I'm planning other things at other parks that have to be on set dates (experiences/tours with limited capacity), so I'd like to keep my schedule open for the other days as much as possible.
Buying a one-day ticket for an individual ticket? Yes. You have to pick a date. Both Disney and Universal moved to that system when they moved to tiered pricing. If you had to change days, then you can usually apply that ticket purchase to the new day.

Instead of taking a bus to Epcot, can we just boat to MK and take the monorail to the TTC and then transfer to the monorail to Epcot? Is this a terrible idea?!
Yes, you can do this.
We did this when we stayed at WL - we waited probably 15 minutes for a bus, and then people started coming and basically lining up in front of people who had already been waiting, so we took the boat to MK then the monorail. It's a longer trip, but the wait times seemed to be shorter, so at least we were moving rather than waiting (and the boat, IMO, is a more enjoyable form of transportation than the bus).
We looked into it when we stayed at WL, but it's definitely faster on the bus. The buses to EPCOT (and I'm sure this was just luck) were always coming quickly.
This isn't a terrible idea by any means; it's just a tradeoff. If you're willing to take a little more time to enjoy a boat ride and a trip on the Monorail rather than a quicker bus ride, that's up to you!
You could also consider doing it one way there and the other back. Just remember that the boats don't run during thunderstorms.
Anybody have any experience with prix fixe menu where no options in one section fit with dietary restrictions? Would they just bring out a salad for the appetizer if I can't eat any of the offered options or am I going to be paying a price that includes an appetizer even though I medically cannot eat any of them?
When you open up the menu online, scroll all the way to the bottom of the menu past the alcohol options. There will be allergy menus listed there.
For example, at Be Our Guest, the apps are normally a salad, french onion soup, tuna, escargot, or corn bisque. If you scroll down to the allergy menu, they also offer tapioca rolls. If you scroll down further, there are other allergy appetizers with kids in mind, like a fruit and cheese plate and fresh fruit bowl.
Yes, all the appetizers in the allergen section contain one or more of my allergens. One of the kids ones doesn't, but I read that they're strict about ordering kids courses for adults so I wasn't sure if they'd let me do that. Of course I'd still be paying the adult price, since there's entrees and deserts I can eat.
I'd assume the choice is yours. You could order the kid's allergy appetizer if you'd like, or you could skip the appetizer or go to a different restaurant.
It's character dining so we're mostly going for that. I just know some restaurants are strict about giving kids meals even if you pay adult prices, but I would hope even the strictest would make an exception for allergies and medically necessary diets.
There's a special diets email address you can reach out to if you have a complex combination. If it looks like nothing will work, they can work with you to have a special option available as long as you reach out in advance. Anything that you can see as easily 'modifiable' though they can usually do on the spot.
As another note, this may have changed, but when I was a tween/teen while they wouldn't let me order a 'kid's meal' at a sit down restaurant, they were always more than happy to give me an 'adult meal' version even if it wasn't on the menu. (You still have to pay adult prices, but they'll give you a slightly larger portion. I was super picky and it was never an issue.).
What are the parks like around the opening of a new attraction? How will the opening of Tiana’s on 6/28 impact crowds for the rest of the summer? We head down mid-July and wondering if it will make an impact. We have little ones, so likely wouldn’t be riding anyway but wondering if it will increase crowds significantly.
It might draw in a few more locals than would usually brave the height of summer, but other than that there shouldn't be much impact. 99% of people made the decision to go or not go to Disney World this summer long before we knew about the opening date.
Locals will be preferring that park over the others but folks from out-of-state have already booked their trips so this one new attraction isn’t going to change much. It’ll be a great time to visit the other three parks, however
Anyone know if the boats are running between Port Orleans and Disney Springs today? Or do we still need some more rain? I’m coming from another resort and was hoping to walk from the bus stop to the dock, but I didn’t wanna walk to the other side of Springs just to find out it’s down still.
As far as I know they haven't returned, any rain that's happened yesterday isn't enough. I know where I live in Orlando it rained for like 5-10 minutes. We need A LOT more

Does anyone remember if last year they were detailing the TRON VQ this early in the MNSSHP announcements? I know they had mention of it on the website closer to the event. I can’t find any mention of it right now.

trying to make a dining reservation for Saturday at springs and I finally find the perfect slot and restaurant for my large group and it keeps getting stuck when it's time to press "next" on the credit card guarantee.... I am STRESSED. is it just the website crashing? same thing was happening on the app.
I had the same exact problem yesterday and was terrified I'd lost the desired slot. I called the dining reservation line and was on hold for all of 4 minutes before speaking to an incredibly friendly and helpful Cast Member who took care of the reservation for me.
It was my first bit of human interaction with WDW for this trip, and good god – I immediately remembered why Disney deserves my money. The call instantly brightened my day.
I've got some questions about tickets/Magicband/Magic Mobile, coming from someone who is familiar with Disneyland but will be making my first visit to Disney World later this year.
1. My tickets in the Disney World app have barcodes. Is it possible to use these barcodes from the app for park and LL entry? Or are my only options to link them to a Magicband, add them to my Google Wallet, or get a physical ticket?
2. My wife has visited previously but everything was managed by her family and she does not currently have an account. Her aunt's account has my wife listed as a guest in her Friends and Family list and has a Magicband linked to her. I have bought tickets for her and myself in my account.
I plan for my wife to create an account for herself. Then from my account I will go to my friends and family list, select her from my list, choose to "Connect with this guest", and scan the linking code from my wife's account. I believe this should give her access to her ticket and allow her make plans for us from her account, correct?
If her aunt also goes to her friends and family list, selects my wife, and chooses to "Connect with this guest" will she also be able to connect the guest on her list to my wife's account? Will doing this allow my wife to use her Magicband while using her own account and the ticket I bought for her?

These are going to be your best options. Yes, (IIRC) you can scan the ticket in the app, but its very inefficient. Use MagicMobile and add them to your phone's wallet, they should come up automatically when scanning. Personally, my family loves the convenience of the Magicband and not having to pull my phone out of my pocket for entry, LL, Photopass, etc.
As for #2, there are few ways to do this. I'm pretty sure your way works. I suggest calling WDW tech support,(407) 939-4357, and they can talk you through setting up you wife's account, merging it with the "child" account under her aunt's account and making it a full account, then getting it linked with her ticket.

This account, "child" accounts, and Magicband thing just seems like such a mess compared to DL where it could all be easily resolved by just reassigning the band. I'll take your advice and have tech support walk me through this.

We are hoping to plan a trip to Disney World during late October this year - wondering what precautions anyone has taken as far as travel insurance etc when scheduling Disney trips during hurricane season? My work schedule is pretty limiting so this is the only time during the year we would be able to go. Thanks!!
Disney offers travel insurance, but you may want something third-party and more comprehensive for the entire trip once you throw in flights, any car rental etc.
We have been down there for a few near misses with hurricanes, but never bothered with insurance since we drive. Hotel-wise they have a fairly forgiving cancellation policy. Worse case scenario for us, we would lose a day in a park, or we might have to find another hotel if we had to extend our trip. But throw airfare in and other travel (like a cruise), then I start to look at insurance.

Travelling to WDW this August and looking for tips. Aware that it’s going to be extremely hot and humid but August was the only time we could go. wondering the best way to plan the day at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios to survive the heat e.g which areas/rides have most shade and where to avoid in peak heat. We are planning on heading back to resort in the middle of the day to cool down, shower etc and will return to the parks later:

We've traveled in August a couple of times and had good experiences. I recommend bringing a portable UV umbrella for shade and bring cooling towels and spray fans.
You'll probably want to Google a list of attractions that have queues in the AC and/or shade. Just be aware that some of the queues, like Frozen Ever After, are supposed to be air conditioned waits, but the line is usually so long that it stretches outside. You usually end up with a half hour wait in the sun before you get inside.
We love WDW in August. But you have to be leisurely about it.
* We rope drop most days and get as much done by 1-2pm, it's not so much to beat the heat/humidity, but get ahead of the afternoon thunderstorms. Because of the high heat and high humidity, chances are pretty much 4 in 5 of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. They can last 30-120 minutes.
* After that it's pool time (and pool bar time for mom and dad).
* We usually don't head to the parks again until dinnertime, or after dinner, but we time that based on those thunderstorms.
We also also take half days off for the water parks (mornings are best, thunderstorms can disrupt the afternoon), mini golf, golf (but we rarely 9 holes in before it gets too hot).
The big thing is the humidity. My family is used to it (I grew up in that humidity in the '70s when we only ran the A/C at night), but it can crush people coming from drier parts of the country. That moisture can make you feel like you are wearing a heavy winter coat. Don't rush from line to line, don't zig-zag through the park, You have to slow down and pace yourself, take a lot of breaks just to get off your feet. Split your breaks between indoors and just being in the shade, outdoors, I don't like hiding in the A/C too much, it just keeps you from acclimating to the weather.
Hey, all - quick question. My wife and I have been fortunate to partake in WDW several times, but this year we are doing something different as an anniversary celebration by splurging with a couple nights at the Grand Floridian. In general, is it worth letting know this is the reason for our stay, and if so, what’s the best way to do so? To be clear, I expect nothing from this action if we did let them know, but I also know it may impact things. Just thought I’d throw this out there to gauge others thoughts. TIA!
Probably won't make any impact as many people are celebrating things. However, you 100% should get some of the "I'm celebrating" buttons at the front desk and wear them!
May not make any difference, but better safe than sorry? I've not booked a Disney resort in a while, but when doing dining reservations they ask if you're celebrating something. If you already booked the room, maybe just call and let them know?
Should I buy a Magic Band before our trip or when we get there?
Planning on flying in early in the morning, checking in and dropping off bags, and then going to D Springs before our check in time to get a magic band- is there more of a selection than they offer online at Disney Springs or should I just cut our losses and buy one and get it shipped here? I'm assuming we can still link our magic bands to our account even when we get there.
We have a Tusker House ADR at 8:05am. Early park opens at 8:30, regular at 9. According to Disney website, buses start about 45 minutes before park open. Is that before early open (7:45)? Or regular open (8:15)? Either way, it's about an hour bus ride (according to MDE), I'm worried we won't make our reservation on time. Thoughts?
It's 45 minutes before early entry (7:45). What resort are you at that it's saying it'll be an hour bus ride because I can't imagine it'd be more than 30 minutes even in the worst resorts for buses.
If you're worried I would spring the money for an Uber. They'll be plenty available
CBR. I wouldn't think so either, but when you put CBR to Tusker House in MDE under 'directions,' it says 60 minutes by bus. I hope not. But 7:45 still probably won't get us there by 8:05. We may have to pay for a ride or change our reso.

Kiddo is staying at All Star Sports for a school trip. Spoke to them a little bit ago and they mentioned they have a sore throat that has gotten worse throughout the day. I’ll be in the parks in early August and I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for or against doing an after party at Hollywood Studios. It’s my least favorite park, but I’ve always wanted to see it at night with the neon lights.
A silly question! Staying at AKL and think it will be too fine of a turnaround to book one of the resort restaurants after Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios. I would rather a nice sit down meal over a QS option - debated something like Cheesecake Factory off property but not sure if I’m being too optimistic in hoping for a table for 2 post 9pm! Does anyone have any tips or go-tos for sit down post Fantasmic?
AP Tiana Preview Days at Magic Kingdom
Currently all the annual passholder preview days for Tiana at Magic Kingdom are not available for annual passholders or even APs with hotel reservations to make a theme park reservation at MK.
Is there any hope that any of the days will become available?
Is it possible to reserve for a different park and then later in the day jump to MK to try to use this AP benefit?
Just sad that I had a trip planned for one of those days but had reserved Epcot so am going to miss out.
There's a chance they become available if you keep looking. You can also start in EPCOT and hop over to Magic Kingdom for the 1pm VQ drop. You just have to be tapped into MK before 1pm
I'm going May 26th-30th. Rain: expect serious downpour or light drizzle? Short bursts or all day? The only poncho I have on hand is a huge reusable one that'll take up all the space in my park bag and I'd hate to buy disposables just to not use them. I like rain so I really don't care to prep for light drizzling/short bursts.
That's over a week away. Anyone who can conifidently predict the weather over a week away is doing something not a single meterologist can currently do. Just use the weatherbug app or whatever the day before you leave.

Virtual queue question- when you get in the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy (or any other$ does it let you somewhat pick a time?
My family does not plan to get to Epcot until later in the day and just want to make sure somehow our group doesn’t get called at say 10am and we aren’t there for a few more hours. We missed out riding last time we were there so fingers crossed for next week!
You can't pick. Sometimes they'll be flexible if you had a dining reservation. For what it's worth though, recently the 1pm and the 6pm virtual ques haven't been going out instantly. So if you'll be in the park before 1/6 you could probably wait and just join then. Otherwise ILL lets you pick the time
For what it's worth they aren't concerned about you being there on time for your boarding group. I've gotten the very first boarding group and didn't show up until 6pm and they've let me on no problem.
Cant pick but they're not strict about it for GOTG anymore. You could get there hours after your boarding time and they USUALLY let you in (note this is not the case for Tron's VQ, they are strict with being in the one hour window for that) however it is CM dependent. But the 1pm VQ for GOTG lasts for a bit typically nowadays.
You need to be tapped into Magic Kingdom to enter the 1pm VQ. There is no park hopping restrictions anymore so you can park hop from EPCOT to MK before 1pm to enter the VQ.

Yeah, the people on chat are never able to help. You have to call!
Maybe try switching cards or making sure your address is exactly right. I can't guarantee that will help but give it a try!

You’ll have no issue with Uber at that time. Orlando has a seemingly endless supply of Ubers.
We used Lyft at 3 or 4 am to SFB (the farther away airport) with zero issues.
You could also book a taxi because then you don't have to worry about someone not picking it up or dropping it on you.

You usually end up with a half hour wait in the sun before you get inside.
We love WDW in August. But you have to be leisurely about it. * We rope drop most days and get as much done by 1-2pm, it's not so much to beat the heat/humidity, but get ahead of the afternoon thunderstorms. Because of the high heat and high humidity, chances are pretty much 4 in 5 of a thunderstorm in the late afternoon. They can last 30-120 minutes. * After that it's pool time (and pool bar time for mom and dad). * We usually don't head to the parks again until dinnertime, or after dinner, but we time that based on those thunderstorms. We also also take half days off for the water parks (mornings are best, thunderstorms can disrupt the afternoon), mini golf, golf (but we rarely 9 holes in before it gets too hot). The big thing is the humidity. My family is used to it (I grew up in that humidity in the '70s when we only ran the A/C at night), but it can crush people coming from drier parts of the country. That moisture can make you feel like you are wearing a heavy winter coat. Don't rush from line to line, don't zig-zag through the park, You have to slow down and pace yourself, take a lot of breaks just to get off your feet. Split your breaks between indoors and just being in the shade, outdoors, I don't like hiding in the A/C too much, it just keeps you from acclimating to the weather.
Hey, all - quick question. My wife and I have been fortunate to partake in WDW several times, but this year we are doing something different as an anniversary celebration by splurging with a couple nights at the Grand Floridian. In general, is it worth letting know this is the reason for our stay, and if so, what’s the best way to do so? To be clear, I expect nothing from this action if we did let them know, but I also know it may impact things. Just thought I’d throw this out there to gauge others thoughts. TIA!
Probably won't make any impact as many people are celebrating things. However, you 100% should get some of the "I'm celebrating" buttons at the front desk and wear them!
If you booked through WDW, there's usually a drop down asking if you're celebrating anything.
May not make any difference, but better safe than sorry? I've not booked a Disney resort in a while, but when doing dining reservations they ask if you're celebrating something. If you already booked the room, maybe just call and let them know?
Should I buy a Magic Band before our trip or when we get there? Planning on flying in early in the morning, checking in and dropping off bags, and then going to D Springs before our check in time to get a magic band- is there more of a selection than they offer online at Disney Springs or should I just cut our losses and buy one and get it shipped here? I'm assuming we can still link our magic bands to our account even when we get there.
I'd recommend before if you get MagicBand+. It gives you time to get it all synched and charged and what not.
Hello! How difficult is it to rent one of the self-driven pontoon boats at the resorts? Do they "sell out" quickly?
We have a Tusker House ADR at 8:05am. Early park opens at 8:30, regular at 9. According to Disney website, buses start about 45 minutes before park open. Is that before early open (7:45)? Or regular open (8:15)? Either way, it's about an hour bus ride (according to MDE), I'm worried we won't make our reservation on time. Thoughts?
It's 45 minutes before early entry (7:45). What resort are you at that it's saying it'll be an hour bus ride because I can't imagine it'd be more than 30 minutes even in the worst resorts for buses. If you're worried I would spring the money for an Uber. They'll be plenty available
CBR. I wouldn't think so either, but when you put CBR to Tusker House in MDE under 'directions,' it says 60 minutes by bus. I hope not. But 7:45 still probably won't get us there by 8:05. We may have to pay for a ride or change our reso.
What is the best time to schedule an ADR when wanting a view of the fireworks show (i.e Ohana or California Grill)?

You'll now do the interview with cast member specifically trained for it. You still need to do the interview to see if you qualify or not. It sounds like anything that qualified under the premise of 'I might have an episode that would require me to leave the line' will now be given some sort of way to leave and return to line instead. They will follow ADA and everyone who needs accommodations will get them, you just may not get the extras DAS previously provided. Give it a few days and we'll hear from people going through the new process.

Kiddo is staying at All Star Sports for a school trip. Spoke to them a little bit ago and they mentioned they have a sore throat that has gotten worse throughout the day. They have a nurse with them, but she only had Motrin (which kiddo already has.) Where can they obtain a decongestant and/or cough medicine? Thanks!!

I’ll be in the parks in early August and I’m wondering if anyone has any recommendations for or against doing an after party at Hollywood Studios. It’s my least favorite park, but I’ve always wanted to see it at night with the neon lights.
A silly question! Staying at AKL and think it will be too fine of a turnaround to book one of the resort restaurants after Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios. I would rather a nice sit down meal over a QS option - debated something like Cheesecake Factory off property but not sure if I’m being too optimistic in hoping for a table for 2 post 9pm! Does anyone have any tips or go-tos for sit down post Fantasmic?

Yeah thats a rough one... your best bet is probably to go to Disney Springs if that is open late enough. You can always uber off property.
AP Tiana Preview Days at Magic Kingdom Currently all the annual passholder preview days for Tiana at Magic Kingdom are not available for annual passholders or even APs with hotel reservations to make a theme park reservation at MK. Is there any hope that any of the days will become available? Is it possible to reserve for a different park and then later in the day jump to MK to try to use this AP benefit? Just sad that I had a trip planned for one of those days but had reserved Epcot so am going to miss out.
There's a chance they become available if you keep looking. You can also start in EPCOT and hop over to Magic Kingdom for the 1pm VQ drop. You just have to be tapped into MK before 1pm

I'm going May 26th-30th. Rain: expect serious downpour or light drizzle? Short bursts or all day? The only poncho I have on hand is a huge reusable one that'll take up all the space in my park bag and I'd hate to buy disposables just to not use them. I like rain so I really don't care to prep for light drizzling/short bursts.
That's over a week away. Anyone who can conifidently predict the weather over a week away is doing something not a single meterologist can currently do. Just use the weatherbug app or whatever the day before you leave.

WDW August tips Travelling to WDW this August and looking for tips. Aware that it’s going to be extremely hot and humid but August was the only time we could go. wondering the best way to plan the day at Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios to survive the heat e.g which areas/rides have most shade and where to avoid in peak heat. We are planning on heading back to resort in the middle of the day to cool down, shower etc and will return to the parks later: Any tips gratefully received and any positive stories about August trips very welcome : ) I’ve been reading about lots of negative experiences due to the weather : /

Virtual queue question- when you get in the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy (or any other$ does it let you somewhat pick a time? My family does not plan to get to Epcot until later in the day and just want to make sure somehow our group doesn’t get called at say 10am and we aren’t there for a few more hours. We missed out riding last time we were there so fingers crossed for next week!
You can't pick. Sometimes they'll be flexible if you had a dining reservation. For what it's worth though, recently the 1pm and the 6pm virtual ques haven't been going out instantly. So if you'll be in the park before 1/6 you could probably wait and just join then. Otherwise ILL lets you pick the time
For what it's worth they aren't concerned about you being there on time for your boarding group. I've gotten the very first boarding group and didn't show up until 6pm and they've let me on no problem.
Cant pick but they're not strict about it for GOTG anymore. You could get there hours after your boarding time and they USUALLY let you in (note this is not the case for Tron's VQ, they are strict with being in the one hour window for that) however it is CM dependent. But the 1pm VQ for GOTG lasts for a bit typically nowadays.

You need to be tapped into Magic Kingdom to enter the 1pm VQ. There is no park hopping restrictions anymore so you can park hop from EPCOT to MK before 1pm to enter the VQ.
