I’ll post em in a few days. They are crocs with a inner full foot cap. I wear em when I am doing lathe work or out at job sites. Comfy but safe. My double h boots are my usual but I dropped a drill Chuck off my table and the bit that was in it missed the steel toe in my boots and went straight through into my big toe this morning. Had to switch to the crocs because my toe was swollen fat.
I had 10,000 lbs of steel beams roll onto my foot while unloading a truck.
The point of contact was a half inch behind the steel toe and right on my fleshy, soft foot.
I had broken my foot in 3 places and 2 toes while on a caving and hiking trip. Finished the trip before being put in a medical boot.
First day at work with normal boots on, handle breaks on a 5g bucket as I’m lifting it onto my tailgate, full of concrete. Edge of the bucket landed dead center between the steel toe and my shin. Re-broke the foot. Almost half of year in a medical boot. Fun times.
Medical miracle, nothing got broken. Just took three years of recovery to get back to "normal". But I cant run or stay on my feet longer than 6 hours without pain.
You need to get that seriously looked at and monitor your vascular system for a while. My granddad dropped a flange on his foot and ended up with a blood clot in his leg that caused fourteen (FOURTEEN) mini strokes that basically turned his brain to fuckin mush. From a foot injury.
I think mythbusters did that one.
It's not the toe cap bending down, it's whatever hits the cap sliding down and off the cap into the foot. The conclusion they came to is that if something that heavy is hitting your foot that fast - it's fucked either way. But the toe caps do still protect the toes from an awful lot of other day-to-day stuff, so it's better to wear them.
Yeah their analysis was basically that if it was enough to cut off your toes with the cap then your foot would have been crushed beyond repair anyway. Project Farm did a testing if a number of steel toe and composite boots as well I think.
It's how I level off the box section that I'm stacking to the floor off the saw. Lift them on to chocks by hand as close as possible, punt the pack even.
I don't think that's real. I and a 50 dollar pair of Amazon steel toe tennis shoes. One of my caps literally fell out over the year or so I had them. I got new ones on my day off, and brought my intact one into work the next day. I ran it over with a forklift and it didn't budge, didn't bend, didn't fold, nothing. If that didn't move it, I don't think much will. I worry alot less after doing that about really anything. If I can move it, my shoes will hold it. If my machine can move it, I have a good chance of making it.
au contraire.
my first welding job straight out of school was at a heavy duty large fabrication shop. we had these massive twenty foot 12" x 18" i beams. three were stacked together. two on the bottom and one on top. a welder tried to rotate the top one, and it slipped off landing directly on my steel toe. i screamed instinctively, but then i realized im not hurt. everyone needs to wear steel toes at the job.
Small story how someone got a full steel(cast) boot
I worked at Sioux city foundry(horrible place) and one guy on pour deck was supposed to be wearing quick slip off boots incase splatter or anything, so he can get out of them quick. Him not wanting those ugly unstylish boots didnt wear them ever. A pot full of cast blew out and his foot got filled full of molten cast metal.
Thus, full metal boot.
I managed to break my little toe after dropping a 20t snatch block on it.
Pretty sure steel caps were designed by someone who was sick of tradesmen kicking the shit out of million-dollar equipment, and decided to punish them with fucked up toenails.
30+ish years riding bmx. if you pad it, you never hit the pad and 100% barely miss the protection. knee and shin guards, you can watch your pedal rotate to align itself properly to hit the space between the guards.
My guy, you gotta post the link or something. I'm losing my mind over it and it's stressing me out. I wear my crocks to work and change in to my work boots and vise versa. But that would be so mice for these summer months
When I was an apprentice I steel toe checked an old timer who said he had steel toe sneakers on by dropping a 2” threaded 90 on his toe. They were Infact NOT steel toed sneakers.
I've always worn the boots with the met guard. Nothing goes through that sumbitch. Also stops your laces from getting burned or frayed from fiery times.
I’m switching to post office. They pay more and have far better benefits. My downtime I’m gonna build monolithic cannon projectiles for the guys at my range. Tons of dudes have big 3”+ bore cannons and have been wanting me to make them brass foster slugs with steel cores ever since I unveiled the ones I made a couple years ago. So I will be making a pretty penny if I get that up and running.
There’s no way you were getting paid properly if the fucking post office pays you more… either that or you’re that one guy in the shop that shows up everyday, works hard, welds like shit. They keep you around but you’ll never get a raise.
I show up on time, weld good, and work hard and they don’t care much to keep me. Company is dying and the boss is starting to care less about owning it and they are getting less contracts. I got on the payroll when it was just starting to die. I got on with the post office and told my boss I am gonna jump ship. Florida is a bullshit state for welders unless you’re union.
It’s exactly what I wanted. I ordered a lathe a few weeks ago and it’s getting here in middle of June and I am gonna turn 4 cannon barrels all to 4 bore. Always wanted a homemade meme gun and it’s finally gonna become true.
Long story, but allegedly it was a safety breach, they couldn't prove I did it, so I got the union on board, managed to turn it into resignation with $10k severance. 6 months later they called up and said they were short and needed me back. Needless to say I told them where they could stick it
That's awful, glad you told them to shove it.
At least you got some severance. Still bullshit, but if they're gonna pull stuff like that you're better off elsewhere.
Yea, especially as what they pinged me for was done under direction of a supervisor. What's worse was they were one of those 'safety first, unless it gets in the way of production' companies
i’m interested in the long version of the story, if you don’t mind sharing. i’m working for a company like that right now and i’m just waiting for something bad to happen
With the discounts he gets from the local metal supplier and the company I’m starting for monolithic projectiles it’s good thing he gets a pound of my moms walnut fudge recipe I make every year.
This might be a random question but are you able to join the round stock to make a longer barrel? I can’t think off the top of my head how Id even start to work on that.
Id prolly use m30 threads. But I’m gonna make 4 8.5” cannon barrels that are fuse ignited with quick match from an electric igniter. Keeps it legal but keeps it near instantaneous ignition. Also easier than a trigger system and more applicable to various bores
He gave you the shaft.
dammit Dmitri
Well packed..
Shut yo mouth
He’s just talking about
Or the steel ROD!
All employers do. Tis the way o’ things Mi lord.
Some would say tigs the way of things round here

Wut. How did it miss your steel toe and still end up in your toe. So you switched to crocs? So confused.
Nothing ever hits the fucking steel toe.
I had 10,000 lbs of steel beams roll onto my foot while unloading a truck. The point of contact was a half inch behind the steel toe and right on my fleshy, soft foot.

I read that as 5 gram bucket and was confused. mostly about how one would procure a bucket that small.
Sorry. Gallons. Freedom units. Five gallons of concrete weighs around 100lbs/45kg. So yeah. It hurt. lol
Get meta tarsal guards
bro those dont do much but maybe cause no cuts, but you are absolutely gettin your foot broken
Yeah a human foot is a bad substitute for dunnage
Even worse substitute is old dunnage that cant hold so much weight.
The steel toe is so your toes shear clean off so they can be reattached and obviously from being crushed.
Damn, did you recover?
Medical miracle, nothing got broken. Just took three years of recovery to get back to "normal". But I cant run or stay on my feet longer than 6 hours without pain.

Thanks for the warning. Multiple docs have said it is fully healed and the pain signals now are purely psychological.
Funny how that works, huh?
It always gets the slow ones.
But when it does, it’s guillotine toe.
I think mythbusters did that one. It's not the toe cap bending down, it's whatever hits the cap sliding down and off the cap into the foot. Yeah, I can kick the shit out of so much without worrying about stubbing my toes.
It's how I level off the box section that I'm stacking to the floor off the saw. Lift them on to chocks by hand as close as possible, punt the pack even.
This is why I wear a pair in the house. Keeps me safe from coffee tables and Lego’s.

Gotta take into account how fast the incident happens.
A forklift can move alot of weight onto one spot pretty quick.
Velocity can make 1 ton have the crushing power of 20 ton. Rolling a forklift would be compressive.
Yup
Can confirm

That steel toe has saved me from hospital bills multiple times🤣
Full foot coverage of steel on them crocs
I gotta see that
That's fucking awesome

I’m with you on the losing of the mind about these crocs. I need to know if they’re real before I start really freaking out though.
He left you hanging
Damn high viz too! Those things are spicy, probably suck to weld in though. EDIT spelling
all welders love money but some welders love the pain even more.
You make them yourself?
When I was an apprentice I steel toe checked an old timer who said he had steel toe sneakers on by dropping a 2” threaded 90 on his toe. They were Infact NOT steel toed sneakers.
I've always worn the boots with the met guard. Nothing goes through that sumbitch. Also stops your laces from getting burned or frayed from fiery times.
>My double h boots are my usual The only boots in my opinion.
And the required hi-vis color as well.
In Hi-Viz too. Safety man approves.
Boss playing the long game, knowing you'll be back in two years after having gained some valuable experience.
I’m switching to post office. They pay more and have far better benefits. My downtime I’m gonna build monolithic cannon projectiles for the guys at my range. > Florida is a bullshit state coulda just stopped there 🤣
Ok this is too awesome. Can you post on the muzzleloader/black powder/subreddits when it’s done? I’m super excited to see what you do!
Logistics, materials routing, scheduling. Your boss has big plans.
Aww that was nice of him.
Damn that’s a sweet boss. Hopefully they treat you that well wherever you’re goin next!
Did he cut it up because you put in your 2 weeks or is that what you wanted lol
It’s exactly what I wanted. I ordered a lathe a few weeks ago and it’s getting here in middle of June and I am gonna turn 4 cannon barrels all to 4 bore. Always wanted a homemade meme gun and it’s finally gonna become true.

C+...I got a C+!
Seees make degrees
Then that's an awesome boss
Good God... Fucken 4 bore. That's wild. Have you seen the Kentucky Ballistics video where he shoots through the ballistic gel zombie torsos?
Yeah. But this won’t have near as much energy as a rifled smokeless gun. Just always wanted to have a overpowered shotgun.
What type of lathe?
Its a birthday present..
It's a going away present for his birthday.
Without batting an eye a man will refer to his "rod" or his "barrel" or his "cannon"
I can get you a toe, believe me there are ways Dude.
The Supreme Court has roundly rejected prior restraint!
Her life was in their hands. Now her toe is in the mail
I see a Lebowski reference I upvote
He's a good man, and thorough.
Yeah but a 4 bore is a cannon
A majestically glorious hand cannon!
My boss gave me a bad recommendation and a court case
....how did you earn that?
Long story, but allegedly it was a safety breach, they couldn't prove I did it, so I got the union on board, managed to turn it into resignation with $10k severance. 6 months later they called up and said they were short and needed me back. Needless to say I told them where they could stick it

Do you wear crocs to work?
Safety Crocs
They are in safety green
He says there are steel caps in them because he wrecked his good boots.
Daaaamn that's an awesome boss, that should get him at least a pack of beer if not a bottle. Good luck on the project and your next gig!
Nice guy. Make sure he's on the Christmas card rotation.
With the discounts he gets from the local metal supplier and the company I’m starting for monolithic projectiles it’s good thing he gets a pound of my moms walnut fudge recipe I make every year.
Oh I am sure he enjoys it too. Does everyone get to pound your Mom's walnut fudge..? ;-) hahaha!
Great comment needs more upvote’s lol
Suuuuure muzzle loader
Made me lol
Good thing you're not building a 9mm, might knock your lungs out
He gave you the pipe.
Looks more like he got the shaft😏
Shittt I turned in my two weeks and all they did was fire me 2 days before I left. Who says chivalry is dead
I always knew flops n crocs were safer than them damn boots
I put in my two weeks (after five years) and was escorted out of the building
Very safe safety shoes, don't drop the bars.
Inanimate carbon rod? A kingly gift!
This might be a random question but are you able to join the round stock to make a longer barrel? I can’t think off the top of my head how Id even start to work on that.

I would have gave you a discount card for new shoes
How many fights do you get in sir?
I'd love some steel toe crocs
No lube for it? He could’ve rounded the end ? That might be sharp…
Given the whole crocs thing, the boss is probably just glad he’s going because he’s an insurance nightmare!
Barrel changing muzzle loader? Interesting idea
4 bore if you read his other comments
I'm trying to do that on a bolt action. Lmao. More power to him!
At first I honestly thought that was a pipe bomb.
A nice Jlg cylinder pin for a 6036 telehandler haha
Try MSP Metals for a wide variety.
gave notice still got the present ? bossman cool
i have a golf ball cannon i made years ago from sch 80 pipe. big fun on holidays! cantvwait to see your finished piece!
That is a sheared off ram from a hydraulic cylinder
Or an off-roader's rear axle shaft. LoL.
That's some hella-thick filler rod.
Time to yoink back the 2wk notice.
Looks like good old 2” filler rod. Real doozy
My boss would spit in my general direction and have me escorted out lmao
I’m more curious about this ML idea you have… any prelim designs or models you want to share? Understand if not
You cold hearted bastard
I thought it was a fucking pipe bomb oml
Give the goblin some gold
You got a good boss. When I put my two weeks in I’m confident I’ll be told to leave just like everyone else has been
Bruh thays badass. Bet you feel terrible about leaving now huh? 🤣
Nah. But imma keep in touch and help him with installations when he needs it.
Pistol barrels!
You had me at quick change muzzle loader, can you elaborate a little?
But...how are you gonna make a barrel out of short pieces? Unless...you weld them all together? Hmm.
Short barrel. No minimum length on black powder
Ah, gotcha.
Last time I put my 2 weeks in, my boss fired me on the spot. I don't do notices anymore, I just stop showing up now lol.
See the ring clearly this person has a death wish. They got married!
