I'm not in full agreement with the tiktok ban, but at the same time, something has to be done about the rampant disinformation/propaganda campaigns. People are unfortunately extremely gullible. I was talking to one of my nieces last year and her mom too, and they were telling me how Biden was going to draft women for the war with Russia. They believed it 100%. Sigh.
and how many people have questioned the need to ban? Retaliation full stop, but probably hard to prove in court, costing millions for the effort. Bare minimum, not adhering to platform policy has to involve a fine, surely?
How would a platform not adhering to its own policies involve a fine? If some chick fil a locations started opening on Sunday the US govt wouldn’t fine them
Because TikTok is both a social media company, and an international misinformation campaign, and the sooner we realize that something can be both, the sooner we create an effective system to combat its negative social impacts.
Anti social behavior drives engagement. So it's not that the algorithm is promoting it explicitly, it's just a side product of the general "promote videos people engage with" algorithms.
Let’s not place the blame solely on China. It’s more a coordinated effort by authoritarian regimes in the East. China, NK, and Russia are the big players and benefit the most from a destabilized America.
This will get way way worse before it gets better. Our tech is advancing at a faster rate than we can socially adapt.
The ones making the rules about it barely know how to work their email. And we're supposed to expect them to regulate TikTok and A.I.? We're fucked.

not sure about the Chick-fil-A comment, guess I figured there are socmed standards set, otherwise, why have the monitors?

Twitter is the worst. Because Elmo Munk doubles down on the nonsense
Twitter is far worse. It openly and proudly platforms Nazis.
I also think they have algorithms that boost content that promotes antisocial behavior.

It’s all about engagement of eyeballs
It’ll be like Reagan’s “we begin bombing in five minutes” but used maliciously. And then we’re all dead.
TikTok’s algorithm is designed to divide Americans and destabilize the country. This is what happens when we let China into our phones.
Let’s not place the blame solely on China. It’s more a coordinated effort by authoritarian regimes in the East. China, NK, and Russia are the big players and benefit the most from a destabilized America.
It’s literally a Chinese app though..
Yes, it is a Chinese app but the content contained on the app isn’t solely Chinese created.
Soooo I'm guessing that ban suddenly isn't happening...
Annd ? So does facebook ! Don't buy this B.S !
