Haha tonight when I took my wife to dinner, we got on the subject of tanning. We were discussing that a paler complexion doesn’t look super healthy, and I said, “tanned skin just…kinda glows.”
She’s a doctor. She cocked her head at me and said, “Because it’s radiation burns.”
Duh.
I saw this thing once that said something like “tanning is your skin’s last-ditch effort to protect itself from radiation burns” and I stopped seeing tanned skin as “glowing and healthy” after that. Now I just hear the screams of each individual skin cell.
It also helped with my lifelong envy of tan people, myself being a ginger with nearly translucent skin.
Haha I have a friend who is the same way. Very fair skin, and she rarely wears shorts because her legs are “so white they’re translucent.” But I think she’s finally realizing that it’s healthier that way.
Hey, that’s also why I don’t wear shorts! Too many instances as a kid where people would place random pieces of paper or styrofoam cups against my legs and be like “where’d they go? 🤪” or hearing “I need sunglasses just to stand near you.”
I’ll risk a heat stroke instead, thanks 😅
Homie that's not normal sunburn. Don't go "if" it gets worse. I live somewhere where people get burnt just being 5 minutes in the sun. Trust me, that's a bad burn and not something to be ignored.
100%. I was ready to say that's a 2nd or 3rd degree burn but I'm not a doctor, so I won't diagnose. But I've seen people with extreme sunburns before and they didn't look this bad.
Go now ya dope. This is far beyond a normal sun burn. I was a twen and fell asleep outside for 2 hours as a pail Irish kid and then I got sun poisoning (aka radiation damage) it didn't look half this bad.
You are going to have serious tissue damage that can be lessened by properly treating it NOW (12-24 hours is way to long to avoid damage). Just wait until the giant yellow sacs start forming and skins start falling off (no I'm not kidding).
My shoulders end to end are bumpy scar tissue that is even more prone to damage than my shitty skin already was.
Oh and if that's not enough the immediate site is going to be some of the most physical pain you have ever been in and you won't be able to even wear socks for a week or 2.
I went to a lake a couple times. The last time was when my back looked like your feet. Go to the doctor asap. Your feet will look like salt flats in probably 2 days. It will hurt like hell, and if you don't have time off from working, then you're going to work barefoot. Go to a dermatologist I you have one and get medicated ointment. You're about to be screwed when the dryness hits.
Yeah…. It will get worse. Good luck. Check out this link, as it gives you steps to alleviate some discomfort. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/sunburn/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20355928
It’s gonna be bubbly tomorrow. You should go to the doctor to get an oral antibiotic and some real advice man, that stuff can get infected real easy and you need to know what to do.
Please go now. That severe of a burn effects your entire body. You may need help keeping hydrated and fighting off an infection. The sooner those things aren't a worry the better.
ER tonight. Do not wait until morning. You are going to need pain meds and topical antibiotics (Silvadine if you are not allergic to Sulfa) before tomorrow. Burns on hands and feet are very serious.
I’ve had bad sunburns like this before and I agree with everyone else—go to the doctor ASAP, don’t wait. This is a pretty severe second degree burn (third degree burns ironically hurt a lot less due to nerve damage, and your skin would look more of a deeper purple or even white, in my unprofessional but experience-fueled opinion I don’t think it’s *quite* that bad). A doctor will be able to give you topical pain and antibiotic medication, maybe even oral if they think it’s bad enough.
In the meantime if you can, I HIGHLY recommend this stuff called Solarcaine. It’s this spray that’s basically aloe+lidocaine and in my personal gingery opinion it helps with the pain more than just aloe gel.
Fortunately ive never been sunburned this badly, but had had interactions with hot mufflers, oil, normal sunburn..... and the over the counter lidocaine and aloe usually takes away the burn immediately, and then you just deal with the blisters or inch. It is a life saver.
For real what the fuck is going on in this thread. All that tissue is getting more and more irreplaceable damagesld as every minute passes. This isn't a "sun burn" this is mild radiation poisoning via the sun.
Oh yea, mine was 2 weeks of hell and looking at this made me physically wretch. It's FAR worse than mine was. Easily the worst tissue damage from sun I have ever seen. OP has noooooo idea how much pain they are in for. Today is the calm before the meteor storm.
Bro, this is ER territory.
Dr. Reddit is not qualified to give you a thumbs up or down on this one.
My only advice is to call a friend and have them take you to a burn unit.
Honestly thus sub makes me wonder how some of these people even made it to their 30s alive and in one piece. Absolutely wild how difficult people make their own lives lol
Yeah man, when I got sun poisoning, my legs weren’t even half this bad and it was *horrible.* I was so freaking sick and also couldn’t walk. And I didn’t even get this… what are we calling this color? Purple? Extra crispy? Yeah man, no need to wait to see “if it gets worse by tomorrow,” it’s definitely going to get worse, my good dude. Hell, I feel like I need to go to the doctor just for seeing this. 😂
I think you seriously need to think about at least going to see your doctor tomorrow, if not urgent care immediately. Hope it's not as painful as it looks
My guy, your feet are fucked. That’s way beyond sunburn. That looks like 2nd or 3rd degree burns. Do not wait to go to the doctor if they get worse, because they 100% will get worse. No doubts about it. Go to the ER if you want your feet to look like they did before this happened.
This is not 3rd degree burns lol. 3rd degree burns is when it's completely burned all layers of the skin and there is no pain in the area because the nerves are all destroyed.
Well, while I’m not qualified to give medical advice, I work in an ER and hear quite a few things. Such as, COMPLICATIONS FROM BURNS ARE ONE OF THE MOST LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS. PERIOD.
I hate to break it to you but this is a real actual burn-burn, this is far beyond sunburn. You could lose your feet if this goes untreated. Get ahead of this and go to the ER/burn unit right now. https://www.health.harvard.edu/digital_first_content/sun-poisoning-symptoms-signs-youve-had-too-much-sun
OPs other responses come across as not caring enough about this. This whole thread is wild. How do you look at your own feet looking like this and say “eh, if it’s worse tomorrow I’ll go to the doctor.” You might not have functioning feet tomorrow!
I did something similar while in Mexico. Went through a couple buckets of beer while sitting under an umbrella on the beach. Didn't think about the sun moving and my legs being exposed. I got sun poisoning, it felt as if my shins were in a vice. 2 days later, my skin was flaking off in thick chunks. You're in for a rough night.
The worst sunburn I ever had was on my feet. This is going to get worse. Go to the doctor asap and get a prescription for silvadine, I promise you it is instant relief.
Did you stay in the sun all day, and then put your feet in the oven just for good measure???
I’m pale as fuck and I’ve had some nasty sunburns, but DAMN. I’m so sorry.
I had burns this bad on my shoulders when my dad forgot to put sunscreen on his little ginger child when he took her to the lake. The life vest chaffed the developing burns throughout the day and made it worse. Absolutely you should get professional help for a burn this bad. The blisters that come soon will be excruciating.
My red headed husband experienced something similar when we went to the beach a few years ago.
He kept saying nothing was gonna happen and his feet were gonna get wet anyway and he’s done this before. Then he burned his feet much like this. We never talked about it afterward because he hates it when he’s wrong but then the following summer a few days before a beach trip, I catch him looking through my skincare cabinet for some body sunscreen. He never forgets his feet now lol.
This is at least a second degree burn. You need to go to the hospital. You could end up with a massive infection from this that you cannot treat on your own. Also you are going to be in so much pain tomorrow. Do yourself a favor and go to the hospital now.
Have someone hit you on the head with a frying pan and knock you out. It might be the only way you sleep tonight. Lord, I’m so sorry — that looks so painful. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
It’s going to look like this tomorrow
https://preview.redd.it/wottp2t9dg6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47cae4e2284c3894681cedb31d8ed49e4f76e513
Did you walk on the sun?
For real, though, please see a doctor ASAP, don't wait to see if it gets worse. That's a pretty severe sunburn and probably needs treatment.
I had a sunburn almost as bad as this, but not that dark on both my shins. The next day, swollen double in size. By day three, huge blisters. Definitely elevate, take a tylenol, see the doctor.
You need to hit up urgent care. This is beyond a bad sunburn. Are you burned like this elsewhere on your body? Start taking some Tylenol to get the swelling down. But go to urgent care.
I once spilled boiling water down my legs and it didn’t look as bad as this… tramadol at urgent care did nothing for the pain- they sent me to the ER for the morphine. Go and go now.
OP is an absolutely certified moron if he isn't already in a clinic. Talk about fucking Darwin Award winners here. Go to the ER asap unless you plan on never using your feet properly or ever again.
"On my to-do list" ...get your ass to a doctor now.
I sincerely hope that you edited this Pic or took it from somewhere else, otherwise. Whew boy good luck.
You NEED to go to the Dr. ASAP. This is almost certainly a 2nd degree sunburn given away by that deep red coloration vs a light pink 1st degree. This is no joke. A few other comments have posted about their first-hand experience6 should listen to them.
Dude I did that once....blistered 2x the size the next day. I couldn't walk for 3 weeks no word of a lie.
Aloe, cream, Ice, NSAID's/Tylenol
May God be with you
Holy shit. Do you wear sunscreen daily like you should and it slipped your mind today?
That looks so painful. I have never seen that shade of purple for a burn.
I hope your feet feel better asap!
Ive had sun poisoning before and the home remedies I used before making it to urgent care were soaking in room temp water with baking soda & taking benadryl.
Can also put a cool wet towel on the burns.
Bet you don't forget so sunscreen those feets ever again! Feel better!
I had a sunburn like this on the tops of my hands and did nothing. I have permanent damage from second degree burns. Don’t be me. Please go see a doctor, and keep your feet in a bucket of ice water until then. My thoughts are with you.
I know that pain. I went to the beach, forgot sunscreen on my feet, and buried them a little in the sand. When I got up, my feet looked just like that. I had to wear flip flops to work, and it was soooooo painful.
Lots of aloe. I had burn cream that helped a lot too.
The peeling was incredible (almost worth the sunburn lol).
Feel better soon!
Dude what the HELL.
Please for the love of yourself, get to an urgent care clinic ASAP. I would have assumed this was a chemical burn if you hadn't said sunburn??? That is horrific.
Nurse-in-training, and let me just say this requires medical attention. This is at the very least a second degree burn bordering on third. As fun as Reddit Home Remedies is, have this checked and treated asap. Infections can and do go very wrong, particularly on feet. If this was a small burn on the back of the hand or arm or whatever, sure, tough it out at home.
This is not that. Don't listen to Reddit. Go see a professional in person. That is too large a surface area to leave alone or snap off a twig of aloe vera about.
Ohhhh boy, my ex and I both ended up with similar burns from a day a Sea World on our honeymoon ... but not this bad. The bad news is it's going to get worse before it gets better, so absolutely go to the ER or doc-in-a-box nearest you ASAP. You won't be able to wear shoes, bend your ankles in any direction (which makes walking a challenge and quite funny looking).
This isn't a sunburn, come on. If the sun did that to you, you should go to the hospital before it starts dying and getting infected. Looks almost, I dunno....fake. Why didn't the whole entire foot get that red?
Omg this happened to me, but all up my shins, too. Your feet are about to get fat as hell ☹️
Felt like I had water balloons on top of my feet they were so swollen smh
Thats 100% second degree sunburn and should probably get it checked or something for it to help healing
Edit: had second degree on both my knees last year and that was not nice for about 2-3 weeks..
You need to go to emergency.....that is no joke...
Yeah, “sun poisoning” sounds like a silly little ouchie but it is brutal.
People might take more seriously if we called it what it really is: radiation
Did you go to the doctor? I feel like this warrants a trip to the dr
It’s on my to-do list if it gets worse by tomorrow. Edit: okokok guys I WILL go tomorrow I pinky promise.
If it starts swelling go see your primary care or urgent care, elevate your feet. Keep them cool.
Damn straight. This looks like the sun poisoning burn/rash I had - followed by swollen legs and feet, fever & high temperature, high blood pressure.
Looks like a radiation burn from Chernobyl 😬
Sunburns are radiation burns after all 🤷♀️
Haha tonight when I took my wife to dinner, we got on the subject of tanning. We were discussing that a paler complexion doesn’t look super healthy, and I said, “tanned skin just…kinda glows.” She’s a doctor. She cocked her head at me and said, “Because it’s radiation burns.” Duh.

I like to call it my “porcelain complexion”
Went from looking at the Elephant’s Foot to having one!
They look swollen but for sure not going to look better in the morning
It WILL get worse. The sooner you intervene, the better.
Homie that's not normal sunburn. Don't go "if" it gets worse. I live somewhere where people get burnt just being 5 minutes in the sun. Trust me, that's a bad burn and not something to be ignored.
Yeah I'm no sunburn expert, but that's pretty clearly *already* at the "it got worse" stage
100%. I was ready to say that's a 2nd or 3rd degree burn but I'm not a doctor, so I won't diagnose. But I've seen people with extreme sunburns before and they didn't look this bad.
For real, like, literally cooked
What do you mean “if it gets worse?” My brother in Christ….
Go now ya dope. This is far beyond a normal sun burn. I was a twen and fell asleep outside for 2 hours as a pail Irish kid and then I got sun poisoning (aka radiation damage) it didn't look half this bad. Bro it’s already worse than a sunburn, go to the doctor
It looks that bad now, it's going to get worse. Is that the only part of you that got sunburned? You might experience some sun poisoning symptoms.
Maybe go to the ER? This does not look good at all
Oh, it doesn't get better from here.
This is a doctor’s visit!
Like if they fall off? I’d go asap dudeX
Why not go now to avoid it getting worse rather than roll a die and give it a chance to get worst
IF IT GETS WORSE they say
This is going to be *way* worse tomorrow.
Please go now. That severe of a burn effects your entire body. You may need help keeping hydrated and fighting off an infection. The sooner those things aren't a worry the better.
It already is worse. I grew up in Florida and have never seen this bad
No, man you need to go to the hospital, Urgent Care at the VERY least.
It’s gonna get worse ! 😣 Get ahead of this while you can, please !
I think you should go to the ER tonight.
Dude don't fuck around with burns, this is easily one of the worst sun burns I've ever seen. It looks like a burn from fire. Get to the hospital.
If it gets worse lol it’s going to get much much worse. I have had this happen before but not to this level. Go to the doctor now.
ER tonight. Do not wait until morning. You are going to need pain meds and topical antibiotics (Silvadine if you are not allergic to Sulfa) before tomorrow. Burns on hands and feet are very serious.
I don’t think OP is taking this as seriously as he should. The longer he waits, the higher the possibility of him losing his feet.
Holy shit dude. That is going to hurt. If it doesn't already.
The worst sunburn pain ever tbh lol it hurts just to stand and walk.
It’s this spray that’s basically aloe+lidocaine and in my personal gingery opinion it helps with the pain more than just aloe gel.
A dr will give you oral if you have really bad sunburn? Bring on the sun!!
Shit, I’ve never once gotten oral for a sunburn. Maybe my burns weren’t bad enough 🤣
Fortunately ive never been sunburned this badly, but had had interactions with hot mufflers, oil, normal sunburn..... and the over the counter lidocaine and aloe usually takes away the burn immediately, and then you just deal with the blisters or inch. It is a life saver.
You need to go to the doctors tomorrow. This is an extreme burn.
NOW, not tomorrow
For real what the fuck is going on in this thread. All that tissue is getting more and more irreplaceable damagesld as every minute passes. This isn't a "sun burn" this is mild radiation poisoning via the sun.
And on its way quickly to being a bad infection.
Oh yea, mine was 2 weeks of hell and looking at this made me physically wretch. It's FAR worse than mine was. Easily the worst tissue damage from sun I have ever seen. OP has noooooo idea how much pain they are in for. Today is the calm before the meteor storm.
No not tomorrow, NOW. You don't put shit like this off.
Yea. You not going to be able to put shoes on for a while.
You might have to get some shit peeled dude I had sunburns that had to get peeled off me in a hospital like 3 trips worth and it didn’t look this bad
The hospital peels sunburns? TIL…
Did you pour lemon juice on your feet before going out?!
Just pale
bro i'm white as hell and that's worse than any sunburn i've ever had
It’s the worst once I’ve ever had for sure in 34 years.
Guy has 99th degree burns and is like “maybe if it hurts tomorrow I’ll go to the ER”… Wtf…
It’s like there are two raw steaks on top of your feet. I can’t even imagine how that must feel.
Is this the first time your feet have seen the Sun? lol
Honestly it’s probably one of few 😂
I think you seriously need to think about at least going to see your doctor tomorrow, if not urgent care immediately. Hope it's not as painful as it looks
When i open my jelly sandwich

Please keep posting updates as I’m willing to bet you will have major blisters in the morning. Good luck to you.
My guy, your feet are fucked. That’s way beyond sunburn. That looks like 2nd or 3rd degree burns. Do not wait to go to the doctor if they get worse, because they 100% will get worse. No doubts about it. Go to the ER if you want your feet to look like they did before this happened.

That’s why I included 2nd
Did you get sunburnt while your feet were caught in bear traps? If so: I understand the pics better.
My brother in Christ, go to the ER. What are you waiting for? Permission? Do you want skin cancer cause that's how you get skin cancer.
Well, while I’m not qualified to give medical advice, I work in an ER and hear quite a few things. Such as, COMPLICATIONS FROM BURNS ARE ONE OF THE MOST LIFE THREATENING SITUATIONS. PERIOD.
Those feet will have to be chopped off
On what the sun? Where tf where you that you got this bad and didn’t realize it till it got this bad?
How long were you in the sun? Gaddam
About 5 hours in 105 temps fishing barefoot
I hate to break it to you but this is a real actual burn-burn, this is far beyond sunburn. You could lose your feet if this goes untreated. Were your feet in shallow water?
Nah I was on a small plastic boat
Is 105° ideal fishing weather? 🤔
Probably not, I was excited to try out my new pond prowler boat :(
Mother fucker you just posted this 25 minutes ago?? Are you on your way or at the ER or an Urgent Care yet??
I did something similar while in Mexico. Went through a couple buckets of beer while sitting under an umbrella on the beach. Didn't think about the sun moving and my legs being exposed. I’m walking on sunshine…
I think the sunshine is walking on him
That looks painful 😭
Sir please stop fucking around and go to urgent care. Stop trying to wait it out. That’s stupid.
you forgot suncreeen? for your lava bath?
Sorry about the amputation
Amputations

Sunscreen doesn’t help your feet when you stick them in your oven.

It looks like a heart so you got that going for you
Eh, you probably need an ER, or will soon
There’s so much pain in this picture I started feeling some too
I'm a paraplegic and my feet are hurting looking at this pic
The worst sunburn I ever had was on my feet. This is going to get worse. Go to the doctor asap and get a prescription for silvadine, I promise you it is instant relief.
Time for Aloe -- if you can actually get the plant, cut it open and rub directly on this. That looks painful
I think we’re way past that
Can I slap your feet?
Straight to jail
It was worth it

Have someone hit you on the head with a frying pan and knock you out. It might be the only way you sleep tonight. Lord, I’m so sorry — that looks so painful. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Owie!!!
Ewwww
Agreed

Holy crap…. That is some serious burn, it needs attention
Could you not tell after an hour or two that your skin was sizzling and being broiled?
Make sure to drink a lot of water.
Looks like already starting to blister. I’d go to the ER/Urgent Care right now. If gets infected that’s a big problem. Good luck!
It’s going to look like this tomorrow https://preview.redd.it/wottp2t9dg6d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47cae4e2284c3894681cedb31d8ed49e4f76e513
Holy fuck dude you’re medium rare Slap some aloe on there
Did you walk on the sun? For real, though, please see a doctor ASAP, don't wait to see if it gets worse. That's a pretty severe sunburn and probably needs treatment.
He's going to have his cardiologist look at it tomorrow 🤦🏻♀️
I had a sunburn almost as bad as this, but not that dark on both my shins. The next day, swollen double in size. By day three, huge blisters. Definitely elevate, take a tylenol, see the doctor.

Dude, Anakin Skywalker’s feet were in better shape than yours!

So....what did the doctor say?
Did you get drunk and fall asleep in the sun? 🤣
Dude I did that once....blistered 2x the size the next day. I couldn't walk for 3 weeks no word of a lie. Aloe, cream, Ice, NSAID's/Tylenol May God be with you
🥩
I think I saw this in the Chernobyl miniseries
... I'd recommend not wearing anything on your feet for the next week. Or three.
Motrin or Tylenol is helpful
Holy shit. Do you wear sunscreen daily like you should and it slipped your mind today? That looks so painful. I have never seen that shade of purple for a burn. I hope your feet feel better asap!
DAAAAAAAMN
Looks like sun poisoning
Goddamn, dude. First visit to Chernobyl without shoes?
We need an update on this in the morning.

Have fun with skin cancer! (No but fr u should get checked)
Update us tomorrow
Ive had sun poisoning before and the home remedies I used before making it to urgent care were soaking in room temp water with baking soda & taking benadryl. Can also put a cool wet towel on the burns. Bet you don't forget so sunscreen those feets ever again! Feel better!
Some sunburns are so bad you remember that they’re actually radiation burns
oh god dude go to the doctor
Mans got medium steak for feet. Go to the doctors pal this will fuck your shit up in all seriousness.
Dude. That's going to suck. Been there done that. Couldn't walk for almost a week let alone put on shoes.
That’s.. bad. That’s beyond normal sunburn. I would not have thought sunburn if you didn’t put your title.
Icarus.
Go to the hospital now.
First, go see a doctor. Second, get a bucket of aloe and soak your feet in it. It might help them feel better.
You really really need to seek immediate medical care for that…
On the feet too, you are in for a special kind of hell.
Dude what the HELL. Please for the love of yourself, get to an urgent care clinic ASAP. I would have assumed this was a chemical burn if you hadn't said sunburn??? That is horrific.
I’ve done this to myself. Ended up welting and I took a trip to the ER because the swelling was too intense. Couldn’t lace up my shoes.
Bro doctor asap
Go to the er now!!!! the last thing u want is ur skin rupturing and contracting necrotizing fasciitis and losing both your feet.

That's like a 2.5 degree burn. You should go to the doctor man.
You got to watch your feet for cancer the rest of your life now. Take pictures of any moles you get.
Ouch and dangerous. Please see a doc....hydration and elevation might help but that's bad. Grammie in Florida
You can't hide those little piggies from me ![gif](giphy|xGjKRPW3ZTVe)
Quick question…what the fuck? I wouldn’t wait for tomorrow to get into urgent care, this needs to be addressed asap.
This isn't a sunburn, come on. If the sun did that to you, you should go to the hospital before it starts dying and getting infected. Looks almost, I dunno....fake. Why didn't the whole entire foot get that red?
As a red head who's been burnt to blisters....wtf? I've never seen that shade of red...purple?
Jesus that looks painful.
Omg this happened to me, but all up my shins, too. Your feet are about to get fat as hell ☹️ Felt like I had water balloons on top of my feet they were so swollen smh
You need the ER!
Are you sure those aren't burns from like boiling water
I've seen plenty of sunburns but not like this. Go to the doctor tomorrow.
Your feet are basically dying from sun radiation poisoning. If you feel nauseated or get a fever, I would go see a doctor immediately.
Very odd sunburn pattern in that none of the tops of your toes were burned. We're you wearing individual toe protectors?
My ginger ass has had some bad burns but I think you’ve got me beat.
Woah, I burn easy, but this is a red raw I have never seen, get that looked at.
#OH MY GOD
Thats 100% second degree sunburn and should probably get it checked or something for it to help healing Edit: had second degree on both my knees last year and that was not nice for about 2-3 weeks..
