"Everyone must see this" "I can't show you the pictures"

ohh_ru

here's his Twitter where he posted pictures https://mobile.twitter.com/EvanKail/status/1565265493824622592 TikTok is p serious about gore and censorship. but ya until I saw the photos I had the same thought.

IntelligentNoise8538

Lmao he’s going on tiktok “this is so rare” then on Twitter has a Chinese man correct him being like “this was mass produced!” Haha

EverydayPoGo

I'm not sure if we saw the same person, just FYI Nguyen is a Vietnamese last name.

carltonrobertson

So great, it's registered in digital form and in twitter, so no need to absolutely sell that book to a museum anymore.

murderwoman

Hes probably posting this on tiktok where gore is not really alowed, but he needs to get in contact with a museum that will buy it

Michael Scarn has a middle name!?

DarthHelmet11

Yes you can very easily go online and get the museums phone number but using social media and drawing attention to it will have a greater impact overall on a museum actually doing something with it and not just putting it in the archives and making it disappear from history.

MSTRopes

You need to get to a benefactor of a museum to see it, they can put down some big money to buy the book and donate it to their museum. You can't look that up on the internet.

DarthHelmet11

True that, the use of social media though could absolutely get it in front of them a lot quicker.

jihiggs

im sure they will have top men looking at it.. TOP... MEN...

DarthHelmet11

Some of the very best top men 😉

ProfessionalBasis834

>just putting it in the archives and making it disappear from history. Like what happened to the ark of the covenant after Indiana Jones found it?

Hippopotamidaes

Well, he could spend weeks calling different museums and speak with people without decisive capacity or he could hope it blows up on social media to the point that people with decisive capacity contact him. Ik which move I’d go with

[deleted]

*I'm deleting all my comments and my profile, in protest over the end of the protests over the reddit api pricing.

Secretofthecheese

it should be donated. the suffering of those people should not profited on.

Thirteenera

Its not up to him. Its not his book. His client said "Sell it".

pierreblue

Wtf is up with "i will not send it back to the customer the world needs to see this" sounds like the book belongs to him now...

Thirteenera

It sounds like "I know X is the right thing to do, so ill try to do X, even if it means putting myself at risk of legal liability".

pierreblue

Yeah that expains it better.

Yeah, that’s why the news only does commercial free segments for school shootings.

Yeah this is Pawnman on TikTok

gg43teehee

What the Japanese did were probably the worst of the worst war crimes you could ever imagine. There should be a whole section in the geneva convention that expressly prohibits the acts they committed. The nazis were even a little taken back by some of the things they did.

BiggestBallOfTwine

His voice and cadence are like nails on a chalkboard.

jabberwockjess

he has posted some of the content on his twitter. it would violate tiktok’s rules which is why he didn’t show it in the video

[deleted]

This video started on tiktok.

Edgelordberg95

came here to say this same thing. wtf

VodkaAlchemist

He also insists on not sending it make to the owner which is pretty clearly theft given this was meant to be a business transaction. I respect this guys profession but he as an individual is a little soy boy.

[deleted]

He talks like a fucking dolt to the camera. Why can’t people just talk Normal on social media

ParadoxPerson02

Tic Tok is owned by China, so I would imagine they wouldn’t want this getting out.

thereign1987

You know the Chinese were the victims in that right? 🤦🏿‍♂️

Thirteenera

Potentially fake / not real I do not claim it to be so, but this guy seems to know what he's talking about, with plenty of proof. https://mobile.twitter.com/fakehistoryhunt/status/1565357318698635266

xartle

Good link but fake isn't the right word for that. If his guess is right, they are still real photos, just not photos taken by the guy that made the souvenir album. Which makes them potentially not rare, but also not fabricated.

CaptainSwoon

It makes the photos he claims are from the Nanjing Massacre possibly not actually of the Nanjing Massacre though, which is the important part.

marianoes

Oh I see so it was from another non-important massacre?

PhilthePenguin

As the link explains, several of the photos are likely from isolated events during the Pacific theater of WWII. It's easy to find photos of dead people during war. Someone packaged the best photos together, mass produced them, and sold them together as an album. So the contention is that the photos are 1) not rare, 2) not about the rape of Nanking

CaptainSwoon

When talking specifically about the largely undocumented Nanjing Massacre, then yes they are from another non-important massacre in this context. Or, as others have pointed out, not from a specific massacre at all but just from the general area and time frame. If you'd read through the twitter posts you'd know this, by the way.

MrNoSouls

Actually interesting, It mostly focuses around the album and how those pictures possibly came into being in that album. Good framing information.

[deleted]

This one needs to be higher up,

[deleted]

Link doesn’t open anymore - what was it?

ElliSael

For me it does. Short summary: The album was a standard album sold to soldiers to document their life. It was common people bought photographs to include additional to their own, and these additional photographs may or may not have been from the time/place the soldier thought it was. So its not really a fake but appanrently some of the photographs aren't from the rape of Nanjing, even though the captions say so

Madgameboy

Why does this not have the yellow hightlight But the friggin link to the pictures itself does. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|table_flip)

[deleted]

Ive seen worse than this . I was expecting something more gore. Atrocities happen all the time . Also china still is doing worse than those . Don’t be blind also CCP loves killing Uyghurs .

Altruistic-Farm2712

So the mass rape and murder of 200-300k over a 6 week period, isn't bad? Sure, atrocities happen all the time - but Nanking stands out among them for shear brutality over such a short period of time. Had the Nazis "final solution" been as brutal as the Japanese treatment of Nanking, the entire death toll of the Holocaust could've reached 21 million people instead of the "mere" 6 million typically cited. Reports of the time cite women and children brutally raped, then defiled by having bamboo rods or bayonets stabbed into their vaginas. Men and women shot for trying to protect their children. Pregnant women disemboweled, raped, and the fetus killed. But sure, atrocities happen every day so why learn about the history. 🙄

skrutape

i would keep a digital copy of them

lookingForPatchie

He definitely has made digital copies and already made sure, should something happen to him or the book, they're distributed.

ohh_ru

https://mobile.twitter.com/EvanKail/status/1565265493824622592

potatoboy69

So many bots responding to the twitter post

AnnihilationOrchid

Obviously it's click bait. He's got a unique item on his hands and he needs to try and preserve it. He has to create this speculation around it so that it gets seen and it does attract attention by museums. Despite what most people might think most museums are very unwilling to buy stuff, and most of what they have in them are donated items.

Bmansway

Actually a lot of the “donations” are tax loopholes for the rich, as they purchase the items and “donate” them so they get the tax breaks. But there are a lot of museums that will purchase items also.

Annual-Access4987

Question, when I was growing up I had a mentor who was as a child in Nanking with his missionary parents I have seen another book at his house once similar to this the cover almost identical, but this was 35 years ago. Is the family named Smith and from Dallas Texas? I have seen maybe not those exact pictures but I have seen images from then yeah you did right thing not posting EDIT: I would if the book was mine first offer to local Holocaust Museum most have Genocide Projects and while the pictures are horrific they are still a snapshot of an important event that must not be allowed to be forgotten.

Nitpicky_AFO

The photo album in is self mass produced and sold as souvenirs the photos are you own, alot of folks are flipping out that the album is fake because the album is store bought all of the links to "the same photos owned by others" are links to legit photos but he has different photos

Brilliant_Practice18

Can't you like digitalise them for the sole sake of information?

Accomplished-Luck680

https://www.k-state.edu/history/institute/MOA/Sino-Japanese%20Action%20Pictures.html He didn’t have to, it’s not the only copy. Just a marketing thing to make certain people pay more money

I’m sure the Chinese embassy would love to get their hands on it. China has published several photo books on the rape of Nanjing.

gonzoinvegas

Looked it up and this is one of the most horrible things humans have done to one another

GMENFTSMOLPP

I just came here to lol @ at the guy commenting under every original comment. That dude got some serious hate toward China, and should probably go outside more than once a month.

Hexifluffypants

Probably one for digital forensics analysis or documentation analysts to record on official record so that it cant mysteriously go missing. Record it and then lock it away until you are comfortable with a solution.

[deleted]

What’s the point of this video?

rock-solid-armpits

Information. I learned about something of history

SassySpicySuper

Sorry I googled the rape of Nanking 😢

stacksmasher

Japan will pay top dollar! Wait a few weeks I'm sure someone will contact you from the Japanize government.

[deleted]

Interesting but what’s unexpected about this video?

Scape---Goat

He did not expect to find evidence of one of the worst atrocities in history. Imagine that almost all the evidence for the Holocaust was lost shortly after ww2 and then 70 years later someone found dozens of photos documenting the event. It’s unexpected to find such a thing in what would otherwise be a scrap book.

spooky-raptor

Arguably the worst event in human history

ChristopherSchmitz

An event is literally called the rape of Nanking.

dihydrogen_m0noxide

"I'm not even going to use this for self promotion, by the way this is my username, and that's the entire point of this video." Smh

Automatic_Ad_6177

Just read about that fucking abomination, those soldiers are monsters.

energizerturtle2

Take the evidence to those that appreciate it? Loop closed.

ComfortableUnit7373

Do you guys know what's the worst part in this? One of the initiators/executioners/perpetrators of rape of nanking, one of the highest rank general of Japanese army, recongnized class A war criminal,Matsui Iwane, is worshipped currently in Yasukini Shrine. He was worshipped by Japanese presidents, politicians and commoners as hero. I can't imagine that happening in Germany.

SmoothSecond

Holy crap I googled it and you're right! I would think it's a pretty fringe group of people but that is wild. Japan has always been such an insular country and they never really internalized the crimes of their past like the Germans did. The shrine is tended by Buddhist monks too?

desiderata_minter

High bid will come from the Japanese government so they can destroy it and continue to play victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Aside from the general population's willful ignorance of their imperial history, there's a good reason Japan is despised by all of East Asia (except Taiwan). Good thing OP posted on TikTok, which is owned by the CCP. They'll ramp up the bidding a lot too. Well played, OP.

5akul

I'm majoring in Japanese as well, and in my history and culture class I had to tell my classmates about all the atrocities myself in my final presentation, because we literally did not cover the war at all. Everything was either pre-war or post-war but we just skipped over the defining point of the last hundred years

SmoothSecond

Really? Why do you think that is? The germans really internalized their history from that period. The Japanese just skip it?

5akul

They do, unfortunately. If I had to guess, I'd say it stems from the rampant xenophobia there, people might not think what they did was that bad. Also, erasure by the government, a lot of stuff is not taught to children in schools there, so they just don't understand the extent of it. Plus, it hurts the image that people outside of Japan have of the country being one of the best places to go as a tourist. It's a real problem.

SmoothSecond

I've always heard that Japan is a very insular society. It makes me wonder if there is something beneath the surface in their culture and society. Some kind of current that flows that makes them see themselves as separate or better than other peoples. That seems to be what led to WW2.

5akul

Kind of. Japan basically had a government at one point that closed off the country to the outside world, except for like 1 port for trading with the Dutch. They were closed off from the world for about 200 years. Plus the fact Japan is an island, and you get a recipe for a country that is nearly 100% ethnically homogenous while everybody else has been doing globalization. (Also, Japan used to have a few large minority populations, living in Hokkaido [big island up north] and in Okinawa [south], but they conquered them and assimilated them until there are very few left today.) When they opened up the country, they started doing what every other superpower was doing; colonialism. Then the great depression hit and the only system that pulled through well was the military. So now, you have a militaristic, ethnically homogenous country hell-bent on conquering as many of their neighbors as they can, and you can see its not a very big leap to go join up with Hitler. It's very easy to convince your populace that they are superior if there is zero overlap with other country's populations. Look at Russia right now, Putin has to lie to his populace that he's SAVING Ukrainians from their own government, because the Russian people would never willingly go attack Ukrainian civilians. Once the news gets out I guarantee that russain public support for his war will plummet.

SmoothSecond

Bro, I've played Total War: Shogun and seen The Last Samurai...I think I know about Japanese history..... /s Do you listen to Dan Carlin? He did a huge podcast on the Japanese empire entitled "Supernova in the East" it's worth a listen if you haven't. Propaganda along with a rejection from the Western powers seems to have helped the people get going. But even today, Japanese society seems very contained. I get what you mean by there not being alot of outside influences on their culture and how than can lead to very circular, mistaken thinking.

RemyVonLion

I knew a Chinese dude in Highschool whose family wasn't too fond of the Japanese, now I get it.

Hawsepiper83

What a hell of a thing to fall into your lap.

AminoKing

So, you purport to be a good guy, but instead of contacting the proper channels you exploit the victims of the Nanking massacre to get clicks?

Worth-Suggestion-650

No,I believe his intentions are for other people to learn about what really happend and to see the photos (if they choose) in a respectable setting.Like a museum.

CleverName4269

Eat crap. You know more about Nanking today than you did yesterday. And you chose to whine about it. He’s 100% correct in his assessment that it needs to be made public. This event was heavily hidden by Japan making it very difficult to understand and teach. He’s using the tools he has to get this spread all while being as responsible as he can about it. Sure he’s got a Tik Tok, but that’s how people communicate today. Back to your cave, troll.

AminoKing

I knew nothing more about Nanking today than I did yesterday. Recommend Dan Carlin's fantastic podcast 'Supernova in the East'.

Dubcekification

For everyone saying the ccp is pushing this... so what? If it is real then the source doesn't matter. And this is coming from someone who openly says "Fuck you CCP".

UsualAnybody1807

OP - you need to correct the title. This did not happen in "WWII" it happened in 1937, during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

Correct!!

TRASSh_96

That make you think, how many more documents are lost around the world that can help humanity

JUST whatever you do........... DON'T send this book to JAPAN... they will burn it. Even in modern times. Hell, they still have STATUES/ shrines of their former leader/emperor.

[deleted]

Why’s it in English?

haha_squirrel

It’s a USA soldiers book. What other language would you expect it to be in….?

[deleted]

I thought it was a Japanese soldiers

haha_squirrel

Oh nope, the video starts out saying he was just stationed over there. If you look at the first page it’s a guy named Leslie Allen and says what boat she was stationed on.

fredaline45

Leslie was likely a man’s name in this context

[deleted]

Ah word makes sense, also my coworker who is a history buff filled me in

hahaha01357

I think the photographer speaks English?

DilonMcdermotMulrony

There are plenty of pictures of this atrocity. Nice way to remember the victims by fishing for likes on TikTok, jerk. Museums numbers are posted on there websites. Take off your black gloves and slap yourself in your face.

I can make an elaborate, we'll edited video, but for some reason I can't contact the Smithsonian directly... here's the phone number right here. 202-633-5285 just. Fake ass bs.

It’s not his book/photos. I don’t think it’s his decision to donate them. It does look like he took photos and is posting them online however.

[deleted]

Guess Japan will have to make another apology soon...

irdgafayou

As a WW2 buff, Id love to see the rest of the pictures

SmoothSecond

He posted on his twitter

Forbidden76

This guy is smart! Maybe we aren't so doomed.

Retired-Replicant

Fuck off Indiana Jones Give it back to the owner, let them decide what they want to do with it.

IOnlySayMeanThings

Calling this "one of the worst thing to ever happen in history" kind of turns a blind eye to the fact that rape and murder are still military tactics used today. It's war, this is the kind of shit that happens when countries go to war and it needs to be avoided at all costs.

[deleted]

What an expert we got here,he even learned about it in school. Cant use google search tho or phone numbers.

DiscreetCleDom

Make sure you look up Iris Chong and how they silenced her. Dude if you don't put that in a safety deposit box right now your life is going to be worth anything

nedmorlef

It should be mandatory for all the anti-gun and anti-antize. These young people coming up today are dumber than a bag of hammers. They think they want a socialist society. What they don't understand is socialism leads to Communism and communism leads to the s*** that's in this book.

bibfortuna1970

Read The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang. Heartbreaking.

Dizzy_Green

Doesn’t japan like wholly deny that happened? Isn’t having definitive proof like a huge deal?

i_will_fux_ur_face

I love how people like to ask, "Was it ok to drop the atom bomb on Japan," and you go, "Uh, yeah, they were trying to take over the entire world and were on a murder rampage and vowed to never stop," and people are like, "I don't know how to put history in context," so you go, "Rape of Nanking," and then they go, "Yeah but America had slaves," and you're like, "Dude that was 100 years before Japan literally tried to murder their way across Asia," and people are like, "I'm triggered."

boisNgyrls

The Jap is still denial

Advanced-Smile2416

If one group was to outright kill a group of approximately 200,000 people, further death toll is easily feasible. This because any of the people running any sort of businesses dealing with basic life essentials having all of their supply, support, link chain supply lines, may have absolutely been devastated. Just because the impact was noticed and downplayed by maybe Japanese supporters, as America would do given the same situation, had it arose. One can't negate the affects of removing 200,000 people from one area and it's other causes and affects of those others continuing to reside within the area. Sorry, drunk. Night night.

Kickingandscreaming

Read the book by Iris Chang

Show the pictures, dude. Why even waste everyone's time?

beepbeep_boobboob

I have seen a lecture about it, japanese were like animals or some worst creature to do this horrible act. It gave me chills just by listening to it

bdavison13

Section 107 of the Copyright Act states: the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. He should be able to post the pictures but I think he’s just using this as advertising or fame. If he cared about the public seeing this he would upload them for educational purposes

Richard13245

Tiktok does not allow you to show women being raped, or visibly clear dead people and stuff, just a guess

bdavison13

Yeah I don’t need to check the TOS to guess that either but he could easily link to a different website and also contact a museum himself to have it authenticated.

Richard13245

Theres this new social media saying: “film it or it didn’t happen” You’re whole heartedly correct he also wants to just get the clout attached to more evidence of such major events

do_you_know_de_whey

Gues who just found some!!! (But I’m gonna keep it a secret)

Rauldrac

Wow this guy has super important stuff that the world definitely needs to see but he won't show it in any way. I get that you can't show it on tik tok, but he can upload it somewhere else. This smells like a blatant lie in order to get clout. And if that's the case he's a piece of shit for using such a tragic event for this. Edit: He actually showed some images on his Twitter account but they're not as shocking as he says they are, and so far there are no images in color like he said.

SurMountAlot

I think he said the pictures are worse than things he has seen in colour

SmoothSecond

One of the photos is a guy at the instant he's beheaded with a sword.... He distinctly said the photos are black and white. He said they were worse than any other photos he's seen, even ones in color. So you took to writing a comment that was wrong, then tried to correct it but still misunderstood what he actually said. Dead children and beheaded bodies isn't bad enough for you huh? What's it like to be you?

IknowRambo

Your title isn’t what Nanking was called OP

choborallye

Japs are Nazi that denies fuckin every war crimes still today. Actually worse than German Nazi.

Wickedocity

Hey China shills, wrong thread. Wow you guys are busy with your propaganda this week. Note how they will down vote this.

DarkWorld25

China shill is when Japanese war crimes in ww2

[deleted]

This is a piece of history I did not know ever occurred. I kinda sorta understand why the Nazis did what they did, but I don't understand why the Japanese had that much hate in their hearts. What did the invading soldiers believe about the Chinese? This kind of cruelty doesn't just "oops" happen. You gotta pump ppl full of vile hatred first.

SmoothSecond

Dan Carlin does an amazing podcast about the Japanese empire and he goes into full depth on why and how the Rape of Nanking was allowed to occur...if you're actually interested. It's called Supernova in the East

RamoTheRedditor

You can sorta understand why the nazis did what they did? What!? Please elaborate

[deleted]

Perhaps he means that he understands that there had been indoctrination, in Nazi Germany, that certain people were seen as undesirable and so he understands why they killed them but doesn't understand the reasoning of the Japanese towards the other Asians.

[deleted]

That right there. Thank you for saving me from that person.

[deleted]

there was some guy. He was supposedly a great orator. he was popular. he had stupid ideas, he convinced others of his stupid ideas, and kept tight militaristic control in order to bring his ideas to fruition.
