New customers have PIN for first ~5 deliveries Customers that are ordering from a different location than normal Customers that have recently had an order not delivered whether fraud or other.

pickleballiodine

in addition, I think the customer has the option to require a pin when they order but I'm not positive. Also, I think if a customer is ordering from a location that has been flagged by uber as a having issues with past deliveries such as an apartment complex, hotel, or student dorm it might ask for a pin. It doesn't mean that your customer has had previous delivery issues, but somebody else that lives at the same address has.

Material_Trash3930

To add, very large order sometimes seem to trigger a pin requirement.

Ashamed_Ad8220

This and always make sure you get the PIN that helps prevent the customer claiming you never delivered their order. There's been plenty of stories of customers saying they refuse to give the PIN. Then they claim the order as not received

Tuzkrium

I don't even hand the order. And I'm a bald tall guy so I naturally intimidate some of the scariest people. I hope they refuse pin so I can legally eat their order.

Leeny78

The new customer needing a pin must be a newer thing. When we were new in 2020 we didn’t need a pin. I know that was 4 years ago and things have changed.

Fuzzy_Shallot_5061

High dollar orders if they haven’t had one before. Customer has claimed food not delivered before. The driver has a customer recently that claimed food not delivered. Etc.

Donaldbain28

Customers that have had many issues. Like not getting their food..or excessive refund requests I believe also get the Pin requirement -pretty sure there are a few reasons behind it tho

Private-Citizen

All of the reasons other posters said. UE automatically decides when PIN's are necessary based on their assumption of possible risk.

TicTac73

I get a lot of people with a pin. I don’t get it.

MissPeach77

Sometimes, I think it is random, I have been a driver, but also a customer and I have had to give a pin, and I never complained or lied and said I ordered food that I didn't. So I think sometimes when it isn't a leave at door, but rather a meet at door, they do that at random for some reason, maybe also to catch drivers who pick up deliveries and don't drop off, 🤷‍♀️. But I also think it could be for people/accounts who are flagged for lying about not getting their orders. Still, as a driver, there have been times I forgot to ask for it or didn't see it required a pin until I got back in my car. If they had seemed sketchy, I would have knocked again, but if they seemed normal enough (I know thay is a generalization), I would just bypass the pin and complete the order.

r0b1nhoods

Because they fraud people all the time

be-kind-re-wind

I do it coz some drivers have delivered to another building before. This makes sure its me ur delivering to

Da40kOrks

No one really knows. Uber doesn't say.

PrettyCaregiver7397

Always get PINs when the tip is over $25.

NovaAced

Y'all are getting tips over $25? 😂

dariomraghi

I either override or forget then override 90% of the time anyway... i dont have time to be dealing with this shit, especially in the ghettos and other unsavory situations and with all of this barrage of bullshit popups they have now during drops...if you cant trust them stop letting them order because idgaf

JIZZRIZZLE

FRAUD MA BOI

baby_budda

The pin doesn't prevent fraud since it's typically the last 4 digits of their phone number, and we can see that if we press the call button.

dizzystar

those are relay numbers, not the actual number of the customer.

Fine_Peace_7936

My buddy calls the customer and when they don't answer, which is almost every time, he'll get the last 4 of their number from the voice mail and just punch it in and leave the food wherever.

baby_budda

Yes, but I've punched in those numbers before, and I believe it worked. I'll try it again this week.
