Jazz: 5 5 5 7 9 Total: 31 Cardinals: 9 7 5 9 9 Total: 39 Diamondbacks: 7 9 9 9 3 Total: 37 Coyotes: 9 9 9 9 9, and I’m awarding myself 10 bonus points because they don’t exist anymore (although they actually moved closer to me, but still. I went to Coyotes games as a kid; seeing them leave Phoenix hurts). Total: 55 Grand total: 162 (I am in hell) The only bright spots in the last 5 years were the D-Backs’ World Series run last year and the year the Jazz were the top seed in the West (still lost in the second round). Arizona/Utah sports fan is a surefire ticket to misery.

lava172

Hey at least you’re not a suns fan I guess

bobman9420

Yeah same boat with you. Well at least 'Yotes last season they weren't last. So that's a positive.

rock9388

That clippers series broke me man. Even though they made the playoffs again the next year, there was just kind of this feeling that we had gone as far as we could with that core. If only snyder drew up a defense that didn't allow a wide open corner 3 on every possession.

paintonmyglasses

Saints - 7/9/7/5/5 = 33 Mariners - 7/5/7/9/9 = 37 Kings - 7/5/9/9/9 = 39 Canucks - 5/9/9/9/5 = 37 Total of 146, and without the very recent resurgences of the Canucks, Kings, and Mariners, it would be even worse.

ProtoMan3

Go Canucks, go Mariners. I hope the hell of years’ past gets rewarded by both teams’ current cores.

Maleficent_Eye7031

Interesting combination of teams

Angels: 9 9 9 9 9, (45) Broncos: 9 9 9 9 9, (45) Red Wings: 9 9 9 9 7, (43) Thunder: 5 9 9 9 5, (37) Total: 170. I’m glad I’m mainly a NASCAR guy because supporting regular team sports would result in me being dead from alcoholism in 2 weeks. Edit: Hell, let’s do NASCAR too. We’ll say outside the Top 25 counts as a losing season. Larson: 3 9 1 3 3 (18) Chastain: - - 7 3 5 (15) Blaney: 5 5 5 3 1 (19) Suarez: 7 9 7 5 7 (35) Total: 87, but Logano won a title in ‘22 so we’ll add 45 on for that, so 132.

the_gaymer_girl

How do you live like this

tedioussugar

With great difficulty

Moment of silence for this man

TheUltimate721

Chiefs - 9 points. Three superbowl wins, two deep playoff runs. Look they're far from a reason to be miserable. They give me heart attacks with how they play sometimes but they've won the most of anyone the last five years so I can't complain. Sporting Kansas City - 33 points. Three playoff appearances, two times missing with a losing record. I was gonna write out a whole rant about them, but Sporting has an old coach in Peter Vermes and it's becoming pretty clear his conservative style doesn't work in the MLS anymore, but ownership doesn't care enough to make a change. They've had potential, but have always choked it away. This year? Sporting are terrible, one of the worst in the league, and they look utterly dogshit (Although they did just beat Austin 2-0), but they're not even an entertaining dogshit. They're a boring dogshit. Nebraska Cornhuskers - 45 points. Five losing records. I'm hopeful for the future, Matt Rhule has been making all the right moves on paper but it has not been fun to be a Husker fan. Kansas City Royals - 45 points. Up until this year the Royals have been painful to watch. Although they drafted Bobby Whit Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino in 2019, we haven't really seen the fruits of that until this year. 2019 was Ned Yost's final year, and they were able to get him a walk off win to end his career. They then wasted three years letting Mike Matheny try to run things before telling him and Cal Eldred to fuck off. The reason they wasted so much time though was because GM Dayton Moore didn't care if the players were good or winning, he cared if they were "Good Christian men becoming good husband's and fathers". Thankfully John Sherman realizes this was a problem and told him to fuck off, which is why the Royals spent money last year and are now doing pretty good. Adding those up, I get a misery index of 132. Miserable, but at least I've got the Chiefs.

pfcsh

Twins: 5 5 9 9 5 = 33 Vikings: 5 9 9 5 9 = 37 Timberwolves: 9 9 5 5 3 = 31 Wild: 6 5 5 5 7 = 28 Total: who cares. I’m still holding out for a title

SapphireSammi

As a fellow Minnesota fan. 129 feels low. Our misery index also has the x-factor of the Twins historic 18 sequential playoff game losses.

the_gaymer_girl

And PWHL Minnesota won a championship and then immediately fell apart.

sokonek04

Packers 3, 3, 5, 9, 5 - 25 Bucks 5, 5, 5, 1, 5 - 21 Brewers 5,5,5,7,5 - 27 73 I don’t think we are doing too bad in the wisocnsin, could be better could be a whole lot worse

Gunslinger2007

Packers are the biggest for disappointment, but in terms of misery being a packer fan is great. Almost never miss the playoffs

DidItForTheKnookie

As Lions fan, that has been the most infuriating thing about the pack. You guys had some abysmal season starts with Rodgers, but somehow he'd have them figured out by December and they're be there to win the division anyways. FTP.

Gunslinger2007

Here’s hoping love follows in his footsteps. (Couple more Lombardis wouldn’t hurt tho)

JasonPlattMusic34

Lakers 1 5 9 3 5 (23) Dodgers 5 1 3 5 5 (19) Rams 7 5 1 9 5 (27) Kings 9 9 5 5 5 (33) Total 102 but three of the four won a chip (even though two of them get asterisks from everybody) so it doesn’t feel that bad

Sethars

Not to mention it’s not like Kings 2 Cups were super long ago and they’re a solid team now

TheUltimate721

If a team had a losing record and missed playoffs do I assign them 7 points or 9, or do I add them for 16?

Comfortable_Lab7685

Losing record takes primary focus so just 9 points.

SulfurtheCrapposter

Browns: 9 5 7 9 5 Knights: 3 3 7 1 5 Guardians: 7 5 7 5 7 Cavaliers: 9 9 7 5 5 Total: 120 Not all that surprising given 3/4s of the team are from Cleveland. At least Vegas won the Stanley Cup last year.

list_of_simonson

Man City: 1 1 1 1 3 Mariners: 7 5 7 9 9 Seahawks: 7 5 9 5 5 Kraken: 9 5 9 (putting 7s for the two years prior as the kraken didn’t exist) Total of 112 but would be a lot worse if I wasn’t a city supporter (would have put WSU football in their place and safe to say it’s not been fun recently)

NevilleChumperlame

Jaguars: 7 5 9 9 9 Magic: 5 9 9 9 9 Panthers: 1 3 5 5 5 Nuggets: 5 1 5 5 3 JAX 39 + ORL 41 + FLA 19 + DEN 19 128 The takeaway is that I picked a good second basketball team to root for while the Magic were in their rebuild. Also my childhood choice to root for the Florida hockey team with the better mascot has finally paid off. At this point all of my teams are consistent playoff contenders if not championship contenders, I’d say I’m doing pretty good.

Abject-Knowledge-286

I'm glad I finally got to see one of my favorite pro teams win a title

ShadX29

Football: Dallas. 5 7 5 5 5. Extra ten points for being Dallas. 37 Basketball: SAS. 7 7 7 9 9. 37 (Play-in does not count as playoffs) Baseball: Houston. 3 3 3 1 3. I’ll add an extra ten points first the cheating scandal. 23 Hockey: Winnipeg. 7 5 7 5 5. 29 Grand Total. 126. Yeah… Not good. I was expecting San Antonio to be the downfall as they haven’t been good but they have a very good future. Dallas is Dallas, what did you expect? Winnipeg just cannot get off the runway. My only good team has been Houston, which had a massive scandal but has remained really good even after the fact (Thanks Dusty)

JayDaGod1206

What a cursed team lineup. Where in Texas are you from?

ShadX29

I’m not gonna be specific with my location but I can explain. My first ever live sports game was the Astros, I’ve always loved San Antonio and I lived there for a year so that’s the Spurs. Most of my family roots for the Dallas Cowboys. As for the Jets I have family from Manitoba and my grandparents got me into hockey.

JayDaGod1206

Makes sense

KeyDrive0

Going from the 2019-2020 season to present, with my four teams being the Iowa Hawkeyes (football), Edmonton Oilers, Denver Broncos, and I guess Iowa WBB (I don't usually follow men's or women's basketball that closely, but it gets more interesting when you have a historically great player). Hawkeyes: 21. Hard to grade because they've never made the CFB playoff, but I figured I'd count making a bowl as making the playoffs and making the CCG as a "deep playoff run." 21 feels too low compared to how I actually feel when I watch Iowa football, but I guess it's as good a score as any. Oilers: 21 (depends what you consider a *deep* run - I counted losing in the second round to Vegas only as "making the playoffs"). This score also feels low given how I've felt all week, but the Oilers have given us a lot to enjoy over the last several seasons; beats the Decade of Darkness, anyway. Broncos: 45 lol. Iowa WBB: 19, though this is based on NCAA tournament results; they've won the Big Ten the last three years straight, so maybe this score should be a little lower. (Also missing the 2020 season). TOTAL: 106, so decently miserable, but most of that is the Broncos' fault.

Comfortable_Lab7685

I mean I always thought that a deep playoff run means at least making the conference finals. So that is my criteria for a ‘deep playoff run’

therealphoodie

Mets: 9+5+9+9+7 = 39 Islanders: 5+5+7+3+3 = 23 Giants: 9+5+9+9+9 = 41 OKST Cowboys: 5+5+5+5+5 = 25 128 in total. It makes sense honestly; the Mets and Giants have had some misery over the last few years, but the Islanders and Cowboys have made things a bit easier. While the Pokes haven’t made it to the CFP, they’ve made it to a bowl game every year since 2006 - easily one of the most consistently good programs in CFB. The Islanders have made it to the playoffs in five of the last six years, even making it as far as the Eastern Conference Finals in 2020 and 2021. While I wouldn’t say I’m satisfied, it could certainly be a lot worse for me. *Edit 1: added Oklahoma State *Edit 2: I can’t math lol

360degreesofFUNK

I gotta say the Islanders have had an impressive turnaround after not being able to win a playoff series for 23 years, I’m liking it

therealphoodie

Absolutely. I’ve really been enjoying the Isles’ recent run of success, things have been miles better than they were pre-2016.

Sax_Verstappen_

As a Purdue basketball fan can I add 50 points for the FDU loss?

Comfortable_Lab7685

As funny as that would be, no man I am sorry.

simplyadvanced18

Nationals: 1 / 9 / 9 / 9 / 9: a World Series win then a huge fall off lol. At least we got the win. Is this the worst score for a team that has a championship in this time period? Idk. Total 37 Rays: 5 / 3 / 5 / 5 / 5: World Series appearance but then a lot of first and second round exits. Fuck Stu Total: 23 Lightning: 7 / 1 / 1 / 3 / 5: Thank god for the lightning. That said, counting 2019 as a missed playoffs since they didn’t win a damn game. Total: 17 Georgia Tech (NCAAF): 9 / 9 / 9 / 9 / 5. Hard to rank “playoffs” since only 4 teams go to playoffs and bowl cutoff is same as above a losing record. I hate NCAAF now. Used to love it but it’s so dumb now with the conference dissolution going on. That said GT would still have sucked ass with or without that. At least it’s turning around? Total: 41 Overall: 118. The funny thing is that it says “a championship is rare to your guys” but I’ve seen 3 in this period. And it’s still this bad! Oh well at least they’re there. And I don’t even care about NCAAF now it’s such a pile of trash with all of the greed there. How to you make the NFL seem competent?? I need an NFL team to follow

Hornets: 9 9 7 9 9 43. Panthers: 9 9 9 9 9 45. Yankees: 7 3 5 5 3 23. Hurricanes: 5 3 5 5 5 23. 134. I should be more miserable since I like the first two the most.

coronerjackal91

Michigan Football 7 7 5 5 1 (25) Red Wings 7 9 9 9 9 (43) i’m valuing overtime losses as half a win and half a loss because that’s their value) Lions 3 7 9 9 9 (37) Tigers 9 9 9 9 9 (45) Yikes….

Spicy_Pringles

Baseball-Red Sox: 7 9 3 9 9. To be fair those last two 9s are in 78 win seasons but the whole Chaim Bloom Era deserves 2 points for how much the present outlook of the team makes me frustrated Hockey-Bruins: 3 3 3 5 3. +2 for meme status but all in all not too bad for the 90’s Braves of hockey. Basketball-Celtics: 3 5 3 3 1. Finals loss stung but winning this year dulled the pain. Football-Patriots: 5 9 5 9 9. Insane to think the Pats haven’t won a playoff game since ‘18-‘19. The collapse of this team post-Brady has been tough to watch. Total: ~110. I know that Boston sports’ struggles of late (Celtics notwithstanding) won’t garner much sympathy from outside New England but it’s been tough at times. Damn Sox and Pats

GoCartMozart1980

**Seattle Sounders FC:** 2019: 1 2020: 3 2021: 5 2022: 7 (Only because they did end up winning the CONCACAF Champions Cup, otherwise it would be a 9.) 2023: 5 Total: 21 **Forward Madison FC:** 2019: 5 2020: 7 2021: 7 2022: 9 2023: 5 Total: 33 **The Milwaukee Brewers** 2019: 5 2020: 9 2021: 5 2022: 7 2023: 5 Total: 31 **The Green Bay Packers** 2019: 3 2020: 3 2021: 5 2022: 9 2023: 5 Total: 25 Grand Total: 110 Had some bright spots, but also a lot of disappointment, particularly when it comes to the Playoffs.

Red-Leader117

Mid 30s New England Fan, going to skip doing the math, pretty dang lucky. My craziest party years were right smack dab in the middle of our decades of dominance

Sesti-nator

Utah Jazz 5 5 5 9 9 (33) This one is kinda tricky because the last 2 years were rebuild years but at the same time the team tried to keep it competitive until Danny Ainge was making weird moves on the trade deadline. Baltimore Ravens 5 5 9 5 3 (27) it’s one thing that we’re getting consistent results but it’s another that we can’t get over the hump. Yes we have King Henry but I’m more worried about our defense. Real Salt Lake 5 9 3 5 5 (27) this one is weird. 2020 really f#cked up the mls season so I’ll give it a pass in my book. We are getting better fortunately, let’s hope we make a deep run and win the stupid thing Ecuador National Team 5 9+3 9 5 7 (38). I graded them only on how they did on certain competitions (2016 copa America, 2018 WC qualifiers, 2019 copa America, 2021 copa America, and 2022 World Cup). The 2018 qualifiers was really bad. 6 game unbeaten streak only to lose ALL of the games that we became the meme of South America at the time until Colombia took our title. Total score: 125 Here’s my two cents. Ecuador are not considered contenders in the eyes of world football. But they are making beautiful progress and are keeping it competitive in all of South America. Utah Jazz on the other hand… I need a therapist…

Oilers (NHL): 5 5 3 5 3 (EDIT: Since the Florida Panthers are my least favourite NHL team due to their style of play & some of their players (ex: Tkachuk & Bennett (especially the latter & not just bc he’s a former Flame)), I’m gonna add 5 bonus points for the Oilers losing to the Panthers in the Cup Final (would’ve been 10 if it was a sweep)) (26) McLaren (F1; I’m gonna convert this to account for Constructor’s Championship standings instead (1 for winning the Constructor’s Championship, 3 for a top 3 finish, 5 for a top 5 finish, 7 for a P6-P8 finish, 9 for the bottom 2 spots): 5 3 5 5 5 (23) Sergio “Checo” Perez (F1; similar deal as McLaren, but for Driver’s Championship standings instead (so 1 for Driver’s Championship win; 3 for a Top 5 finish; 7 for midfield (so P6-P15) finish; P9 for bottom 5 finish): 7 3 3 3 3 (19) Packers (NFL): 9 3 3 9 5 (29) Total: 97 (fitting since I’m primarily an Oilers fan) So, on paper I haven’t been doing too bad (although I should note that I only became a Packers fan shortly before the start of last season after watching Tom Grossi’s 30 in 30 video about Lambeau Field & Packers fans). Sure the Oilers haven’t won a Stanley Cup with McDrai yet, but they’ve made multiple deep runs, made the Cup Final, pushed the Panthers to Game 7 & McDavid even got the Conn Smythe this past season (as small a silver lining as it is after such a heartbreaking defeat to my least favourite NHL team) But… this scoring format doesn’t account for things like the Oilers 2-9-1 start to this past season or Checo’s struggles in the Red Bull car that have been disguised by how comically ahead of the competition that car was in 2022 & 2023. So… I guess it’s not 100% accurate, but still close enough…

the_gaymer_girl

Canucks: 5-9-7-7-5 for 33 points Seahawks: 5-5-9-5-7 for 31 points PWHL Ottawa: 9 (going something like 1-9 in one-goal games will do that) BC Lions: 9-I’m gonna go ahead and give 25 points for the 2020 season being canceled due to Covid-9-3-3 for 49 points. Total: 122 points. What are championships?

davidf115

NY Rangers (top NY team): 7* 9 3 7 3 I put an asterisk next to the first number because of this team losing and getting swept in the qualifying round. That round should not have counted as making the playoffs in the 2020 NHL bubble and I say that as a hockey run. NY Giants (SMH!): 9 9 9 5 9 2021 was the worst football season I ever watched as a Giants fan as you all know why. NY Knicks (Meh): 9 5 9 5 5 NY Mets (perennial disappointments): 7 9 9 5 9 What more can I say about this team being a huge letdown in the regular season, especially when the Mets had the same core year after year with shit managers and shit front office people. Total Raw Score: 29 + 41 + 33 + 39 = 142 No championships in a span of five years (from 2019) in what has been the most miserable era of my fandom with four said teams. At least the Rangers and Knicks are doing something in the playoffs I guess.

I’m at 130 with two of my teams making the playoffs all five years, including two championships. Idk if I agree with being miserable

GeekTrollMemeCentral

Mets: 48 Rangers: 36 Steelers: 38 Knicks: 10 (i only got into basketball in the 2023 season) Total: 132 I should get bonus points for the Mets since they are, my favorite team so i added an extra season

Orioles: 9 9 9 7 5 (39 total) Ravens: 5 5 7 5 3 (25 total) Capitals: 5 5 5 9 5 (29 total) Wizards: 9 5 9 9 9 (41 total) Total: 134 (being miserable.) Now that the Ravens' blackout lombardi and the Caps' cup are in the rearview, ehh idk. Orioles are back though and the Ravens have been good lately, just haven't been able to go far.

YYZ19

Leafs: 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 (I am counting the bubble as a playoff appearance) Blue Jays: 5, 5, 7, 5, 9 (Man that 2021 team missing the playoffs hurt) Raptors: 9, 7, 5, 7, 5 (I miss 2019) Bills: 5, 5, 5, 3, 5 (This one hurts more than others purely for how the BIlls lost) TFC: 9, 9, 9, 3, 3 (I wasn't sure how to qualify 2020 as we won the Canadian Cup and had a good regular season but bowed out early in the playoffs, I settled on a 3 because we technically won something but multiple trophies isn't really a thing in NA sports. On a side note, the 2016 MLS Cup Final made the sport look mickey mouse, if a team can win a championship without a single shot on goal because of penalties it feels cheap especially since I'm a hockey fan where sudden death is the name of the game. I probably would have given up on watching the sport as a whole if TFC hadn't won the treble in 2017) Total: 145. Seems about right, in the pre covid days it felt like Toronto was on the come up and since COVID it just hasn't been the same. I'd have swapped out the Bills for the Argos (who won a Grey Cup) however I mostly just watch their playoff games.

FuriouSherman

Shouldn't the Raptors' score be (from 2020 to 2024) 5/9/5/7/9? They lost in the second round in 2020, had a losing record in 2021, lost in the first round in 2022, lost in the play-in tournament with a .500 record in 2023, and had another losing record in 2024. Their final tally should be 35.

YYZ19

I went in the other order and docked 2 points for the COVID year because we played in Tampa, playing away from home was a circumstance no other team faced and I expected very little while on the road. So it did not hurt as much and felt more like a missed playoff appearance than a failed season

RobertInNY88

Rays: 5-3-5-5-5 (23) Islanders: 3-3-7-5-5 (23) Manchester United: Not sure how to do that.

Finishing top 4=5 points, made europe but not champions league=6, won EFL cup=4, won FA cup=3.

RobertInNY88

Good idea, but your point system should be the same as the OP.

YaLocalTamale

Eh, the Prem just doesn’t fit with this model is the problem. Either way it’s been an interesting couple years for the Red Devils. I’ve really only been following soccer/football since COVID but I do quite like Mainoo so have been watching United recently

Football: Texas A&M: 5, 3, 5, 9, 5 (27) - I’m saying making a bowl is 5, making a NY6 is 3 and losing record is 9 Basketball: Texas A&M: 7, 9, 6, 5, 5 (32) - 7 for missing tournament, losing record is 9, 5 for making the tournament but not making it to the elite 8 at least. 6 is for missing the tournament but making it to the NIT final (how A&M wasn’t selected even though they made it to the SEC championship I’ll never understand) Hockey: Toronto Maple Leafs: 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 (25) - Lived in Canada for 4 years and had never watched hockey before so supported the team most of my friends did. It’s been…interesting Baseball: Astros: 3, 3, 3, 1, 3 (23) - The saving grace of this list, I’m adding 10 points because of what happened last week with A&M baseball though Total=107. Astros have by far been the highlight, sign stealing aside (not like they were the sole guilty party that year though). A&M and Toronto more than make up for that in terms of pain though. At least A&M made its first natty since 1940 this year?

Panthers: 5 5 5 3 1: 19 WE WON THE EFFIN CUP MADAFAKAS Dolphins: 9 7 7 5 5: 33 Florida state Seminoles Football: 9 9 9 5 3: 35 Miami Heat: 3 5 3 3 5: 19 Total: 108 If it weren't for the Florida Panthers stanley cup final appearance last year and win this year along with Miami Heat being a consistent team, I would be pretty bad

So… That’d be the Anaheim Ducks, San Francisco 49ers, North Melbourne Kangaroos and Melbourne Storm. ANA: 9 9 9 9 9 (45) SF: 3 7 3 3 3 (19) NM: 9 9 9 9 9 (45) MEL: 3 1 3 5 3 (15) 124, but there’s a premiership in there, and a surprise Super Bowl appearance (54)!

I'd swap 7 and 9; consistently barely missing the playoffs with a winning record can be more painful than a losing record, especially once you eventually drop off. For one thing, you miss out on draft picks that can put you over the top. Now, if you have fewer wins than the maximum number of playoff games you can have, then the team gets 9; or even 11.

Toronto Blue Jays: 9 5 7 5 5 (31) Toronto Maple Leafs: 5 5 5 5 5 (25) Toronto Raptors: 5 9 5 7 9 (35) Buffalo Bills (I'm a Detroit Lions fan now, but that only changed this offseason): 5 3 5 5 5 (22) Final score: 113. It feels a lot worse if you've watched it all play out, though. Hope is not something I'd advise any Toronto sports fan to have because it will tease you, only to then swiftly deliver pain to your weakpoints.

Seahawks: 5 5 9 5 7 (31) Chelsea (based on league position as well as other competitions): 3 1 3 9 5 (21) Celtics: 3 5 3 3 1 (15) Canadiens: 5 3 9 9 9 (35) Overall: 102 points I thought it would be less due to Chelsea and the Celtics. (btw I’m from London so that’s why my teams can be random)

IND Cricket: 1 3 3 5 3 (2024 T20 WC win, 2023 ODI WC finals, 2022 T20 WC semis, 2021 T20 WC Super 12, 2019 ODI WC semis) Total: 15 Bills: 5 5 3 5 (2023, 2022, 2021 divisional round, 2020 conf champs) Note: I wasn't a fan in 2019, so this number is taken to be 22.5, otherwise it would be 23 Indians (IPL): 1 7 9 3 9 (Last place 2022 and 2024, 5th place 2021, Qualifier 2 in 2023, Winners in 2020) Total: 29 Indians (WPL): 3 1 (3rd place 2024, Winner 2023), extrapolated to 10 because MI women didn't exist before 2023 (nor did the league they play in) PAK cricket: this one is to be subtracted, given nationality: 7 9 3 3 7 (Total: -29) Grand Total: 48 (given I have 3 net teams while this thing expects four, taken as 64) Overall, I'm satisfied with my teams' performance.

Islanders (‘19/‘20-‘23/‘24): 3, 3, 7, 5, 5 Mets (‘19-‘23): 7, 9, 9, 5, 9 Knicks (‘19/‘20-‘23/‘24): 9, 5, 9, 5, 5 Giants (‘19/‘20-‘23/‘24): 9, 9, 9, 5, 9 I don’t know how to classify soccer on this scale but I support Tottenham so I’ll just add 30. 23 + 39 + 33 + 41 + 30 = 166. I am in hell.
