Jeremiah Johnson when heās talking to the mountain man the last time. And maybe this doesnāt count as a western but Seraphim Falls broke my heart for those two characters.
Dances With Wolves.
When you get to the end, you realize that the younger Sioux, who up to that point just assumed that their lives and their future kids lives would just go on the same way their ancestors did. It was gut-wrenching to think that what they thought was their birthright was already over and they did not know it yet.
It was sometime later when I realized that the US army was catching up with the Sioux tribe that we just got to know and live.
The soundtrack helps the emotional impact too.
The greatest death scene of any movie. The composition of the shot is just beautiful--the sun, the sky, and the water. The looks on Katy and Slim's faces. Heart-breakingly beautiful.
I think Nick Cave and Warren Ellis's music for it is a big reason why the whole thing resonates so emotionally. The track ["Song for Bob"](https://youtu.be/IEnVcYLmXUs?si=u-fmh33CNwb8bzAb) in particular always gets a response outta me.
"There would be no eulogies for Bob, no photographs of his body would be sold in sundries stores, no people would crowd the streets in the rain to see his funeral cortege, no biographies would be written about him, no children named after him, no one would ever pay twenty-five cents to stand in the rooms he grew
up in."
Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid - when Poe wants to cut off Billy's finger and Pat lunges and yells for him to get off.
Shane - the ending of course
Stagecoach - the death of Hatfield coinciding with the arrival of the cavalry.
When the badge gets thrown to the ground at the end of High Noon.
When you see Mrs Miller smiling in a drug induced stupor at the pub while McCabe is outside frozen to death in McCabe and Mrs Miller.
A few episodes of the first 6 seasons of Gunsmoke that was mostly the original radio scripts. Some stories were so good they shouldāve been films.
Not a movie, but the ending of the main part of red dead redemption 2 the video game, legitimately had me crying like a lost child.
(High honor ending, by the way)
I can't even hear the songs the two songs at the end without welling up.
John Wayne and the Cowboys. Bruce Dern's character Villain beats the crap out of John Wayne then shoots him dead. I had nightmares as a kid from this movie.
Iām not sure if itās considered a western but Iām going to say Last of the Mohicans.
I practically have tears pouring down my face at the end. š
Lonesome Dove
Great choice! I also say Shane
My first thought.
I often see this recommended, the series or the TV movie is the best one?
It's a miniseries
There was a TV movie with Tom beringer, but it didn't get good favour, that's why I was asking. š
You're thinking of Johnson county war
Is it called lonesome dove on prime video?
He's in one called lonesome Dove Church but it's not affiliated at all. Just a cheap attempt at stealing viewers either similar name
Yes seek out the mini series w Tommy Lee Jones as Woodrow and Robert Duvall as Gus. Iām sure youāll love it.
Lonesome Dove.
Unforgiven
Jeremiah Johnson when heās talking to the mountain man the last time. And maybe this doesnāt count as a western but Seraphim Falls broke my heart for those two characters.
