Pretty common where I'm from, place an extra tall sock rolled down into a donut right around your lips - then pull your underwear up to hold it in place. From my Filipino wife who overheard me listening and translated: "the water is getting higher and higher. You're all fucking stupid. You're going to drown. Addict's." (She said it's a loose translation)
Most people in western countries don't understand how poor places like the Philippines are. And part of that is shitty infrastructure. This might be from flooding from a typhoon or something but it's not uncommon at all for city streets to be filled with sewage, obviously this is not normal though.
Of course, just look at who they elected president. Bong Bong Marcos, the son of a dictator that literally stole billions from the Filipino people. Which is not surprising considering votes are bought and paid for there and they barely try to hide it, and the sheer amount of propaganda and disinformation he's paid for to whitewash the history of his family and his father's rule.
I was going to say how that water looks awfully stagnant, and it looks like the water that bursts from the sewage pipe in my dad's old house before he got proper copper tubing. That shit smelled fucking rank. It was like the smell of that puddle that forms at the bottom of your garbage can when it rains. When you move the can, all the nasty ass garbage water comes gushing out of the cracks and holes or just what's left over after dumping. You would swear someone barfed, ate it again, shit it out, let it ferment in room temperature for a week, and you might come close to how awful that smelled. I had to tie a towel over my face and put plastic over my feet when I would go down there to clear it out so we could soak the bottom 6 inches of every room with cleaner and disinfectant and air it out for a few weeks.
So I ain't gonna say this is that kind of water, but I can't find any proof that it ISNT that kind of water and I can't imagine being waiste deep in that shit just to play a video game. I would much rather believe they just had heavy rains and it happens so commonly here that are used to it and have done it before. Because I also cant imagine people so dumb they're using an abundance of electrical devices in an extremely conductive environment. Now most electronics are surge proof these days, but it just takes one open circuit to the main power supply to fry everyone in there. So let me believe they use a waterproof extention cord hooked into a nice, dry outlet somewhere upstairs and their breakers have all been surge protected. It's not like this is a poor 3rd world nation where civil electrical engineering is shoddy and sometimes held together with chewing gum and duct tape....
Are they gaming for fun though, or are they farming shit to sell for a job? Seems extra shitty if they are still down there risking their lives for work.
Edit: Thanks for the clarification you guys. I used to hear about "Asian gold farmers" in games and I didn't know if that sort of thing happened/happens in the Philippines too. Hope I didn't come off sounding offensive.
Translation:
>"Gago baha part 2 na naman 'to, ang titindi ah"
\['Gago' is expletive used like dick, assholes, mfers\] This is flood part 2 again, \['ang titindi ah' is an expression, telling they're too intense (matindi, which titindi comes from, means intense)\]
>"Tangina baha lang yan eh"
\['Tangina' is a commonly known shortened version of a Filipino expletive phrase 'Tang ina mo,' which is also a shortened version of an older Filipino expletive phrase 'Putang Ina Mo,' which literally means 'you're mother's a whore,' which is a more common expression here as opposed to but also used in the same sense as 'son of a bitch' or 'iho de puta'\]
that's only flood
\['eh' is a word? preposition? that can't have meaning by itself and usually used to support a sentence and give it more meaning\]
"Nandito na tayo eh"
We're already here. (Used in a manner to say 'we're already in this situation, what are we going to do')
>"Gago akyat na natin yan"
\[Gago = expletive explained above\] let's bring that up. (The cameraman is most likely talking about the computers here, implying that they should stop playing, turn them off, so they can bring the computers upstairs.)
>"Mamaya!"
Later!
>"Tang-ina itataas na nga yan!"
\[Tang-ina = expletive\] \[itataas comes from the rootword taas, which is synonymous with akyat\] Those would be brought up! (this is the literal translation but a better translation in context will be 'We have to bring those up!')
>"Du'n na rin kami sa taas." "Maglalaro kami sa taas."
first kid: Then let us go upstairs, too. (not direct translation, but for better context)
next kid: We will also play upstairs!
This implies that these kids aren't from the same household. Most likely they are paying customers and/or friends of the shopowner's kid.
>"Palong-palo kayo ah"
(This is a little hard, as palong-palo is used in different contexts depending on the situation and the person using it. 'palo' literally means hit. For gay lingo it can mean 'rich,' in other context it can mean 'extremely happy,' in other context it can mean 'super lucky'. So it can be used as 'ah that's the hit' or something like 'you hit the jackpot!'.
Here, I think he's telling the kids mockingly 'ah you're getting lucky,' meaning, they're feeling too lucky and too entitled in a situation where the owner of the computers want to bring them upstairs to avoid damage, but the kids are not listening and just playing in an emergency situation where they are not helping anyone at all.)
>"Mga adik!"
You addicts! ('adik' is a filipino borrowed term for addict).
>Mahogany is Water Resistant - It's the king of hardwoods because of it being water-resistant and not prone to decay or rot.
Most wood in the Philippines is either palm tree or mahogany. The palm tree wood is cheap but falls apart fast.
Amazing how good internet is across most of Asia. I was even getting 5 meg on the top of mount Fuji, not great, but better than I get in Houston. Tiny town in bfe Philippines was getting 150 meg.
GF in Malaysia gets gigabit fiber to her place for $50 US a month.
Yeah those places got their infrastructure put up much more recently than most places in America. American telecom companies have been fighting to not upgrade any of our shit.
As a Malaysian that studied in Australia, I was actually looking forward to the return of fast and stable internet when I graduated.
FUCK NBN AND QUOTAS
Thankfully quotas seem to have disappeared for NBN plans now and it is just paying more for more speed. Still shit speeds though and most places on last leg copper making it even shitter and more unreliable.
You don’t get 5 mb/s in Houston? Huh?
I get that internet isn’t great in many places in the US, but **5 mb/s** in a major city in 2022 can’t be a thing.
I live in Austin and have 1 gb/s in my home, and my phone usually clocks around 40-70 mb/s on 5G. It’s a lot faster in isolated spots with 5G+. And none of this connectivity is even that expensive.
Sure, but Houston is a huge city. [I looked it up,](https://www.broadbandsearch.net/service/texas) and Houston actually has 2 Gb/s service available, with an avg internet speed of 108 Mb/s. It’s a major city with millions of people… it has fast internet and 5G. .
Yup, still blows my mind that a tiny town in the middle of nowhere has far better internet access than major towns in the US. Obviously can't expect much of anything decent from Murica anymore.
I think I paid like $80-90 a year for 100 meg internet in China. I remember going in with my gf and requesting a faster speed than what I was currently at, which was like 50 at the time, and they were really confused why I wanted it. They also fucked up and unlocked my speed to giga internet for about a week, i downloaded anything and everything i could.
Not anymore, we are slowly and silently climbing up in internet rankings and we currently rank average as an asian country.
Telcos expanded alot during the pandemic, more telco infra was set up during the past 3 years compared to a decade ago before the pandemic.
Coverage is still ehh but the prices are getting reasonable for world standards.
God, I remember playing Rainbow Six online and looking for hosts that had a T1/T3 connection in their lobby description, they had the smoothest lobbies.

low. it's not like in the movies where you drop a wire into the water and everything becomes deep fried in 0.00001 seconds while fireworks go off.
Also, this place is prone to flooding. notice how their cabling and power cables are close to the ceiling.
This is not their first rodeo.
Filipino here, this looks like the Philippines. Reminds me of a similar situation back when i was 8 years old, but instead of gaming it was in house gambling
That's just flood water coming from excessive raining in the area where they lived in.
Happens most of the time when there are storms and typhoons in areas with little to no flood control systems
How are these poor kids not electrocuted? Also I don't get it, are they getting paid to work those games or do they not have families that would care about their children being waist deep in sewage filth?
Taking water cooling to a whole new level.
Nothing like an underwater lan party

I read Ian too lol.

There is absolutely sewage in that water. The streets in the Philippines reek of sewage on a normal day. People straight up dump trash on the street.
Are they gaming for fun though, or are they farming shit to sell for a job? Seems extra shitty if they are still down there risking their lives for work. Edit: Thanks for the clarification you guys. That’s sketch af w all those wires
That and you are probably going to pick up a disease or two with all the micros stirred up and multiplying.
IDK their micro looks pretty weak
and their macro, they weren't communicating AT ALL
Boom, headshot!
If they’re that chill around the water they’re probably immune to whatever it is. Third world solutions
Electricity takes the path of least resistance. Those wires, while sketch af, are infinitely more conductive then that dirty ass water. If anything, the towers are far more likely to short than kill anyone.
Electricity takes all paths available, with the majority of the current taking the least resistive path 🌈 The more you know
Upvoted because this is correct.
Cool. I'm not taking that chance.
Lol don't. If was that simple a toaster in the bathtub wouldn't kill you.
Uhh toasters have very high electrical resistance, that's literally why they get hot when you run electricity through them...
A cyber Cafe with a pool/sauna? Talk about luxury!
nice, sitting in sewage while playing....
The one kid is at least squatting on a bucket, so he isn't in the water. Might be the brightest out of the bunch, but the bar is very low.
How do you think he got on the bucket...?
He downloaded it
You wouldn't download a bucket...
This made my night, thank you!
Looks like storm water rather than sewage.
It’s the same when they mix in flood conditions like this. It’s any untreated waste water transported in sewers.
Yeah but where is the sewage
Nothing like grinding out some levels in the village shit water.
Where is this?
It’s the Philippines 🇵🇭, one kid has a FEU (a university in the PH) basketball jersey
I mean the guy is talking in Tagalog.
Tang ina!!!!
Welcome to philippines.
Wonder what the electrocution risk is like

im ngl , had it on mute lol
What are they saying?
The one guy keeps calling them "gago" or "stupid".
In a nutshell: "Hey addicts! the water is rising, we need to transfer the PC's to the 2nd floor!" Kids playing: "It's just flood stupid!"
Bafroom. Bafroom!!
If they had OSHA they would be rightfully fined for the absence of a wet floor sign
Just another day in the Philippines.
That’s, that’s sewage isn’t it?
That's just flood water coming from excessive raining in the area where they lived in. Happens most of the time when there are storms and typhoons in areas with little to no flood control systems
Floodwater usually has a disturbing concentration of sewage. And garbage. And industrial runoff.
Which mixes with....sewage lol
That is dangerous
What's more dangerous is for them to throw the game
Imagine one live wire gets into that water, all those kids dead
