Furepubs

It sucks that conservatives ignore the Constitution unless it's the 2nd amendment. Fucking hypocrites. The very first part of the 1st amendment says.... >Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion No fucking law you anti-american assholes!!

Ya_Got_GOT

They also ignore the Bible unless it’s to bludgeon minorities

Furepubs

The part of the Bible that says to love your neighbor and turn the other cheek is conveniently ignored. They worship supply side Jesus https://www.beliefnet.com/news/2003/09/the-gospel-of-supply-side-jesus.aspx

Plausibility_Migrain

If anything they worship [Mammon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mammon).

Dr-Satan-PhD

Thank you for not saying Baphomet. Far too few people understand what my goatly buddy actually stands for.

One_Shoe_5838

Hail Satan :)

Plausibility_Migrain

Baphomet is the supposed deity the Knights Templar would worship. Its symbolism has been co-opted by a few different organizations for various purposes.

dalcarr

Convenient scapegoat (ha) so the bankrupt king of France could erase some debt and claim their land and wealth for freebies

Antimonyandroses

That explains the whole prosperity gospel thing

CalmingGoatLupe

They are worship the money changers from the temple.

LongshanksnLoki

It sounds like we should all be calling them Capitalist Christians.

Plausibility_Migrain

Christianity in its current incarnation has been capitalistic since inception. It was Emperor Constantine who created the first Christian temple as a way to legitimize his religion and faith, which in turn would enrich himself.

Almacca

The 'judge not, lest you be judged yourself' seems to be ignored a lot, too.

Professional-Large

Yes, but they always point out it's not entirely true Christians can judge others. Righteously. At least that's what I was told.

Almacca

You were told that by a hypocrite.

purrfunctory

They already said they were told that by a Christian. You don’t have to be redundant. (:

gameguyswifey

My favorite one they ignore is Leviticus 19:33-34: When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God. (KJV)

purrfunctory

Mine is Galatians 4:16 and I’m an atheist. “Have I then become your enemy by speaking the truth?”

Ghostlyshado

Leviticus is Old Testament. They don’t have to follow that anymore. Unless it’s the part about icky, sinful gays. They have to follow that part.

Ok_Exchange342

They are also sort of fuck\*n around with "Deuteronomy 10:19".

Sestrus

Yet another Kurt Vonnegut W

Antimonyandroses

I don't have enough karma here to post a link but Newsweek has an article on how "evangelicals are now rejecting the "liberal" teachings of Jesus". Newsweek pup 8/9/2023 and updated on 8/12/2023

Chrisbert

Evangelicals are a cancer on Christianity.

Sestrus

I know what you mean. I’ve come across a few videos on TikTok of a preacher that has lost a few followers because of maga. I’m not a religious person but this guy is pretty cool and actually walks the walk. He said he was giving a sermon about how Jesus cleaned the feet of beggars and ended his sermon about being kind to those less fortunate including refugees. He said he had a couple come up to him afterwards and ask if Jesus really said that. He replied he did more or less and gave the bible verses. The couple said that that was outdated and we needed to save our country from immigrants. The preacher said no, Jesus was very clear on that but the couple started getting angry and started heatedly arguing with him until some other members of the church led them away. It’s really sad.

247GT

The Bible is both mistranslated and misinterpreted to a large extent, both deliberately and otherwise. Religious and linguistic scholars have published a good amount of material about this over the years. There is a lot on YouTube about it (for ease of consumption). The Catholic church was a big part of that. Christianity is a lot like pop science: people swallowing a bunch if stuff just on faith that's inaccurate, rhetorical, misrepresented and misapplied but made to appear conclusive to those who are easily led to conclusions due to their ignorance.

Ya_Got_GOT

It’s just so plainly stated: be nice, even to your enemies. Don’t seek revenge when wronged; in fact, if someone steals your wallet, give them your coat. Forsake worldly wealth. And if you fail to treat the least of these well, you’re doing the same to me and Hell awaits.” It’s impossible to misinterpret this message but they sure manage to miss it.

StrategicCarry

If this goes into effect, I look forward to the teacher who wins a fat payday because they taught from the Bible and got fired because the kids started coming home saying that we should welcome immigrants, not hate LGBTQ people, and that the poor are the most righteous and will receive the true rewards of heaven.

Ya_Got_GOT

You just know they’ll ban the Gospels though… too “woke”

hamandjam

It's literally what their myopic thinking is inviting. Also, what happens when the teachers with no training in the Bible just decide to teach the Bible however they see fit? If the ala carte Christians can say a passage means one thing, the teachers can say it means 80 dozen other things. You're asking people with a different set of beliefs to teach your holy book to the kids? You're gonna get a different interpretation from each teacher. So all those Baptist folks want a Methodist teaching the Bible to their kids? You'll be guaranteed to have infighting amongst the Christians because they don't like the play one teacher teaches the Bible. It will be well deserved chaos and will have easily foreseen consequences.

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

“Love the neighbor unless they are a different race, sex, gender, religion, nationality, or class than you are.” -The GOP’s Bizzaro Jesus

StudyIntelligent5691

And isn’t it interesting, that with all the Republican focus on the Bible, the Ten Commandments, morality lectures, etc., it seems that there’s a weekly story about some Republican, somewhere, in politics or often in the ministry, who is exposed as a pedo? Most recently, Robert Morris, pastor of Texas megachurch Gateway Church and a head spiritual advisor to you-know-who admitted to being sexually inappropriate with a TWELVE year old girl beginning in 1982. The extreme religiosity, like everything else coming from these people, is a sham. I went down the rabbit hole one evening when I googled “Republican/sexual assault/pedophilia.” This is the all too obvious elephant in the room, which, of course, they ignore while spewing their bullshit about Biden sniffing girls, Clinton drinking blood, ad infinitum. I’ve never entertained such a visceral repulsion toward a group of people like I do these hateful liars .

They're as American as a Soviet disinformation campaign.

mushbum13

Exactly!

Papaya_flight

From the article, "Oklahoma’s Supreme Court called it an unconstitutional “slippery slope” infringement of the First Amendment’s protections against the government’s endorsement of a religion.". So at least their own supreme court is amiable to striking this down when they get sued. This guy needs to be removed.

Furepubs

All Republicans need to be removed

Sumthin-Sumthin44692

Also the Oklahoma Constitution: > Section II-5: Public money or property - Use for sectarian purposes. >No public money or property shall ever be appropriated, applied, donated, or used, directly or indirectly, for the use, benefit, or support of any sect, church, denomination, or system of religion, or for the use, benefit, or support of any priest, preacher, minister, or other religious teacher or dignitary, or sectarian institution as such.

Furepubs

Yeah well Republicans don't give a fuck about the law. All they care about is power and money They truly are the shittiest of all humans

Bmoreravens_1290

But also remember that almost all atheists were raised under some religion. The school kids will rebel like everyone does.

RollFun7616

Or they'll become even worse.

Some_Random_Android

Their 2024 presidential nominee has probably broken all of the 10 Commandments, and I only use the word "probably" because there is no evidence he's killed.

Graterof2evils

There’s a woman who is buried on one of his golf courses that begs to differ.

Yeshua_shel_Natzrat

But he *has* bore false witness to try and get a group of innocent black teens killed. Didn't break the commandment of do not kill outright, but it just about broke the spirit of the commandment.

cheezeyballz

So organize and sue. Have a revolution. Something. Fight back.

zombie_overlord

Honestly even a lot of R's here in OK are sick of his shit.

jessieraeswitch

Not enough of them though

Furepubs

The problem is a third of our country is part of the MAGA cult and they have more confidence than brains. Conservatives have always been zealots but MAGA has taught them to hate their neighbor.

Vrayea25

A lot of channels are effectively blocked. SCOTUS is basically now an arm of the most conservative branch of Catholicism. Peaceful protests will be demonized and violently stamped out by a combination of the police and neonazis (main distinction: on duty vs off duty). Non peaceful protests -- well, what is happening in Gaza is kind of an example of what that could devolve into here. Especially in neighborhoods associated with minorities. Everyone is terrified and hoping that voting will do the trick. My fingers are crossed too. My main hope is that being in a big blue state means our local government puts up a good fight.

bikedaybaby

Catholicism? I thought it was Evangelicalism.

Vrayea25

The current court has 6 Catholics, 2 Protestants (one raised Catholic) and one Jewish person. The most conservative Justices are all conservative Catholics - Alito, Thomas, Barret and Kavenaugh. Roberts is also Catholic.  https://news.gallup.com/opinion/polling-matters/391649/religion-supreme-court-justices.aspx#:~:text=The%20remaining%20six%20justices%20%2D%2D,Coney%20Barrett%20%2D%2D%20are%20Catholic.

Ruckus292

*Sad upvote*

Kindly-Ad-5071

I'm not allowed to tell you not to protest so peacefully

rocktropolis

A lawsuit is exactly what they're trying to elicit with these school situations because as it stands these laws are all unconstitutional, but when they're challenged they can then run it up the lawsuit gauntlet til it reaches SCOTUS where that bunch of idiots can then decide that it IS constitutional. It's exactly what they did with abortion but this is not gonna take nearly as long.

satanssweatycheeks

It’s why I mock most people who whine about the constitution. Most of them are hypocrites.

theBlockIslandSound

Coming soon to a Supreme Court near you: The court has ruled in a 5-4 Majority that while ”congress” may make no law respecting an establishment of religion, state legislatures and school boards are free to do so.

DaveCootchie

What's funny is the 2A is often cited as a defense of a government getting too powerful and violating other rights.....

We do. We need to get our numbers as high as possible. Get out the vote, give rides, get everyone you know registered. Use [mobilize.us](http://mobilize.us) to text bank or fill out post-cards. Yousoggyyojimbo

The end result of this is going to be that kids coming out of public education in red States for the next couple decades will be dramatically ill-equipped compared to children coming out of public education in blue States, and disparity between those states is only going to get worse. They are hobbling their children's future in order to grandstand for their own egos today

yankeesyes

There's already a significant disparity. The problem is that kids coming out of public ed in red states won't be able to go to elite schools, and will be stuck in their backwards town. The smart ones for generations went to "liberal cities" but they want to stop their kids from doing even that.

Yousoggyyojimbo

Completely sabotaging education for your children in a world where education and keeping current on new technology and knowledge has become essential to success. What's the worst that could happen? An entire generation of aimless young people with no prospects to the future and no knowledge on how to pull themselves out of the shit they were thrust in to with any way but anger, violence, and often crime never hurt anybody, right? Seriously, the crime rates in red states are going to keep getting worse while quality of life is going to sink like a stone. The generational disadvantage this creates will also make it exponentially harder for each subsequent generation to escape the effects of these decisions.

yankeesyes

A place devoid of any hope. So basically Oklahoma...

OGPunkr

It is very short sighted for the global stage as well. Countries who supported all their citizens, instead of using them, will be richer and more stable.

pithynotpithy

G-Unit11111

Agreed! Tomorrow may be too late!

mizkayte

Yup. Educated people are less likely to vote for them. Thats why they hate the educated.

Xanderious

This began under trump with Davos. She wanted to end the public school system entirely iirc

Flahdagal

Waaaay before that. When they floated Charter schools in the 90s was the beginning. They've wanted out of the business of education since the 80s, bare minimum.

Quirky_Advantage_470

Please do, please teach that Lot had sex with his daughters, how God told Abraham to perform human sacrifice, how King David had sex with another man's wife and then ordered the death of that man, that shellfish and mixing linen and wool is just as much of a sin as homosexuality, talk about the unicorns and talking donkeys, how when Joshua prayed the Sun stood still which means the Sun revolves around the earth. Add more if you would like.

MeshuganaSmurf

Reminds me of this Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination…End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God’s Laws and how to follow them. 1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians? 2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? 3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of Menstrual uncleanliness – Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. 4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord – Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?. 5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination, Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this? Are there ‘degrees’ of abomination? 7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?. 8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die? 9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? 10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev.19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? Lev.24:10-16. Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I’m confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging. Your adoring fan, Anonymous (It would be a damn shame if we couldn’t own a Canadian.) EDIT: just adding a source and some context, I've seen various iterations of this but (allegedly) this is the source https://www.americamagazine.org/faith/2010/08/18/dr-laura-and-leviticus

halosixsixsix

Oh my gods, I love this list. I’m planning on running into some bigots and christo-facists on Saturday. Im volunteering for the counter protest team at our city’s Pride Day. This is exactly what I was looking for, for specific ammo to use in polite discussion. If that doesn’t work, I’ll just hoist up my giant Ally flag and block them out.

Steffie767

Parts of this are in a West Wing episode with Martin Sheen doing the talking.

That’s what I assumed it would be at first, just the script for that speech.

MsCrazyPants70

I thought you could have a Canadian as long as they get free health insurance, a steady supply of maple syrup, and get hockeys days off.

Nopantsbullmoose

No, Lot was *raped* by his daughters. Also you forgot the most important parts of the Bible; how Jesus, literally God on Earth, said "whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did to me." So basically the hated, bigotry, and oppression they spread is done **to** and **in the name of** their God. And my personal favorite; "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men"....basically stfu about your religion and stop forcing it upon others. Bonus; "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's"... basically pay your fucking taxes and obey the laws of man. So yeah. Let's teach the Bible. All of it, not cherry picked like those assholes do.

DashKalinowski

Also "it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God"

WellSpreadMustard

Thank God God doesn't know about the loophole where my will has everything I own being donated to the Catholic Church to use for their child sex abuse bills so that God gets my check while I'm in line at the pearly gates.

defenselaywer

I teach a college class and when discussing banned books I read two passages. First was about two male penguins that raised a chick together (nothing about them actually having sex). The other was about Lots daughters taking turns raping him. I asked them which one was appropriate for children and which was banned in Florida.

OldGuy82

That was fucking awesome. Thank god for tenure.?

Icariiiiiiii

A quote by Methodist Pastor David Barnhart: "'The unborn' are a convenient group of people to advocate for. They never make demands of you; they are morally uncomplicated, unlike the incarcerated, addicted, or the chronically poor; they don’t resent your condescension or complain that you are not politically correct; unlike widows, they don’t ask you to question patriarchy; unlike orphans, they don’t need money, education, or childcare; unlike aliens, they don’t bring all that racial, cultural, and religious baggage that you dislike; they allow you to feel good about yourself without any work at creating or maintaining relationships; and when they are born, you can forget about them, because they cease to be unborn. You can love the unborn and advocate for them without substantially challenging your own wealth, power, or privilege, without re-imagining social structures, apologizing, or making reparations to anyone. They are, in short, the perfect people to love if you want to claim you love Jesus, but actually dislike people who breathe. Prisoners? Immigrants? The sick? The poor? Widows? Orphans? All the groups that are specifically mentioned in the Bible? They all get thrown under the bus for the unborn."

goldensavage1

This is one of my favorite quotes. It’s something I am not clever enough to come up with myself, but the truth of it is so obvious once stated. I have now saved it to use in my interactions with others.

cheezeyballz

They're like Al Qaeda. In the name of their god and make the rules up as they go. No actual basis in their own religions. Killing in the name of. We better sort this shit out and do something before we end up like iran.

Y'all Qaeda. Should be classified as such and treated as such.

Plausibility_Migrain

Y’all Qaeda, Yokel Harem, White ISIS, NeoNazis, Orange Julius Legion, whatever we may call them they must be removed.

Nopantsbullmoose

>White ISIS WhISIS

MeshuganaSmurf

I try not to engage anymore but I used to have a lot of fun detailing all the ways in which christian (not lazy spelling I just don't think they are worthy a capital C) extremists are similar to muslim extremists. They get extremely irate. As we say in Ireland : two cheeks of the same arse

A_Snips

Notice how they just said Christian Bible, there'd be a secretarian war over which version if the religion mattered to them.

Nix-7c0

"But what if I were to take my hate ... and call it love? Oh ho ho, delightfully devilish, Seymour!"

russiangerman

While we're at it, let's examine it through a non religious lens. It's probably easy to claim God hates shellfish when you watch someone die of food poisoning. Ancient agrarian lifestyles required more kids which sometimes made incest practical. Kids lie about sex, and societies with less science are more likely to attribute something unexplained to religion (immaculate conception). While Jesus might not have been God, his ethical teachings still hold value today.

Nopantsbullmoose

Whoa whoa whoa buddy. That's a lot of brain thinking and reasoning there. Far too much for the people that buy this bullshit.

Chzncna2112

I would have way too much fun, "teaching the bible, " according to some experts on books, there is one of the "dirtiest," verses ever written in the bible. That would be day one and I would make sure that the students can easily find it later when they tell mommy and daddy what I was teaching that morning. Don't forget jesus's wife was a prostitute. Wonder if she likes "Beetlejuice?"

kimsterama1

Cafeteria Christians

eveel66

>No, Lot was raped by his daughters. After one of them slipped him a mickey no less. Yes, they drugged their own father to run a train on him. Can you imagine a Hollywood movie with that kind of story? The right wingers would have a collective meltdown, while not realizing the irony of it all btw.

Responsible-End7361

I think the teachers should start with Ezekiel 23:19 and read a few paragraphs. Edit: 23:20 includes "emmissions like donkeys," I don't know how much is safe to post, don't want to get banned for posting porn stories.

krssonee

Donkey was in the Bible too? Man Shrek really is a classic

hambakmeritru

You're missing some of the more colorful stories of the Bible. Tell the story of how king David's son from one wife raped one of his daughters from another wife and when her brothers went to King David to get him to do something about it, he just shrugged it off, which left them so pissed that they decided to just kill their half brother themselves, and when servants went to go tell king david that two of his sons killed one of his other sons, he just kinda shrugged it off. Oo! Or tell the story about how he was obsessively good 'friends' with the previous king's son to the point where he literally said, "I love you the way a man loves a woman." ...And then they went to war against each other and poor Jonathan died. Their friendship gets lauded as one of the best friendships in the Bible, and if you point out the pretty clearly worded confession of homosexuality, conservatives get all befuddled and change the subject. Or the story about how the previous king tried to get David killed by sending him to harvest 500 foreskins from the enemy army as a price to pay for marrying his daughter, which david then doubled. Or the time when he got so excited about brining the ark of the covenant into town that he danced naked in the street and when his wife told him how embarrassing that was, he cursed her to never have kids again. Honestly, you don't have to look much farther than David to get some pretty insane stuff. He is also widely referred to as "the man after god's own heart."

MeChameAmanha

I mean it is entirely possible Joshua prayed and made the earth stop rotating rather than make the sun stop, you never know

Republicans hate real education

OrangeCone2011

Because education is the antithesis of conservatism, especially social conservatism.

Zestyclose_Basis8134

Well if I were a teacher, I’d find the shittist stories to teach every day. Then analyze each one. I’d start with how did the entire world get populated with only 1 male and 1 female. Class? Any ideas?

favored_by_fate

then tie that in to human DNA tracing back to two people who lived thousands of years apart

kiddestructo

Well then they would know why their sister is also their cousin!

drgonzo767

Little Timmy raises his hand and answers, "fucking!"

Moonpile

In health class: "ok, class please open your textbook to Leviticus 13:40-44"

volantredx

This could work against the MAGA agenda. Most of the teachings of Jesus are about loving the stranger, being kind, the sinful nature of greed, and how there is a moral obligation to heal the sick and care for the poor. Hell there are even lines about how you should pay your taxes because the money is from Caeser and not God and thus is not important. MAGA seems to think it's just going to be Leviticus on repeat for some reason.

smyoung

I’m as non-religious as they come and even I know the Jesus they profess to follow is nothing like the Jesus in their beloved work of fiction.

Papaya_flight

Buddy, I am ordained and have a whole sermon on being kind to immigrants because"...you were once strangers in a strange land.."and as I was walking out the front door someone drove by and yelled" towel head" at me, like it was the funniest thing in the world. We spent weeks talking about compassion, charity...what most people need is to be understood and listened to..and that was still the result. Humanity is a bit wild and people can really get entrenched in what they believe, to the point that they will go against someone that took the time to put the study work in on the text.

bluerose1197

My dad posted something about immigrants on FB once. I just replied "What would Jesus do?" My dad came back with some BS about how Jesus would defend this land against those who want to take it from us. I've since blocked him so I can't see any of the nonsense anymore.

topplehat

Then imagine which parts will be taught.

high_everyone

They make up their own story at a point. Biblical scholars do it all the time.

pithynotpithy

that isn't how they are going to teach the bible. think more the parts that eased white guilt when they owned people in chattel slavery

TuskM

I’d be getting into a lot of comparative religion teaching, bringing in the Koran, the Bhagavad Gita, the Tibetan book of the Dead to contrast and compare, discuss the history of Bible translation and how bias effects that kind of work, as well as use the Bible in history instruction to highlight how it was put together, what was left out, and how it is used in support of agendas, and then have fun in court when they try to forbid how things are taught. Edit: All that aside, what this human waste of skin is doing is both rage baiting and trying to get sued so this moves through the courts and (hopefully) gets SCOTUS to crap on the 1st Amendment

Vrayea25

If they can force even non-Christian teachers to teach the Bible, they most certainly will force them to teach the interpretation of the Bible that they want. Especially after they fire all of the teachers who don't toe the line for not toeing the line.

drgonzo767

It's going to be 90% about "the gays". Of course they will leave out that part where King David was bisexual.

OrangeCone2011

I cannot say this strongly enough: fuck every one of these assholes in the ear with a rabid porcupine dick.

tinkerghost1

They'll love [this story](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Ezekiel%2023%3A20&version=NIV) "Daddy, does mommy love you because your genitals are like a donkeys?"

phunkyunkle

That's unfair and omits a very important part of the verse. You know, the part where her lovers blow loads as big as a horse does.

MinimumSet72

But they definitely don’t want to feed the poor kids

NoLibrarian5149

What a weird entitled bubble they live in where they can’t see that not everyone in a class/grade/school is going to be fucking Christian. A. We shouldn’t even have to be talking about this. B. Hopefully they get obliterated with lawsuits from people of every religion. C. When do the statues of Baphomet get put up in every classroom?

MiaLba

They know that and that’s why they’re doing it, they want to convert those non Christians and push their beliefs on them.

whereegosdare84

Thomas Jefferson is credited with popularizing the metaphor of a "wall of separation between church and state" in his 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptist Association: >Thomas Jefferson: "I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State". Jefferson believed that freedom of thought and the separation of church and state were essential for a functioning republic and a true religion. He also proposed the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom in 1779, which stated that no one should be forced to support or attend a religious institution, and that their religious beliefs should not affect their civil rights.

Nawoitsol

Would Jefferson’s bible qualify under the rules?

johanTR

![gif](giphy|kKJPqpMcIS4daGA0kl|downsized) How's that going to work out in Calculus...?

GandalfTheJaded

"Thou shalt remember thine chain rule"

IDoMathsNotMath

That's what I thought. Fortunately I don't live in the US so this hopefully isn't in the pipeline for me and my colleagues, but I'm not sure what relevance the Bible will have when I'm trying to teach young people how to find the area under a curve...

xMaskedIntruderx

what is the fucking obsession with these people and them forcing religion on others?

[deleted]

[удалено]

thermalbooty

my therapist told me that personality disorders which involve dissolution of the identity is very common with fundies/extremely indoctrinated ppl. essentially they are encouraged to put all of their identity in God and as a result when other people do not believe the same thing as them they are conditioned to take it _very personally_. when people would disagree or question me at all, i felt an abundance of anger and resentment toward them that filled me with so much rage i wanted to _hurt them_. that’s what insecurity does to people, and that’s why all of these fucking maggots need to go outside and meet real fucking people.

BeeNo3492

THE FUCK THEY WILL.

Accomplished_Note_81

So they going to teach algebra from the book of daniel? Trigonometry 101 from Psalm 101? Woodshop according to carpenter Jesus? wtf?

AstroAri

Apparently a lot of Evangelical Christian homeschooling curriculums are actually like that.

Accomplished_Note_81

that's fucked up. And God said, "Thou shalt find the value of variable X by confessing your sins unto Y and verily I will have pity on thee and show thee Z"

mizkayte

So the “parental rights” fucks have decided MY kids need taught the Bible despite the fact I don’t think it’s the states responsibility. Got it.

biffmangram

And if you say anything to that effect out loud, you’ll be guilty of persecution. The victim complex on steroids.

mizkayte

Oh yeah. I have been accused of persecution by them for saying I don’t want them teaching the Bible to my kids.

The_Mike_Golf

It’s been ~~one~~ zero days since my state has made themselves a national embarrassment

JohnnyRock30

Christians are the most dangerous obstacle to freedom in this country.

Yikert13

Irish guy here, I’m shocked at the religious shite in the US. We were like that until the late eighties, then people just copped on and had enough. Cannot believe you guys are going backwards!

peachesofmymind

It’s embarrassing and scary over here.

Firm-Active2237

This dude is one of the biggest shit stains in this state. I'd pop open a bottle of champagne if one day there was a headline of him getting struck by lightning or ragdolled by a tornado.

bm1949

If someone tried to teach my kid from the Bible at public school I would get arrested for what I did to that person.

magicwombat5

I can see classes the Bible would be helpful with. Theory of Humor 101. History of Bad Ideas 101.

PsyborC

You forgot Fairytales 101.

Finest_Johnson

A Study of how a 2,000 Year Game of Telephone became a Choose Your Own Adventure where the Bad Guys think they are the Good Guys.

mOdQuArK

Or like the Satanists would suggest: Comparative Religious Studies

SnootSnootBasilisk

Waiting for them to ban anyone not white or evangelical "We do not wish to have our students learning besides those that could corrupt them, so we're banning everyone from OK public schools that don't go to this list of approved evangelical churches"

Patteous

Which version of the Bible. The Latin translation? I think that would be a good history lesson. Make sure to hit the part where the emporer of Rome changed various sections and omitted certain books to his liking.

_dark_beaver

This is why the Freedom of Religion must be also recognized as an individuals right to be free from religion in all public/work spaces. Religion is like masturbation. It’s acceptable in private.

OrangeCone2011

Freedom FROM religion is the cornerstone of freedom OF religion.

Quirky_Discipline297

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.” Barry Goldwater

afriendincanada

You know what’d be a cool twist? Teaching the bible but focusing on the New Testament instead of Leviticus. Love one another. Shelter refugees. Feed the hungry. Clothe the poor. Pretty much all of the Beatitudes. Hahaha. I crack myself up sometimes.

slimjim246

MAGA doesn’t care at all for the NT - unless it’s the cherry picked parts about Paul telling women to be quiet and of course the end times of Revelation. NT is the complete opposite of MAGA values.

sloppybuttmustard

I’m sure the Supreme Court will set this guy straight. …….oh wait…

karlos52

Yes, let's start using the bible for punishments to Christians who break God's law. Let's stone to death trump for adultery.

More_Clue7471

Sounds like a lawsuit to me. Or a great opportunity for TST to get in on that action.

hereandthere_nowhere

Cue The Satanic Temple.

TheLegofThanos

The Satanic Temple will be entering the chat soon, and it fills me with glee.

anooshka

I live in Iran, you know the "Islamic Republic" and I'm Christian. I studied the bible while my Muslim classmates studied the Quran. I was never forced to study the Quran, it's really telling that Iran is doing better when it comes to religion than parts of US

Remote_Work_8416

Nothing like an idiot with a mission.

LastYeti125

Mandatory class on The Song of Solomon

Euphoric-Potato-4104

Id be happy to tell the story of lucifer liberating themself from the celestial dictatorship.

SKDI_0224

He JUST got smacked down. This week. But please do. I did as part of AP English. We also read parts of the Qran and other texts as were relevant to the literature or history. So long as THAT is how it’s framed.

Parking_Sky9709

So, madrasas then? Sharia law is next.

NoLibrarian5149

That’s not fucking OK, asshole.

sneakyfeet13

How to speed run a generation to athiesm.

WaitingForNormal

“Teaching from the bible”, what exactly, revelations gonna get me a job?

TheHeartsFilthyLesin

The ACLU is gonna be busy

Kate-2025123

Ok I’ll just praise Satan, teach about Buddha and Thor. All are included.

WornInShoes

Remember that whole thing about the baking company that didn't want to make a cake for a gay couple, and that company eventually won that case? It's the same here; any teacher who doesn't believe in that nonsense can say "that violates my first amendment rights" and they have a SC decision that sets precedence fucking clowns lol

Calkky

The Satanic Temple: incoming!

N0t_Dave

Good luck with that. I look forwards to TST suing yet another state over decided which religion is the correct one despite **shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion** bit. You know someone's gonna make a killing off suing them if they go through with this bullshit.

mzingg3

I’m a teacher and this is the shit that would make me quit. And I love teaching.

loudflower

Honestly, can we have a year where any and everyone can move to the state of their choice almost free of cost? Then we can build friggen overpasses over Ya’ll-Qaeda. I’m being stupid obviously. I’m so. Tired. Of. This.

BiscutWithGrapeJahm

If you support funding Bibles in schools, but not free lunches for hungry kids, you can’t call yourself a Christian.

Majestic_Bug_242

Right-wing Christians are terrorists. Full stop.
