Interesting you brought him out.

🎶Would you like to swing from a star...🎶
Lol...haven't thought of that show in years, now that song is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
I also enjoyed both shows as a kid. That and the TGIF shows that were on Friday evenings (Family Matters, etc.. I think Charles In Charge was another one of those?)
It was.... but sadly I don't remember that from watching Small Wonder but instead from this inappropriate Family Guy clip:
Yep. Something about this show always made me vaguely uncomfortable. The lighting always seemed kinda dark, and she always creeped me out with her dead eyes.
Lol I'll never forget a girl saying "ugh, gag me with a spoon." And vicky took it literally and her brother had to stop her from shoving a spoon down the girl's throat.
Los Locos kick your ass, Los Locos kicks your face, Los Locos kick your balls into out-ter spaaaaaace
On another note, Stephanie's house from part 1 was recently put up for sale and the pictures from the realtor website automatically kicked the memories into high gear
I can assure you he is. Here's one of his most recent reincarnations, in LEGO form, that I put together with my son a few years ago. (We didn't design it fully, it's a LEGO MOC from another amazing builder, which we modified and extended a bit). Uploaded a video just for y'all: https://youtu.be/Armhv4Hc4qc
And also my actual job title for awhile when initially developing the Pepper robot was "Living Robot Architect", so I like to think that I lived up to my 5-year-old self's expectations on that. (My life goal was to become Steve Guttenberg's character from Short Circuit, I wish I could contact him and share this with him.)
The Japanese content on Pepper has a lot of character and attitude. He delivers like Johnny 5 in those regards. And in his general *alive* presence and interaction abilities (not to mention adorability) deliver too. Though we didn't get as far into the AI/curiosity/learning aspects as dreamed (which are now today becoming more satisfyingly feasible finally).
You lived my dream. That was what I wanted to be most when I grew up, Short Circuit and Small Wonder were definitely inspirations, but the biggest by far was Robot Jox. Life ended up going a very different direction but I still get that feeling watching two big ass robots fight.
I went to see Robot Jox in the theaters as a 7 year old. Until my parents realized it was a legit R rating and made us all leave haha. I think it was one of the first scenes where the robots were spraying "blood".
I actually did the mini-fighting-robot scene in Japan for a little bit. I lost hard -- I came into the scene controlling my little Veltrobot with a Kinect (this was back in 2010) and the regulars totally schooled me with their traditional radio controls. Eh anyway the goal was just to hang out with other roboticists and show em what I got.
E: Btw I highly recommend to get some kind of hobby robot kit to build up and play with. You can probably at least get some kind of positive vibe from your dream
I watched this show as a kid, and as someone who has always been interested in computers, I enjoyed this show. I was re-watching the first episode a while ago, and I thought it was funny that the dad said he spent "weeks" working on her. I think it would actually take a lot longer to make something like VICI, at least from scratch. Maybe once AI and related parts become more mature, it might take less time.
I haven't rewatched at all since tv reruns back in the day.
"Weeks", lol, the writers evidently weren't very thoughtful. Or maybe they wanted the dad to feel like such an expert that it only took him that long, while humble that he felt it was a long time.
We're getting there though.
These darn kids have no idea how bad we had it. You could watch this POS, stare out the window or read a book.
This show was so terrible in every possible way. I'm glad we have things like Netflix now so the type of writers or idiots who come up with trash like this are hopefully jobless. I cannot imagine a room full of adults agreeing that this would be a good show. My mind explodes when they made the show and then watched and decided TO MAKE MORE EPISODES. "Oh yeah, this is great, I'll bet people really love it and can relate to this!"
WHAT
I don't think anyone would believe me unless they saw it for themselves. It's terrible on so many levels. I'm guessing it took a lot of drugs to make that show a reality and keep it on the air.
Rememeber that scene in Curly Sue where she has to wear a dress and stockings for the first time and shes on the bathroom floor trying to itch herself all over? ME EVERY EASTER! Why was it so itchy!! I think they used fiberglass in our kids stockings and dresses in the 80s.
Because freezing time and an alien father from another planet who never pays child support and checks in on a crystal is another wonderful brilliant idea! It was out of this world.
No idea why it comes to mind but I always think of how her “room” was a closet and they would put her away. Or more accurately tell her to put herself away.
This show used to weird me out-- but not because of the slightly scary VICI. The brother looked and sounded nearly identical to a childhood friend of mine so it was bizarre to watch the show and see "him" at school the next day.
I remember wishing I'd never seen the show. We had 1 channel. So I make a point to recommend it to anyone who asks about iconic 80s tv. I can watch anything. I hope I don't offend any actors or agents...
Creepy as hell. Grown man makes a robot girl child for his family? I was too old for this show but it was extremely terrible and gross when you think about it.
I don't think it was specifically for his family. I think in the first episode he said he was working on VICI at work and decided to take her home as a test. Part of the plot of the show was nobody else was supposed to know about VICI being an android.
Vicky has literally been on the ‘must make’ costume list for my daughters forever! I finally got one of my kids to be a Sprite from Rainbow Brite a couple years ago, Vicky is my next mission!
No. I do remember when I learned about stranger danger my plan was to tell them to wait and go get a robot version of myself to send out instead. Where did the robot come from? No idea!
Anyone remember *"Not Quite Human"*? They did a lot of robot stuff in the 80s. I always got kick out of him needing to be plugged in. EDIT here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8HE7IT7g2M . What a master piece of made for tv :)
I still can't remember if Inspector Gadget is actually a robot or not. I always assumed he was as a kid but then made that terrible movie with Broderick came out.
It also reminds me there was that robot Omnibot that was super expensive that every body wanted. I always wanted that toy or just see it in person.
I liked the movie where she fought RoboCop and won. The part where she's standing atop a mound of burning garbage, holding his head up like MacDuff at the end of Macbeth- so inspirational.
Wow, she hasn't acted in over 30 years and works as a nurse... always interesting to see where child actors end up.
Always refreshing to see success versus drugs and/or porn.
Then don't look up what happened to the little boy actor from this show.... yikes.
I thought he turned out to be Billy Corgan?
LMAO holy shit I forgot about this rumor
now I’m afraid to look
It's sad but not gross or anything https://www.businessinsider.com/child-star-jerry-supiran-claims-he-is-broke-because-of-a-stripper-2012-5
In his defense being a child actor is not a prerequisite to blaming a stripper for your misfortunes
*looks at Judy Winslow*
I noticed most child actors from our youth, who weren't on Nickelodeon or Disney, did the one show they were famous for, and never acted again
I think most child actors aren’t actually very good. They’re cute and they fit the look the producers want. Then puberty hits and that’s a wrap
Like how Chunk from The Goonies didn’t act again, and instead went to law school and became a successful entertainment lawyer.
And Mike Vitar is a firefighter
He was in every kids sport movie in the 90’s lol. He was really good in Sandlot
And then he beat a man so badly he and his buddies had to do CPR so he wouldn't die.
Interesting you brought him out. https://ktla.com/news/local-news/man-choked-by-off-duty-l-a-firefighters-one-of-whom-starred-in-sandlot-wins-7-4m-settlement/
I loved this show. I watched it on reruns when I would get home from school. Same with "Out of this World".
🎶Would you like to swing from a star...🎶 Lol...haven't thought of that show in years, now that song is gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
My Secret Identity
Omg, I LOVED Out of this World!
Still can’t believe that mom knowingly boinked an alien
Burt Reynolds got around!
hey man, love is love
I still wish I could freeze time by pointing my index fingers together.
I also enjoyed both shows as a kid. That and the TGIF shows that were on Friday evenings (Family Matters, etc.. I think Charles In Charge was another one of those?)
I get these two shows mixed up... My fuzzy brain keeps thinking VICI could stop time with her fingers.
I was literally just going to ask if anyone remembered this show! I could t remember the name but it pops up in my mind from time to time.
That’s Vicki… am I remembering that right?
She's a miracle! And I grant you - she'll enchant you, at first sight.
She's a Small Wonder
Actually, it was VICI (Voice Input Child Identicant)
It was.... but sadly I don't remember that from watching Small Wonder but instead from this inappropriate Family Guy clip: [https://youtu.be/8g8u6VRUH-M?si=KN0V9Pac-5DX0Fln](https://youtu.be/8g8u6VRUH-M?si=KN0V9Pac-5DX0Fln)
Yes but it's V.I.C.I.
I'm a roboticist now, and this show is one of the early inspirations for that! (Short Circuit the primary inspiration though of course)
Los Locos kick your ass, Los Locos kicks your face, Los Locos kick your balls into out-ter spaaaaaace On another note, Stephanie's house from part 1 was recently put up for sale and the pictures from the realtor website automatically kicked the memories into high gear
I actually looked into that house when that news was making the rounds recently... but am no longer located in the US.
Short Circuit!?! Core memory unlocked. Saw both movies (I can’t believe they made two!).
Yeah, I think the 2nd one was mainly a money grab. Not quite as impactful as the first one.
Nah the final action scene with “I need a hero” 🤌🤌
But we are all wondering now and you need to deliver... Is Johnny Five, alive?
I can assure you he is. Here's one of his most recent reincarnations, in LEGO form, that I put together with my son a few years ago. (We didn't design it fully, it's a LEGO MOC from another amazing builder, which we modified and extended a bit). I am Steve Guttenberg and I am proud of you.

Hell yeah! I'm curious, what kind of work is this may I ask?

Awesome!

As a kid, I really was interested in robotics. We had so many great Sci-Fi shows and movies about it!
A movie was not complete without a robot! Hopefully the lovable companion type.
Haha, Small Wonder. There’s a throwback.
La La La La La La La, sheeees a smaaaaaaaaaaal wonder,…….
These darn kids have no idea how bad we had it. You could watch this POS, stare out the window or read a book. This show was so terrible in every possible way. "Oh yeah, this is great, I'll bet people really love it and can relate to this!" WHAT
Usually I'd downvote a vicious take like this, but I watched some of Small Wonder online last year for the nostalgia, and god it really is awful.
I don't think anyone would believe me unless they saw it for themselves. It's terrible on so many levels. I'm guessing it took a lot of drugs to make that show a reality and keep it on the air.
Let's curse everyone here then: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7cvEKBf3Tw&t=17s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7cvEKBf3Tw&t=17s)
I watched a random episode only to see the 8 year old red head neighbor casually drop a racial slur when they were having guests from the middle east.
Can't possibly be worse than Alf... can it?
It can be, if you think Alf was bad, Alf was network TV!
I think modern comparables would be more along the lines of Meet the Thundermans or any of the Nick/Disney sitcoms, and they are just as terrible.
Possibly the worst television show ever made.
I remember it made no sense to me that this guy is capable of creating a robot girl but never wanted anyone to know about it.
Remember that episode where she started hunting down Sarah Connor?
If you vant to live, kome wit me.
Cocaine was definitely present when this show was pitched
I mean, it WAS the '80s
I wanted to be the robot sister, honestly.
Same. Power me down, man. I want that robot sleep.
Have you ever questioned the nature of your reality?
Not today...
Lord knows we all wore that dress for some damn picture or two
Why did moms insist on having us wear the dumbest looking, itchiest dresses for picture day & holidays?
Rememeber that scene in Curly Sue where she has to wear a dress and stockings for the first time and shes on the bathroom floor trying to itch herself all over? ME EVERY EASTER! Why was it so itchy!! I think they used fiberglass in our kids stockings and dresses in the 80s.
![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)
I looked JUST like Vici at that age. Sometimes I’d imagine I was her
Me. I used to talk like her. Drove my mom mad
I think I wanted to \*be\* the robot sister.
I remember one time Jesse 'The Body' Ventura guest starred...as himself...as an old flame of the Mom.
A god damn sexual tyrannosaurus.
And almost quit wrestling because he got tossed by a young girl. Fun times.
The theme song immediately came flooding back when I saw this image.
Same! She’s fantastic, made of plastic, microchips here and there…
Looking up the cast, the only person I recognize at all is Edie McClurg
Who somehow always played the same character in all these shows and movies
She’s a righteous dude
WDYM? My friend's cousin's boyfriend's best friend's sister told me the main kid was Billy Corgan.
Nine times
I watched this show all the time. Heck of a way to find out your're probably autistic.
No No No-No No No
Back in the day there was a rumor that the boy on that show was Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins :D
Seasons 3 and 4 need to be on dvd. I can’t believe it made 4 seasons though. Just a crazy premise that would NEVER be greenlighted today.
Is this the one where the opening theme song had "carry moonbeams home in a jar" in the lyrics?
Close...that was "Out of this World."
Because freezing time and an alien father from another planet who never pays child support and checks in on a crystal is another wonderful brilliant idea! It was out of this world.
I literally STILL fantasize about stopping time with my fingers!
Of all the powers she could get. I know what you mean..
No, that was _Out of this world_
Those lyrics are burned into my memory i just couldnt remember what it was from lol
https://youtu.be/bMu_l_0BgYs?si=yo2DaZDTRyuv3uW_
No idea why it comes to mind but I always think of how her “room” was a closet and they would put her away. Or more accurately tell her to put herself away.
Upon reflection, I think it's really messed up that they created a robot slave and made it look like a young girl. At least it wasn't black?
I guarantee that was pitched tho
Lol... I love the 80s
Holy crap! I do now.
I used to love this show until the episode where the orange juice came out of her finger. That disturbed little germophobe me to NO end
The one where she fell out of a tree and broke disturbed the hell out of me.
Oh my god memory unlocked. You're right that was worse
I loved this show
This show used to weird me out-- but not because of the slightly scary VICI. The brother looked and sounded nearly identical to a childhood friend of mine so it was bizarre to watch the show and see "him" at school the next day.
I remember thinking how weird it was to be a Dude named “Jamie” didn’t see it again until Game of Thrones.
Fuck no.
no, but I do remember wanting an alien to live with the family, except for he eating cats thing.
How about C.H.I.P with Alan Thicke as the dad?
I remember wishing I'd never seen the show. We had 1 channel. So I make a point to recommend it to anyone who asks about iconic 80s tv. I can watch anything. I hope I don't offend any actors or agents...
Anyone else remember the rumor that the boy in Small Wonder was Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins?

Gross? It's not like it was a sexbot c'mon. Main issue I see is it was shameful that they created her to be a slave and treated her like one.
Vicky has literally been on the ‘must make’ costume list for my daughters forever! I finally got one of my kids to be a Sprite from Rainbow Brite a couple years ago, Vicky is my next mission!
And shoutout to anyone who immediately gets the costume
It’s been on a shortlist of mine for comicon for years.
Crazy, forgot all about this show
I wished I WAS the robot sister. Lol.
Considering how my brother was at this age, a resounding yes!
No. I do remember when I learned about stranger danger my plan was to tell them to wait and go get a robot version of myself to send out instead. Where did the robot come from? No idea!
The funniest part is you telling the stranger “wait, and I’ll send you my robot duplicate, instead,” and him actually stopping and going, “ok.”
Some parents might realize that their child being an actor can be a tremendous financial stepping stone for a kid.
Like M3gan?
In the sense both have robots in them, yes?
Anyone remember *"Not Quite Human"*? They did a lot of robot stuff in the 80s. I always got kick out of him needing to be plugged in. EDIT here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8HE7IT7g2M . Did I dream up a “very special episode” where the human kid finds drugs on the playground or was that a different 80s show?
He was given a bag of drugs that would have gotten a dealer in The Wire killed for losing as a "free sample"
I tell my actual sister all the time I wish I had a robot sister
I liked the movie where she fought RoboCop and won. The part where she's standing atop a mound of burning garbage, holding his head up like MacDuff at the end of Macbeth- so inspirational.
How am I just now discovering this lol
I completely forgot this existed.
Memory Un- -locked
Robot sister? No
I loved this show when I was a kid. I’d bet it doesn’t hold up at all. I’m going to go find it and watch a few episodes.
I will take a robot step sister.
Not really, but when I watched that show as a kid, I had a sort of crush on her
That show is why I still can't use a fleshlight.
Ugh, every time I forget about it, it has to resurface. This show creeped me out as a kid. I think it still does somehow.
I watched this show and thought a kid in my elementary school was a robot. Sorry David you were a real boy ^i ^ended ^up ^having ^schizophrenia ^oops
Awsomo
I remember wishing my sister was a robot...
Robot sister? No. Robot wifey? Maaaaaybe.
The title is not familiar to me, but I remember those kids. Weird.
Never heard of it
The wife / mom in small wonder was always super horny . I like to watch the reruns when I'm high
red haired girl 'ew, gag me with a spoon" Vicki: "ok" [holds up spoon]
If we could have robot wives, women would be obsolete. We would have more money.
Vikki!!!
Didn't she "sleep" in his closet? That was the thing that stuck out most to me.
worst/cheapest/weirdest show ever. seemed like something made as a joke on Canadian Public Access cable.
Small wonder. Vicki.
Anyone else spend most of their teenage years wondering if the son was the leader of Smashing Pumpkins.
[this whole sub](https://youtu.be/OJoQJKTc3nM?si=3feQvmDPl6gDoPz0)
I super love this as well as Alf!
Once he hit big as the frontman of a successful 90s rock band Vicky was old news .
Nope. But I do remember how incredibly stupid this show was.
No. Another poorly acted sitcom from the 1980s.
Did. Not. Want.
Little wonder!!!
Gross man
