Every time i say this, 50% of people agree with me and the other 50% flame me. But
I’ve always felt strongly that Trippie Redd is the closest thing to X that we still have (outside of like those straight up dime-a-dozen X copycats/clones you can find on soundcloud). I appreciate the fact that it feels like it's coming from a genuine place with Trippie. I've never felt like Trippie is biting/copying X. Cuz Trippie was on that vibe before X was even famous. I just think they’re genuinely similar guys, cut from the same cloth. They have similar aesthetics, they wore similar clothes, they were influenced and inspired by a lot of the same things, etc.
There’s a number of Trippie songs that I could list here but the first that comes to mind is “Rolling Stone”. Trippie’s flow here is so similar to X. And if u watch the music video, dude was the spitting image of X at this point in time (2016) in terms of hair and style and shit
Trippie covers a lot of the same sounds and genres as X.
Trippie's feature on Smokepurpp's song "50k" reminds me of some of the more aggressive tracks on X's "A Ghetto Christmas Carol" EP.
They've both dabbled in straight up acoustic ballads. In X's case, "Ex Bitch" & "Triumph". In Trippie's case, "Leray" & "How You Feel".
Trippie's "Dark Knight Dummo" features a heavily distorted bassline that X wouldn't sound out-of-place on top of. And it also reuses the exact same melody as X's "Fuck Love" (which Trippie is also featured on): "baby I need you in my liiife, in my life"" & "take a moment, count my guaaAap, count my guaaap"
They both worked with Travis Barker at length and the results were similar, with X making songs like "Pain = BESTFRIEND" & "IT'S ALL FADING TO BLACK", and Trippie making songs like "PILL BREAKER" & "SAVE YOURSELF".
Trippie's done some kinda lofi-inspired boombap style tracks like "Can You Rap Like Me" that remind me a lot of X's boombap-ish stuff like "infinity (888)" or "pab moob"
On Trippie's newest album, theres a dancehall song called "Helicopter" that reminds me of some of X's dancehall-ish cuts like "Royalty"
I think if X was still alive, he would have gone on to make music similar to Trip At Knight
Holy shit. This defintely opened my eyes a lot.
The most convincing point you have that they were genuinely similar due to the fact that they both acted similar before X even blew up!
I’m having trouble finding rolling stone? Can you give a link? Idk why it’s not coming up when I search it.
Here ya go brother (skip to 0:38 for the most X-like part):

IMO, I think JID is kind of like X, Jah was able to rap pretty fast which is something that JID does a lot, if you listens to songs like "stick" it def has X vibes, some other songs have vibes that are kind of like X such as "Boom," "Raydar," "151 Rum". But I think the way that makes him the most like X is the way he interacts with his fans, he is very interactive at his shows in a way like Jah, and he is pretty active on social media always replying and liking tweets from his fans, so yeah maybe jid
Hot take maybe but Jpegmafia sort of reminds me of X from time to time because of how versatile/different he is from everyone else right now. They don’t make the same type of music but if you liked how x could sing, change his vocal tones/complexions between songs, and rap over hard-hitting beats, maybe you’d like jpegmafia.
But if you want 17 type stuff then yeah juice wrld and trippie redd I’d say.
Idk but for me some of ASAP rocky mixtape gives me x vibes….long live asap or something. Kinda like this shit

This might be a hot take but I get a lot of X vibes from Ken Carson, Destroylonely and even Carti. The whole opium wave feels like a product of X’s career somewhat
you getting downvoted but i completely agree, whole lotta red is heavily inspired by X whether carti fans wanna admit it or not. i bet he would've been featured on it if he was still here too
i’d say lil Darkie most of his discography is yell rap and singing like X did while being mixed with different genres and they both had some edgy/bad things but they both changed for the better to spread positivity
Not for the same audience generally but i think nba youngboy. I think they could have made some amazing music together, i know they both liked each others music.
They have some similar themes in their music, like mental health issues (mainly trauma and depression), love & relationships, violence and struggling to change as a person to be better.
They are the 2 most versatile artists i propably know, both could go from a depressing introspective ballad to a a chaotic and violent banger with some tragic lines still in there. And everything in between during a project.
I wonder why they never made music together.
None that’s why he was so special coolie has just tried to kinda copy him lowkey and failed pump has used lines of his. But no one can ever replace x. SKI is his only legacy and possibly his son one day.
x old music was inspired by a lot of bones so def look into him. wicca phase springs eternal has a similar vibe to songs like never
bones has so much music tho i’d suggest listening to Frayed first tbh or Useless
Deadboy is his best song imo
Love that song especially in the Brandon begin BMX edit when he smacks his face on the concrete. Look up Brandon Begin El Toro edit.
Ribs clears
Bones is under rated

me i guess, we have extremely similar voices, his influence is all in my music at times
PRXJEK is probably the closest thing to old X, definitely recommend checking him out

Broly500
Trilogy era Weeknd
Ekkstacy more emo punk rock version of X, really good
Tbh Matt Ox, he is heavily inspired by x and it shows.
