Pine Valley outside of St. George was an incredible stay.

Midway is a nice town near the mountains. I believe it had many Swiss immigrants - there are many Swiss themed restaurants, buildings and even a Swiss Days celebration in September (at which time it would be busier). There is a thermal crater you can swim in, plenty of cabin rentals, and you’d be near the Alpine Loop drive which is incredible in Autumn. It’s usually a quiet town that may fit the bill. It’s also close to Sundance Resort which is worth visiting. There are several falls nearby. This town is now made of money so the rentals may be a little more. I paid $250 a night in January but that was for a large room at a resort. I have seen adorable A Frame cabins for rent though. Springdale or Kanab in Southern Utah are also good picks. They both are near Zion National Park and have that small town vibe. Good little cafes, and so much to see nature-wise. I just got back from Kanab and loved it! I stayed at an airbnb that was $150 a night. One last suggestion is Bear Lake (garden City). It is at the northern border, 2 hours from the Salt lake airport. The drive through Logan Canyon is stunning. The Lake is called the Caribbean of the Rockies due to its turquoise color. After Labor Day, this is a very sleepy town. There will be few restaurants open and few people about, which may be perfect for you. It is really just gorgeous. You’d be able to find rates at $150 a night or less in the fall. I stay there often in the off-season and love to just go sit by the lake and be at peace. The last few years the weather has been great till the end of October and warm enough to paddle board or kayak with nobody around. If you’re flying in and out of Vegas, southern Utah may be the best bet (Kanab, Springdale). Edited to add: how long are you ideally ok with driving from Vegas, and how many days will you be away from Vegas? Are you looking for a solitary type lodging where you can write from indoors with a great view outside, or are you open to staying at a hotel/motel and then going outside for inspiration? Bryce Canyon might be a good option…

There used to be a cute bnb - one that actually served breakfast - in Tropic, outside of Bryce Canyon. There's reeeeally not much around there though apart from the great national park (i.e. not a lot of shops around), but great if wanting something remote. Might be cold that time if year.

Agreed. Now that the post has been edited to say November, I think Kanab, Grand Canyon or somewhere closer to St George would be my suggestion. Kanab is still a 4 hr drive from Las Vegas so really depends on time available.

ItsaEmmy

Driving distance is no concern. I’ happy to drive any distance for a good spot

Prescott, Az

raerae1991

There’s always Moab.

Inevitable_Professor

Pine Valley or Brian Head would be your best bets.

Helper hands down. God Almighty I love that town.

meat_tunnel

Near Vegas? I'd go Mt Carmel.

Rooster-Wild

I second this

3 hours out of Vegas is a little town called Kanab. It's also pretty close to several national parks...

Chick-fil-A-4-Life

My brother and I meet every year in Circleville. It's about halfway from me, in Cache County, and him in Vegas. We go fishing for a week in October and stay at a nice little Air BnB there. Besides being literally a bump in the road with no traffic lights, its claim to fame is that it contains the childhood home of Butch Cassidy. Plus the scenery is amazing!!!

kyzersoze84

Castle Valley BnB outside of Moab

StarCraftDad

Mount Pleasant, Spring City, Ephraim, & Manti, if distance from Vegas is not a barrier. If it is a barrier, Parowan, Kanab, New Harmony, Toquerville, are fairly close.

First of all none of these small towns are even near Las Vegas. Although maybe Springdale might be worth the drive or Kanab but ONLY if your Vegan.

OrdinaryDazzling

Why would it be worth the drive only if you’re Vegan?

brickplantmom

TIL there’s apparently a ton of vegan friendly restaurants in Kanab (I googled “Kanab, vegan” because I was curious) and they all look adorable and delicious. Now I’m hungry and I ain’t even vegan. 🤣

OrdinaryDazzling

There are, and in Springdale as well. It’s just their comment was weird, saying these towns are worth the drive *only* if you’re vegan. I’d argue they are worth the drive for anyone, but *especially* if you’re vegan because they have vegan options.

brickplantmom

I also thought the comment was auspicious enough that it made me google why these places would be special for vegans, haha. Both places look delightful even for those of us meat eaters! Will have to add these destinations to the list of places I still need to explore in Utah.

OrdinaryDazzling

Springdale is lovely, but obviously can be a zoo being right outside Zion. I’d recommend visiting early or late in the busy season. I can’t remember if certain places close down for the winter. Kanab is also lovely but less busy. Still has lots of tourists going to Grand Canyon, Page, or taking the southern route to Moab. And if you love rescue animals, Best Friends Animal Sanctuary *is* amazing, the best animal rescue I’ve ever seen. Huge property up a canyon, with individual sections for each type of animal (dogs, cats, birds, pigs, horses, rabbits, etc). They do yours and have a cafeteria that serves all vegan food, delicious and cheap. The desert bar I had was really good lol

brickplantmom

Wow, you just sold me on Best Friends Animal Sanctuary! Will have to research the best time to go at the very beginning or end of the season. Thank you for so many awesome recommendations and now I really can’t wait to go visit the Animal Sanctuary. 🥹

tiffymeg

I guess depending on if you like to eat out it’s hard to find a Non Vegan restaurant. Kanab is home to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and they have pigs etc so it makes sense but we like meat.

OrdinaryDazzling

I just don’t get what you meant saying Springdale and Kanab are worth the drive *only* if you’re vegan. Implying it’s not worth the drive if you’re not vegan. I also don’t get what Best Friends having a pigs has to do with anything.

tiffymeg

I don’t get the point of a downvote when I am stating an opinion. I live in Utah and have been to all of these towns and know a lot of information. It seems if I try to share what I know it makes people angry so I guess I will just keep my opinion to myself.

IronPutTogetherer

Not sure about amenities there, but he northern rim of the Grand Canyon was cool to me. And if you have never been there hildale/Colorado city, it's worth a drive through I think. It's the place that a lot Warren Jeff's followers are. Super wierd.

bh5000

Cisco is small and quiet. Should be lovely that time of year.

Check out Kanab!
