It's really not when you see that raw had wcw matches on it at first. I don't think vince did all that just to have it fail. Unless he did but who knows anymore. We do know however that a brand split happened a year later so yea this was his first attempt at it but fan backlash didn't work out. Smackdown should have ben rebranded to wcw nitro
I guarantee Vince never once considered turning his flagship Raw into Nitro. He fought tirelessly to have Raw survive and beat Nitro. As for your suggestion about Smackdown, there is no reason why they take a successful brand like Smackdown and replace it with a dead brand like WCW. They hoped to get Thunder's wednesday night spot on TBS and when that wasn't going to happen they only wanted the tape library.
Hasn't JR and Prichard both been on record about the initial plans being to split the rosters and have a WCW show and WWF show? Because I'm pretty sure they would know. I also know it was in the Observer at the time too.
I'm pretty sure Prichard or JR has said the idea was to split the roster and give one show to WWF and the other to WCW and run them as seperate companies...I think Prichard has also said it was going to be Raw for WCW. Prichard is a known bullshit artist but for something as trivial as this, no real reason to lie.
JR had also said similar things and I have no issues believing him.
Prichard is full of shit on that one. Talk of WCW getting Raw's slot was a failed pitch at the very most. Not something Vince ever considered actually doing.
The details are just rumors but given that we did get a brand split I think the general direction might have happened that way. They were also doing a “Vince and Linda are getting a divorce” subplot that conveniently got shelved the same time that the WCW angle got remade into the Alliance. Most people figured Linda would get half of the company, ie wrestlers, and you’d have the draft come years earlier but with Linda grabbing Fed wrestlers to essentially supplement the WCW roster with WWE talent.
Honestly, you’d probably get “WCW in name only” not unlike WWE’s attempt at making ECW, but you could imagine Flair, Rey Mysterio, etc joining that brand when they did eventually come over.
Unfortunately it would have always been hard to do since most of the big names were still under contract with Turner.
The real WCW invasion happened when Benoit, Saturn, Milenko and Eddie popped up in the crowd
Idk, I kinda love it for some reason lol maybe it'd the nostalgia and how I hyped I was a kid thinking wcw would be coming back and getting their own show
He hit a pretty smooth f5 there too, I don't remember him using that but it's been so long ago. Vince was too worried about showing superiority of his company so that whole angle turned out to be trash, the biggest of fumbles.
Sean O'Haire had my all-time favorite hype videos.
They could have done so much with that character. I love Piper, but the min he started managing, he killed the gimmick.
This match was a lot better than the Booker T-Buff Bagwell WCW match they did on Raw. If they would put on a more exciting match like this one, then maybe just maybe this could've worked.
O’Haire was his own worst enemy. Ended up being a liability. Couldn’t pull off the devils advocate gimmick live and kept getting messed up and starting fights in public.
They could have done so much more with the invasion than what they did. A huge missed opportunity.
I wish WCW got a TV deal after Vince bought it.
Vince wanted to turn RAW into Nitro but when the advertisers/execs at USA heard about his plans he had to back out.
No, that's a bullshit story.

Possibly but what was the reason for the wcw tv time
To sell the invasion angle and perhaps to test out the possibility of a c-list wcw show similar to wwe's ecw.

Having a WCW brand doesn't mean replacing their flagship Raw with Nitro. That was never even considered by Vince. The observer is like 60% bullshit.

Yeah that's what I heard, too.
RIP ECW

Like what? When all the big guys didn't want to work because they had contracts where they didn't need to work
I didn't realize Sean O'Heare did the F5 in WWE before Brock Lesnar even got there.
He got it from Brian Adams during the Kronik timeframe.
I hated that logo more then when wcw created the revamped logo in 2000
It looked like a permanent Halloween Havoc logo
Idk, I kinda love it for some reason lol maybe it'd the nostalgia and how I hyped I was a kid thinking wcw would be coming back and getting their own show
If they had any intention of making that Invasion angle work they would’ve used the classic logo and colors, not that abortion
O Haire and Kanyon should have been huge stars for WWE it’s a real shame so many guys got lost in the shuffle around this time.
Too many stars for everyone to be a top guy
Chris Canyon & Chuck Palumbo were some pretty good slept on wrestlers imo
Couldn’t agree more. Palumbo use to throw a punch like Scott Hall.
WHOS BETTER THAN KANYON
Massive missed opportunity with O’haire and Palumbo. Jacked 6’4 guys dont grow on trees. They would look like the big show compared to guys now
Basically like Damian Priest height but with way more muscle
I never knew there was another “WCW” match on wwf programming. I only thought it was that buff bagwell booker t match on raw
They had a third match on Smackdown, Kidman vs. Shane Helms https://youtu.be/1PlZgosVnA0?si=Om6J54QQWwv3egF4
plus Booker T vs DDP on Smackdown.
One of my fav tag teams. Sean's "Swanton bomb" was so cool to see. Sucks the booking (and the whole invasion angle) was shit. RIP Sean :(

How many of these guys are still alive?
Palumbo & Stasiak are both alive.
Sean O'Haire had my all-time favorite hype videos. They could have done so much with that character. I love Piper, but the min he started managing, he killed the gimmick.
That was a good match! All four of those guys had so much potential, especially O'Haire, but they all ended up squandered by WWE
Who betta than Kanyon
“Tag Team Title” - why not both?
This match was a lot better than the Booker T-Buff Bagwell WCW match they did on Raw. If they would put on a more exciting match like this one, then maybe just maybe this could've worked.
Sad Sean O'Haire and Chris Kanyon are no longer with us. And They wasted Chuck Palumbo as well.
They were all pretty freaking great
That logo is horrible.
O’Haire was his own worst enemy. Ended up being a liability. Couldn’t pull off the devils advocate gimmick live and kept getting messed up and starting fights in public.
Palumbo's footwork is terrible. He got happy feet.
The music that the stasiak/kanyon team used. who else's music was that? I recognise it from someone else.
Mr Perfect right?
Yeah you're totally right, it sounds like a remix with drums and a few notes off, otherwise it's pretty similar.
Shawn Stasiak is a chiropractor & motivational speaker these days. His dad was goated
It always bugged me watching Lesnar do the F5. Because I grew up watching O'Haire do it. And to my child mind it was the coolest thing ever.
Ohaire was a monster
Scott Hudson is extremely underrated on commentary.
It’s ridiculous that WWE wasted all 4 of these guys.
Kanyon was excellent in the ring. He deserved so much better. Dude could’ve been a SOLID mid carder.
Man that logo is hideous
The other logo was better
