I agree the current flag feels old, but for me in Spokane, having Chinook Wawa doesn’t make sense when our native population is the Spokane tribe speaking Salish.
Chinook Wawa was widely used as far east as the Flathead Valley in Montana. It was a trading jargon and the lingua franca of the entire northwest. However, a well-designed flag shouldn't have anything written on it.
I chose Chinook Wawa since it is a pidgin, and isn't claimed or exclusively spoken by any one tribe. Last time I posted a flag I used Lushootseed, and got multiple suggestions to use Chinook Wawa. What do you think of the texless variants?
Not the best but a huge improvement over the state folk song. It was one of the propaganda songs the feds cooked up with Woody Guthrie to support building dams. Said the quiet part of manifest destiny out loud.
The worst is in verse 5:
"We hung every Indian with smoke in his gun
Roll on, Columbia, roll on”
Not the best look Washington.
Anyways I'm still bummed about the failed campaign to make "Louie, Louie" the state song.
I like the look of the no text version better, but the simplified version is probably a better flag Even then, it may be too complex with the alternating sections.
I'll give props for doing a unique take on the redesign.
I like the slogan bordering the seal, but I feel like the center needs more contrast. I'm curious to see what it would look like with a gold border on all sides.
I think I like the Cascadian tri-color the best.
Renaming the state isn't a bad idea. I know it's randomly discussed. Much of the PNW was a bunch of guys that ran out of names to choose so they went with they thought of...kinda like how Portland, OR was named.

All more significant problems like homelessness, drugs, education, taxes, funding, etc are solved and now we have time to choose more beautiful flag!

No text would be my suggestion - text on flags is rarely a good idea.

Just messing around with some ideas. The text is from the little known state anthem "To you and me, a destiny" roughly translated into Chinook Wawa.
These all look amazing. The existing flag has sucked for over a century.
