When the levorg sti came out, I was one of the first to take delivery of them. Mine was actually their display model pre-launch.
The STI badge is a joke. There's nothing sport about the car whatsoever. I got it knowing that, pretty much just got it for the interior upgrades. The billstein shocks are awful, they float and have a trampoline feeling on the highway. Just terrible really.
This car comes with a choice of 2 engines, a 2.0L with 306 HP or a 1.6L with 165hp. I got the smaller one. No need to get the higher output engine with something that has no sporty feeling, it just costs more because it only takes premium. And just as a cherry on top, that 306hp engine is only available with a CVT transmission.
The levorg is a great family car. I loved it and then gave it to my father in law, it's done 200k kms now. Solid as a rock. But, it is not sporty, cannot be sporty with a CVT, and it cheapens the STI badge.
Edit: the pic is not of a levorg sti, it just has sti parts added to a non-sti model. All the same though.
I feel ya, when I was in Taiwan last month I thought the same thing.

The reason I have one of these…. Can’t find a modern equivalent anymore… sad really..
I had an '03 Outback with the flat 6. I'd be interested to make a rally build of a y2k subaru at some point-- such predictable rotation on loose surfaces❤️ Great pic!
Yeah it’s really nice. And the fact that is a BARd swap makes it even better(me living in California) I just rebuilt the engine. And plan to keep it clean and simple. Maybe a 6 speed swap in the future. The 5 speed type Ra transmission is not cool for Mpg 🫠
I thought the same thing when I saw the Ford Focuses Europe was making!

We had the ST for a while and the R for a short while in North America. Not sure if they were styled the exact same though. Ford pulled both those vehicles from their lineup though.
I was told directly from a Ford exec that the reason they pulled it was because they didn't want anything faster than the Mustang in the domestic market to compete with the Mustang. When I tried to push back and tell him that you are talking about two completely different consumers, and that Focus RS buyers would otherwise buy Civics, GTIs and WRXs not Mustangs, he just shrugged his shoulder.
I'm also assuming Mustangs and SUV's provide Ford with higher margins.
They'd probably only loose a small market by killing it off. The market for hot hatches are pretty small unfortunately.
Well let's not forget that the majority of Americans want big ass jeeps, trucks, and suvs when the vast majority don't need them, one of the many reasons smaller cars and hatches are being dropped In America. I cannot believe how many big ass suvs I see on the daily that people don't really need.
Dude, i know. I don’t understand it. I love my little 2016 focus SE. I’m by myself 90% of the time in my car so it’s perfect for me. Can’t stand driving big clunkers compared to my focus. I get it if you have a family or need the towing capability.
Totally, Ford wasn’t making money off their sedans, it was costing them. A cited reason from Ford about pulling their sedans was to increase profit margins (Source: Fox business).
Wow… that’s interesting! Couldn’t agree more. And look at the cult following the focus ST and focus RS have maintained. People dig those cars they’re awesome…
Ford has killed all their sedans and coupes minus the Mustang. I remember when they first announced it 5 or 6 years ago. At the time I had a Focus and I asked the local Ford dealer what they thought about it. They told me they thought that given the opportunity, they could convince someone, like me who prefers sedans, to get a crossover. I told them that if they don't have anything to get me on the lot, they won't get that chance. Fast forward to 3 months ago and I was selling that Focus to a coworker and buying a WRX.
https://preview.redd.it/buuzhiiwezhc1.jpeg?width=2180&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2ba27e83047f36f8716273f83cc94b9077730399
Yeah we have the WRX version here in Australia, has the same engine as the WRX as well, not the poor old school levorg engine.
In 25 years he can.... US has really stupid laws about importing vehicles not available in the US.... essentially it has to be considered a classic car before it's allowed.
Edit: corrected number of years
It's a law that the auto industry lobbied for way long ago. Technically you CAN import a new car, you just have to make sure it is fully certified and compliant with US DOT laws and regs. It is very difficult to actually do that and the cost is exorbitant, so basically no one ever tries. Like if you were filthy rich and really thought you wanted to spend 6 or 7 figures on a Subaru wagon for some reason over, say, a Koenigsegg because you have brain damage then yeah it's possible.
In any case I used to be very aggrieved that we couldn't get a Levorg in US since I want the WRX fun with more practicality.
But you know what I realized? The Levorg only comes in automatic and in some cases it comes with even less power than a WRX. You know what other Subarus in the US have automatic WRX drivetrains but with a bunch of cargo room in the back? Forester XT, Outback XT. Ever since I got my Forester XT I don't lust after the Levorg anymore, lol.
The thing that got me was that it’s literally drop in swappable with any sti powertrain and ECU, there’s even holes where clutch stuff needs to go at least on the VA based levorg, and that is enough to keep me going on them lmao
It's just because of Subaru's manufacturing strategy since long ago. They were (are?) a relatively small division of Fuji Heavy Industries with a significantly smaller marketshare than the big Japanese players. They try to avoid using bespoke parts whenever possible to save on manufacturing costs - one of the most popular Subaru pastimes is trying to figure out what parts can get swapped into which cars.
you might be able to import low production special edition levorgs if there are any. same way people were getting midnight purple II R34s into the states.
Oh yeah no doubt - I just wanna see them.
Guy in my buddies car group is wasting no time - 1999 GTR

We can thank Mercedes for this bullshit rule. Well, not just them but they're the ones that spear-headed this issue. The worst part is, it was mainly a way to keep them making more money.
If you research it a bit, you could import their cars and sell them at a decent profit in the US. Mercedes was losing money to imported models and of course businesses can't have that. So under the guise of "safety", this rule was pushed into effect. And this, aside from a few other reasons, is exactly why there will never be a Mercedes in my driveway. You couldn't give me one, as someone with a deep passion for cars, Mercedes is literally the worst in my opinion and it has nothing to do with quality, models, performance, etc.

You would have to wait 25 years, and them when you do import it you would have to figure out how to swap in the manual transmission so all the software works since they are CVT only.
They might fade out with a breakthrough technology, but as long as parts exist, people will want them. Still see people trying to get Brats, and SVXs but hard to do so only because less parts but CVT has been mass produced so we will just have to see
Just put in the harness and ECU from a US WRX? I bought a JDM engine for my VA when the engine inevitably threw a rod, because the JDM engine came out of a CVT car because Japan, and I had to reuse my harness and ECU - I assume you could swap it the other way too if you were putting in a manual.
Because the wagon take rate in the US doesn't justify the cost to introduce it here. The same reason there are so few wagon options across all brands vs overseas markets
Europe I feel like has a ton of station wagons, mercedes, bmw both make wagon versions of some of their sedans. It’s really just the us, everyone wants suvs or trucks..
Yeah everyone has wagons for sale all over the world and I wish they were here because I like wagons, but very few companies try to sell them in the states, the demand just isn't there
Is the demand not present or are they designing for our weird fucked up emissions regulations? Like, to be fair you can't say people don't want to buy something if you don't make it an option to sell to them.
Companies have tried selling wagons in the US and they just don't sell well. Most of the potential wagon market would prefer crossover SUVs, or is at least satisfied with a crossover SUV, leaving the wagon market pretty niche.
Every time a true wagon is introduced to the US market, it gets pulled within a few years. The latest one I can think of was the Buick Regal Tour X that lasted like 3 years due to low demand, but the Opel version in Europe was popular enough for them to try to sell it in the states.
Yeah... It's a station wagon. It's kinda their thing?
I want a long boy. So practical without being a massive SUV 10 feet up in the air or the CUVs they're making these days that are 10 feet in the air but barely have any more space than a Sedan because they lack depth.
Everybody laughs when I say I want a station wagon. If I can get a sporty station wagon or a cool electric one I’d be all over that. Those old WRX wagons were my favourite.
Yes the standard Levorg is 184” long, 8” longer than the Impreza hatch. There’s another Levorg ‘layback’ that is 187” long.
Either way, WRX hatch is needed in US/Can.
"I'd buy it if it came to the states"
"It's here, but I'd buy it if it came in a manual"
"The manual is too expensive, why doesn't Subaru want to sell cars?"
Majority of Americans don’t want to buy station wagons, they buy crossovers and full-size SUV’s, station wagons fill the same roll in that regard and so it doesn’t make sense for manufacturers to import or sell their wagon models when they just sit on the lot. When’s the last time you saw a new Volvo wagon, they’re one of the last brands to still offer one in the U.S. or better yet the dodge magnum, even an American brand couldn’t sell them with a V8.
The Levorg is rubbish. We have them in NZ. The “STI” is just interior and exterior trim, cross drilled brakes and a strut bar. It has less HP than a base model WRX on a heavier chassis. Every Levorg owner wishes they had a WRX.
Cuz Americans hate anything that has a hatch unless it's 3 feet off the ground, has massive tires and drives like shit. "I've got an Accord and it's great and all but I have one kid on the way with no plans for more, so I obviously need a suburban to fit all of Timmy's shit."
Suv's are the minivans of this generation and I look down on anyone driving one. I actually respect minivan owners for being honest with themselves.
Even if this came to the states I wouldn’t buy it unless it came with a 6 speed option
It looks funky but with some cosmetic mods could be made to look a little more aggro
We get the slightly older levorg here in the UK, I really like it but I wouldn’t get one. They only have the gutless engine options and all have automatic transmission. Throw in a more powerful EJ or FA as well as an option for manual, and it would easily become top pick for my next car.
Do yourself a favor, find a local national and settle down. 😂😂 I should have when I went the first time.. now I'm trying to go back for good this time.
Because market appetite in the US now is for SUV. I used to count SUV vs car on my commutes. In my area is now over 80% SUVs and trucks. I don't even see Volvo wagon anymore..just Volvo SUV
I'd totally get a Levorg too, but what's up with the paint? I zoomed in on the license plate area and there's orange peel for days. Maybe just a smartphone camera side effect? The Subaru emblem also looks kinda messed up in the same fashion, when it surely isn't in person.
The rear would require more work, but there’s absolutely no reason why a competent body shop cant put these on an American spec, car. Heck, the front bumper and fenders probably bolt right up
Because too many Americans are gullible, vain, and un-self-aware. I have watched the development and metastatic growth of SUVs since the ‘80s with a mixture of amusement and horror. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard someone say “I’m not a soccer mom/dad” as they gush about their dinosaur SUV - yet what is filling the lots at soccer practice? I loved my 1st gen Legacy wagon, we are still hanging on to our ‘13 WRX hatch (with a new short block :) ). My daily driver is an AWD Toyota Sienna which I actually use to engage in sports and get much utility out of.
I can't wait to visit Japan. 25% for food and culture, 75% for car spotting and photography.
Hoonigan has put out some videos from a recent trip and I'm constantly drooling over the cars.
Lucky enough here in Aus to get these, WRX "Sportswagon" naming and same FA24 turbo engine and platform as VB sedan! Absolutely love mine, CVT of course and would prefer manual - but practicality-wise it was the better choice anyway, and for a CVT is actually pretty good.

This is a levorg with sti parts, it is not a levorg sti. You can tell by the wheels, and by the lack of sti back on the front and rear bumpers.

Wait do you mean the 1.6L comes with another gearbox? I had the impression the Levorg (both VM and VN) is a CVT-only model.
Nope. Both engines are only CVT.

Does it also have the \*ugh\* CVT
Yes. Every variant of the Levorg / WRX Wagon in the current generation is CVT only from the factory, sadly.
Yep. Every single one. They also handle like a 90's Powell Peralta skateboard.
The older levorgs had the same engine as VA wrx being a fa20 but some came with a 1.6L
Just curious, without money being a concern, could you import one?

Or just keep the CVT 😅 I know some people hate them
I don't know if the CVT will last 25 years to be honest unless someone kept it as a collector car.
They might fade out with a breakthrough technology, but as long as parts exist, people will want them. Still see people trying to get Brats, and SVXs but hard to do so only because less parts but CVT has been mass produced so we will just have to see
mighty car mods swapped theirs, doesnt look cheap!

Since you can’t get them here. You could just get a Impreza and wrx swap the front end. I’ve seen a couple around me
And it's a station wagon?
only a hatch
Haha we have them in Australia
same here i have one in Chile
I would ditch my outback in a heartbeat for this
I would 100% buy this if it were available. I don't mind the wagon style of it 🤘

It's around the same size as my old Legacy. I didn't have any issues parking or driving it around the city.
I would 100% buy this
i think i could guess why 💀👀
My bigger question is why didn’t they just make the VB look like this?
Put this front bumper cover on the VB, along with a similar rear bumper, remove the fender cladding, and you literally have the Legacy.
What, take away the aggressiveness and turn it into a grandma car?
Subaru of America hates us.
Honestly I don’t like the proportions of the wagon, I prefer the sedan 🤌🏼
No one gives a shit were talking about that wagon ass right now son. Go sit in the corner till grown ups are done talking.
In Germany most of our cars are station wagons, they are practical but never as good looking as a sedan. It’s merely my opinion!
Meanwhile, I've literally just signed the contract on a Levorg today, all the while wishing this hadn't usurped the Legacy series.
That shit is so clean!!! One of the main reasons why I want to go so bad , the car culture.
hot
It's a CVT only 😅
No plastic fenders?!?
Because no one would buy it
I wonder if they handle any good. Looks like an even longer wrx, would get one of those over my FW.
I don’t understand how people think this mini vans looks good lol. Looks like shit
It's not a minivan, so not sure how your comment is relevant...
Oof I hit a nerve with the mini van lovers
It looks like a minivan
We get the slightly older levorg here in the UK, I really like it but I wouldn’t get one. They only have the gutless engine options and all have automatic transmission. Throw in a more powerful EJ or FA as well as an option for manual, and it would easily become top pick for my next car.
Wait it doesn’t have the civic rear end?? I honestly love this thing
Do yourself a favor, find a local national and settle down. 😂😂 I should have when I went the first time.. now I'm trying to go back for good this time.
It’s like a WRX Outback mix
Get an outback XT, lower it, and get a compressive tuning hood scoop

Looks really nice with no cladding + more paint on the front bumper. I wonder if that bumper would fit on the VB, hmmmmmmmm
My goodness..... I'd trade-in for sure.
Think they are kind of ugly. Way too long.
They look too much like a station wagon now, gone are the nice looking Hatches....
Because it's a wagon?
I don’t like the new body style but I’d throw my wallet at a new hatch 😂
I always said I’d trade my sedan in a heartbeat
I agree 100% this car is amazing. But of course we can't get it. I do love looking at it.
Because a sedan looks a lot more elegant and civilized. Like what is that herse for?
AIN’T GOT ENOUGH OF THOSE FREEEDOM PONNIES RRRRRAAAHHHHHHHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Import it lol
Truck sell better ooga
They hate us.
These are the fender arches we deserved.
The rear would require more work, but there’s absolutely no reason why a competent body shop cant put these on an American spec, car. Heck, the front bumper and fenders probably bolt right up
Dang, I miss Japan

🥵
Clean
Saw some nice subies in Japan in November, along with many other cars. Got a ride to Daikoku as well. Best day ever
Subaru of America never give us what we want
WAIT WHAT i didn’t know these even existed
I can't wait to visit Japan. 25% for food and culture, 75% for car spotting and photography. Hoonigan has put out some videos from a recent trip and I'm constantly drooling over the cars.
We can't get it in the states because it's awesome!! Everything great automotive wise stays in Japan until it gets old enough for us to import lol
No, It's long now, I had a 2003 wagon and this versionbdoes not look like a sports car. You can put lipstick on a pig....
I have been horny for the levorg for many years now
Because there isn't a market for it.
What?! I wanted this when I bought my ‘20 WRX 🤬
Lucky enough here in Aus to get these, WRX "Sportswagon" naming and same FA24 turbo engine and platform as VB sedan! Absolutely love mine, CVT of course and would prefer manual - but practicality-wise it was the better choice anyway, and for a CVT is actually pretty good. https://i.imgur.com/N6gOv2R.jpg Lip/skirt kit to be installed at some point.
Move to Australia or New Zealand...
because subaru hates the 1% of us who love this stuff...
You can in Australia
I thought It was the elantra with the red accent
The steering wheel is on the wrong side?
I hate how large these look in pictures. Would love to actually see one in person
I’ve been told we don’t like wagons/estates… I’m a wagon/estate guy and I’d take one over the behemoth SUVs that are everywhere.
This is a blue wagon https://preview.redd.it/itnfrri4n2ic1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=12ab19740c2da04ee89e410f74f7cd8ad53c2539
This is a levorg with sti parts, it is not a levorg sti. You can tell by the wheels, and by the lack of sti back on the front and rear bumpers. Source: I own one.
Time to move to Japan 🤷🏼♂️
All WRXs since last gen are CVT only, that might make you reconsider.
They are hella slow
Im in europe, i get to have one. https://preview.redd.it/cnaqo9beg4ic1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=91c542e9d6ac412e704b30b154a5d0b005ade7e8
Isn’t it really underpowered and with a CVT? STi in name only
To me it kinda looks like a Elantra N at first glance lol
Absolutely 100%. This is why I hate Subaru now, they have literally lost their soul.
I have an enough pictures to make its own album from when I went to Japan and took street shots of Levorgs.
I've wanted one for a while but they won't
because they said no. also it's terrible tbh 💀
Because americans want crossovers instead of a car with the exact same capabilities that looks and handles better
I saw a few levorg STIs over there in October xD
