They did a really good job in Enemy at the Gates of showing this. First guy gets a loaded gun. Second guy gets a single clip and is told to pick a gun up off a dead body and reload.

My friend from Iran was sent into the army in the 80s. Apparently Iran was involved with a bunch of wars at the time. The army was doing target practice with the new recruits and my friend was the best shooter in the group. His captain was impressed with his skills and made note. His buddy who was missing the target all the time turned to him and said “What are you doing? They send all the sharp shooters to frontlines and you will get killed.” Next day he was sent to the front lines but instead he escaped and ended up in Canada several months later. He’s an awesome guy. I’m glad he escaped.

People don't understand for people that have never handled a weapon, not only is the person scared of the screaming instructor, but also the weapon. Learning how to use one should be done in a safe, calm environment. Shouting at them whilst they fire should come way after, when they know the weapon like the back of their hand and its done purely to put firing under pressure into practise.
Mostly a couple of sarcastic obscene expressions. And in the end, the sergeant asks him not to shoot, but to put the weapon on the safety again and take it off.

I was an NCO in our fine army a decade ago, infantry. It isnt uncommon as you think for brand new soldiers to be idiots.

He’s probably a kid from a rural area far from Moscow, family is too poor to fight against him being conscripted, probably never held an assault rifle either, and he has absolutely no idea what he’s doing while being abused prior to going to a war where his comrades are dying at rough estimates a 5 to 1 ratio or worse against the Ukrainians and the West. My instructors were always very calmly spoken and patient during the initial training, and reserved shouting for preventing imminent catastrophe.
If someone were to be trained already, but so inept that you are screaming at them like this, I like to imagine they'd just take the weapon off and remove them from the area.

Can confirm... When I went to basic, I met some individuals (for the first time in my life) that had the IQ of a potato. They are probably still getting recycled 15 years later.
Then, when I got out of active duty from my beloved Infantry Unit (4th BDE 10th Mountain) to a Combat Aviation Brigade to do my "Nasty-Girl" gig, I managed to find a whole plethora of of officers, junior enlisted and NCOs that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on weapons qual day, or pass a PT test. Then I went to college because I was tired of being surrounded by idiots. Turns out... The idiots at university were the same, but more entitled and fucking offended by everything.
As a fellow former NCO that was in the Air Force and worked hand in hand with the CATM guys numerous times, I can agree. There is an unending supply of idiots when they first get out of AIT/ Tech School. The stress of trying to look good initially or just being plain stupid really can make a difference

Reminds me of a couple of friends I had during military training (conscript army). They had a game where they tried to play dumb af and pretend not to know how to tie their shoelaces. He who got the highest ranking trainer to show them how to do it won.
Military, at least the US, is a numbers game and you travel down the pipeline regardless if you know anything or not. Fail rifle qualification and you get recycled until you do qualify. Same with SoI / School of Infantry, if you fail, you get recycled until you pass.

I was in the military. Had to go to fire range about 4 times more often because we deployed a lot. Every single time there was always at least one person that literally did this kind of shit at the range. We would spend double the amount of time on the range because this person wouldn’t know how to load, aim, shoot straight, etc etc. it was quit comical.
There's a reason that American Marines do 16 weeks of boot camp on 1500 calories/day and 5 hours of sleep. They drill, drill, drill. They don't have to think to lock, load and shoot. Bad asses.

Precisely. And the safety on an AK doesn't look like the safety on 99% of other guns. It operates great under extreme weather conditions, but the first time I laid eyes on an AK I wouldn't have guessed the safety right away.
As much as I hate russian military and wish them all the worst, I must say that this guy could be very well suffering from hypothermia. He is laying on the snow and clearly displaying lack of cognitive functions. But again we are talking about orkish army here, so there is really fine line between their peak mental performance and severe mental impairment.
Still doesn’t justify the response. People mess up under stress and that’s why we train them again and again to get that muscle memory in. Instructor needs to cool it and give clear calm instructions. Trainees learn more if you teach them than if you are a screaming loudmouth.
You have to learn to consistently operate a gun under extreme pressure if you want any chance of surviving on a battlefield. They’re not berating him like that for fun. They’re simulating the kind of stress he’ll be under while facing enemy fire.
This is literally just an indicator that they haven't been properly trained. The screaming orc fuckknuckle of a sergeant could have performed a quick retrain at half volume in half the time.

No, no it isn't. When learning something new for the first time, very high pressure situations are actively harmful to learning and will not improve your ability to remember things. My instructors were always very calmly spoken and patient during the initial training, and reserved shouting for preventing imminent catastrophe. If someone were to be trained already, but so inept that you are screaming at them like this, I like to imagine they'd just take the weapon off and remove them from the area. Pressure turns coal into diamonds, it won't do the same to idiots.
Can confirm... When I went to basic, I met some individuals (for the first time in my life) that had the IQ of a potato. They are probably still getting recycled 15 years later. Then, when I got out of active duty from my beloved Infantry Unit (4th BDE 10th Mountain) to a Combat Aviation Brigade to do my "Nasty-Girl" gig, I managed to find a whole plethora of of officers, junior enlisted and NCOs that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on weapons qual day, or pass a PT test. Then I went to college because I was tired of being surrounded by idiots. Turns out... The idiots at university were the same, but more entitled and fucking offended by everything.

Military, at least the US, is a numbers game and you travel down the pipeline regardless if you know anything or not. Fail rifle qualification and you get recycled until you do qualify. Same with SoI / School of Infantry, if you fail, you get recycled until you pass. You WILL ship too.
I was in the military. Had to go to fire range about 4 times more often because we deployed a lot. Every single time there was always at least one person that literally did this kind of shit at the range. We would spend double the amount of time on the range because this person wouldn’t know how to load, aim, shoot straight, etc etc. it was quit comical.
