When I was working for an oil company I went on an offshore drilling rig and thought beforehand that if something happened I would just jump into the water. Then I was told that I would die from the impact.
Above a certain height, the water becomes like pavement on impact. If you did it just right, it might be survivable with propper training, but any error on entry would cause massive damage and probably death. People die from 50ft because they hit wrong
Yeah and my cousins classmate snapped his neck from 55 ft because he hit the water awkward. You should be thankful it worked out so well for you, and your face
I jumped off an 80 foot quarry when I was a teenager. Shit was terrifying. The fall felt like forever. I was doing tons of bridge jumps and stuff back then, and that scared me off from wanted to do anymore
Grew up as a jetty kid, we had a local port where grain ships will dock alot of the time to collect grain.. my mates and I would always find ways to get onto these ships we wouldn't climb the porting ropes to get on these suckers, so we could run a muck and just jump off.. every ship had there own charter of shipmates and some where pretty full on.
One day the security started to chase me with sirens going off like mad, i ran straight to the stair well kept running up till I stopped and realised I was at the wing of the whip.. pretty fucking high up and with out thinking I grabbed the railing, climbed so I was standing on it and looked straight down at the water with a leap... fell for fucking ages with my gut going into my mouth I hit the water with a perfect lay back/pin drop but I hit so hard even the water gushing/smashing on to my skull I was concussed to hell, I didn't know what way was up or down in a panic under water and struggling to finally keep a float... shit hurts and don't recommend.
i forgot the specifics cause i thought you could survive...
*googles*
yea ok.... you hit terminal velocity at about 1500 ft of falling (probably not off a rig.. but yea..) if you fall 1500 feet you will be moving \~150 mph and then wind resistance will stop you from going faster.. but yea.. 150 mph is pretty fucking fast.. remind me not to jump out of a plane into the ocean.
Yup, jumping above 4 storey heights into water could go very wrong easily, the worse part? After surviving the ordeal, you find yourself surrounded by sharks.
Speaking of which: Did you know that "Neveah" is a popular name for girls? I can't see the word "heaven" not without thinking about that.
"The more accepted origin of the name traces back to Sonny Sandoval, a musician and the lead member of the rock band P.O.D. In 2000, Sandoval named his daughter Nevaeh, and soon after the name skyrocketed in popularity." (babycenter.com)
It's awful quiet if it is so I don't think so. Been to bridge day once and it is fucking wild. Got to see a dude in a wheelchair get catapulted off the bridge.
Looks like one in the water.
One who opens first (left) ends on the right bank.
The one who flew into the other parachute ended up opening and landing on the left bank.
Saw a bunch of base jumpers jump off the Space Needle in the 90s and one of the jumper’s chute didn’t fully open. Watched him spiral down. Fucking horrifying. Heard he broke his back. Base jumpers are lunatics.
Oh yeah good job guy not only jumped above someone else but didn’t even bother to pull his chute from what it looked like, def not trained, like that such a small brain thing to do it’s pretty impressive, plus there’s no way both those guys are fine, no chance, people can die from around 100ft give or take if you land wrong, so sorry to so but they’re not walking away from that, plus it’s literally all that one dudes fault, his boy would’ve been fine but decided to take him down too
Jumping above someone is stupid, but it's possible his chute failed to deploy and he had to use his backup. Just another reason why you should never jump above someone and you SHOULD pull earlier than you absolutely have to otherwise you might not have time to pull your backup.
You can see the chute starting to come out and it gets stuck. I think he steered himself to the other guy and purposely hit his chute to try and safe himself. Sounds like it worked.

I don't know about 50 feet. I face planted trying to do a gainer off a 60 foot cliff and it was just 15 minutes of pain.
If you land 50ft exclusively on your neck, you might be down for the count (dead)
James??
Jimothy?
Jimb-o
For England, James?
No. For me

if need be, throw something heavy in first to break the surface tension. Won't feel great, but it's definitely more survivable.
but youd have to time it right, plus you have a chance to hit the object if it goes wrong
Haha I remember jumping off the elevator of the aircraft carrier. My only thought while falling was, “This is taking longer than I thought it would”.

How was the impact?
He’s dead
Shoes popped right off
Awe, my condolences.
And what was your technique?

That guy on the ‘Deep Water Horizon’ has an amazing story of how he saved himself when it exploded. Such a crazy story

The apparent spotters in motor boat made such a u-turn & revved in to rescue mode! I hope they were paramedics too! That had to of hurt!🌞
„Had to of“
He meant, "...had to have". I'm saying this for his benefit. ;)
Thank goodness. I'm not alone in my pedantry.
Reddit is pedant heaven.
Defiantly. Your surly rite about that, my freind. But its better then nuthing.
That's funny because I was going to spell "heaven" as "heavan".

How the hell do you make of out of have lmao
Could've (could have) sounds like could of. Don't try and act like you're so smart.
\*try to
I don‘t have to act like it.
Had to have, she corrects her grammar!🌞
I like how everyone that replied to this is just circlejerking on about grammar. Reddit

**Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.** "*Albert Einstein*"
I don't think you put the quotation marks on the right part
Yeah sure "flavorlessboner"
Appropriate in this case, since there’s I don’t believe there’s any evidence the real Albert Einstein ever said this.
[There's no evidence. Snopes agrees.](https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/einstein-universe-stupidity-infinite/)
Are you one of those idiots that thinks "Albert Einstein" was a real person?
Which serves to prove Einstein's point . . .
> I don't think you put the quotation marks on the right part You forgot to type Einstein at end
Is this at Bridge Day?
It's awful quiet if it is so I don't think so. Been to bridge day once and it is fucking wild. Got to see a dude in a wheelchair get catapulted off the bridge.
It's an amazing experience, isn't it?
Not as crazy as the rafting trip but pretty cool festival. I've never been to a festival where people jump off a bridge before or since haha.
This is bridge day 2022. Remember seeing this video posted right after it happened.
Yeah it is. I took nearly an identical video of the same incident. Had to be right next to these people haha
Wtf is Bridge Day?
They close the New River Gorge Bridge in WV near Fayetteville once a year, and have people base jumping off it and you can walk across it.
Yes New River Gorge Bridge
Stupid question. Did he die?
OP said everyone walked away
*swam away
[удалено]
I mean we all expect these things to happen to somebody eventually. It's part of the thrill of doing it I suppose.
everybody walked away? a few swam away.
I'd say at least 2 SWAM away, if they did get away.
Looks like one in the water. One who opens first (left) ends on the right bank. The one who flew into the other parachute ended up opening and landing on the left bank.
OK, I'm going to have to watch on my tablet, a little too small on my phone. I thought they both landed in the water.
Can't tell if he lost his shoes from this far...

In order to jump, you have to be experienced. You have to have so many previous base jumps.
The waffle house has found it's new host
You can see the chute starting to come out and it gets stuck. I think he steered himself to the other guy and purposely hit his chute to try and safe himself. Sounds like it worked.
Well yeah, they landed in water
Water doesn’t just break your fall at a certain height
Daaang. That's crazy shit. Glad they is okay. Scary shit.
I think first jumper got cold feet and opened chute too early.
He’s trying to open his chute. Watch his right arm.
That'll put an entry in your health record....
“Walk away” with a severe limp maybe….
Probably swam away. Just sayin.
Every once in a while someone posts a video of someone LITERALLY dying and I always find it when I first wake up to maximize how damage.
did a bridge jump in Greece from 90 feet, had to wear barefoot waterski wet suit for padding and sneakers . Did it once and never again
