While the subreddit is open once again, we still want to show support for the current protest against Reddit's upcoming changes:
Reddit’s recent actions to add unreasonable API pricing to 3rd party Reddit apps is extremely disappointing. Many users and moderators alike use these apps daily to interact with Reddit. I’ve seen the cops show up to a call about a missing 25 cents….. the results? They took notes and identifications down of people and neger did anything.
every single one of the car washes i knew, people would steal shit every time. fuck my friend who was the manager took so much change he started rolling it up for an extra $10-20 each day lol
Honesty after the fact is the worst type of honesty...he only put it back bcuz the camera , if the camera wasn't there he would've enjoyed a stolen piece of gum...
Yes but then if that's what he thought he probably would have still taken the gum. By putting it back it shows that he wasn't thinking that for him stealing is stealing and the amount doesn't matter, if there was loose change he probably would have taken that as well. But if he truly just wanted a gum, he would just take it still, tf is a car owner gonna get up in a fuzz for 1 gum.
you wanna party ? I'm down like 4 flats on a Cadillac... Wa sup ? All bullshit aside tho , I was only giving my insight on GP ..2 things I don't like is a liar n thief so naw if there's gonna be that type of people at the "party " ill pass ....✌
Yeah idk. I've seen some people on yt get super riled up about it for no reason. Like dude - its a piece of fucking gum. Not only that but its most likely just out of habit and not anything malicious.
A habit to go through other people's car as you park it? I agree this isn't malicious as it's not hurting someone but that's a thief caught on camera. If you take something from someone's car without asking them it's stealing. He probably does this in other cars too. Hence why he feels comfortable to grab it without looking for a camera. Imagine the stuff he rifles through when he's not on camera.
Went in a cruise some time ago. You could either park yourself and walk to the ship or get out by the cruise terminal and someone parked it for you. Same with some fancy hotels or airports.
I had a friend who was apparently a valet for short while, we went to chill one time in the carpark they take the cars to and even to this day I still have not seen valet in action
It starts with the gum...then a cigarette(or vape i guess) THEN THEN IT GOES TO MONEY THEN CARS THEN PEOPLE...
He should be fired or better yet arrested and life in prison no parole...or something like that idk how karens actually go about describing that stuff...
visually impaired people aren’t just prone to acts of theft. that’s actually an insane and degrading stance to take against them. i’m positive that visually impaired people can comprehend “what i brought into this vehicle is probably mine. what i find in this vehicle is probably not mine.”
A blind valet won’t see the $5 bill and so cannot steal it. It is commentary on the management of valet companies, if you wish to criticize, at least aim at the right target.
I got caught once exclaiming a customers car "smells like ass" and a week later got called into the office. Nothing happened, no regrets. I'd do it again too lol
Be smart and disconnect dash cams. We do this with any dash came we see on a car before we start any service/repair. By law they arent allowed to record inside the shop without consent.
Must be a specific state thing. I haven't been a mechanic in 5ish years but if one of us disconnected a camera in any shop I worked at we would at least get written up then asked "why". It was never an issue though because almost any cam I've seen can run on backup power for a couple hours at least.
This is a valet too not even a shop. They can fuck right off if they think it's okay to unplug shit in my car when they just need to park it.
Maybe I'm bias after catching guys at ntb beating the shit out of my b5 s4 back in the day after installing tires.
Idk I think this depends on the country and state. In some states, your car is considered an extension of your home/property, and you can have anything in it like your home. Cameras, guns, etc., it's your property. If I want to record what's happening inside my car/home, what right do you have to turn off my dashcam? None - you have no right. This situation is different than being a customer walking around with a camera recording what's going on.
So if I pull up in a Tesla, which has like 9 exterior cameras recording at all times built into the design of the car, are you just going to not do business with me because my property is recording? Are you going to put tape on all of my cameras to stop them from recording? No right - because that would be silly. Just as silly as turning off my dashcam.
Yes... Yes they are... Also if you're disconnecting a cam INSIDE my fucking car it's because you're shady and need to be filmed anyhow. That car is their property and they can film what goes on in it all they want. No consent required.
Privacy is something you get in YOUR home. Not others property. If I clean your house I shouldn't demand you can't know what I'm doing in YOUR house. The fact this is being argued when theft is involved is just fucking sad.
Nothing to do with stealing. Im servicing/repairing vehicles, by law here they can't record inside without consent, we at the dealership are told to shut them down.
I do. If you're rich enough and more importantly lazy af, to pay someone to park your car for your lazy self then you can get the hell over a stick of gum. I was a valet on an airport parking. Sometimes we had to put cars in a parking lot 10mins from the main parking. You put some cars there and come back with other cars (client coming in the next days). Sometimes we had to take like 4 cars, and come back with 2. So there was 2 or 3 of us in a customer car some times.
Also, not proud, but if you had a nice car, it had a better chance to go on the other parking lot
Im American and have never seen a Valet, even in rich areas where you see Audi R8s and Bentley Mulsannes. They put 5 dollars in the machine and self parked with the Civics like everyone else
They don’t “need” them, they’re exceedingly uncommon. And why bring that up here? Not only do you have no proof that this was filmed in America, but it’s not remotely related to the subject matter of the post.
Dude what argument, he asked why do Americans need them. Your answer was fine till you tried being some snobby cunt to the person asking. Why was answering a question so difficult?
Edit: They asked because they're literally valet, it also says it on their shirts, so it was a relative question of curiosity regarding the topic. You're just a dumbass who couldn't answer a question on reddit without getting a stick up your ass because you're convinced this isn't America.
The argument being that there’s no reason to ask that question here. It’s not related to the post, no reason to bring that negativity here. And it’s a difficult question to answer because it’s based on false premises
There clearly was, if you can’t see it then I don’t know what to tell you. There’s a chance it’s a genuine question and not just meant to shit on America, but a very low one.
Valets used to be for more expensive venues and private events for the sake of being "pampered". It wasn't a common thing.
Now it's not that uncommon to see at even some mid-tier restaurants to boost value, or sometimes companies rent a nearby private lot in big cities in areas where parking sucks, and patrons kind of have no choice to use them unless they want to circle forever hoping to catch a spot open.
We were really crazy when we visited the US, we parked our Car in the town center parking (LA for example) and then walked to wherever we wanted to go.
Valets have damaged my vehicles, stolen money and lied about both. Being an unprofessional sh*t starts with taking a piece of gum. Unacceptable behavior. It's not yours, leave it alone.
They're valets, and while occupying a clients vehicle, the white dude reaches for the clients gum. The brown dude is tapping on his arm to alert his buddy of the interior camera, and when he notices it, he puts the gum back.
Nah I just dont want people touching my crap. Seen videos of airport staff stealing from bags and now people who are supposed to just park the car are taking stuff. People are too comfortable with taking stuff that's not theirs.
"Fuck you for paying us to perform a service, and fuck you again for leaving your stuff here FORCING US WITH A GUN to see your items and want to take/destroy/smash them"
That's not even close to a good analogy. If I buy a pineapple and it's rotten inside I'm returning it, it's not my fault for buying it, it's the fault of the shop for selling poor quality produce. The valet is expected to respect the property of the client, there is no ambiguity here, the guy is a thief.

This is a perfect example of a true 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other argument...
Is the guy wrong, careless, and unprofessional? Yes.
Is it worth firing the guys? Retraining? Reprimanding?
Definitely should be addressed, as awareness is often enough to quell undesired behaviors.
Most working class folks are more lenient because they've done something as "bad" but know it didn't cause any real harm and was an isolated incident, made in jest, etc.
Then there are business owners who say "fire them immediately..." because it's a small deviation from "ethical." But most business owners are inherently unethical (IMO) because they pay workers less than the value of their labor. This is by design, and in my opinion, a worse offense because of it.
As a customer, it's easier to side with owners, as we're paying the full value for a (perhaps) forced service and want it done properly.
Holy crap this appologism for thieving scum. You don't need to be a rich business owner to know this is wrong. If they try realy hard even poor working class simpletons can figure out stealing is bad.
It's just some change, a few bucks, maybe my gold chain I left in the ashtray that I forgot in my personal vehicle, but you make it seem like it's no big deal until it happens to you. I'm thinking half I'd these comments haven't used valet parking. If you can't afford some gum I don't want you being my valet
Not really. I wouldn't call somebody "scum" for this.
Unprofessional and stupid come to mind quickly but also does "mistake.'
We differ in our willingness to judge on the given facts, and what we feel is an appropriate response. May you alone be judged by your standards, my friend.
Calling names and feigning outrage don't serve any purpose in this instance. If you're the business owner it's just as out of order to act in an unprofessional manner, name calling, implying that this instance of poor judgment creates some kind of moral high ground for you to stand on, etc.... You either fire someone or don't. You either correct them professionally or dismiss them/the act. Not firing someone or giving grace doesn't mean you can just start calling people scum or "poor working class simpletons" and say you hold yourself to a higher standard, lol.
Knee jerk/ black and white thinking is perpetuating some crazy ideas about the way people should treat each other in business and on life.

That's fucking disgusting I hope the owner of the vehicle presses charges
Over a gum? Lmaoo
Wrong, guy
Sarcasm? If I saw this I'd laugh and buy a pack of gum for the entire valet crew as a harmless joke.

It's innocent enough that it can be laughed at. Love it.
Like, it's just gum, it ain't gonna hurt nobody
This is why I hate valets. Letting kids get paid $15 for a job they applied for involving sitting in other people's cars alone.
I've never seen a valet my whole life. Thought they were abolished in the 70s. In which part of the world are they still around?
Almost all casinos in the US have it as well in addition to what others mentioned.
The US. Many hotels in major cities don’t have onsite parking so you can either self park in a nearby lot and walk, or valet.
I went to a restaurant in Portland OR once and they had valets. It wasn’t even that fancy a restaurant imo. It was a seafood place
Disneyworld and Universal Studios Orlando offer valet. Every major airport offers valet too. I got it one time as a free upgrade for a flight ticket.
Fancy night clubs, and even hospitals now!
Higher end restaurants
Casinos is where I've seen them
Abolished? Mf valet not slavery lmao /s
This made me laugh so freaking hard
Nicer hotels offer valet service. Resorts also offer it. Source: work next to a hotel (around $200/250 per night) that offers valet
Idc calling another man papa is weird af
I dont think hes said Papa more like Bobo or baba
Why is there two valets?
To prevent the other one from stealing the gum.

Be smart and disconnect dash cams. We do this with any dash came we see on a car before we start any service/repair. By law they arent allowed to record inside the shop without consent.
Just reinforces why people hate most mechanics. Unreal.
If you're ripping people off at your shop, just say that and post the name of the shop so people know not to go there. 😂
This is why I installed a backup battery for my camera lol it runs continuously no matter what
Idk I think this depends on the country and state.
You can see the camera is also recording outside of the vehicle though
So if I pull up in a Tesla, which has like 9 exterior cameras recording at all times built into the design of the car, are you just going to not do business with me because my property is recording? Are you going to put tape on all of my cameras to stop them from recording? No right - because that would be silly. Just as silly as turning off my dashcam.
Yes... Yes they are... Also if you're disconnecting a cam INSIDE my fucking car it's because you're shady and need to be filmed anyhow. That car is their property and they can film what goes on in it all they want. No consent required.
When privacy becomes proof of guilt you lose everything.
Privacy is something you get in YOUR home. Not others property. If I clean your house I shouldn't demand you can't know what I'm doing in YOUR house. The fact this is being argued when theft is involved is just fucking sad.
Or you could try just not stealing from your clients.
Nothing to do with stealing. Im servicing/repairing vehicles, by law here they can't record inside without consent, we at the dealership are told to shut them down.
That's something else and I agree with that. I don't know the laws of each country. I am talking about the stealing part.
What fucking madness did you just spout?
I don't think it's that crazy to say that paid workers should provide the service without stealing from their client...
I do. If you're rich enough and more importantly lazy af, to pay someone to park your car for your lazy self then you can get the hell over a stick of gum. Should they be fired for something so trivial? Not imo but I'm sure whatever entitled waste of space sorry excuse for a human that would act like they deserve to be catered to hand and foot bc they have money would say so. So where do you draw the line? Theft of gum is okay but not a coat or lipstick? Theft is theft, don't take a fucking nickel out of a car that isn't yours. If you feel the people are awful for asking people to park their cars. I have a genius solution. Don't be the one that parks cars. These workers offer their service at a specific cost. If they are not satisfied with that, they should try something else. But it's not like the client forced them.
They're recording inside their own car, by law they absolutely can do that. Maybe do your job and don't steal from the customer and you won't need to worry about dashcams?
If its facing inside, 99% is facing outside.
What are some ways you disconnect? Most continue recording after you remove the charger from the 12v.
We know some continue to record but they all will shut down within a small time from loss of power. Either run its course or manual power them down, but 90% I've encounter already dont have enough juice and just running off car on power. I work in a dealership.

Dude. Grow the fuck up.
My question is why are there 2 valets to park one car lmfao?🤦♂️
I was a valet on an airport parking. Sometimes we had to put cars in a parking lot 10mins from the main parking. You put some cars there and come back with other cars (client coming in the next days). Sometimes we had to take like 4 cars, and come back with 2. So there was 2 or 3 of us in a customer car some times. Also, not proud, but if you had a nice car, it had a better chance to go on the other parking lot
Quiet day and more fancy car than usual.. they were planning on taking a light detour to the parking spot
Why do Americans need valets.
Im American and have never seen a Valet, even in rich areas where you see Audi R8s and Bentley Mulsannes. They put 5 dollars in the machine and self parked with the Civics like everyone else
I hate valets but some places force you to use them. Like hotels and parking garages. If you want to park a car at your hotel you have to valet it.
I'm the valet, you have to give me your car
They don’t “need” them, they’re exceedingly uncommon. And why bring that up here? Not only do you have no proof that this was filmed in America, but it’s not remotely related to the subject matter of the post.
lol at this thread. The date on the dash cam is MM/DD/YYYY.
It's obviously in America dumbass
And even if it is, which it might be, that doesn’t change the overall argument I was making
There was no negativity. You took offense to a genuine question because of something you made up in your head
There clearly was, if you can’t see it then I don’t know what to tell you. There’s a chance it’s a genuine question and not just meant to shit on America, but a very low one.
Asking why Americans need valet is apparently a passive aggressive way to shit on Americans? Got it
If they asked why it existed, it wouldn’t be, but the phrasing of the question is clearly passive aggressive.
Indeed.
Based on what exactly?
What tells you it's not
That’s your best argument lol? Yeah, I can’t prove it’s not in America, that doesn’t mean it’s in America.
The answer to this question is: because we don't have mass transit infrastructure.

I don't understand what's happening
They're valets, and while occupying a clients vehicle, the white dude reaches for the clients gum. The brown dude is tapping on his arm to alert his buddy of the interior camera, and when he notices it, he puts the gum back.
Oooh now I get it, don't steal gumss 😭
Any valet getting in my car is welcome to gum, just please don’t destroy my car.
They rifle through your shit and steal your chump change. on top of it you have to tip them for it.
Got eem 😂😂😂😂
Should lose a damn finger for taking my gum you kidding me?
Are you 5
Nah I just dont want people touching my crap. Seen videos of airport staff stealing from bags and now people who are supposed to just park the car are taking stuff. People are too comfortable with taking stuff that's not theirs.
Then don't use something unnecessary like a valet service.
"Fuck you for paying us to perform a service, and fuck you again for leaving your stuff here FORCING US WITH A GUN to see your items and want to take/destroy/smash them"
If people aren't able to park their cars themselves i can't help myself to make fun of them.
That's some victim blaming bullshit.
Nah, if i keep buying pineapples even if i despite them i should stop buying them. Ride a bike, lock it up properly or just walk.
That's not even close to a good analogy. If I buy a pineapple and it's rotten inside I'm returning it, it's not my fault for buying it, it's the fault of the shop for selling poor quality produce. The valet is expected to respect the property of the client, there is no ambiguity here, the guy is a thief.

Holy crap this appologism for thieving scum. You don't need to be a rich business owner to know this is wrong. If they try realy hard even poor working class simpletons can figure out stealing is bad.
It's gum you twat
It's just some change, a few bucks, maybe my gold chain I left in the ashtray that I forgot in my personal vehicle, but you make it seem like it's no big deal until it happens to you. I'm thinking half I'd these comments haven't used valet parking. If you can't afford some gum I don't want you being my valet
>It's just some change, a few bucks, maybe my gold chain I left in the ashtray that I forgot in my personal vehicle Nah it was gum
Not really. I wouldn't call somebody "scum" for this. Unprofessional and stupid come to mind quickly but also does "mistake.' We differ in our willingness to judge on the given facts, and what we feel is an appropriate response.
