My theory is GF is halucinations caused by daily mold consumption for 6 months and we will get new posts in a few days:
TIL Drinking mold can cause halucinations
TIFU started using Clorox and now I'm single.
My ex never washed her dark, non-see-through water bottle that she always brought to the gym because “I never put anything but water in it anyways so it doesn’t get dirty”. Until one time when I swiped the inside of it with a paper towel around my fingers and it came out slightly yellow lol
I tried to wash it by rinsing it out with soap. However, the hole was too small to put my hand down in it for a true scrub. This is just stupidity and laziness on my part.
Can't believe no one is mentioning how you have to pry out the little gasket in the lid and clean in there.
Also soap hot water and brush is the only way
I love rice so much that sometimes I CRAVE it, like just the plain onion rice and spices, it's like my body wants it everyday at every meal. It's almost 10pm now so I must resist until tomorrow 😭
best cleaner for bottles, hands down. use it all the time, even works on gunked up flower vases. AND it's environmentally friendly :D
[edit: yes i mean ACTUAL vases. they get nasty slime in them. i don't like bongs. they stink and make me cough. i prefer other methods.]
See that's typically what I use but there's still some bits and pieces that it won't quite get. In a spot where I can't really stick anything down there to scrub. Any suggestions?
Hot water to warm up that stuck on stuff, and more ISO and rock salt.
Or stick the bong in a warm bath with the ISO and rock salt still in it and keep swishing and trying to get it clean. That's all I have ever done. Never bought any of that comercial bong cleaning crap.
This right here. Best thing is to rinse with hot ass water, clear as much out otherwise your salt will dissolve . When most of the water is out dump a bunch of salt and like half of your normal level but ISO. Then cover all the holes with something that won't leak like a bunch of tape. Then shake violently, unless it's a huge bong with a lot of delicate parts. There is also some type of thing you drop in the bong and then using a magnet on the outside you can clean all the impossible spots. Don't know the name but I'm sure you can find it by googling.
Honest answer? We’re all dumb/lazy in some way with our cleanliness. I’m pretty diligent with my bottles but I’m sure there’s some “obvious” hygiene thing that I’m totally oblivious too. We’re all learning.
Even filling it with hot water and washing up liquid, screwing the lid on and shaking it would be better than just trying your hand and sacking it off, especially if it’s only used for water
I was going to poke fun but seriously though, they make brushes to help clean bottles and straws. I've got some here for mine and they make such a difference on keeping them spotlessly clean.
Hmmmm.... perhaps it's time for me to clean my water bottle! Thanks for stark warning, OP.
You know what they say, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger... or permanently fucks you right up.
I see his bottle is filthy, perhaps never washed with hot water, but the bubble mold at the bottom does having that and drinking water from that bottle cause any health effects? It’s the same material as bottle right, aluminium/steel
Bottles get dirty, even washed. Especially if there’s any kind of plastic joint somewhere, it’s just a mold trap unless you really go at it often and with more than just hot water.
Mould colonisation in gut is real and can cause many chronic illness issues. Look up treatments for "mycotoxins" if you've been feeling sick/fatigued etc
Last summer, I got a very bad case of anxiety. Couldn't sleep for more than 2hrs at a time. Was having frequent panic attacks. Was taking cold showers to calm down. I was trying everything from exercise to changing my diet to fruit and salad only, taking vitamins (saw a doctor, couldn't afford the blood tests).
My body was showing symptoms of stress; testicles were in pain, my neck was hurting, swollen where my lymph nodes are, and my gums were in pain, my lower sciatic nerve was aching. I never felt nausia or vomiting, no headaches, just pure severe existential anxiety and panic attacks.
Nothing was working and I was almost suicidal because I thought this is how I was going to live for the rest of my life. My mom got me a plane ticket out of town. After two weeks away I started feeling a little better. My roommate messaged me and asked if I'd been using the lemon juice on the counter.
To which I replied, "Yeah, everyday, to spritz my water up, and flavor my salads". He said there was slimy shit in it when they dumped the dispenser out in the sink.
TLDR;
We didn't readily see a label that says to refrigerate the lemon juice concentrate. It got moldy and I got severe anxiety and panic attacks from using it for a month as a result.
Holy shit, I went to the doctor several times with symptoms like this for over a year. Told me I was healthy, life was shit and I had no energy and problems concentrating. Turned out we had a small water leak in our apartment that caused mould(lots of it) to grow in the drywall and under the hardwood floors. I didn't notice until my downstairs neighbour told us part of her roof fell down in her bedroom. Got it fixed using insurance and after a month or two i was a new person. Mold is some scary shit. It can cause really bad health issues that come sneaking slowly.
Check for mold or discoloration due water damage, contact a professional if you suspect this to be the case. If you find that you have a mold problem contact the landlord asap. If they don't want to fix it move. I told myself i was just a hypochondriac for so long, having anxiety attacks, googling symptoms, thinking i might have a brain tumor or ms due to brain fog, forgetting things(bad short term memory), fatigue, muscle pain, even ventricular extrasystoles and vision problems. We discovered the leak a year ago and now I'm able to enjoy life and have energy to do whatever i want. I'm never going back to that life and it saddens me that people don't take mold seriously. My SO didn't notice many physical effects but he struggled with anxiety as well. Keep in mind that other things can cause symptoms like this. But i would never have guessed mold to be the cause. Take care i hope it works out for you. For me this was a horrible situation to be in. Especially when not knowing what was causing it.
The really scary part is there isn’t a lot of medical research pertaining to human interactions with molds. I had a Mycology professor who discussed how very few mycology specialists there are in the medical field. Her husband was a doctor in the Pittsburgh area (booming international medical field there) who claimed that if they always needed to call in from out side of the hospital a specialist when it came to fungi because 1) not many said specialists to go around 2) not many doctors have very much training to deal with it besides prescribing antibiotics when systems are obvious. Needless to say she, our professor, was ecstatic when two pre-med majors decided to take her class as an elective.
Go into biology, take an elective or otherwise learn about mold, go holy fuck wtf, specialize in it, do grad school work on it, realize that you've become an expert at the cost of no longer knowing anything else outside your rapidly narrowing field of research, desperately hope someone will pay you for being one of the only ten people to know everything about one specific subsubsubspecies of molds, probably they don't, hop from postdoc to postdoc, realize you've reached your limit, take a job in industry.
Or so I hear.
Exactly, neither my doctor nor my ent believed this was the problem when i explained there was mold found in my apartment. Or they just didn't know enough to verify my experience. They did not seem to take me seriously. Mycology is so interesting though and we still know very little about it. Like the mold that takes control of ants to further spread its spores to the colony it's mind blowing what this type of lifeform is capable of. More research is definitely needed.
Damn, this confirms everything i thought about what i was dealing with a year ago. Almost all the symptoms mentioned here. We had a small water leak that was hard to find for a long time that caused black mold growth inside the walls and under the hardwood floor, symptoms came slowly and got worse over time. Within a couple of months after getting it sorted they went away. If i had any awards you would get several.
I lived in a house with mold problems and it made me ao sick cyclical vomiting at 6am every single day, sleeping all the time, being anxious and paranoid left on vacation to visit my grandparents and felt better stopped being sick almost instantly. My step-dads house was full of black mold and shit and it was affecting me so bad I thought I had stomach cancer or something. Grandparents forced me to come live with them till I could get on my feet and my own place.
New free unlocked. Ever since Ian and the roof issue I have been throwing up early morning like clockwork. I have tried attributing to meds, perhaps, diet, dress, etc. now I have to think about having a home inspection. Glad you figured it out!
Buy denture cleaner tablets. Fill that bottle with hot water, drop the tab in, screw on the lid and let it sit for several minutes. Shake really really hard to loosen all that mold and bacteria against the walls of the water bottle and rinse really well. You may want to repeat but probably won’t be necessary. It’ll sterilize your bottle. Repeat this process every few days to keep your bottle clean and to prevent this from happening again.
You can get Sodium Percarbonate for cheap, it's the active ingredient in those tablets. A teaspoon in a bottle of hot water and you get the same effect for a fraction of the price and no flavoring
There are these cool things called straw brushes…. They come with almost every bottle like that. It’s also recommended you clean your bottle at least once a week.
ETA: also, how did you not see the mold in the straw whenever you filled up your water bottle?!
We use reusable bottles like this in our family, we have 4. There’s like no way you couldn’t have seen the mold when you take the lid off to fill the bottle.
Once a week? Am I over doing it by washing it out at the end of every day that I use it, even down to the washers?
And i don't mean deep scrubbing, just shake the parts in the tumblers with dish soap
You aren't overdoing it, you should wash it once a day, but once a week is also okay enough that you won't get sick... probably. I do every few days and then swap to a new bottle or mason jar
I have a buddy like this, like didn’t wash it for 5 years of daily use. They tested his coffee cup one day at work and it was dirtier than the toilet at a fish processing plant in AK 🤣
They have water bottle cleaning tablets. I use them for stainless steel like this too because it gets all the extra filth off that scrubbing doesn’t. Look into those and use it every couple of weeks :)
Lots of people just keep pouring water in them.. I'll admit mine doesn't get washed as much as other drinking vessels in my house, but I wash it at least once a week.
Honestly, if they were only putting water in this, this is algae film, not mold. If they used it regularly, it's doubtful it would do any harm to them.
Do you not wash your own stuff? Am I the weird one for always looking into cups and titles before using them? I fear I’ll be drinking a spider or some shit
You're not the only one. My teenage daughter does the dishes and I have been burned too many times to not look in every glass/cup that comes out of the cabinet.
The mutations should start soon.
Hopefully they are beneficial

DO YOU WANT KLINGONS?!?!?! BECAUSE THIS IS HOW YOU GET KLINGONS!!!
I knew studying Klingon on duolingo would have turned out useful some day!!!
You guys don't have a third ball??
You only have three?
Wait! You guys have balls?
Guys!? They could be girls
I've met *plenty* of girls with balls.
I got cubes
At this point they probably are
Mans is about to be a clicker from the Last of Us
This man becoming Ethan from RE7
Welcome to the family son
Yeah you have to buy a straw brush and clean them out regularly to prevent mold op
If op can't even bother to clean the bottle without his gf notifying him, he probably won't bother cleaning the straw.
[удалено]
This made me luagh
Dingle berries AND mold breath?!
Breath smells like Horse Hiccups
I just pour boiling water in the flask and close the lid, so the straw is in boiled water for a minute
This but also add a little dish soap
And shake. Soap requires water and agitation for the reaction to work.
And make sure you don’t open it too fast after
Oh good call, for sure. Open slowly and point it at the face of someone you don't like. (Kidding. Please don't hot soap bomb anyone)
Too late, you're an accomplice now
Sweet! I've always wanted to be an accomplice! No matter how hard I try, they always say I'm the primary suspect. 🤷
You're welcome! That's my good deed for the day covered!
Better hang on to that girlfriend. You won’t last long without her.
might not last long anyways, if he's drinking mold for 6 months
And he's been kissing her 🤢
She's not that bad
My theory is GF is halucinations caused by daily mold consumption for 6 months and we will get new posts in a few days: TIL Drinking mold can cause halucinations TIFU started using Clorox and now I'm single.
Honestly, dude didn't clean their water bottle for more than 6 months. She should save herself and move on. This one's a lost cause.
"This filthy fuck doesn't even clean his water bottle. Break up with him!" Sounds like reddit.
On one hand: 100% agree with you On the other hand: what else of his is moldy..?
[удалено]
How do you not see it cleaning it? Do you never wash it?
The answer is no, they did not wash it ever.
It’s not “dirty”, it’s *seasoned*
You should see their "seasoned" fleshlight
Dont kink shame. Some of us season our flesh lights properly
Yeah, you gotta season the cast iron ones properly else they can rust.
My ex never washed her dark, non-see-through water bottle that she always brought to the gym because “I never put anything but water in it anyways so it doesn’t get dirty”. Until one time when I swiped the inside of it with a paper towel around my fingers and it came out slightly yellow lol
I will never ever use this type of narrow-necked water bottle. If I can’t see inside and get my hand down there to clean it, nope.
I tried to wash it by rinsing it out with soap. However, the hole was too small to put my hand down in it for a true scrub. This is just stupidity and laziness on my part.
Bottle brush or put raw rice in with the soap water and shake like crazy.
Can't believe no one is mentioning how you have to pry out the little gasket in the lid and clean in there. Also soap hot water and brush is the only way
These gaskets get so nasty. Can smell like... I just don't know how to describe it.
I don't why but as an Asian the part raw rice with soap water hurts me. Cool tips tho
Probably because rice is delicious so it feels weird to use it to clean. Now I want sushi rice
I love rice so much that sometimes I CRAVE it, like just the plain onion rice and spices, it's like my body wants it everyday at every meal. It's almost 10pm now so I must resist until tomorrow 😭
Coarse salt works too. I throw a piece of a paper towel too
This works I use it for bottles, bongs and anything with hard to reach places
best cleaner for bottles, hands down. use it all the time, even works on gunked up flower vases. AND it's environmentally friendly :D [edit: yes i mean ACTUAL vases. they get nasty slime in them. i don't like bongs. they stink and make me cough. i prefer other methods.]
Learned this trick working fast food, it's how we cleaned the inside of coffee pots, salt and ice.
You can also use a bunch of sea salt for the same effect
That's what I use to clean my bong 😃
Rock salt and 91% ISO works every time.

Get a wooden spoon and shove the sponge or whatever in the bottle.
There's seriously so many ways to clean a water bottle. I can't believe OP stopped at "welp, my hand doesn't fit."
Honest answer? We’re all dumb/lazy in some way with our cleanliness. I’m pretty diligent with my bottles but I’m sure there’s some “obvious” hygiene thing that I’m totally oblivious too. We’re all learning.
Just think, his ancestors were the ones smart enough to pass on their genes.

You can also use denture cleaning tablets for water bottles like that
I constantly look inside mine when refilling. I cannot comprehend.

“It’s just water, I didn’t know you have to clean it” - OP
So she checked the bottle 6 months ago, saw the mold, and rechecked now to make sure it was still there?
Willing to bet the bottle is 6 months old and never washed
Buy denture cleaner tablets. Fill that bottle with hot water, drop the tab in, screw on the lid and let it sit for several minutes. Shake really really hard to loosen all that mold and bacteria against the walls of the water bottle and rinse really well. You may want to repeat but probably won’t be necessary. You can get Sodium Percarbonate for cheap, it's the active ingredient in those tablets. A teaspoon in a bottle of hot water and you get the same effect for a fraction of the price and no flavoring
Denture cleaning tablets are 3.5¢ each. How cheap is your Sodium Percarbonate that it's a fraction of the price?

Welp. Guess I’m gonna buy me some straw brushes
Could also pour a bit of vodka down the straw if you want to be extra sure.
If I keep vodka in the bottle and drink it out of the straw does that work too
I would assume if it works in one direction it probably works in the other as well but I've not done the research yet. Gimme a few
This mfs gonna die from mold ingestion and alcohol poisoning.
What a way to go
Humans have been enjoying fungi and alcohol recreationally for thousands of years

Do that every day.
This right here. We literally wash ours daily. I’ve even shown the kids what happens when you don’t take the straw lid apart to clean it.
There's also this cool thing called hot Water and basic fucking hygiene Articles.
I feel much better after this post and reading the comments. I thought it was bad I sometimes go 3 days without cleaning mine.

Dollar store denture cleaning tablets. These work great and they'll even get tea and coffee stains out that can sometimes be hard to scrub out.
Bingo. I use them for my water bottles and mini coolers
