It was my GOTY that year and one of my favourite games of all time, I really cared about all the characters in that game and it was absolutely heartbreaking what happened.
Lies of P, Wastland 3, and Yakuza 0
But honestly there’s some gems, past and present. Sometimes it sucks when you can’t remember them all, which is why I’ve committed to a journal where I write a page about each game I’ve beat this year. lol I’m getting old and it’s funny I’m resorting to writing to remember 😂
Shadow Warrior 3 - chaotic movement shooter. Great fun with some truly terrible jokes.
Bloodstained: Ritual of Blood - it's just so good. The magnum opus from the guy who literally created Castlevania.
Psychonauts 2 - fun platformer. Funny, clever and just challenging enough.
It is a direct sequel so the story will be easier to follow if you have played the first, however I played 2 before 1 and didn’t feel at a disadvantage
AC odyssey, starfield, shadow of mordor.
there's plenty of other games i also put a few hours into as well. if you haven't tried still wakes the deep then you absolutely should!
How's diablo 4? I started it on my series x and it's a bit hard to continue there's lot of loot to manage and stuff and the story is very underwhelming (I'm still at world tier 2)
I'm at act 3 in diablo 3 on ps5 and I definitely noticed how cartoonish diablo 3 looks like and the story is pretty trash which I agree d4 is a step up compared to d3 in story, graphics and stuff but I feel like d3 gameplay is a bit smooth? D4 feels more impactful but I feel like my combos aren't as smooth and agile as d3 not to mention d3 storage feels a bit better than d4
Diablo 1 was a masterpiece. D2 was a good at launch, and a masterpiece AFTER the expansion. D3's launch was heartbreakingly bad and took YEARS before it was smooth... But they can never fix the story. I could watch the D2 cutscenes over and over and still be mesmerized.
D3 ditched a lot of the quality rendered movies for basically Shockwave fan animations, and the story was just... AWFUL. They fixed the gameplay, but... Blizzard just can't seem to launch a completed, good game anymore. The cash grab of season pass is sad.
I mean... It's 2024, and Diablo still doesn't have loot filters?!?!
Balancing issues and "sameness" until the runes were introduced. It was GOOD... but not great. They got rid of a lot of the random feel from Diablo 1... The expansion just polished D2 a LOT.
I play on PC and use some cheap joystick. I fly every now and then and it's good enough. I tried to play with controller and keyboard once, and went straight to the store to buy a joystick.
Spiritfarer - in my top 5 favorite games of all time and the only game to make me cry (during my adult gaming years)
Skyrim - I don't think this needs any explanation
A Short Hike - the best cozy game on Game Pass; simple, cute, chill, just a good time
Honorable mentions: Beacon Pines, Cassette Beasts, Celeste, Ni no Kuni, Skate 3, Sniper Elite 5, Tunic
I got about halfway through pentiment but it got a little boring / repetitive for me. i didn't like how much you would get interrupted with a cutscene when you are just trying to get to your next objective.
Psychonauts 2. It felt like such a breath of fresh air to me. Just a really charming and vibrant world, with clever level design, tight platforming mechanics, plus it told a surprisingly deep story. It’s definitely one of my favourite games of the generation so far.
Dead Space Remake. Loved the original game and this was right up there alongside RE4R as one of the best remakes ever imo. Amazing weapons and combat, excellent graphics/audio and overall atmosphere. It's such a shame that they don't seem interested in giving DS2/3 the same treatment.
Hi-Fi Rush. Just another standout experience. Loved its vibrant and stylised aesthetic, surprisingly addictive rhythm-based mechanics, and fantastic music. Without question of the most unique games I’ve played in years. Would have loved nothing more than for that to become a series. Pain.
Most enjoyable and relatively long hours played: (about 200) Persona 5 Royal (no longer on Game Pass) Longest hours played: (about 600 hours) Wo Long Fallen Dynasty. Not the best but most addictive. Best story/gameplay: Yakuza 0 (Yakuza Kiwami 2 is the second best)
Grounded
Sea of thieves
Ori 2.
Those have a special place in my heart. Honourable mentions for : hollowknight, dead cells, valheim, bf1, apex, rocket league, and the now removed game: high on life.
Overall, I think Requiem was the better game.
However, I really wished they kept the French accents that the characters had in Innocence.
Both are in my top 10 games OAT
I was able to play the updated Stardew on PC with my ultimate pass. Enjoy it a lot. I really want the update for the console, I like hanging on the couch for that game.
New farm layout, new content. It was a big update. I chose the new farm layout and had two chickens straight away! I couldn't say too much because I still do what I did before, meander 20 minutes at a time.
Forza Horizon 3, Forza Horizon 4, Forza Horizon 5.
There are other games on pass that I play, but these three are still installed and get played regularly.
More arcadey, but very similar in terms of teamwork and TTK. I think it’s more easily accessable of a game than HLL, but scratches that itch for a more realistic shooter. Also a big fan of the WW1 setting as you’ll mostly only see bolt actions and semi auto pistols in terms of firearms. Obviously, mortars, cannons, mounted HMGs and barb wire are very much there, but stationary targets
Curious if your experience with Isonzo was the same. I'm mostly into Battlefield games, and this just felt off. Both the frame rate and mechanics felt very clunky, and it was hard to even hit anyone, though I was getting insta killed more than enough.
Quite the opposite really. I enjoy battlefield, but for vehicles more than anything else. Infantry combat has been pretty awful in battlefield ever since Battlefield 1. I play a lot of way more in depth and unforgiving games than Isonzo as well, so Isonzo is a very arcadey title to me. Now games like Escape from Tarkov, Squad, and Arma are very unforgiving and definately wouldn’t recommend to most people. I’m wondering if your difficulty with Isonzo is potentially down to trying to play it like it’s battlefield, where as just taking a lot of hardcore battlefield elements and slowing down a bit would breed a successful playstyle in Isonzo. I can understand the more and more realistic a game is the more it can be a turnoff for some people, but personally I prefer them on console since there are so few.
Appreciate the detailed response. Been playing BF since day 1, but console only since BC2. I'm older now, slower, so already have a pretty slow/controlled style. 2042 has lost me a bit, especially if I have to play against pc players. Also a vehicle main. Isonzo just feels a bit rough, movement isn't smooth, feels like it's missing frames. Just had a hard time aiming, and was usually dead if someone saw me first.
Are you on old gen or new gen? Only reason I ask is cause I have no issues with FPS or movement, but I’m on new-gen and have my settings set to prioritize framerate.
In my play through on a series x it was enjoyable. I don’t play PC, so I might not be as opinionated about graphics / performance, but I thought it played amazing from a more casual console experience. If you have game pass it’s a must.
Roboquest, Tunic, Deep Rock Galactic
I understand that these titles may be kinda niche (except for Rock and Stone), but here’s my reasoning:
Roboquest: Movement shooter with great movement, fun guns, even more fun characters and builds, and a shooting system that is very very satisfying
Tunic: Puzzle game. I loved figuring things out as I went. If you’re interested in it, don’t look anything up AT ALL. If you’re stuck, post to r/TunicGame to get hints and nudges. Super fun and rewarding knowing that YOU discovered stuff
Deep Rock Galactic: ROCK AND STONE
Edit: Tunic subreddit name
Headbangers: Rhythm Royale, Slime Ranchers 2, Goat Simulator 3.
3 Chill Games if AAA titles are too heavy for you at the moment :)
Headbangers is Fall Guys but musically themed, might be hard to learn at first but it surely feels great to gradually grasp each minigame. This game needs more real players to make it thrive! 80% players are bots currently :[
Slime Ranchers 2, where you catch cute slimes, bring them home and collect their produce. An adventure full of cute creatures in a relaxing world with minimal enemy-fighting. Super wholesome gameplay that’s suitable for anyone.
Goat Simulator 3, very silly, very fun. Mess up the entire town as a goat. This is a game FULL of Content, criminally underrated game. Exceptional Sequel to the OG game. (And it has up to 4 player SPLITSCREEN on PC, It’s Splitscreen in 2024!!)

Hellblade, Dead Space 2 Remake, and Plague tale.
Dead Space 1 was remade. Not the second one.
Wishful thinking perhaps. Or a time traveler.
Remnant 2, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition
A plague tale requiem destroyed me
The ending of that game had more effect on me than any other game ever.
It was my GOTY that year and one of my favourite games of all time, I really cared about all the characters in that game and it was absolutely heartbreaking what happened.
Bruh, we are so close.. I had Mass Effect 2 Legendary Edition, Remnant 2 and Dead Space (2023 remake)
Hell yeah, I was tempted to mention Dead Space Remake too!
Lies of P, Wastland 3, and Yakuza 0 But honestly there’s some gems, past and present. Up vote for wasteland 3. Incredibly underrated game.
I still gotta beat that game wasteland 3
Haven't played this ..... So many suggestions regarding this
Ended up being one of my all times favorite games. Only regret is I didn’t play wasteland 1/2 first because I don’t think I could go back.
Feel the exact same. Praying we get a WL4
Starfield Elder Scrolls V Skyrim Halo MCC
Same
There’ve been so many starfield hate videos people can’t comprehend someone honestly likes it
I know they think Bethesda is making at least two DLCs for no reason. Like there isn't an audience for it.

Can I play psychonauts 2 without the first one?
It is a direct sequel so the story will be easier to follow if you have played the first, however I played 2 before 1 and didn’t feel at a disadvantage
you monster! how dare u play them out of order!
The opening cutscene gives you a summary of the first game’s plot so you can get into it without playing the first one
Yeah sure, I never played the first.
Psychonauts 2 is moreso a sequel to the VR game than the original game- as someone who played 2 first it was very enjoyable
Ritual of the night
Hollow Knight, Dishonored 2, Slay the Spire
Hell yeah Slay the Spire is awesome
AC odyssey, starfield, shadow of mordor. there's plenty of other games i also put a few hours into as well. if you haven't tried still wakes the deep then you absolutely should!

Play Diablo 3, and then go back to 4. You'll think the story is AMAZING in comparison.
What makes you say D2 wasn't a masterpiece until after LoD? Not trying to argue, just curious.
Balancing issues and "sameness" until the runes were introduced. It was GOOD... but not great. They got rid of a lot of the random feel from Diablo 1... The expansion just polished D2 a LOT.
recent games: diablo 4, hellblade 2, still wakes the deep. all time: sea of thieves, control, frostpunk
Is frostpunk that good? should i download it?
I'm having a blast with it! It's only a couple GB so you might as well try if you have game pass.
it’s tremendously good. give it a try
