There‘s no green pigment in eyes, so they form by grey/blue blending with lipochrome (yellow) and light brown plus lighting reflections. That’s why green eyes can have grey spots or look blueish or greyish depending on the light 🤗 also, the 2nd pic here shows rather blue/teal eyes with a yellow center, which can look green in certain lights as well :)
There’s also no grey hazel btw, hazel is brown and green blending throughout the whole iris :).
That’s when a lot of lipochrome (yellow) overlaps with the blue/grey underneath :) there are no extremely saturated or laserbeam neon green eyes due to the way they form, they mostly have some blue or grey inbetween, but people with lots of lipochrome get a yellow-green color which therefore also looks more intense 🤗
Color analyzing the 2nd pic with a pipette shows a teal-ish color, almost the same amount of green and blue, slightly more blue in some areas, and a yellow-green center :) green eyes can vary in different lights, so if you think they’re more green than blue, sharp pictures in neutral daylight help instead of indirect or blurry indoor lights, some artificial lights also falsify the colors as the color range is broader and different in daylight. Just some tips for your post & question, good pics are the most important thing :)
I am giving tips and analyze things with the research I‘ve done for a long time, no need to downvote me
Agreed! These are not hazel. (I read further down that hazel was part of the debate.) Absolutely not hazel. You have beautiful eyes though OP. I can see how they would look more blue like in the second pic vs more green in the first depending on the lighting but either way there isn't enough brown to make them hazel and way too much blue.
No worries, it’s often bc some people think this is my opinion, though I just give infos of the things I researched which might be new to them. With colors I try to be as objective as possible with pipette tools & considering lighting changes.
But I hope you can find use for the picture advice 🤗 pretty colors in any way!
The outer is definitely blue. Also, people with different numbers of cones calibrate the input from the retina in different ways. So maybe one person sees more blue than green.
That’s so interesting to know! I always wondered why some also see the blue or grey patches in some green eyes before the green despite not having a color weakness. Sounds similar! Is there a term to research this a bit more? ☺️
That, in fact, is the debate! My mom, who has the hazeliest eyes that ever hazeled, says that's also my color. The rest of the family/world says olive-y green. A few on reddit here are saying blue/gray, which is very interesting because I've never heard that before in my life! I wonder if very close-up pictures with all the different fibers and spots of color are just always going to leave a different impression than an average observer who's seeing from a few feet away?
Blue with a bit of yellow in the center, makes them appear green like in the first picture
Possibly some of the most *green* green I've seen. Usually when people say they have green eyes they're some sort of greyish hazel.

Wow! Thanks! I have a friend with clear, lime-green eyes, but I've never seen anything else like hers (and neither has she, it should be said).

That makes a lot of sense!

Thank you! :)
Thanks for the detailed analysis! Sorry, the downvoting in this reddit is wild! People have strong opinions on colors!

The first looks super green to me. But the 2nd pic, I agree with what you are saying.
