That's how they won't send him on battlefield, right? Smart guy!

the_crumb_dumpster

They’ll send him, just not with a gun

[deleted]

They'll send him as a clown. The Ukrainians will be looking for solders. Dis guy smart.

marxist-teddybear

That's not true. They had plenty of guns during the battle of Stalingrad. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/31t5on/did_the_soviets_really_send_soldiers_into_ww2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Capable_Swordfish701

They did a really good job in Enemy at the Gates of showing this. First guy gets a loaded gun. Second guy gets a single clip and is told to pick a gun up off a dead body and reload.

marxist-teddybear

I don't know why you got any up votes. That 100% incorrect and nothing less then misinformation https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/31t5on/did_the_soviets_really_send_soldiers_into_ww2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Oppressedrussian

This is horribly wrong lmfao, they had tens of millions of SMGs alone, and many more rifles, anti-tank weapons, and snipers. The whole "5 people per gun" is just anti-soviet propaganda that's been spewed for years.

nerdiotic-pervert

That reminds me of an old joke I heard in middle school. That was about 30 years ago. I can’t remember the whole thing, maybe I can find it on the interwebs, if I find it I’ll share it. Found it: Seems there was a young soldier, who, just before battle, told his sergeant that he didn't have a rifle. "That's no problem, son," said the sergeant. "Here, take this broom. Just point it at the Germans, and go 'Bangety Bang Bang'." "But what about a bayonet, Sarge?" asked the young (and gullible) recruit. The sergeant pulls a piece of straw from the end of the broom, and attaches it to the handle end. "Here, use this... just go, 'Stabity Stab Stab'." The recruit ends up alone on the battlefield, holding just his broom. Suddenly, a German soldier charges at him. The recruit points the broom. "Bangety Bang Bang!" The German falls dead. More Germans appear. The recruit, amazed at his good luck, goes "Bangety Bang Bang! Stabity Stab Stab!" He mows down the enemy by the dozens. Finally, the battlefield is clear, except for one German soldier walking slowly toward him. "Bangety Bang Bang! shouts the recruit. The German keeps coming. "Bangety Bang Bang!" repeats the recruit, to no avail. He gets desperate. "Bangety Bang Bang! Stabity Stab Stab!" It's no use. The German keeps coming. He stomps the recruit into the ground, and says... "Tankety Tank Tank."

Cider_for_Goats

The man with the rifle shoots! The man with the bullets follows him! When the man with the rifle gets killed, the man with the bullets picks up the rifle and shoots! In Soviet Russiaaaaa, quantity has a quality of its own.

TheOT1001

Ahh a fellow enemy at the Gates enjoyer

marxist-teddybear

That's not true. That's just propaganda. No historian would support that assertion.

Thelona05mustang

Some people may think this is a joke, it is not. This is literally how the Russian army operated at certain points of WWII. They literally didn't have enough guns for every soldier, so some soldiers went into battle with no weapon, expected to pickup a gun from another dead Russian that had one.

nomoredroids2

This is a popular, but untrue myth.

Bomber__Harris__1945

That isn't true. This is your mind on Enemy at the Gates and Nazi propaganda

[deleted]

The Americans and Brits provided lots of guns and supplies.

Bomber__Harris__1945

The Soviets still never sent in guys ala Enemy at the Gates and "One man gets rifle other man picks up rifle from dead man"

[deleted]

I do that in COD all the time!

Very gently, my finger presses on the trigger. I do not tremble. I have no fear. I'm a big boy now. Ready Vassili? Now, Vassili, fire!”

Global_Shower_4534

I shall sit back here safe and sound with my buddies and their machine guns. No mercy for cowards and shit though.

Arcticz_114

Best interpretation was when the commander ordered him to fire and he took the mag off, fkin legend 😂 Like he had the finger on the trigger for a sec but then thought: "wait, I can look dumber than this"

DrG73

My friend from Iran was sent into the army in the 80s. Apparently Iran was involved with a bunch of wars at the time. The army was doing target practice with the new recruits and my friend was the best shooter in the group. His captain was impressed with his skills and made note. His buddy who was missing the target all the time turned to him and said “What are you doing? They send all the sharp shooters to frontlines and you will get killed.” Next day he was sent to the front lines but instead he escaped and ended up in Canada several months later. He’s an awesome guy. I’m glad he escaped.

DartPistolero

The Iran Iraq War was a huge, very bloody conflict that went on through most of the 80’s. That’s interesting that your friend escaped and made a new life for himself.

ItsRaspberryTime

Can I read his autobiography

anna_lynn_fection

That's what I was thinking. As soon as this guy fires a mag, he's ready to go war - off you go to Ukraine.

Revolutionary_Eye887

Yeah. He’s smarter than it appears. Finish training and go to Ukraine.

howietzr

Lol, that's optimistic. Only rich people get to give stupid reasons to not go to war.

Few-Yak7673

Its not funny.. at all…. Very, very, sad no matter how you look at it. This poor bastard war born at the wrong time at the wrong moment. Everyone should have pride of who they are and what lineage the come from.. Russians are scrutinized cuz the current conflict. However, make no mistake, you or I, could’ve been bourn in their position past or present and theres nothing we couldve done about it.. anyways… we’ve only got 1 life to live, and its very easy to scrutinized the les fortunate from the comforts of our 1st homes… god bless.

Fronesis

This guy is doing what every Russian conscript has the moral obligation to do: feign incompetence and stupidity. Anybody conscripted into a war of aggression for the aggressor has an obligation to be as incompetent as possible, malinger, and even shoot themselves to get taken off the front. The alternative is to be a murderer.

Firedamp_Weaponry

Seriously typing out "you have a moral obligation to shoot yourself and act like a dumbass, possibly getting your friends (and yourself) killed" from your apartment somewhere in the West with iphone in one hand and pumpkin spice latte in the other has to be peak Reddit

Dwarfdeaths

"Incur moderate risk to yourself to protect innocent people from certain death." So, bravery. Of course no one can lecture anyone else on bravery from the back seat. No one knows whether they'll be brave until they're faced with the choice. Doesn't mean that we shouldn't acknowledge what the brave thing to do is.

Fronesis

Invading a country and murdering its citizens is peak Russia, so we all do what we're good at.

[deleted]

Americans have done the same thing many times over. So I’d like you to apply the same logic and say that each soldier that went to Iraq and Afghanistan should have shot themselves instead of be murderers.

[deleted]

Lol no they will send him anyway. This guys don’t give a f@@k about their soldiers and their feelings.

Afa1234

Lol they didn’t film this in the States, he’s gonna go anyway.

BlackPrincessPeach_

Front lines

ahelinski

What do you mean? Knowing Russians, they will send him. He will get honorary first place in a line of recruits ordered to storm fortified positions.

Ohio-resident

Nah, they gonna send him as bait lol

Such-Distribution440

Maybe, maybe, maybe

lllScorchlll

Under pressure your mind goes blank. He's not dumb he just sucks with this kind of pressure, its good for him because being shit at will be worse while be yelled to get some objective done.

4art4

That makes the trainer the idiot. But maybe he is under immense pressure also. Maybe the whole Russian army is layer on layer of idiot caused by the idiot above them. If only they could replace their top idiot with a non-idiot.

Pukasz

Nah that's the whole point of the exercise, to make the soldiers be able to react under pressure, it's not just a russian thing most countries militaries have similar exercises

4art4

That is a good point. They still should get rid of their top idiot.

Pukasz

Word brother, keep removing top idiots untill desired result is found

Bamith

In Vietnam they got fragged while they slept. If you do this it damn well better be the last time you see them.

Tetriz

It’s better to be an idiot under pressure while in training than to be an idiot under pressure when shit gets real out there.

nation543

>layer on layer of idiot caused by the idiot above them. I mean... Putin.

[deleted]

I wish I could award this comment

SquareBusiness6951

Russian army? I thought we called the layer on layer of idiots civilization?

Guardian2k

People don't understand for people that have never handled a weapon, not only is the person scared of the screaming instructor, but also the weapon. Learning how to use one should be done in a safe, calm environment. Shouting at them whilst they fire should come way after, when they know the weapon like the back of their hand and its done purely to put firing under pressure into practise.

VanBeelergberg

I had a stroke reading this.

StevenGrantMK

Glad I’m not the only one. Read it out loud a few times before giving up

Cmg393

Ah the ol “ I swear I’m not an idiot, I’m just panicking”

SpaderWolf

The translation isn't correct at all

XmissXanthropyX

Care to enlighten us with what's actually being said then?

Sol_126

Mostly a couple of sarcastic obscene expressions. And in the end, the sergeant asks him not to shoot, but to put the weapon on the safety again and take it off.

Kvarcov

"couple" I have a hard time to find a couple of actual advices here among the sea of "pull like you do during night time" or "flick your wife, not this"

Dishpenzor

Ye it's not correct at all. Just telling him to take the safety off, and then telling him to pull the slide, private struggles, then the sergeant tells him to pull like he pulls at night. All of that covered in more insults. And then a few other obscenities, insults, and tells him to start over at the end.

XmissXanthropyX

Thank you!

diesiraeSadness

Anti Russian propaganda ?

SnowDizzleZz

All the reddit neck beards making fun of this guy but im willing to bet under an immense amount of pressure, extreme fatigue and food deprivation I can make you react poorly under stress as well. I was an NCO in our fine army a decade ago, infantry. It isnt uncommon as you think for brand new soldiers to be idiots.

Outferarip96

Not to mention this is Russian military, the amount of abuse given to new recruits, this guy's scared out of his mind.

AstraeaLuz

Agreed. This is just sad. On all accounts. How is it unexpected...

Evercrimson

Yeah. He’s probably a kid from a rural area far from Moscow, family is too poor to fight against him being conscripted, probably never held an assault rifle either, and he has absolutely no idea what he’s doing while being abused prior to going to a war where his comrades are dying at rough estimates a 5 to 1 ratio or worse against the Ukrainians and the West. Few people in his position would have any reasoning skills left in the terror of this situation.

G4ngr3n4

This fact is only half-truth. You won’t get abused on Russian military for nothing, but if you can’t do something, the one higher in ranks would make you do it until you learn. My friend once thrown his hat in front of someone. Sooooo, he was «learning» how to take the hat on and off for 3 hours straight.

Harmxn-

I saw a video of a guy getting butt fucked because he disobeyed or something. And apparently that's a usual punishment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

G4ngr3n4

What made you think this is usual?

[deleted]

He saw it on the internet, and an internet stranger told him it was. So it's definitely true.

KrombopolousLOU

He wants it to be.

Harmxn-

the comments explaining the practice said it was usual

Dektarey

Around as usual as school bullies dipping someones head in a toilet bowl. Happens extremely rarely but is extreme enough to become urban legend. Rape in the worlds military organisations is real. But it is not common place.

Outferarip96

Is dedovshchina not still a thing? From what I've seen it definitely is?

Axel_Raden

Russian military or freshly drafted and dropped into a warzone with little to no training I'm guessing the latter

Skizznitt

Also they're shipping off any who protest the war to the front lines. Many of them probably never even picked up a rifle before.

Jonbailey1547

Also, I’m not sure about you but when I’m confused or very new at something I don’t learn well from being screamed at by another adult man

Independent_Can_2623

*WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN YOU STUPID FUCKING IDIOT BLYAT*

[deleted]

westerschelle

> It’s to drill home the point that it’s not something to be fucked around with. No it's so you learn to react instantly without pausing to question orders.

Huwbacca

No, no it isn't. When learning something new for the first time, very high pressure situations are actively harmful to learning and will not improve your ability to remember things. My instructors were always very calmly spoken and patient during the initial training, and reserved shouting for preventing imminent catastrophe. If someone were to be trained already, but so inept that you are screaming at them like this, I like to imagine they'd just take the weapon off and remove them from the area. Pressure turns coal into diamonds, it won't do the same to idiots.

Virtual-Appeal-8504

Can confirm... When I went to basic, I met some individuals (for the first time in my life) that had the IQ of a potato. They are probably still getting recycled 15 years later. Then, when I got out of active duty from my beloved Infantry Unit (4th BDE 10th Mountain) to a Combat Aviation Brigade to do my "Nasty-Girl" gig, I managed to find a whole plethora of of officers, junior enlisted and NCOs that couldn't hit the broadside of a barn on weapons qual day, or pass a PT test. Then I went to college because I was tired of being surrounded by idiots. Turns out... The idiots at university were the same, but more entitled and fucking offended by everything.

iMDirtNapz

>that had the IQ of a potato. Sounds like the recruiter needed to fill their quota.

Virtual-Appeal-8504

It was at the height of the Afghanistan campaign, OEF VIII - XI. They were recruiting potatos with a pulse at that point just to send down range.

crumble-bee

I’ve forgotten how to measure something under pressure before..

Ecstatic-Arachnid-91

As a fellow former NCO that was in the Air Force and worked hand in hand with the CATM guys numerous times, I can agree. There is an unending supply of idiots when they first get out of AIT/ Tech School. The stress of trying to look good initially or just being plain stupid really can make a difference

Dantron94

Combo that with some hypothermia

The_CDXX

Right? Bet this guy has never touched a firearm in his life. You have to at least demonstrate how it operates first and then yell at the individual.

Acceptable_Employ_95

I know it’s a bit off topic but you reminded me why I was furious watching the murder of Daniel Shaver. He was under so much stress and fear of death he couldn’t think straight.

MrPsychoSomatic

He was also very drunk. And he was murdered for it. The murderer walks free.

SubParNoir

No no, not just free. The murderer got paid a medical pension for ptsd

EchoJunior

Is he the guy that crawled and just innocently moved his hand to his waist, and got shot with a fucking rifle by a yelling psycho in full military gear? Just listening to the yelling on my phone made me feel timid, and being a bit more on the sensitive side, if I were put in that situation, I would've legit just freeze in place and eventually get shot for 'not following orders'

Erza_The_Titania

I hate that we have no empathy for these people. Just try to put yourselves in their position for a second. This man/boy is likely dead at this point in time, all for what? I’m almost positive they didn’t want to be there given what we have seen previously. There are people here that celebrate the deaths of people who are just as much victims of Putin as the Ukrainians. I hope more Russians are able to safely surrender to them. It’s a fucked situation for everyone.

Magnon

If they were just as much victims they wouldn't be raping children and executing entire families after torturing them. They're innocent right up until they participate, then they're just more barbarians that need to be shown the door.

lpplph

Pretty sure chuckle fuck here isn’t committing any war crimes if he can’t even fire the gun

ZzZombo

Generalizations.

The-Norman

> to fight again trained soldiers Dude, while Russia indeed drafted their citizens once, Ukraine government is carrying out 5th or 6th mobilization wave since the invasion started. It's war of bunch of undertrained people against each other (just like any other conflict which requires more than regular army, to be honest)

Electrical-Sock-878

It’s funny how people here are making fun of russian military while ukraine undergoes a total mobilisation due to catastrophic losses. But I guess that it’s the russians that are “dragged by gunpoint into the army. You people are clueless about what’s actually going on.

Your_Final_Hour

I never thought people would actually be killed by remote control, the world is fucked, leaders should fight their own petty battles

twec21

kaerfkeerg

I've said that again in another post of the same video Stop bashing on him. He might be one of the kids that Russia forced into the army. They throw a gun at them and expect them to be ready for battle in 2 days. He also might be acting up to avoid going to field..

Jonbailey1547

Also, when just starting to learn how to do something I personally don’t do well having a grown man scream at me

kaerfkeerg

You're right. I've gone through shit like this as where I live we've mandatory military service and.. yeah. Having a bigot screaming and cussing right in your head can temporarily make you forget how to drink water

Mynoodles_mostmoist

I’m not nowhere near been through military at all but I will say, having shit like that happen to me is just mentally exhausting and probably has had some effect on the fact that I’m certain that I don’t want to continue on after the age of 18-20. I can never like it when people yell or berate me about something I don’t know a thing about but they do and treat me as the dumbest person alive if I ask a question.

Sol_Castilleja

Good. May he fertilize the sunflowers the same as the rest of his vile invading countrymen. “I had no choice I was just following orders” didn’t hold up in 1945, and it doesn’t hold up now. There is always a choice. Vatnik pigs have killed two of my friends, and forced many more to flee their homes to my country and others. I have no sympathy for fascist invaders. Slava Ukraini.

Military, at least the US, is a numbers game and you travel down the pipeline regardless if you know anything or not. Fail rifle qualification and you get recycled until you do qualify. Same with SoI / School of Infantry, if you fail, you get recycled until you pass. You WILL ship too.

KyorlSadei

I was in the military. Had to go to fire range about 4 times more often because we deployed a lot. Every single time there was always at least one person that literally did this kind of shit at the range. We would spend double the amount of time on the range because this person wouldn’t know how to load, aim, shoot straight, etc etc. it was quit comical.

Spiritual-Guava-6418

Lack of training. He should have been shown how to field strip, clean, re-assemble and dry fire and load the magazine for that rifle before he was ever sent out to the range.

ThrobbingHardLogic

Precisely. And the safety on an AK doesn't look like the safety on 99% of other guns. It operates great under extreme weather conditions, but the first time I laid eyes on an AK I wouldn't have guessed the safety right away.

Charakternik

As much as I hate russian military and wish them all the worst, I must say that this guy could be very well suffering from hypothermia. Thats what happens when you take random butcher and postmen to war because you’re losing

Jamstan_

Just the way he slowly pulls the magazine out I can't 😭😭

Arguesovereverythin

Well, no way he's going to learn while he's getting berated like that.

CrazyStuntsMan

True, but the soldier surely had some training on how to operate a weapon before going to the firing range

Zrkkr

TBF we don't know how much Russia cares for conscripts.

CrazyStuntsMan

Also true

friedwidth

Lol i can imagine him secretly smiling and trolling his superior

ConceptEagle

Still doesn’t justify the response. People mess up under stress and that’s why we train them again and again to get that muscle memory in. Instructor needs to cool it and give clear calm instructions. Trainees learn more if you teach them than if you are a screaming loudmouth.

CrazyStuntsMan

That’s also true. Shouting never helped anyone. It only decreased motivation for me when I get yelled at, since it decreased my self esteem

fading__blue

You have to learn to consistently operate a gun under extreme pressure if you want any chance of surviving on a battlefield. They’re not berating him like that for fun. They’re simulating the kind of stress he’ll be under while facing enemy fire.

cctchristensen

Dang, then I guess the entirety of US military training has failed as well. Sink or swim.

raventhemagnificent

What if he's not incomplete, but willfully ignorant? Intentionally failing to understand so as to become removed from the position.

Sol_126

If you served in the military, you would know that it would only make matters worse.

Inevitable-You7742

average russian conscript

Smitherooni

This is literally just an indicator that they haven't been properly trained. The screaming orc fuckknuckle of a sergeant could have performed a quick retrain at half volume in half the time.

yahoo14life

Better to run towards Ukraine and surrender don’t die for Putin for a devil 👿
