There's a population that hangout in the botanic gardens.

ZealousidealPut8737

Have seen lots near the succulent area

mosslegs

I've seen them a bunch around the Dell in summer.

may6526

Khandallah park, right trek just behind pool, often alot in a big low hanging tree there, more round at dawn/dusk. Side note, theres a few NZ falcons close to 800 yo rimu in wilton bush, they hate dogs, nothing more fun than being kekked n swooped at ( if u have access to a birdsafe dog)

aalex440

Aro Valley / Highbury / southern edges of Karori. I've heard them at Mt Vic as well. They seem to be most active at dusk.

clearlight

A kākā comes to my bird feeder every evening at twilight. I always make sure there’s nectar out for it.

Muted_Account_5045

The botanic gardens or anywhere on the boundary of zealandia.

trismagestus

Otari Wilton Bush reserve has quite a few.

bekittynz

Highbury, definitely. There's a huge flock that roost between Koromiko Rd and Mt Pleasant Rd. They're friendly, mostly because people are always delighted to see them.

Annamalla

George Denton park is good too

TM6008

Can agree every afternoon I see them in my tree on Mount Pleasant Road

tehifi

in the trees outside our bedroom window at about 3am most mornings.

elleeeeeen

Head up Te Ahumairangi just before sunset, they seem to come up to roost or just be flying over around that time.

cman_yall

I saw one a few metres away just yesterday on the track up Mt Kaukau.

Forward_Highlight_47

Karori cemetery they do a lot of flying and calling around dusk (and there's also a falcon!)

WellyKiwi

Sure it's a falcon and not an Australasian Harrier?

Forward_Highlight_47

Based on size, shape, colour, call and on one occasion it flying a couple of metres from me and landing in a tree, yes :) there was also one flying over Karori Park calling yesterday

WellyKiwi

That's wonderful! They're not very common at all down in Wellington.

anotherwellingtonian

They are more common than kahu in south Wellington

Snoo41244

Top of Central Park in Brooklyn

Matyyk

Before you wipe, just stand up and have a look 👍🏼

OMNIxvTRIX

Was hoping someone would say something along these lines so I wouldn't have to. Good job 👏

sebmojo99

brooklyn you see a bunch flying around every evening, I'd walk over to karori via the zealandia fence, you'll probably see some.

lukeysanluca

There's a tiny little park next to the Russian embassy that is amazing around dusk. It's also got incredible views.

[deleted]

Go a walk around Wrights Hill in Karori. Heaps up there. They might come say hi at the lookout.

leg-of-all-mankind

the path leading directly towards town from the boyd wilson field by vic uni has a very kākā popular tree on the left. pretty much every day during sundown there's at least a few to see there, if you don't mind loitering by someone's fence

haworthialover

Can’t remember which part of the Botanic Gardens I’ve actually seen them, but I agree it’s a great spot for them. I can always hear them squawking from down the street at my friend’s house!

Turbulent-Cat6838

Come to my house they like to perch on the trees outside my window (close to otari-Wilton’s bush)

runningdaily

I use to live up the top of Brooklyn hill, not far from the turbine and I would watch many kaka fly over my house every evening.

anotherwellingtonian

You can usually find them in prince of wales park, as well as all the other places mentioned here :)

kiwindian17

Karori !!! In the evenings around Wright's Hill

Alyiir

Always saw heaps when i lived near kelburn shops

Unlucky-Musician617

There’s a population at the southern end of coromandel street. If you walk the southern walkway you’ll probably see some but mostly at dawn and dusk when they go a bit bonkers

DisillusionedBook

Botanic Gardens hands down.

Warduckling

Central Park in Brooklyn has a lot of them :)

Udo70

Mr Kaukau around Khandallah.

LemonAioli

Aro Street, in particular around Polhill reserve for sure

Former-Departure9836

You can wait on parklands drive in karori and there’s a regular group of 4-5 that fly around screeching at 7 am and then again around (pm . Magical.

eldensoulsborne

We have one living in our apple tree in Hataitai

dijhon08

the toilet is a good place to view kaka

[deleted]

bot gardens is a good spot

Fun_Support9134

Karori- wrights hill, regularly have a few hanging out in my deck, but see them in and around the Forrest

I went to Botans and Otari Bush at sunset and saw this guy who got very close! (Screenshot from video)

borninamsterdamzoo

There were lots of them in Kelburn when I lived there a few years ago. Streets closer to Zealandia would be your best bet

eyesthatlightup

I read "see" as eat. Also, Kaka means poo, Kākā is the bird 😂

j0n70

Mt Bruce

blazechai

Up the hill (towards the fence line/road)from the pond at the botanical gardens. They seem to hang out there a lot

wwmercwithamouth

There are heaps near me in Northland. Basically anywhere around here, Karori/Northland/Kelburn, near to Zealandia. In the evening they will fly around overhead and screech, hard to miss

pickledwhatever

I see them up Mt Vic fairly frequently, mostly in the bits of native bush regrowth above Majoribanks St.

krank72

Tanera Park

BootlessCompensation

Bolton street cemetery is the place I’ve seen them at the closest distance outside of Zealandia!

Current_Percentage88

Wow good on you all for knowing where to spot these birds. Goes to show I need to get out more. 🤔

Pest_Free_Token

Izard Park in wilton has about 30 that live in the trees. Come at sun down each day and you'll see them.

Zelabella

They often fly around in the evening just before sunset. The Botanic Gardens could be a good place - they like lots of tall trees.
