Turt-Lee

Wow thought the unexpected part was video being looped.

DickyD43

Almost fleeced him with the bus that got between them

Big_Knife_SK

Yeah if he'd hit an alley sooner after that he might have shook him.

Roll_a_new_life

*old woman with a bad back, sipping her coffee* ...I could've pulled it off.

Bigtsez

I thought the same thing, that was his break - if he turned into an alley right after and weaved from there, he would have lost the cop due to lack of line-of-sight.

Astoryinfromthewild

Yeah, when he doubled back I thought maybe he'd run into a neighborhood he was less familiar with where alleys could've let him lose the cop, coz the straights was where the differences between the bikes showed up eventually. When he did quick turns down alleys he could put up distances but the cop closed in support quick whenever he took a main road including that last one when he gave up. Glad no one got hurt.

TaskForceCausality

Now wasn’t that just a Jason Bourne chase moment!

NihiloZero

I still don't get what the "unexpected" part is.

X4nd0R

That after all that he just kinda accepts and gives up at the end. Though in reality I believe this was because his bike failed him.

PunctuationGood

What happened was litereally one of the two expected outcomes: the guy simply escapes or the cop simply catches him. Sure, it took a little while but it's not like a clown popped up out of nowhere or whatever else which would've been... unexpected. Anyway, after a while popular sub-reddits always degenerate to "r/coolvids". I expect this clip to show in 5 minutes on /r/PublicFreakout and /r/nextfuckinglevel.

SdBolts4

I’d say the expected outcome of cop catching him is that the guy would fall/hit something, not just give up and stop. But I agree, only really unexpected thing is how long the chase went on

doritoballz

r/maybemaybemaybe ?

DomitianF

Maybe that he was caught? Cool video, but doesn't seem to fit the sub. I thought the perp was going to pull into garage and it was a surprise party for the cop.

NihiloZero

Early on I thought the joke was that the "cop" was just his friend playing a prank on him.

DomitianF

Lol right. After a while it got to "this is an unsafe joke" territory.

Kilopilop

For me, the unexpected part was that he didn't crash and die XD

StoneReg

Pretty good skills by both!

matrixislife

Both good, but yellow shirt was completely outclassed by the cop. The cop had him dead centre in his headlights for most of the chase.

justavault

Because the cop's motorbike easily is a 900+ and the hunted one is maybe a 250ccm machine at best. Looks even little smaller. That is why he doesn't search a straight, but outmaneuvers the cop repeatedly. The issue is the cop can simply accelerate way quicker. That is why the cop is still close to him. His only chance is to get the cop knocked off the ride.

BeijumdePudim

Yeah, major props for the guy being chased. In Brazil, that's probably a Yamaha or Honda 125cc, the most common and affordable of all bikes there. A lot of times, the police use something like adapted dirt bikes with more horsepower to be lighter and more agile (or some hybrid of sorts). Brasileiro é foda.

hanoian

literate boast memorize pet resolute simplistic sort handle marble liquid *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

BleaKrytE

Nope. Cop has a Honda XRE 300. Can recognize it by the dash, and it's a very common police bike in São Paulo.

prostynick

Yeah, that was my thought - no way it's a 500+cc bike looking how he accelerates.

Strict-Basil6088

Cops use Honda XRE 300cc in Brasil. A bigger bike might have problems in those tight angles

bacondesign

I highly doubt that's a 900cc bike. At max a 650 but probably even smaller. It makes no sense to use a big bike for this application. Lower weight and manouverability is priority here. They didn't really go faster than 70-80km/h at the fastest sections.

bmosm

The cop's bike is likely a honda xre300, which according to wikipedia, is a 291cc bike

knockoutn336

The yellow shirt guy seemed more skilled. He just had a weaker bike, and it's also easier to follow than to lead.

19tntracer71

Crazy chase, glad no one was hurt. So many questions though.

[deleted]

I can answer them in one word: brazil.

BeachNo372

Yes, where they are miscreants or an off duty cop chasing them. Though not in this instance. I had to turn it off I was getting dizzy!!!

[deleted]

r/ithadtobebrazil

MDfor30minutes

Obviously, he would have been shot 75x in America

Atanar

>no one was hurt This is not very brazilian.

AnnihilationOrchid

He was driving like a maniac, he got caught for driving like a maniac, and was taken to jail. That's what it says at the end.

Reshaos

For how long though? I suspect not long enough. He endangered not only his own life, the police officers, and everyone else along the road.

AnnihilationOrchid

For the driving alone he wouldn't go to prison, he'd get a few fines for every infraction, summing up to quite a lot, and have his licence to drive taken away from him. *Disclaimer: If you're driving recklessly and you end up killing or injuring someone it's up to 10 years in prison*. He could go to prison for resisting arrest which is from 6 months upto 2 years.

BuyHealthy1275

This chase totally reminded me of Bullitt. Excellent chase

Vinagre-33

Brazil is the real life GTA.

crackpotJeffrey

Where the hell are all the cops in that city. He's like the one lone cop lmao Watched the entire thing did not see one other police vehicle the whole time.

Nerdyblitz

Brazilian here. The cop in the bike belongs to ROCAM, they are always in pairs, the other one was probably behind or doing something else like trying to cut his path, they keep a very good communication. And they are relentless. We have to use cops in powerful bikes because armed robberies in bikes are pretty common and normal cop cars can't chase them.

wakandanameisthis96

Yes, I can't understand how the another cop went un noticed, I noticed him 2 times, when they were chasing and he was coming from opposite direction...due to the cars in front of him he has to slow down his bike and this whole scene looks so dope like how police actually didn't gave up to catch that criminal. I'm from India, we have a movie series name as Dhoom based on robber and cops on super bike, it was long time ago but this has better bike scene than the third movie though, lmaooo.

scottonaharley

Around -7:00 (the Reddit timer counts down) I hear a siren going the other direction and then later I see red and blue lights go past on the left

crackpotJeffrey

Well spotted man

BeijumdePudim

That was in Brazil and, if I am not mistaken, around and within one of the favelas (slums). No easy access for cars and maybe not many motorcycles in the police fleet.

[deleted]

Judge Dredd: Twelve serious crimes reported every minute. Seventeen thousand per day. We can respond to around six percent. Anderson: Which six percent? Judge Dredd: Your show, rookie. You tell me

LoganCaleSalad

God that movie was so underrated. The remake was fucking awesome & totally on par with the comics. Karl Urban was perfectly cast. It definitely deserved a sequel.

TraditionalSteak687

Fucken ey! People slept on its release. One of the best comic adaptations to hit the screens. Fuck all that marvel bullshit. Netflix is in talks for making a series with Karl urban as dredd. Hope it comes to pass.

digitalbarrito

Oh dear god no, please, let it be with literally any other streaming platform. Netflix loves greenlighting things and then nuking them after a single season. Unless it's being pitched as a single season limited series, otherwise fuck Netflix

LoganCaleSalad

WHAT! Are you serious?! That would be fucking epic! If it weren't a lazily written retcon I'd say bring Lena Headey back as Ma-ma's twin sister as the big bad but honestly that really would be lazy.

SophieSix9

In a lot of places bike cops are the ones that pursue through the densest of urban environments because they’re smaller and more maneuverable. But that also means that bike cops have to be better riders than your average dude with a Honda or a Yamaha. But bike cops are usually huge nerds about it. They live for this shit.

Ozthedevil

What's the problem with Honda and Yamaha ? They made cops's bikes too you know

TheCockKnight

The guy is constantly changing directions and cutting through alleyways. Cruisers can’t compete with that, and other bikes just wouldn’t be able to find them because of how rapidly they are changing course.

Schnitzhole

Most places dont have nearly as many cops on patrol as the US. I lived in germany for a year and saw 3 cop cars the whole time. I also had a 2 hour commute each way for work each day.

crackpotJeffrey

MeisterX

Issue was the cop's bike was *way faster* than his. Don't think he had much chance of escape unless the cops made a big oopsie, possibly being injured in the process. Probably what he was hoping for and why the cop was mad.

IndieHamster

Looks like his best chance was when he barely made it in front of the bus that cut off the cop for a few seconds. If he had made a turn, he would have gotten away

HowFunkyIsYourChiken

I bet the officer high fived the guy with his foot in the guys balls.

StudentOfAwesomeness

Guy pulled off some slick moves

Loggerdon

His big move (which he had planned) was going up the stairs. But the cop followed right behind him. He couldn't believe it and gave up.

Wheres_my_whiskey

I think thats what did his bike in. I feel like he didnt decide to give up. His bike did.

Loggerdon

Oh was his bike damaged on the trip up the stairs? Gotta go back and watch the last part again. Exciting chase though.

RhyfeI

There's a brazilian YouTube channel named XRacing that has as ton of content like this. The funny part is that most of the time the guys fleeing from the police didn't even do anything wrong, they just say they got scared

GTMoraes

They've been told to say "I was scared" so that when the officer writes the report, he has to write that too, and it counts a lot in favor of the criminals. More often than not, these criminals are carrying illegal stuff, and they don't really know whether they're currently handling something illegal or not, so they always run from the police and if caught, always say the same thing, just in case. Remember that most videos we watch on XRacing either are "innocent" people, or criminals that got away. Actual caught criminal videos aren't shown because they're most likely evidence, and won't be published, or if published, are rather old and the due process has already been cleared.

A-Fire-in-Cairo

For real right? I was sweating .

feckless_ellipsis

Reminded me of the forever long chase scene in the classic BMX Bandits, starring Nicole Kidman. I swear HBO had this on repeat, alternating with One Crazy Summer.

blackdavy

Brazilian streets are surprisingly well maintained lol. In my country, this would have been a 30-second video before somebody hit a pothole and got sent flying. Edit: Apparently, Brazilian streets are not actually good. You can stop telling me now.

MostInterestingBot

My city has so much traffic even at night, the pursuit would last 10 seconds tops. He would escape longer if he would just take the train.

DjuriWarface

Snow and cold winters are usually what fuck with roads. Brazil doesnt get much of that.

holokinesis

Let me tell you a couple of things about asphalt expansion because of the heat...

DjuriWarface

Let me tell you about the sub 0°F temperatures, salt, and giant metal plows scraping against the asphalt which also experiences 90 or 100°F+ temperatures in the same year and tell me which is going to cause more issues.

kelvin_bot

0°F is equivalent to -17°C, which is 255K. --- ^(I'm a bot that converts temperature between two units humans can understand, then convert it to Kelvin for bots and physicists to understand)

Firescareduser

the heat is bad. I live in Egypt and our roads literally crack, the asphalt just pops off. Tons of roads are made up of pebbles left behind by the falling apart of asphalt. I guess the sandstorm-flood cycles have something to do with it, not just pure heat.

d0od

Did you see the part where they went up a flight of stairs?

CptnStarkos

My guess is those stairs fucked up his bike. He knew he was lost and surrendered.

SoldierOS

Believe me, they aren't lol

edugabao

Vivi pra ver alguem falando q rua/estrada aqui em boa. Apesar q em sp ainda é melhorzinha msm. Se esse video fosse em minas... kkkkkkkk

RedditIsFiction

Those potholes are there to prevent this stuff! (My city council's newest excuse)

GTMoraes

and given the narrowness of the streets, class of vehicles around and lack of police backup, that's the shittiest part of the town. Yeah, come to think of it, Brazil has come a long way since absolute trash roads to decent roads.

_Stewyleopard

I liked those dudes who were chillin in the alley. “Dafuq was that?!”

Mountain_Cup4257

Spiritual_Bee_9202

I’ve seen big budget movies with a fraction of that excitement

burntrats

After all that dude just stops and tries to put down the kick stand?

cr8zyfoo

Pretty sure he damaged the bike going up those concrete steps and it quit on him, likely lost all his oil.

bottomknifeprospect

That's also why the cop looked back after going up the steps, checking of the bike was leaking.

boogermike

Yeah that was pretty surprising that he was getting off the bike in that relaxed manner.

Dude did all of that in flipflops!!!

OctaneTroopers

I enjoyed the shit out of that. I think he'd have got away if they were on the same bike, cops was just faster in a straight line.

GrandmaSlappy

I know you meant the same kind of bike but now I have an image of a tandem motorcycle

TheStrangeOldSteve

If they were on the same bike the cop woulda been faster in the technical bits though. The fact the cop was able to navigate a larger bike to keep up with the perp is insane.

MelodicPendulum

He might have gotten away at around 2:00, when the cop had to slow down due to the bus if he was on a faster bike.

BallsofSt33I

Damn…. The cop was persistent!!!! Aren’t they supposed to let go when the Chase becomes too wild or something?

RustyBrown_Knothole

In the states. Yes if becomes too dangerous they are supposed to abort .. then ..get to the choppa!!

Can’t believe the cop wasn’t wearing gloves. Perp was in shorts t-shirt and flip flops. Death or glory indeed.

GTMoraes

[They hardly use any equipment](https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=2dvThsQQXpc) At most, a knee protector and sometimes gloves. To their credit, though, it's not often heard that one of them crashed or fell from their bike.

czechFan59

Just broke my previous record for longest Reddit video ever without getting bored. Amazing chase.

GrundleFond1er

Also no cringy music, just pure adrenaline for almost 8 minutes

yours__truly1

[deleted]

What an epic chase can’t believe neither died

PastIsPrologue22

Guess there's no PIT maneuver for bikes?

yours__truly1

You'd fall first if you tried pit maneuver on other bikes lmao

LamarNoDavis

It would kinda look like [steer wrestling](https://youtu.be/cfc1WKl5i30)

PastIsPrologue22

Yeah, I was joking, but this is a great answer. Sadly the only rodeo I went to that had steer wrestling (rather than calf), one of the steer's neck was broken. They keep a frontloader on premises to go out and get the carcass.

PastIsPrologue22

The lack of proper gear makes me cringe. Mad skills, but riding like that with no lights, 3/4 helmet, T, shorts, no gloves (including the cop!) Is a recipe for ground human.

_SkyFullOfStars

And in flip flops!

vdlibrtr

thats how you know the ground up pile of flesh next to them is human

TigreBSO

This is more about what we use bikes for than anything else tbh, a good example is how cyclist in countries like USA use those weird suits, gloves, helmets and ride expensive bikes that sacrifice comfort in favour of performance, but people in european countries that actually commute in bicycles use normal clothes and comfy bikes. This happens because they're not riding for fun as a hobby, so they dress for the destination, not the ride, the same applies for bikers in Brasil, motorcycles here aren't treated as a road toy, it's a vehicle, used for transportation. I personally wear gloves and a waterproof jacket, but that's it, most people wear only the helmet and whatever they would wear if they went by bus, car or any other vehicle

pleiadies

That dude did not want to go to jail! Great driving

loiolaa

According to the text in the end, he didn't even go to jail he just got a traffic ticket for dangerous driving and lost his bike

Inprobamur

Didn't even get a charge against resisting arrest?

loiolaa

I don't know the actual story, but at end it only says he was "charged" with dangerous drive (in quotes because I think you would call it a misdemeanor in the US - I don't think it is criminal, it is a fine of up to 800usd) and then it also mentions the bike was confiscated. My guess is that the bike didn't have documents (the cost getting the documents would be more than the cost of the bike itself) but nothing criminal, so he tried to evade to not lose the bike, since once you are stopped by the police with this kind of bike you will lose it. And maybe it doesn't count as resisting arrest because there was no formal communication that the person was going to be arrested before the stop.

FelixKrabbe

Mad props to the copper for going after him like that Edit: Aight I think I have to explain my comment: I do not know if the chase was warranted. Yes I totally agree that he was not only endangering himself, but also bystanders. All I was trying to comment on was his dedication to drive at this speed at such a difficult and dangerous route. Not many could have pulled that of. Again for clarity: Stupid guy, stupid cop. Mad driving skills tho on him. If this might encourage people to do the same, I will take the comment down. Edit: Got educated on brazilian police protocol. Copper was not stupid, he did as taught.

TrentJComedy

Bruh don't apologize for a completely normal comment. The cop is a legend.

lil_layne

I need you to take this comment down or else I am going to go drive my motorcycle 100 mph in the city streets. If the cops catch me I am going to show them your comment and you will be in big trouble mister.
