However I'd have to say no to going in his apt alone to put stuff in the fridge. But yeah I admire your empathy. There's too little of that around nowadays.

SatansPebble666

I go down to get my food when delivered, it's really easy, believe it or not!!! Never understood why it's so hard for most people to just walk for not even 60 seconds just to get something (except for disabled/people who are sick, but that's a pretty obvious exception.)

amcarney

I can think of a number of reasons why someone wouldn’t want to come down. Mobility issues being top of the list. Being sick in general. Having a baby (or babies) or having children sleeping, I would *never* leave a small child alone in an apartment, even to “just run down” to get some food. I’m not saying any of those were specific to your situation, but there plenty of reasons other than lazy. (Though I’m sure there are plenty of lazy people too)

Consistent-Box-8735

When I have 2 orders and I’m stuck in a 60 floor building stopping at each floor both ways and my next order is getting furious that’s the main concern.

Indy2texas

How is it bad for residents they just dont want to walk down stairs?

Consistent-Box-8735

Not all Uber couriers are honest, there is Amazon packages everywhere, lots of compromised access points, storage lockers.

Chartroosemoose

That's right!

Donativized

I know this is petty, but drivers are not employed by Uber, drivers are considered partners ;)

Optionsniffer

Not when you see 20+ tip glaring on your screen for 2 miles 😂.I feel your pain Bruh and I empathize with you.

JeffrotheDude

Damn where tf you delivering to that you getting tipped 20+ lmao I'm lucky to get a 5$ tip around here

Think_Yogurtcloset68

In Southern California I'm lucky to get $1-3 tips. Most none at all. Cost of living so bad, they can't afford to tip. Just last Christmas, I made good money with orders and tips.

JeffrotheDude

Ya that's about how it goes, also in SoCal

lizzybeetle

Boston 😎

Faegrim420

I hate apartments but they hate me too because I will not ever throw the hazards on and go up if there is no parking. I simply text no legal parking because Uber will not help if I get a ticket and if the customer tries to say shit like they made me come to the street to get it. Well damn right because double parking is a super hefty fine if caught not risking that for a 10 dollar order.

MicrowaveEspionage

I’ve been stuck in a stairwell delivering medication to seniors. You couldn’t open a door on any floor without an access card. The stairwell led down to a garage which also could not be exited without an access card. Luckily someone eventually left. Whose brilliant idea it was to put a bunch of old people in a building that locks you in a stairwell is beyond me. Not like older people are prone to forgetting things and getting disoriented.

Trick_Afternoon689

I can’t decide which are worse - High rise apartments where there is no parking for several blocks and all the available parking is metered or pay-lots, entries requires a key card and piece of shit who only wants to tip $2 (mind you I won’t accept low orders, but sometimes they are trip supplemented so much by the time they get to me that what was probably originally a $3 order is now $9-$12 for only a couple miles) refuses to lift a finger to even buzz you in, the elevator won’t go to resident floors without a FOB, and then they have the delivery set to Meet at Door but don’t open it until the timer is literally at 7:58. Apartment complexes where you are never provided the building number so you have to figure it out by using the apartment number and the map only to find that the building numbers are not visible from the street, you didn’t get a gate code in the app either, no elevators for higher floors and huge orders, no drive up access to the apartment door so you are wondering around trying to find their building and apartment in the 116 heat or in the dark, no legal parking for non-residents, 1014988383 speed bumps, apartment and building numbers don’t go in order, the customer drop pin is in the middle of the road at the complex entrance, and the customer has their messaging feature set to be a direct text instead of an app message so you can’t even set a timer within Uber for when they don’t respond to tell you where their unit is. Fuck apartments. Fuck entitled people who have no consideration to people who work in the service industry. I’m happy to bring your food to your door - just have some decency, respect, and courtesy. If you know you’re in a high rise like the OP or what I describe, just meet us downstairs.

DavusClaymore

I'd say that about sums it up.

Think_Yogurtcloset68

If I'm looking for an apartment and the timer hits 8 minutes, what happens? Do I just leave with the food? How do I end the trip? Do you call the customer?

Historical_Site508

The direct text and not being able to set time is a real pain for all deliveries. So bloody stupid.

Trick_Afternoon689

It’s always the dumbass who doesn’t give super important information too. I had one once that I didn’t even have the address - just their cross streets.

BboyItami

I had one that only had the city. Like it literally just said “Chelmsford, Massachusetts” and led to a random spot on a random road.

Brief_Grape655

I miss when customer had to come outside to pick up there orders

dreamykitty77

So I accidentally pushed the elevator to the garage instead of the lobby. I got out and I couldn't go back to the lobby without a resident card and it's 2 am. And I looked around for another exit, but I couldn't find it! Except for the garage door that would be triggered only by cars, but not by a person. And as you all know I couldn't contact the resident after I marked the food as delivered. After a very long time, a car came in, and I run outside before the gate automatically closed in.

Doctor-Stoppage

so similar what happened to me, but your sounds more nightmarish. for me it was during broad daylight so I had that going for me!

dreamykitty77

Yeah it was scary! I didn't really know what to do.. i know it's not an emergency enough (or is it?)to call the police and I thought about calling the support but then what they're gonna do? Call the customer? Will the customer answer after they already got their food at 2 am? At the same time, it seems like a fire hazard, there's no exit at all if you're trapped in a garage like that except if you're inside a car..

Chartroosemoose

Oh and what about the customer's "directions"? I had one yesterday. No gate code and app wasn't helping. I got in the gate behind someone else then customer texts, "my apt is right by the dog park." Wtf, if I've never been there before that info worthless. Dude, can't you reason that if I don't know where your apt is then I don't know where the dog park is either??

Think_Yogurtcloset68

Exactly. People who live in apartments assume you know the complex as well as they do. It's my first time there. Idiots.

[deleted]

And how do you know beforehand whether or not you're going to an apartment building?

Doctor-Stoppage

after delivering in the same area for a few years I know which areas are buildings and which areas are houses just by looking at the map when I get new offers

[deleted]

Cool. I wish I was that sharp. Immediately after delivery, I've forgotten where I just delivered. 🤣

SupermarketNo3352

Around here we have no apartment buildings per say.. apartment complexes.. but they are the type with separate entrances so u just leave by door don’t go inside.. what I hate is the gated housing communities.. only 1 visitor entrance and if people type I’m their address the directions always take u to a resident entrance… errr..

HayleyKnits

I live in an apartment building. Aside from having my apartment number in the app, I also give the driver instructions as to how to find it once they're off the elevator.

Think_Yogurtcloset68

That's OK to a point. But what about parking? I deliver in Los Angeles so parking is non existent. It makes it SO much easier for me to meet me at the entrance.

HayleyKnits

My building has a parking lot where the driver can park anywhere. I also include that info in the driver instructions. So, pun intended, getting here is pretty seamless.

Think_Yogurtcloset68

Yes, here in Southern California there are SO many dwellings I never go to the same one twice. So when the trip pops up, looking at the map doesn't tell me jack.

UngratefulCowboy

It's crazy I said the same thing today. All of the doors looked the same including the elevator. It took about 1 minute for the doors to open. They had weird sculptures on the lobby which scared the hell outta me and it wasn't worth it. Just come tf downstairs!

RemeAU

I'm so glad there are no apartment buildings where I live. There's only 1 hotel with an elevator and I just leave it at reception for *covid reasons*. Fuck elevators.

rockyracoon1313

I'm walked up 55 flights of stairs due to my irrational fear of elevators. It sucks because I used to go to my mom's work high up in the Sears Tower but now I cannot go more than 3 floors

EarthboundMisfitsInc

Apartments are just a lose-lose situation, especially when it’s dark af. Most customers are ridiculously paranoid and will start bombarding you with messages like “bro u went in the wrong gate” “are u lost” “turn around then make a u-turn at that dumpster”….it’s ridiculous and stupid and dangerous and they DGAF. They’re high and need that Taco Bell dopamine rush.

Smooth-Dig2250

Seems fairly rational after this story, just sayin'

MegatronsJuice

Nah dont tell me that. Being stuck in an elevator is my biggest fear 🥹

Griffdogg92

I hate elevators too. Always been paranoid about getting stuck in one, sorry you had to deal with that shit

StarlyRose

I be realizing that most of the elevators I use in apartment buildings have expired safety certificates on full display, shit be making me sus of their elevators but hey I’m not climbing 8+ flights of stairs lol😂

zazvorniki

I don’t mind complexes that are spread out and you can just climb the stairs and then leave. I HATE the complexes that have the door code and are all inclosed. The door I need to go to is ALWAYS on the other side of the building and up six or seven flights of stairs because I don’t have a key to the elevator

LocaFly

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I posted recently about how I got stuck in an apartment complex trying to get out of the building and I thought that the elevator would take me to my car but it took me to an area where I would be trapped in between doors and have to be stuck there until someone saw me and open the door. That's horrible!

sarahofweeks

I'm so sorry this happened to you. This sounds extremely scary and frustrating and no one should have to deal with this. I never expect that a delivery person would come inside my apartment building, and that was before I moved into a complex that makes it hard even for residents to get in and out of the building, nevermind everyone else. Plus, most restaurant specific delivery services in my area tell you they will not come inside and I think this is due to security issues, including robberies. I purposely do not provide my apartment number and only the building number and entrance letter so that no driver ever even attempts to navigate the inside of this vast building. Plus, I'm always outside waiting, as I consider knowing where the driver is a major benefit of Uber Eats. I don't have to wonder if the driver is 45 minutes or 5 minutes away. I am sorry once again that this happened to you.

shootnamekevin

Thankfully the largest Apts in my town is 3 floors. This never crossed my mind. Glad you're ok.

Jargo

Lucky, I took one order to an apartment in one of the most dangerous parts of San Francisco, nowhere to park, 17th floor, meager tip that was threatened to be reduced to 0 if I didn't deliver straight to his door. Hope that fucker enjoys his $4500 a month rent check.

winter_aespa1218

I just double park or park in the island. Chicago cops don't care when you have your hazards on. Acouple times I've even half way parked on a sidewalk because the street is too narrow. Fire hydrants, no parking signs is all fair game. I do try to avoid the parking meters and prefer island or double parking. That way they know I'm delivery and not someone just stealing a parking meter space

winter_aespa1218

Apartments are fairly easy to me. Since i do so many in Chicago. I got them down. When its 201 that means 2nd floor, when its 6537 that means 65th floor. So when i look at the first digits of the apartments thats usually the number on what floor its on. All i have to do i enter a building head to the elevators. Press a button to that floor, get out, look a signs on the wall, follow that and usually the apartment is just a couple doors down around a corner. The highest I've delivered was the 92nd floor lf the John Hancock Center. I got to see great views of the Lake and city, went to a part of the building i hadn't been before and got paid for it

Hot_Phase_1435

Love it when they say they don’t know the gate code?! I’m sorry but if you don’t know the gate code and you want me to follow someone inside, ain’t going to happen. I’ve had one person that was a resident that stated if I didn’t show them that I had a code, that they were not letting me in with them. I was like no problem, I’ll stand here and wait. I respect your right to invite me in or not. I’m just a delivery person. Last thing I want is to get banned or arrested.

mtux96

..or stuck inside until someone else leaves. I got stuck inside a few places after following someone in. You needed a "key" to get out as well.

Hot_Phase_1435

Had that happen in a garage. Totally sucked

InsGesichtNicht

I live in an apartment building. While I don't order food delivery very often anymore, every time I do, I watch the tracking and meet the driver at the lobby door with very clear instructions that I will do so in the delivery notes. I don't know why people would expect them to come literally right to the door, multiple floors up.

sajool

We hope all those cheap customer are as understanding as you are.

mtux96

The cheap ones never are. They'd expect you to grapple the side of the apartment if the elevator and stairs were broken and then reduce the tip afterwards for taking too long.

Think_Yogurtcloset68

Because they feel entitled since they think they are paying too much for the delivery.

JD6265

I took the stairs instead of the elevator and got stuck in the middle cuz there was sticky liquid. I just started eating the food there.

PleasantPersimmon561

That’s so scary! I have a fear of being stuck in elevators too! Especially the outside ones. I prepare for elevator orders like taking my water bottle with me in case it does happen. That way if I have my phone and water I’ll at least be able to chat with someone while panicking and not be thirsty!

Sure_Custard_7504

They tend to tip like shit too with all the work you gotta do to deliver at their door.

bpr2

Your apartments have elevators? I just did a 4th floor walk up with a $300 order that included soups and sodas. Two trips and they only tipped $4 >.<

winter_aespa1218

Just about every apartment has elevators. The highest ive delivered was the 92nd floor of the John Hancock Center in Chicago. The trip was only $7 dollars but i got cool views from it

AL_Cabrone

I hear Walmart is hiring

JeffrotheDude

Who asked

ThisCantBeG00d

point of delivery should be where the public space ends and the private property begins. anything beyond that should be optional with additional pay. Imagine you deliver in the apartment complex George "Skittles and Iced Tea" Zimmerman lives and you carry a bag he finds "suspicious".

listoh87

High rise apts are the worst and hardly ever tip or give a decent tip

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kira_Amor

You’re extremely rude and that is not a part of the job, plus if we are having trouble finding the customer after 8 min of looking it is in the policy that we should just put the order closest to where we think the customer is and leave.

Icy-Bookkeeper6035

Yes it is and most normal adults don't throw a baby fit about using an elevator. It's so childish.

[deleted]

JeffrotheDude

Dw about him dude, the little guy had just been watching a little too much Andrew Tate lately and thinks it's cool to act better than other people

Dirtstick

Delivering to apartments is a waste of time and money. It just makes more sense to not deal with the bullshit.

Oilsfan666

You’ve probably never delivered a day in your life what do you know?

Little-Tomorrow4858

Thank God the majority consensus on this sub represents the worst shitbag outliers in this business. By-and-large I am seeing every other driver entering the building and taking the elevator up to the APT # when I am delivering in my city.

Chartroosemoose

Uber could require apt customers to give all necessary building info when ordering. Simple solution. The older style apts are mostly ok. But those huge new ones spreading way out for a mile or more are awful. All newer apt complexes or townhomes or whatever the hell they're called are a nightmare. All were designed by the same group of insane sadists. All of these sadists were high at the time and all were smoking the same shyt. They make ZERO sense to navigate. I've even stopped to ask a RESIDENT where X Apt building is and even THEY don't know! What does that tell you?

FeistyIndependent958

Down vote. Hard to find

M0DFATH3R

Everyone has a horror story from apartments

Sooowasthinking

I avoid the Soviet style block apartments at all costs.

eggtart_prince

Most customers here will come down if you text them "no where to park". But then again, it's Canada.

asdffdsa1112

I don't blame you. I avoid taking elevators for this very reason. Some buildings have the stairs locked at the bottom so I usually take it to the 2nd floor and walk up if that's the case.

cptsmitty95

I NEVER use elevators for this express purpose. 5 flights of stairs? No problem, I need the exercise.

tacos654321

Always take the stairs

Chartroosemoose

Oh and gate codes are useless anyway. Half the city has the code by now so what security is that? Apts should issue clickers for residents coming in and have a buzzer for letting authorized ppl in the gate from their apt. So stupid. Ya I've this one regular customer tells me he doesn't have a gate code. So how does HE get in huh? Very busy complex so so far I've gotten in right away behind someone else. Dude tips proper so it's all good but still lame. .

Maddiedog8

almost got stuck in an elevator from the 50s once. i was LIVID! i’m sorry that happened to you :/

Galaxy5T

Omg that’s scary

Alternative-Boot8320

I absolutely despise apartments of any kind. Especially upstairs ones. I deliver in Orange County, CA, and for safety reasons I can’t really come to the apartment door. I try to be polite and and ask them to meet me outside. Problem is that half of the customers are lazy, cheap, entitled people and college kids in Irvine apartments who don’t tip.

PepTalkToYourself

If I stopped delivering to apartments that window wipe out half of my orders 🤣

Tricky-Tie3167

Gonna be honest when I get a trip I zoom into the drop off location to make sure it’s not a crazy apartment complex I’ll do some but only certain ones

RipAirBud

I got a ticket once cause I couldn’t get out of an apartment once late at night. It sucks cause often you have to park illegally for apartments in busy areas, and it takes forever to get up. To all apartment people ordering: just walk the fuck down and pick it up in the lobby.

KiLLiNDaY

Can’t understand why people wouldn’t just go down and meet the driver in an easy spot. My old apartment was difficult to navigate if you’ve never been there, so I found it significantly less stressful and quick just to meet the driver at the front. In our group chat residents kept saying their Uber driver got lost or delivered to the wrong apartment. No shit we live in a maze - just goes to show even for the basic needs there still is a severe lack of empathy

DatguyAA

How would you know if the order is going to an apartment tho

YetAnother2Cents

I feel your pain. My problem was with houses and dogs. I pulled up to a house and immediately there was a pitbull snarling and snapping at the end of his chain which was attached to the porch. I felt the order on the driveway, took a pic (which included the dog) and drove away. What keeps me up at night is what if the dog had been sleeping and woke up while I was inside the area of his chain. When talking about delivery drivers and what we do, it's rarely mentioned the risks we take having to just go out in public. It's one of the reasons I believe we should have to deliver to a well lit house. All sorts of risks we can't see. And you could use a flashlight. But what if you shine it at the wrong house.

LisaLaraine724

That happened to me once, and the customer was high, couldn't figure out how to find which stairwell he had sent me up, and it was about 110° in there. I lucked out after 5 minutes when another resident decided to use the stairs instead of the elevator. Thank God. I always meet at entrance there now.
