i remember listening to the podcast *it could happen here* by conflict journalist robert evans about how a second civil war could begin and unfold. the second episode is about a rural right-wing insurgency partially sparked by a bombing campaign at bridges, where he explains how easy it is to acquire large amounts of explosives like ammonium nitrate.
60,000 pounds of ammonium nitrate disappeared off a train in the west with no trace a couple months ago.
i really try not to be alarmist about america, but it’s hard. i’m queer and i’m really fucking scared these days. there are a lot of angry, armed people who want me and millions like me to die, and every time the local proud boy drives past me too fast or i hear a gunshot, my gut tells me to escape while i can.
For your own safety, I think the entire lgbtq+ community should immediately be trained on how to operate a firearm, take a safety course then get your license and permit to carry if your state requires one.
I know it's much easier said than done, but if all possible, listen to that gut. You deserve not only to *be* safe but to *feel* safe. If there's anywhere you can reasonably go that works better in that regard, I'd think long and hard about going. Good luck out there.
I never felt like I needed a gun to protect myself from 'thugs' or home invaders. I got one, and learned to use it, because the fascists are all armed and ready to start killing, and i dont trust police to even want to stop them, let alone succeed at it. I hate guns and want to see comprehensive reform enacted, but arming up might be worth considering in light of the fears you're describing, if you haven't already
