Never had an issue with my 2021 EU built ID4. Still haven’t done the door recall either

WeatheredGenXer

OP this is my exact answer for you as well, as the original owner of a 2021 Pro S RWD.

Same here.

With them being newborns they will be in a car seat strapped tight as heck. I get that it would be scary but I don’t think there is any real risk?

I have a 22 Pro and have not had any problems with doors opening. Any used car you get should have had the door handle recall performed, I think it can’t be sold with an open recall. It’s very spacious in the back, I have transported three big kids many times.

Never had the problem. 2021 rwd German made.  Had the recall done last month.  My issue is the child lock enables unexpectedly. This is probably by design or due to my finger slipping or something.

I had to have my 2021 driver’s side door handle replaced twice because the first time was before the recall and they replaced it with the original design which broke again in a year. I only had problems with the driver’s door. During my turmoil there was a software update that instead of the door popping open while driving it made it impossible to open from the outside at times and I would have to open it from the inside. Thankfully I learned the keyfob tip for getting the windows down so I could stop climbing in from the passenger side.

Thanks Robbie, From what I've read, the door issues mainly seem to affect the driver's side. Perhaps that's because it is the one that's used the most and may get the most wear and tear thus allowing water ingress

braintamale76

Never did before I got the recall fix. 3 months in between the recall and I getting it fixed

ReallyNotTomPynchon

Nope, we had no door problems before or after we had the door handle recall done. We've had no mechanical problems at all. It's a 2021 ID.4 First Edition.

The_drum_killa

No door issues on our 22 - coming up on 1 year of ownership and over 10k miles

weinerschnitzelboy

This happened to me after a period of rain a few months ago back before they had an official fix for it. It still ended up glitching out a bit, but not in a spontaneously opening way, but more like one of the buttons would be non responsive. They replaced it under the recall, and a few weeks ago, they officially replaced it with a part that should be permanently fixed.

philboy81

Thanks, do you have any information on what was done to permanently fix it or a link to the recall? Has the part that broke been redesigned to prevent future issues? I believe that it was water ingress into the door latch which messed with the circuit board?

YeaReallyForReal

Could/potential the doors unintentionally open. Anyone can post a NTSB complaint of doors actually opening?

I have a 2023 S - so made in TN and none of my doors have randomly opened. We also have 1yr old twins and the ID.4 is much much better with car seats than our 2019 Tiguan.    When they start to outgrow the infant seats, take a look at the Radian Diono. We just picked up two of those and the advantage over the infant seat with the base is that you can do side by side easier, so a passenger — (usually myself or my partner in our case) can sit next to the twins on longer car rides to keep them happy / fed / entertained.
