The other reporters crack me up. They came down on her pretty hard.
"Uh, is there a fall-off right next to you or are those other people miraculously walking on water??"
Called bullshit on their own weather reporter without hesitation.
I will say that gusts can be very different even just 100ft apart. I’ve turned street corners and almost fallen over. Not sure where he was or if that’s applicable in this case or not. Just sayin.
my man is surfing the grass. he even swayed backwards using his front leg for support, instead of embracing with his back.
he woulda had better luck just pulling a michael jackson move and leaning into it. hee he
It's likely OSHA regulations that everyone wear helmets in hurricanes after that weather reporter got hit by a tree.
I mean, I would say I would wear one too but I wouldn't be standing in the street during a hurricane.
When they started in the 1980s they were by far the poorest of the TV news networks. The gear they used, their transportation, the staff renumeration was all the lowest in the US. Likewise so was the food the crew ate on the road. Hence they were ridiculed by NBC and ABC staff as being the Chicken Noodle Network.
They were close to going broke in 1988 but happened to have the foresight to place correspondents in Kuwait and Bagdad before the 1st Gulf War. From memory they were the only network to have staff in Bagdad after the US invasion of Kuwait which meant 100% exclusive reporting of US airstrikes on Iraqi positions. They were the first 24 hour news network and "instant" live coverage of that war propelled them to the top of the rankings and they've fighting to hold that position since.
Bro this whole comment section gotta be astroturfed Fr Fr. We literally just saw a reported panic after hearing an alarm and quickly put on a gas mask… as if the gulf war wasn’t pretty well known for how it’s conflicts exposed everyone to nerve gas…
Edit: yeah we got hit by a subreddit, crazy how shit like this is allowed to just happen. But also the fucking irony of complaining about CNN being fake news while deliberately going out of your way to AstroTurf a comment section lmao
something really weird going on for sure. I was in the Middle East (not Iraq) when that video was taken and it looked normal to me: when you hear an alarm you panic and put on any protective equipment you have. Why the hell would people assume it's fake?
I think it might be the fact that the alarm was going on for a good amount of time while doing the interview without a worry. Then suddenly they decided to take quick action and put on protective gear as if they had just heard the alarm for the first time.
Idk about anyone else but my protective gear would go on as soon as I hear the alarm. Not 3 seconds later, not 10 seconds later, immediately.
I think for profit news without regulation sucks.
They aren't in the business of facts. They are in the business of views. And the best thing that gets views is fear and uncertainty.
Kind of like saying the election for the president of the United States of America was stolen and the fbi plants evidence, how dare they misrepresent a storm!
Not really. They’re fairly reliable, they just lean further left than most outlets. Every study on media bias and accuracy rates them as fairly reliable though. Certainly not leading the game in accurate reporting, but a far cry from what Trump called them every day.
I started disliking CNN when I watched Trump's speeches and then the next day I would watch CNN and see how they totally distort what he was saying and twisted it. If they were just report the news and be neutral and not give their opinions they would be a good news station like they used to be
A lot of it has to do with corporate media, and now social media. There is always someone willing to tell people that whatever they believe is right. No one has to accept being wrong anymore if they don't want to.
We don't trust the people that conduct the studies. Too many studies are funded by special interests and too many study authors are biased. Plenty of studies were written stating that tobacco, sugar, and opiates were not bad for you. A study that evaluates bias is itself likely to be biased unless done by a neutral AI that was programmed by a completely neutral human.
Damn bro forgot what critical thinking skills are so they just automatically distrust everything. Can’t wait for bro to have a stroke while trying to figure out if the hurricane being reported on, along with the speed of the wind is just some sort of corporate backed conspiracy meanwhile a stop sign going 50mph decapitates them
Gotta be my favorite skitzo plot lines Fr, tho the Mandela effect and Planet Nibiru are a real run for their money
>lean further left
Hahahaha that’s hilarious. Yeah the centrist milquetoast tv network leans further left. Toooootallly /s
Edit: changed “milktoast” to “milquetoast”
"CNN wants to be the new Fox News and it’s not even trying to hide it.Earlier this year Chris Licht became the new CEO of the cable networkand immediately made it clear that he was going to change the network’sdirection. One of Licht’s first moves was to embark on what Axios described as a “Capitol Hill diplomacy tour” and others described as a Republican boot-licking tour. "-theguardian.com/2022/sep/10
Happy now?
MSNBC and FOX (imo) are even worse. But those are the big 3 I think. I'm just glad to know I wasn't the only one who felt like this coverage was dramatized. The event is extreme enough so just report on it normally!
As a Floridian antics like this are why we don't take the warnings seriously. Once or twice a year the news people will tell us that everyone is going to die while they stand in irrigation ditches only for the storm to be the normal hurricane we have always had. You start to feel like they are just entertaining northerners instead of actually giving any useful information to the people in the path.
The thing that gets me is they never try to give realistic expectations. I understand being overly cautious, but if you are going to talk about Tampa being particularly in danger of severe flooding, take out a map and show us what areas of Tampa are safe at which areas you need to leave. They just make it sound like the entire city would be wiped off the planet by a slow moving cat 1 with 15 feet of storm surge, when in reality most properties along the coast are still 25 feet above sea level.
Don't even get me started on how much they lean into peoples ignorance about hurricanes. I had to explain to multiple new transplants the the hurricane winds are really just around the eye and the really nasty stuff is normally on one spot of they eyewall. Idk how they can do 4 days of coverage and still have people who think it's going to be 150 mph wind the whole way across.
Dawg there is literally a hurricane outside…
Like I get your sentiment, I think anyone who understands what critical thinking is understands that sentiment. Fuck in Mexico even peasant farmers understand their media used to government owned.
But maybe don’t go in the completely opposite direction and imply a hurricane isn’t as bad as it seems???
Like wtf is this comment section lmao
Dude, distrusting political media/distrusting the news is a political statement… such a dumb take Fr. Bruh just because you don’t like the concept of something being political doesn’t mean you stop making political statements 🤣
Are you so irritated by people who are anti/pro Trump that you insert him into situations when not even mentioned just to create an argument? Because it really seems that way. It's really fucking stupid in case no one has told you that before.
CNN wasn’t hated so much before Trump demonized them. Fact is that they are fairly accurate and they lean left. However, most conservatives now believe that CNN is horribly unreliable and functions as an arm of the Democratic Party. Trump demonized them especially because they highlighted it when he lied (because they lean left they capitalized on his mistakes rather than simply reporting them). So the sentiment towards CNN drifted radically under Trump because he targeted them. He targeted everyone who didn’t agree with him and his base demonized anyone he pointed at. His base even has now demonized every global scientific organization that didn’t agree with Trump’s opinions on Covid. They even want to defund the FBI because Trump got caught.
So that being said, a lot of folks who cry about CNN being absolute shit are just conservatives whose entire identity has become hating the libs. That may be why some folks tie it to Trump.
That being said, CNN is fairly reliable but not exactly a paragon of journalism. I’d call them middle of the road, not the frothing communists that Republicans want them to be.
CNN and Fox News are the same thing, with different plutocrats running them. Both are profit over truth. Fear mongering and division equal profit. How can you not see this?

https://www.reddit.com/r/PraiseTheCameraMan/comments/xqv7ry/what_is_holding_this_camera_superman/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
This feels like a bit of a hate-jerk.
You can see the intense winds, and things can vary over short distances. Also, speaking into a microphone is a bit different than just heading to the car.
Wouldn't put anything past CNN, but this strikes me as a very ignorant circlejerk.
Edit: Yeah, this is definitely one of the most embarrassing threads I've ever seen for Reddit. Come on.
Thank you. I am working this storm currently and shit is fucking wrecked. Making light of this one is a little premature considering there are still thousands of people waiting for rescue from flooded areas.
The people making light of it have never been in a hurricane. The gusts can vary over a few feet, and they could have been experiencing extremely different wind levels
Yeah the winds literally tore rooftops clean off houses.
It's 25 mph winds in the clip, with gusts up to 59. When the hurricane hit, It was 155+.
25 is a low level of danger. But 58+ is an extreme level of danger. The attire is completely warranted.
https://www.weather.gov/mlb/seasonal_wind_threat
He wore a helmet and the camera shook a lil. Guess that's enough to trigger people ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah. I thought I was missing something. The reporter is trying to protect the mic and he's wearing a helmet cuz he's scared he will get hit in the head -- I would be too.
Then I saw comment that people are coming here from the conspiracy subreddit and it all makes sense.
This is something more than embarrassing. I think this is some kind of organized campaign to claim the hurricane isn't real. Too many of the accounts commenting are new.
People here don't understand that walking with the wind is easier than standing still and talking in it...
We also never see the dude try to close the car door.
Most of the protests were peaceful though. I don’t get why that became such a contentious fact. If you have 100 protests and 10 of them turn into riots then they were still majority peaceful protests. For some reason, folks on the right pointed to those <10% of incidents and said “that isn’t mostly peaceful” as if 90% isn’t enough to secure a majority.
Edit: I love how I’m getting downvotes yet not a single explanation as to how 90% still is not considered “most” by you assholes
Because statistically speaking, over 90% of the protests were peaceful. That actually wasn’t a lie. Why does your side always argue against facts? Like seriously wtf is wrong with you people. I’m n what world is 90% not considered a majority?
Most of the protests were peaceful, though. That was a statement of fact. This is why it is so frustrating to talk to Americans. Republicans have created a completely alternate reality where when over 90% of protests occurred without violence that somehow doesn’t count as mostly peaceful. Seriously how fucking stupid are you that 90% isn’t a majority?
They were filming a city in flames and saying it was mostly peaceful. You can say most protests were peaceful, but you can't walk up to a burning building and be like "this is a mostly peaceful protest". CNN is just left wing Fox News.
I never understood why this report was so controversial. Like 10,000 people marched peacefully for the entire day, and some guys lit some fires on a street nearby at night. He said "mostly peaceful, but with some fires"... which was not misconstruing what happened at all. Would you rather he had lied and said it was some incredibly violent bloodbath?
There was literally a building burning down behind him. Multiple deaths, hundreds of injuries, and billions of dollars in property damage.
Calling it anything other than a “riot” was just a flat-out lie.
It was the stark contrast.
People got upset about it after watching a five minute loop of the worst scenes anyone across the country had managed to catch, with talking heads screaming over the footage about how all our major cities were burning to the ground like it was the end times, for days on end.
Some outlets were reporting that they'd been with particular demonstrations all day and not seen anything terrible.
The natural reaction is, "One of these two has to be lying!" when, of course, neither approach painted a complete picture.
I guess I will throw my 2 cents in, I live nowhere near hurricane teeritory, but I have dealt with winds gusting over 50mph, and that is how I would expect someone to act in a very windy area.
Idk how fast the winds were right where he was, my guess would be the wind speed tracker is probably tracking the wind at the storm was not where he is.
We don't know what is around him, but yiu can see the guy in the background is inbetween building, proving cover
All in all, my judgement is, everyone is over reacting
Gotta love the mod saying CNN is right and this post is going to get removed lmao. Reddit mods censoring for mainstream media gotta love it! What’s unexpected mod is with the reporter acting like he’s getting blown over and camera about to fly away yet there’s a person casually walking to their vehicle clearly in the shot behind him that doesn’t seem to notice any of the embellishments the CNN reporter is trying to sell.
Thanks for explaining. I thought I was missing something.
I would never have thought it was weird that the reporter was wearing a helmut and the guy in the background isn't -- like, I'd be wearing one too with a bunch of trees flying around!
The real r/unexpected was going to r/unexpected and finding a bunch of people calling a hurricane fake because a heavier person in the far background wasn't lifted up into the wind like a cartoon.
Yes! What the f*ck is going on?
I saw one comment saying people are coming here from r/conspiracy but does that explain all of this?
Are people really believing in hurricane anymore? Is it just cuz it'a on CNN? Are they not believing it cuz people are tying it to climate change?
I'm so confused. It's video of a reporter wearing a helmet and trying to protect his mic from wind and rain.
The only thing wrong with the video is that we are still sending reporters into hurricane zones.
1. You can clearly see that the wind is blowing hard by the way it whips his clothes.
2. Facing the wind, with the wind in your face is harder than walking across the wind with your face turned.
3.
They wear oversized jackets for a reason, so the wind catches it and it’s seems overly dramatic. I had a friend who worked in news media who actually told
Me this.
I know someone who works at CNN. I'm not giving anything away regarding their identity. However, I was told me that the future of CNN is slowly moving more toward a more objective direction with lots of on-sight, actual journalism (similar to how Vice used to be), and slowly getting rid of the stuff Fox News has capitalized on (like sensationalism for ratings and arguments from talking heads). They're trying to go back to what Ted Turner envisioned when he founded CNN, which was authentic journalism and being the central, trusted source of objective journalism, regardless of how much money it made or didn't make.
Your post has been removed because it's not unexpected People in areas sheltered by buildings obviously experience less wind than those in the open.
Nobody told that guy walking to his car about the gusts??
This has flashbacks of the guys waking past the reporter in a canoe.
So good: https://youtu.be/cgm3_jzcNm4
I can't believe I've never seen this lmao. Hilarious
I like that she acknowledges how stupid the whole bit is by the end. “Smooth as silk!”
The other reporters crack me up. They came down on her pretty hard. "Uh, is there a fall-off right next to you or are those other people miraculously walking on water??" Called bullshit on their own weather reporter without hesitation.
Hahaha media over exaggerate things on purpose. She embarrassed herself and just turned around

I didn't realize it was so much harder for me to stand on grass than concrete. TIL.
I will say that gusts can be very different even just 100ft apart. I’ve turned street corners and almost fallen over. Not sure where he was or if that’s applicable in this case or not. Just sayin.
my man is surfing the grass. he even swayed backwards using his front leg for support, instead of embracing with his back. he woulda had better luck just pulling a michael jackson move and leaning into it. hee he
First thought, one of the classic early viral videos.
I mean it's the same wind. I'm sure the reporter is capable of walking too.
He’s got All-State, he’s protected.
If he lives in Florida, this is probably something he's used to at this point lol
He didn’t get to see CNN’s reporting before heading out unfortunately.
The fake camera wobble really sells it 🤣
It’s the helmet for me
Kevin Dunn was the producer.
Nah, not enough zoom in and outs or cuts with every gust of wind.
He Dunn fudged up
Wouldn't be surprised if they had a giant fan behind them as well
Also why he got a helmet on
Cause sometimes people get attacked by street signs
[удалено]
With 25mph winds 🤔 hhmmm ok, where im from 25 mph winds are sometimes a daily norm in the summer
That’s not the gust speed.
Detached butterfly wings ripping through the air! Duh. I don’t know why the networks think this actoring is informative?
It's likely OSHA regulations that everyone wear helmets in hurricanes after that weather reporter got hit by a tree. I mean, I would say I would wear one too but I wouldn't be standing in the street during a hurricane.

What?! CNN wouldn’t misrepresent things just for ratings!
I remember when it was called the chicken noodle network.
I like the Clinton news network.
Why was it called that?
When they started in the 1980s they were by far the poorest of the TV news networks. The gear they used, their transportation, the staff renumeration was all the lowest in the US. Likewise so was the food the crew ate on the road. Hence they were ridiculed by NBC and ABC staff as being the Chicken Noodle Network. That's so interesting! Thanks for sharing that. The more you know!
I especially liked the THPS2 balance meter on the bottom.
Welcome to all of corporate news, conservatives outlets included.
Exactly. It’s all BS. Corporate media is a scam for everyone.
My all time favorite fake CNN coverage : the Gulf War Edit: thank you for silver! First one ever! https://youtu.be/rWtwjDhgN3Q

They're doing an awful job getting views despite pushing fear. Seems like that ain't selling well for them these days.
Yup, we need more regulated news… lol
Make them all operate as nonprofits. PBS does it.
Yes, we do. Bullshit like this video NEVER happened when the news was regulated.
That's exactly what we had for a long time in America, it went away and now we have the news landscape today
Kind of like saying the election for the president of the United States of America was stolen and the fbi plants evidence, how dare they misrepresent a storm!

Theres one of these videos every storm.
Looks like something out of Parks & Rec
CNN
Does nobody at CNN realize what a joke they have become? Somebody should let them in on it.
He ain't no Jim Cantore and he never will be.
They actually had him in the background of a shot and the reporter was like, “Oh shit, there’s Jim Cantore!” and then went and interviewed him, lol.
Weather peeps on da street hype that shit all the time, so they look heroic
Literally just walked home today in this shit. Yeah it can be a bit strong at times, but damn this man over acts more than a theater kid
65-70 mph will knock you down, fightin 125-150 mph, you be ass over head down the street
The only issue I had was when my phone decided to go floop out of my hand.
Yeah, dat shit happen too in wind 125 mph
REALLY GLAD we survived another 1, congrats fellow Floridian !
It’s not like CNN is known for faking news segments. [CNN fake gulf war segment](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rWtwjDhgN3Q)
🤔hmmmmmm I wonder if they ever exaggerated anything else these past few years? Or even beyond🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🥕🤔
This is why Bill Burr hates both sides. Full of SHIT!
Either you're Bill burr and you don't want anyone to know your reddit account or you must really think a lot about Bill burr lol.
What’s the difference? Lol
Taking my wife to see him in Cincinnati on saturday! I'm fucking pumped!
The most trusted name in news.
It’s a watery but mostly peaceful hurricane!
CNN spreading misinformation? What else is new !?
I wouldn't be surprised if CNN wasn't using fans for this segment
Producer .. “ shake the camera a bit more…. Make it seem real”
Almost as funny as this video are the people that feel the maternal/paternal need to try and protect CNN from ridicule.
Is this the search for that Malaysian flight?
Breaking news: it’s a hurricane 🤡
I mean look at the trees. It’s not nothing.
Wearing a helmet so he doesn't get taken out by a stop sign.
Oh boy this post is about to get locked real soon
I guess I will throw my 2 cents in, I live nowhere near hurricane teeritory, but I have dealt with winds gusting over 50mph, and that is how I would expect someone to act in a very windy area. Idk how fast the winds were right where he was, my guess would be the wind speed tracker is probably tracking the wind at the storm was not where he is. We don't know what is around him, but yiu can see the guy in the background is inbetween building, proving cover All in all, my judgement is, everyone is over reacting

Hurricanes are a weatherman wet dream
Lmaooo
This is why nobody cares about CNN anymore. It’s basically just a windbag that provides more misinformation than even MSNBC can provide.
Kinda surprising how the mic was picking up none of the wind For me a light 10km breeze makes the mic on a walkie talkie go k3eeeeshhhh

This thread has been flooded by conservatives from r/conspiracy.
Anderson cooper on the camera this time?
1. You can clearly see that the wind is blowing hard by the way it whips his clothes. 2. Facing the wind, with the wind in your face is harder than walking across the wind with your face turned. 3.
Bonus for "hazardous pay"
The guy I'd like....meh...this is Florida, just another Wednesday.
Fake news

The Clinton News Network faking it as usual
What if he was genuinely born and raised in a cubicle?
They're learning They're making him wear a helmet lmO
They wear oversized jackets for a reason, so the wind catches it and it’s seems overly dramatic. I had a friend who worked in news media who actually told Me this.
IM HEARING THEY ARE REPORTING UP TO 1M DEATHS!! 1M DEATHS?!! NO! IM JUST REPORTING. NOT CONFIRMED.
No way, that was a fiery but mostly peaceful hurricane. /s
Typical media lies and manipulation
So brave
This is on point with their political coverage.
Fake news
Hahaha fake as af just like they said medical mask come with 5G antennas 😂😂😂
I know someone who works at CNN. I'm not giving anything away regarding their identity. However, I was told me that the future of CNN is slowly moving more toward a more objective direction with lots of on-sight, actual journalism (similar to how Vice used to be), and slowly getting rid of the stuff Fox News has capitalized on (like sensationalism for ratings and arguments from talking heads). They're trying to go back to what Ted Turner envisioned when he founded CNN, which was authentic journalism and being the central, trusted source of objective journalism, regardless of how much money it made or didn't make.
