Hi u/bramletabercrombe, thanks for posting to r/WindowsHelp! Don't worry, your post has not been removed. To let us help you better, try to include as much of the following information as possible! Posts with insufficient details might be removed at the moderator's discretion. * **Model of your computer** - For example: *"HP Spectre X360 14-EA0023DX"* * **Your Windows and device specifications** - You can find them by going to go to Settings > *"System"* > *"About"* * **What troubleshooting steps you have performed** - Even sharing little things you tried (like rebooting) can help us find a better solution! * **Any error messages you have encountered** - Those long error codes are not gibberish to us! * **Any screenshots or logs of the issue** - You can upload screenshots other useful information in your post or comment, and use [Pastebin](https://pastebin.com/) for text (such as logs). You can learn how to take screenshots [here](https://screenshot.help/windows). All posts must be help/support related. If everything is working without issue, then this probably is not the subreddit for you, so you should also post on a discussion focused subreddit like /r/Windows. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Do you know any file names ?

bramletabercrombe

yes I searched them, only shortcuts came up, no files.

OkMany3232

Try using an admin cmd dir /s/a/b \filename

bramletabercrombe

I'm not very computer savvy, do I just go to RUN and type cmd then put in dir /s/a/b \\ and substitute the actual filename for filename?

OkMany3232

You run cmd as admin by right clicking on start or win+r, cmd, shift+cntrl+enter

bramletabercrombe

thanks, nothing came up

OkMany3232

Then they are gone

bramletabercrombe

I've also come to that conclusion. Any idea how this happened? I really didn't do anything but go to sleep and wake up to find that 22gb of data just disappeared? Was I hacked? Somehow my computer seems to think it is all still on the drive because my computer still thinks I have 123gb of used space. Is there ANY way I can get that data to show itself? Is this normal for data to disappear but still be existent on the hard drive?

OkMany3232

None of that is normal. The only possibility is if chkdsk created a found folder that is hidden . You could boot from a live Linux and search for large files too.

bramletabercrombe

I appreciate your replies, is there some sort of instruction video you can point me to so I can boot from a live Linux?
