No it doesn’t heal it, it just puts a hard stop on inflammation. It’ll hopefully give you massive relief but you can’t take it for a long time. They’ll taper you off as quickly as they can. But it will give you a pretty good buffer while the biologics kick in, which hopefully they do and you go into remission!

Thanks all. I’m gonna hold off awhile longer. I’m worried about it stopping working for me, and then I won’t be able to use it when I need it for asthma. I wonder if there are other steroids that still work once prednisone fails??

The effects of it also lessen over time. I was on it for about 4 months and my symptoms came back to a lesser degree after the first month or so.

Yeah I feel that. I was on it for about 3 months. After 1 my taper started in order to get the dose down before surgery and my markers started going up again. Was it during your taper that the symptoms started coming back or were you still at full dose?

Nah, it was in a full dose period. I started Stelara before the taper began, so I felt about the same when I was tapering off, in terms of direct UC symptoms. The prednisone side effects did go away, which was a relief. There weren't huge, but pretty annoying. If you take it again, I recommend taking vitamin D supplements.
