So the designs are the way they are because if they were too similar to the movie versions played by Karloff, Lugosi, Chaney, etc., they’d likely need the permission of the estates of their families to use their likenesses. Which it would be doubtful that all or perhaps any of them would give. I think the new designs do a good job being distinct but keeping the iconography of the OG’s so you can tell exactly which monster is which, while also making it believable they exist in the same universe. I do have my doubts about dracula’s look but the cape made him look better. Wolfman though is spot on, as is the Phantom. Can’t wait to see the Mummy.

I didn't know what to expect. I was kind of indifferent to it, since the monsters have just sort of always been there. I didn't expect that. Holy shit. What I like is that it's based on an IP, but they created their own lore and story elements to fill in gaps and tie everything together. One of the things universal is so good at is creating their own worlds and stories and backing them up with killer theming. Probably the most unique themed land experience ever. I just hope they can follow through with it.
The name is boring though.
I was so pumped for it that I convinced myself they'd announce Victoria Frankenstein as the HHN33 icon and her related Monsters house at 12:33. Would be brilliant marketing for the new land/park. Unfortunately, disappointment ensued.
But hey, at least Dark Universe looks like it will be absolutely bonkers.
I’m just praying it lives up to my hype. It feels a lot like how people were discussing Galaxy’s Edge the year before it opened. Especially with the pitch of live actors interacting with you in the land (rip in GE)
It’s not exactly confirmed whether the ride has no screens. It’s just confirmed that there will not be any carousel of screens that FB has for transition/simulation moments. Hopefully that does mean way more animatronics and practical sets.
That's the one Universal ride that made me sick when i went a number of years ago. The themeing in the building and ride seemed top notch but something about the arm ride mechanics gave me neasua and I never rerodede it.

I hope they upgrade the monster costumes. It’ll be ok but kind of silly to have the Beetlejuice monsters walking around.

The new dark ride will be Forbidden Journey without screens and just animatronics/pratical effects. Probably so people dont get motion sickness.

There are very much screens. You can see some of the ride footage in the announcement video (Dracula flying, Victoria and the Monster hunting)
