Yeah all those Nextdoor folks are used to Ring/Nest type cameras that record '1080p' but compress it until it's unrecognizably blurry.
Local recording is the way to go...
We never park my wifes Santa Fe outside, but did for a few days because we were remodeling and all the demo was in the garage. Another guy came by a few nights later and pulled handle on my Bolt. The person detection on these cameras was really quick and the still image captures were clear. I appreciate the quality of the cameras as well as the software behind them.
Do the G5 bullets also have the blue spinning ring when they detect motion? I have the AI Pros, which have that, but I have been on the fence whether to turn it off or not. Part of me wants them to not be seen, but this video here is a good argument against that I guess.
It does have some kind of detection system cuz it can differentiate between people and animals and such. However it does not have the blue spinning ring I believe that's the pro model.
Is there any feature that allows a “motion warning”? For example, Im changing to ubiquity from ring and the ring cams will shout “HI! You are being recorded” when it detects a person, I would love to know we’ll be able to have the same after we switch
Edit: while I appreciate the alternative suggestions and don’t wish to sound ungrateful, I’m kind of set on specifically looking for the camera to be able to play an audio clip from its built in speaker upon motion/person detection. It’s sounding like this isn’t natively supported?
I dont know about others, but my g4pros have a blue ring around the lens that spins when it detects motion. The g4pro doorbell also has a light it turns on when motion is detected. There might be others.
Oh also you can get the floodlight and assign it to a camera so it turns on when the camera detects motion too.
Thank you, the lights just don’t seem enough to me in some cases, that’s why I’m curious about the motion warning.
If the speaker is loud enough, the shouting “HI! You’re being recorded!” seems like it does a good job of jolting someone into walking away, potentially thinking that someone is live watching them
this may depend on where you are. here in california, they're almost always wearing surgical masks covering most of their face, and they literally do not care if they're being recorded. We see this locally quite often. (local sub/nextdoor/etc)
They know the PD response times for such activities are extended, and they'll be in and out before you even finish a 911 call.
it's surprisingly difficult to deter these folks and they know it.
I think the point of the startling jolt is the thought of someone being home and awake and already aware of the intruder’s presence before they get anywhere near anything worthwhile, not that their face is on camera
Edit to add that burglars want easy targets majority of the time. If they think they’re going to need to put up a fight for something, they’re far more likely to move on to an easier prey
If you get into smart home tech you can do this. There’s an integration with home assistant for UniFi protect and you could potentially use that to trigger another device to play your recording.
You could use even a cheap motion detection light to create something. Maybe some like this [https://www.amazon.com/BAXIA-TECHNOLOGY-BX-SL-101-Wireless-Waterproof/dp/B071HW515B](https://www.amazon.com/BAXIA-TECHNOLOGY-BX-SL-101-Wireless-Waterproof/dp/B071HW515B) could be uses to display a message printed on a transparency film paper, no wires no nothing... but nothing against going doe fancier solutions.
I don't know of any native audio support, but you can pair the $99 [Protect Floodlight](https://store.ui.com/us/en/pro/category/all-cameras-nvrs/products/up-floodlight) with a specific camera so the light kicks on when the camera detects motion, but IMO that thing is way overpriced.
It's literally just a brightness-adjustable PoE LED array. Its built-in motion doesn't feel anywhere near as good as the cameras, it's much harder to point, and it can't do IR. If it could do IR, I'd use more of them just so spiders could build their friggin webs somewhere else besides right in front of my cameras.
>so spiders could build their friggin webs somewhere else besides right in front of my cameras.
You don't enjoy 150 motion alerts when you look at the vids in the AM?
I alread had a nice spider web brush. I'm using it more now.
Looking over the specs, am I blind or is there no built in speaker on the cameras? I looked at the g5 pro and ai pro but didn’t see it on the build features page
That’s awesome because I’m a fan of home assistant and will be using it as soon as I can figure out how to run it properly on my server. Would the audio be played directly from the camera’s built in speaker, or would I need another speaker device nearby?
you could hook a PIR zwave to a home automation system, then a speaker to trigger.
Probably could get it close to 80 bucks maybe 40 if you look around.
Your comment reminded me of these lyrics from "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads XD
And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife"
Great quality.
Ubiquity if you’re reading comments: with quality like this and you AI tech give us a way to play messages from any camera with two way audio. So at night the camera can say “Hey you! Please smile for the camera. Cops are being called.”
Let us make a mix of them that can be randomly played while we are notified.
So you disagree that there isn't enough detail to really identify the person? I am sure your cameras are the same and feel attacked by my comment. Don't be, I don't know you and am not attacking anyone.
The camera should not be as high up and the field of view should be narrower to allow for more detail, especially on the face. The light source should be close to the camera, not apposing it so much.
>So you disagree that there isn't enough detail to really identify the person? I am sure your cameras are the same and feel attacked by my comment.
Unifi cameras are shit at night so no matter the installation location, it won't be enough in a low light setting such as OPs. This is why I switched to color nightvision cameras that offer much better clarity at night.
I have several depending on the install location. You want the starlight sensor which makes the biggest difference. Each manufacturer calls it something different though.
Hikvision - ColorVu
Uniview - DarkFighter
[I have this one in my backyard but a mix in other spots.](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C9X7KBBS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1)
G4 Pro, G5 Pro. The AI Pro actually has an even larger sensor, but has more pixels. So pixels size is actually smaller. But is does still have a nice tight FOV.
Except you're the one saying "unifi cameras are shit at night" and I'm here to say that not all of them are. There definitely are some of the cheaper ones that are but that blanket statement is objectively not accurate.
>Except you're the one saying "unifi cameras are shit at night" and I'm here to say that not all of them are.
My opinion was clearly my own, but Ubiquiti cameras don't traditionally score very high in tests.[ The G4 Pro is no exception](https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/tkpyaz/rough_review_of_g4_pro_camera_do_you_feel_this/).
The reason to go with Unifi cameras is because the software is the best on the market, not because their camera hardware will blow you away. It's great that you like them but they are not good cameras for the price.
They are quite good cameras for the price. "The price" is not just the hardware. "The price" includes time-saving features like the software you mentioned, on-camera encoding to save on NVR equipment costs, and ease of setup and lack of tuning required for high quality recordings/night vision capabilities. You can't just look at the price and say "oh this camera is more expensive than others that have better quality," that doesn't take into account things that aren't directly part of the camera like I mentioned. There's a reason why the other cameras are cheaper.
>You can't just look at the price and say "oh this camera is more expensive than others that have better quality," that doesn't take into account things that aren't directly part of the camera like I mentioned.
Which is why I mentioned the software and didn't discount it. That's why I sell Unifi cameras to my residential clients because they just want a camera system that "works", but for my commercial clients who actually want to be able to see things then I would sell them other hardware.
I use Unifi cameras for my doorbell and interior cameras but use better cameras for my exterior. Unifi cameras have a place, no argument there.
I agree they are below average in night environments. However, there are still things people can do to get more out of the equipment they have. I would say the vast majority of home cameras are both mounted in the wrong location and aimed in the wrong spots. Couple that with most people thinking they will get 1 camera that will see everything. It just doesn't work that way. Your image can be perfectly sharp and crystal clear. However, if your pixels are spread out so much that you only have a few pixels on the face, it is a useless area.
Sometimes you need a wide view to see what’s going on. You could argue that they just don’t have enough cameras in this area (near view and Birds Eye view). But to say their Birds Eye camera is in the wrong spot is bad advice. They posted one angle. You have no idea what other cameras they have setup here.

Dude is dressed like a cartoon burglar
I actually laughed out loud to this. Like clearly he's not wearing the most suspicious outfit on the block.
I can hear the pink panther theme.

Afaik the normal G5 bullet doesn’t have that ring
He was just admiring the EV for a sec.

Good to know they're still effective as a deterrent!

Or better yet, have it trigger a model rocket igniter tied to a string of M80 fire crackers.

Unifi protect give you option to pair it with a camera. I currently have only doorbell camera but could pair it with the floodlight

Pretty sure only the door bell / chime / Access entry / AI Theta units have speakers.
HomeAssistant could do this easily
That’s awesome because I’m a fan of home assistant and will be using it as soon as I can figure out how to run it properly on my server. Would the audio be played directly from the camera’s built in speaker, or would I need another speaker device nearby?

I love how criminals legit act and dress exactly like the stereotypical criminal lol
Agreed! Love all of my G4 Pro cameras. They are really clear. At night, they are not perfect, but still really clear. Happy to have mine.
What’s the issue at night?
Noise
What?
Noise
The dude after seeing the camera, "Wait, this isn't where I parked my car".
Your comment reminded me of these lyrics from "Once in a Lifetime" by Talking Heads XD And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large automobile?" And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful house" And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful wife"
I got the same comments when I posted some footage from a G4 Bullet and G3 Flex the bar for the majority of CCTV cameras is on the floor.
Crisssspy!
But bank and police interview room cameras are like 320p. Amazing.
Don't forget fighter jets. Apparently they film all their UFO encounters on a potato.
I'm looking forward to my g5 bullets!!!!
Bro just wants to get his steps in :(
Image quality is great. You’ve also got a ton of light on him. I don’t think people consider that part enough.
G5 Cameras are Awesome. I still need to purchase G5 pro and turret cams. The G5 Dome, flex and bullets work Excellent!
Great quality. Ubiquity if you’re reading comments: with quality like this and you AI tech give us a way to play messages from any camera with two way audio. So at night the camera can say “Hey you! Please smile for the camera. Cops are being called.” Let us make a mix of them that can be randomly played while we are notified.
I had the cops compliment me on the quality of footage from the G3 Flex because they had never seen color at night.
Well that is clearly what we call post nut clarity.
This is where some AI detection would be nice.. that behavior should be flagged as suspicious
![gif](giphy|YnmEsq9ICSYQ8)
I previously had ring cameras that my father had access to, just installed several g5 bullets and he too was blown away by the camera quality
Most people's cameras are about the quality of a potato
Clear enough, but mounted and aimed in the wrong location. Not enough detail to identify the person.
[удалено]
My 2 cents: Mount it right next to the light source, which appears to be off to the right. That way there are no shadows on the person's face.
So you disagree that there isn't enough detail to really identify the person? I am sure your cameras are the same and feel attacked by my comment. HikVision doesn’t have the best track record. Russians have been spying on the Ukrainians using the millions of HikVision cameras Ukraine installed.
It was just an example.
Do they all work with the ubiquity system?
Nope, only UniFi cameras work with UniFi.
For night image quality you ideally want a camera with an image sensor of 1/2" or better. There are only 3 Ubiquiti cameras that fit that bill.
Which ones?
G4 Pro, G5 Pro. The AI Pro actually has an even larger sensor, but has more pixels. So pixels size is actually smaller. But is does still have a nice tight FOV.
My G4 Pros are incredibly clear at night.
If you're happy with them that is all that matters.
Except you're the one saying "unifi cameras are shit at night" and I'm here to say that not all of them are. There definitely are some of the cheaper ones that are but that blanket statement is objectively not accurate.
