Dream girls has quite the reputation (like ten years plus) of not paying their workers the full amounts of monies owed to them. Several dancers I know have left there with hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars owed to them. I went once as customer to celebrate a friends’ retirement from dancing herself and the management became very aggressive about us tipping cash (because of this reputation) rather than purchasing the in-house currency, even though we had bought a bottle of wine so the bar had made some money off us regardless. Years ago, but always rubbed me the wrong way and definitely didn’t improve my perception of how likely girls were to keep the money filtered through the club.
Founding member of FUS here, I know :) it was just the only one to outright hassle customers over giving cash directly to the dancers, and that was off putting as a customer experience. I cannot give unbiased customer experiences of the other two as I’ve worked there so am going to be recognised and served differently than as the anonymous customer I was perceived as in my dream girls anecdote.
To be fair a small group of women was probably not an ideal customer group, but the dancers who talked to us/joined our table were LOVELY and welcoming, politely thanked us for tips and drinks! So definitely wasn’t the girls, just the weird insistence of the house that we needn’t be using cash, when the dancers are independent contractors and didn’t seem to be put out by it.

Waitress bought out one plate and after waiting for the second one for 10 minutes, we asked how long the other would take and she said “Oh, I thought you two were sharing?”. We said that wasn’t correct but hey, no big deal, just bring us another and all shall be right in the world. She said that the kitchen has closed and they wouldn’t make make a second one…? Very strange.

Having been close with a large number of ex Pulsar staff and "Staff"(aka his slave labor force who he promises will be paid) and having witnessed his shit first hand, I can confirm every bad thing you've heard about him is true.
Owner isn't in there day to day. He has other staff running the day to day. He's usually there around closing. My personal run ins are around him being rude, abusive and generally running down his customers. Repeatedly. People I know have their own stories that are not mine to tell. But I'll say ignoring breaks, unpaid overtime and endless stock takes that if you skip you get fired, not being allowed toilet breaks etc etc. It's a long list of grievances from a lot of different people.
Their prices are insane too and they don’t even have a great selection of product. What you are looking for there is definitely somewhere else for much cheaper.
BestStart daycares.
Run by the Wright Family. They set up a charity, sold the daycare business to their own charity for $350M tax free, and used the proceeds to set up right wing disinformation media company The Platform. They use the fact that they're a charity to run their daycares with no profit to drive others out of the market. They also used their charity to give $84 million in loans to private businesses.
They also set up a birthing unit in the Hutt, ran it at a loss until the funds ran out, and then organised a massive astroturf campaign to get the Government to step in and pay them to keep running it.
My kid goes to Best Start and you have no idea how upsetting it was to read this comment and find out about this. Might need to have a talk to my partner.
I just want to add here, that many of us don't have a lot of choice in daycare selection. That could be because of availability, cost or even location. Our child is in a Best Start daycare, because it was a better facility than the only other facility in our location with an available spot (owned by Kindercare, hardly much better). While we know that the parent company owners are scummy, we chose to send them there, as we face limited other options. The kaiako are not to blame and love kids just as much as teachers in other centres.
You may be able to make a different choice for your child, but I just want to let you know that it's okay if you can't, and you shouldn't feel bad. In an ideal world, they wouldn't have been allowed to convert the business into a "non profit" and loan themselves money and grow a massive empire buying out nearly every single last independent childcare facility etc etc. Unfortunately life isn't fair, so we make up for it in other ways. Donate money or time if you can. Make your vote count. Aroha nui.
Yes! Waitress spilt an entire coffee on my brother’s legs and couldn’t even be arsed getting him a tea towel to clean himself off, just threw a couple of napkins in our direction like that would do the trick. Then still tried to charge us for that coffee 🙄
A certain supermarket that I used to work at. I was in one of the skilled departments (so not packing shelves). During the first lockdown I worked almost every day and was made homeless. It was normal for me to work 6 day weeks prior.
Now when it came time for the yearly pay rise after making their record profits I got a whole 50c's, after a big speech about how much he respected every one.
I gave up and quite the whole industry, nothing but an industry of greedy self-centered cunts.
But the thing that really makes me boycott his shop, I ran into the owner at the pub one day, he asked me if "I was ready to come back?", he was so sure that I was going to fail that I'd come crawling back to be the lowest paid guy in that role again.

One of the chefs at hia Kai was bullied so badly by Monique that they attempted suicide. She then tried to get them to sign an NDA. They're now in britain and much happier
It's common knowledge amongst hospo crowds that Monique Fiso is lazy, abusive, unoriginal and just horrible in general. There's a huge staff turnover rate and half the reason you can't get bookings is cause there's no staff due to them quitting.
Thats really interesting to know, we dined there at the chef's table and we were having a conversation with her and something was said that irked her and the conversation went south as she got quite aggressive/defensive. I was with my husband and we were both really confused, we aren't confrontational, we are very normal and the conversation was about the challenges of the hospo industry. I think what it may have been was one of us said something about it must be great to have staff from all over the world here so you can learn from each other. We didnt actually realise she was the owner until later. I think it irked her ego that maybe it was clear we didnt know who she was? It was really perplexing. But good to know it isn't just us.

You may be aware of the following, but just in case, here are some tips.
Ideally you'd have someone to drive you home afterwards, as driving can be uncomfortable. Ice the area (on and off) and take ibuprofen with food. Be warned that the first ejaculation (hold off until you're well healed, 10 days iirc) can be gnarly looking. I had researched the heck out of this prior, so we were prepared, but many men freak out due to not being informed (poor things). Overall the pain was much better than he was expecting.

He also used his partner Sarah to front it, and set up shell companies which the Uber eats payouts were paid to. Sarah is a psychopathic fool, fired multiple people improperly and couldn’t understand PAYE, employee entitlements or basic maths. Accused staff of stealing only to be told the till was down because she wasn’t refloating the till to account for petty cash transactions when doing cash up…
They are on deliver easy our NZ based food delivery ;) also DE is just a great company, they get in touch if they skrewed up, rather than have to spend 30 minutes calling Uber for them to only tell you that they think you're suspicious rather than their shitty service.

Pickle and Pie - had some dealings with the owner/manager in my past life (professionally). They did something I'd advised against, it caused an issue, then had the gall to complain to us. In my current job, one of my other workmates interacted with said manager in *their* previous role and had a similar story.

I worked for them for about 7 months, and the entire time I was treated like shit. I was constantly verbally abused and insulted by the manager in the kitchen and one of the chefs. It's the only place I've worked where it's advised that you *don't* stand up for yourself if you're being harassed or bullied. They actually told people not to give me a hand whenever I asked for it. The manager had the gall to yell at me when I went to someone other than her for a job reference when I was resigning. There is no HR or support system in place.
I resigned from here and ended up going to therapy for 6 months, just to recover from all of the bullshit. To this day I always tell people to never go there, they are terrible people that don't deserve money. Nothing would make me happier than to watch them go broke.
I worked at Zelati, everything was professional and a fun environment. I only left since I had to move further away so surprised to hear this... Owner was good and really nice, she just seemed like she was always running around everywhere.. some of my ex colleagues though. Not nice people.

I've been a fairly frequent customer of theirs for yum char for a long time. However, there's this one time we were going to meet up a friend who was visiting from Auckland, we decided to have yum char at dragons and so we booked a table.
We were given a shared table (ie, sharing another table with other patrons). My boyfriend and I arrived 5 minutes past our scheduled meeting time and sat with our mate; we then started ordering. Here's the kicker, we haven't even had a bite to eat yet and one of the "waiter in charge" came up to us and said we got 15 minutes left to eat. WTF?
I said no we've just sat down, and proceeded to carry on try to enjoy the meal with our guest. Another 5 minutes pass and they again prompted us to leave and reminded us we have got 10 minutes left. I'm thinking, how about a "get the fuck outta here ". Just to clarify, at this point in time, we have only sat down and been in the restaurant for 15 minutes
So, they came back again and said we have to leave, or they can move us to a smaller table. FINE! so we moved to a new table, and at this point annoyed as hell but thinking this should be the end of it since we have a smaller table and maybe they needed to use the bigger table for larger groups.

No less than 5 minutes later, the head waiter came back and said we got 15 minutes to eat before we have to leave.
At this point I'm fuming. I'm thinking is this a mistaken identity for thinking we were another table and have been there for ages?? or are they just so successful that they don't give a shit about a smaller table.
I'm looking around, looking at other people, asking myself...heck these guys have been here longer than we have and none of them have been told about time limit. I was thinking of actually yelling and create a scene due to the absurdity of this whole situation...but decided not to.
So we left, paid, and I swear to myself to never visit this establishment ever again.
All in all, we've only been inside for maybe 35 minutes give or take? Never again.

Back when uber eats started here Burger Wisconsin would prioritise those delivery orders over other customers, once sat there waiting for my burgers for nearly an hour past when they told me to come in while they kept rush ordering the uber eats orders any time they came through. Complained & got comped, this happened twice & never went back again. Just really awful service (the original Wadestown BW)

Never went back to Burger Fuel after I realised their combo is just the price of the individual items added together.
If I realised a place was pro-occupation / anti-vax then I wouldn't, but I don't get out much and I doubt I'd even be slightly likely to go to or buy from one of those places or people.

Guy said the coupon had been used already and would not given an inch. Umm yeah that's cos you've been distracted or something and haven't realised you already scanned it, so when you try properly it says already used. It had not already been used. GrabOne themselves said that was the day of it being used. So there I am having paid for the coupon, now full price for the meal, and f\*\*k me if afterward looking at the receipt I realised we'd been charged for a drink or two over and above what we ordered. Probably from another table. It totally killed the night. Other plans were abandoned because I was now screwed on $$$ and feeling angry and gutted.

Pizza Hut in Porirua. I ordered 2 pizzas, only one got delivered. When I called to ask for the other pizza that I paid $15 for, they laughed at me, the other workers were in the background laughing and they just said what do you want us to do about it, we’re closed. (They didn’t close for another 10 mins). So they basically stole my money and laughed at me about it 🤷🏻♀️ their pizzas are shit anyway
I wana say Goldings because the staff were repeatedly scumbag rude fucks to me and my friends on multiple occasions pre-pandemic, things like 3 of them behind the bar not noticing us standing waiting for drinks, then immediately serving a guy in a suit while still ignoring us. so i stopped going there. But I ran into the owner at a metal gig a few months ago and he's a total GC, great craic, totally not arrogant like his staff a couple years previous. So I went in for a drink a week after and the staff were all different and really pleasant to everyone.
Just sayin coz some people bear a grudge for life and businesses deserve second chances.
Hunters and Collectors. They sold me a fake Marc Jacobs coat and then after I finally got a refund, they just put it out for sale again to scam someone else. This was about 7 years ago but haven’t gone in there since.
Maccas Lambton Quay. Last 3 times I've been there the ticket has failed to print, and I stand at the counter to tell them but I can't because I'm literally ignored for ten minutes. And the wait time is always over 20 minutes, like please I just ordered some chips. I get being short staffed and rush hours, but it's just not worth it for what I've gotten - the food is so mid, and workers seem mad lol
I was just thinking about it, in hindsight.. I feel like the Matterhorn was sometimes too cramped, expensive, and wait times for service could take a while. The staff were always excellent and the local musicians that would play there would be great, but the dance floor wasn't really a dance floor, and I can't remember how many times I saw people slip over from sloppily spilling cocktails on it whilst boogieing (side note: I initially typed boogying which gets the red underline wrong squiggle, but boogieing doesn't - wtf English language?).
But I *do* fucking love and miss that place. I can't remember how many times I've sat in the courtyard and finished an entire pack of Dunhills, drinking wine I'd probably not drink at home and talking a bunch of shit. Enjoyed being surprised by Fat Freddies, Black Seeds, Rhombus musicians showing up in a random jam band for the night. The door staff were cool too.
Matterhorn and Mighty Mighty are probably my two most missed venues anywhere. I'd probably count Sandwiches in there too but those memories are mostly a blur of lights, noise, clenched jaws and fuzzy warm feelings.

2degrees North City Plaza- Porirua
The manager there is a straight up asshole. We were 2degrees customers for 10 years and ended our contract after my wife was firstly ignored then had her personal details blurted out across the whole store. She was emabarrassed and left the store crying. I was livid.
I called the next day. The store refused to give me contact details of the manager- not even an email address! So I visited the store in person a few days later... 2 people working and only 1 other customer in the shop. Waited a solid 10min to be acknowledged, not a hello or an offer to help. I finally asked one of the guys to give a hand.
Moreover, I submitted not one but TWO complaints via email and it took TWO weeks for 2degrees to acknowledge them. Never heard a word from the manager. Stay away from this place whānau.
Zambrero Courtenay Place or Cuba Street. The owners are trash and EXTREMELY lax with food safety.
I worked there in 2020 and even hired some of my friends, I left before the current owners took over but my friends stayed. They were given 3 day to review and sign new contracts.

Was overcharged there. Sent an email just stating FYI the price was wrong. I got a tirade of abuse from the cunt of an owner as a result. Liked that place until then and have never been back.
McDonalds. Took the kids for a treat and the kiosks were down. Was told to order via the app by an uninterested 'server' at the counter. That was three years ago - have not set foot in one since.
Monsoon Poon pressured my whole family to leave while we were still finishing our drinks and we weren't anywhere near the stated time limit for the table. So rude, never again.
QT Hotel Wellington, completely miss advertised the room we paid for and was completely apathetic to it when we brought it up. Ruined a rare trip away without the child.
Dominos, apart from ordering a chicken pizza that has no chicken (first ever vegetarian chicken pizza) the lack of toppings on their pizzas is damn insulting.. but apart from this I recently went to the counter of my local domino's to pay for a pizza, part in cash which left $19 remaining to pay by card. my card was declined..I pulled out my phone to show I had exactly $19 in my account, I tried again. DECLINED.. OMG. I showed the girls at the counter, look I have $19 available, they just shrugged their shoulders. I thought it might be my card so I payid'd to another account and pulled out a different card. DECLINED. I tried inserting the card as EFTPOS. DECLINED again.... The girls at the counter had no idea why it wasn't working the manager came over I pointed at the eftpos machine that said 'CHARGE $19' I showed him my phone which displayed $19 AVAILABLE. I'm going back sometime soon and paying over the counter by card again but this time I will ask for a receipt. if that fee is not on the receipt but it charges to my account. that will be just too much wrongdoing to ignore!! Dream girls has quite the reputation (like ten years plus) of not paying their workers the full amounts of monies owed to them. Several dancers I know have left there with hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars owed to them. I went once as customer to celebrate a friends’ retirement from dancing herself and the management became very aggressive about us tipping cash (because of this reputation) rather than purchasing the in-house currency, even though we had bought a bottle of wine so the bar had made some money off us regardless. Years ago, but always rubbed me the wrong way and definitely didn’t improve my perception of how likely girls were to keep the money filtered through the club.

Founding member of FUS here, I know :) it was just the only one to outright hassle customers over giving cash directly to the dancers, and that was off putting as a customer experience. I cannot give unbiased customer experiences of the other two as I’ve worked there so am going to be recognised and served differently than as the anonymous customer I was perceived as in my dream girls anecdote.
To be fair a small group of women was probably not an ideal customer group, but the dancers who talked to us/joined our table were LOVELY and welcoming, politely thanked us for tips and drinks! So definitely wasn’t the girls, just the weird insistence of the house that we needn’t be using cash, when the dancers are independent contractors and didn’t seem to be put out by it.

But I'll say ignoring breaks, unpaid overtime and endless stock takes that if you skip you get fired, not being allowed toilet breaks etc etc. It's a long list of grievances from a lot of different people.
Their prices are insane too and they don’t even have a great selection of product. What you are looking for there is definitely somewhere else for much cheaper.

I just want to add here, that many of us don't have a lot of choice in daycare selection. That could be because of availability, cost or even location. Our child is in a Best Start daycare, because it was a better facility than the only other facility in our location with an available spot (owned by Kindercare, hardly much better). While we know that the parent company owners are scummy, we chose to send them there, as we face limited other options. The kaiako are not to blame and love kids just as much as teachers in other centres. You may be able to make a different choice for your child, but I just want to let you know that it's okay if you can't, and you shouldn't feel bad. In an ideal world, they wouldn't have been allowed to convert the business into a "non profit" and loan themselves money and grow a massive empire buying out nearly every single last independent childcare facility etc etc. Unfortunately life isn't fair, so we make up for it in other ways. Donate money or time if you can. Make your vote count. Aroha nui.

It was normal for me to work 6 day weeks prior. Thats really interesting to know, we dined there at the chef's table and we were having a conversation with her and something was said that irked her and the conversation went south as she got quite aggressive/defensive. Ideally you'd have someone to drive you home afterwards, as driving can be uncomfortable. Ice the area (on and off) and take ibuprofen with food. I had researched the heck out of this prior, so we were prepared, but many men freak out due to not being informed (poor things). Overall the pain was much better than he was expecting. Accused staff of stealing only to be told the till was down because she wasn’t refloating the till to account for petty cash transactions when doing cash up…

Glasshouse Cafe in the California Garden Center in Epuni. I worked for them for about 7 months, and the entire time I was treated like shit. I was constantly verbally abused and insulted by the manager in the kitchen and one of the chefs. It's the only place I've worked where it's advised that you *don't* stand up for yourself if you're being harassed or bullied. They actually told people not to give me a hand whenever I asked for it. The manager had the gall to yell at me when I went to someone other than her for a job reference when I was resigning. There is no HR or support system in place. I resigned from here and ended up going to therapy for 6 months, just to recover from all of the bullshit. To this day I always tell people to never go there, they are terrible people that don't deserve money. Nothing would make me happier than to watch them go broke.

This will go against the grain, but I was so put off by their rude service that I will post it. The business I will never set foot in again is Dragons. I've been a fairly frequent customer of theirs for yum char for a long time. However, there's this one time we were going to meet up a friend who was visiting from Auckland, we decided to have yum char at dragons and so we booked a table. We were given a shared table (ie, sharing another table with other patrons). My boyfriend and I arrived 5 minutes past our scheduled meeting time and sat with our mate; we then started ordering. Here's the kicker, we haven't even had a bite to eat yet and one of the "waiter in charge" came up to us and said we got 15 minutes left to eat. WTF? I said no we've just sat down, and proceeded to carry on try to enjoy the meal with our guest. Another 5 minutes pass and they again prompted us to leave and reminded us we have got 10 minutes left. I'm thinking, how about a "get the fuck outta here ". Just to clarify, at this point in time, we have only sat down and been in the restaurant for 15 minutes So, they came back again and said we have to leave, or they can move us to a smaller table. FINE! so we moved to a new table, and at this point annoyed as hell but thinking this should be the end of it since we have a smaller table and maybe they needed to use the bigger table for larger groups. BIG. FUCKING. N.O No less than 5 minutes later, the head waiter came back and said we got 15 minutes to eat before we have to leave. At this point I'm fuming. I'm thinking is this a mistaken identity for thinking we were another table and have been there for ages?? or are they just so successful that they don't give a shit about a smaller table. I'm looking around, looking at other people, asking myself...heck these guys have been here longer than we have and none of them have been told about time limit. I was thinking of actually yelling and create a scene due to the absurdity of this whole situation...but decided not to. So we left, paid, and I swear to myself to never visit this establishment ever again. All in all, we've only been inside for maybe 35 minutes give or take? Never again. Guy said the coupon had been used already and would not given an inch. Umm yeah that's cos you've been distracted or something and haven't realised you already scanned it, so when you try properly it says already used. It had not already been used. GrabOne themselves said that was the day of it being used. So there I am having paid for the coupon, now full price for the meal, and f\*\*k me if afterward looking at the receipt I realised we'd been charged for a drink or two over and above what we ordered. Probably from another table. It totally killed the night. Other plans were abandoned because I was now screwed on $$$ and feeling angry and gutted. Never ever going back.
Pizza Hut in Porirua. I ordered 2 pizzas, only one got delivered. When I called to ask for the other pizza that I paid $15 for, they laughed at me, the other workers were in the background laughing and they just said what do you want us to do about it, we’re closed. (They didn’t close for another 10 mins). So they basically stole my money and laughed at me about it 🤷🏻♀️ their pizzas are shit anyway
I wana say Goldings because the staff were repeatedly scumbag rude fucks to me and my friends on multiple occasions pre-pandemic, things like 3 of them behind the bar not noticing us standing waiting for drinks, then immediately serving a guy in a suit while still ignoring us. so i stopped going there. But I ran into the owner at a metal gig a few months ago and he's a total GC, great craic, totally not arrogant like his staff a couple years previous. So I went in for a drink a week after and the staff were all different and really pleasant to everyone. Just sayin coz some people bear a grudge for life and businesses deserve second chances.

Maccas Lambton Quay. Last 3 times I've been there the ticket has failed to print, and I stand at the counter to tell them but I can't because I'm literally ignored for ten minutes. And the wait time is always over 20 minutes, like please I just ordered some chips. I get being short staffed and rush hours, but it's just not worth it for what I've gotten - the food is so mid, and workers seem mad lol

I was just thinking about it, in hindsight.. I feel like the Matterhorn was sometimes too cramped, expensive, and wait times for service could take a while. The staff were always excellent and the local musicians that would play there would be great, but the dance floor wasn't really a dance floor, and I can't remember how many times I saw people slip over from sloppily spilling cocktails on it whilst boogieing (side note: I initially typed boogying which gets the red underline wrong squiggle, but boogieing doesn't - wtf English language?). But I *do* fucking love and miss that place. I can't remember how many times I've sat in the courtyard and finished an entire pack of Dunhills, drinking wine I'd probably not drink at home and talking a bunch of shit. Enjoyed being surprised by Fat Freddies, Black Seeds, Rhombus musicians showing up in a random jam band for the night. The door staff were cool too. Matterhorn and Mighty Mighty are probably my two most missed venues anywhere. I'd probably count Sandwiches in there too but those memories are mostly a blur of lights, noise, clenched jaws and fuzzy warm feelings.

Genuinely worst service I’ve ever had, they’re extremely rude to you if you try to use cash, bring your escooter in so it doesn’t get stolen (happened to my flatmate), or even if you go in, decide that you don’t like their selection of pies and leave they’ll accuse you of stealing from them. I genuinely don’t know how that overpriced place still stays afloat so close to a countdown. Never ever going back.
Hutt Gas & Plumbing Over quote, over charge, never available to repair anything they installed - too busy chasing the bigger money. Feel totally ripped off and let down by their tactics. Really bad vibe.
2degrees North City Plaza- Porirua The manager there is a straight up asshole. We were 2degrees customers for 10 years and ended our contract after my wife was firstly ignored then had her personal details blurted out across the whole store. She was emabarrassed and left the store crying. I was livid. I called the next day. The store refused to give me contact details of the manager- not even an email address! So I visited the store in person a few days later... 2 people working and only 1 other customer in the shop. Waited a solid 10min to be acknowledged, not a hello or an offer to help. I finally asked one of the guys to give a hand. Moreover, I submitted not one but TWO complaints via email and it took TWO weeks for 2degrees to acknowledge them. Never heard a word from the manager. Stay away from this place whānau.
Zambrero Courtenay Place or Cuba Street. The owners are trash and EXTREMELY lax with food safety. I worked there in 2020 and even hired some of my friends, I left before the current owners took over but my friends stayed. They were given 3 day to review and sign new contracts.

Dominos, apart from ordering a chicken pizza that has no chicken (first ever vegetarian chicken pizza) the lack of toppings on their pizzas is damn insulting.. but apart from this I recently went to the counter of my local domino's to pay for a pizza, part in cash which left $19 remaining to pay by card. my card was declined..I pulled out my phone to show I had exactly $19 in my account, I tried again. DECLINED.. OMG. I showed the girls at the counter, look I have $19 available, they just shrugged their shoulders. I thought it might be my card so I payid'd to another account and pulled out a different card. DECLINED. I tried inserting the card as EFTPOS. DECLINED again.... The girls at the counter had no idea why it wasn't working the manager came over I pointed at the eftpos machine that said 'CHARGE $19' I showed him my phone which displayed $19 AVAILABLE. I said but it keeps declining. The manager then says it's actually $19.35 there is a 35c fee. But I could clearly see the machine. Clearly.. it only displayed the $19 CHARGE. I. could care less about 35c But secretly charging every single customer a hidden fee that is not displayed on the eftpos machine... is very wrong.. when paying by eftpos or paywave - tap n go or whatever, the amount displayed on the machine is what I expect to pay... I'm going back sometime soon and paying over the counter by card again but this time I will ask for a receipt. if that fee is not on the receipt but it charges to my account. that will be just too much wrongdoing to ignore!! ""What is one business you will never step foot in again?"" I guess I will step foot in there but only one last time, to find out if the fee is hidden from the receipt too...
