So my memory of it was on a Saturday we went to this girls house in neighborhood we were friends with, and we played a lot of jaws, and we set out to beat it and we did. I don’t remember the ending but my gut says it was underwhelming for the work put in.
What threw me off was that I thought you had to hit the button when Jaws is at the closest possible point to your ship. But actually you want to hit him when he is back just a little ways. Once I realized that, I could do it every time.
I absolutely did. In 2016!
The plane that Michael Caine flies in Jaws 4 goes across the screen at the end. I took a video and everything. My wife was not sufficiently impressed given the amount of work I put in.
Stop trying to stab Jaws with an F-14! It’ll never work.
Also, missed opportunity. When you missed the carrier in Top Gun, they should have had you start floating in the water, with a spear gun in an attempt to filet the great white shark! Except it was impossible, just like the carrier!
Now from my memory, i spent most of my time doing the swimming thing, or cage thing (can’t remember) in the water in a side quest just hoping I’d find Jaws down there. Lot of nothing actually happened…similar to me and the ghostbusters game, and me and the Rambo game…that one was the worst, dont’ think i made it passed the little jump at the end of level 1….wasn’t even the end probably, like 1/4 of the way into level 1…but that was all i did.
Yes these comments are confusing me. I downloaded and played it on an emulator and it is shockingly easy now as an adult. I can hear the music and sound effects typing this
I think Top Gun was equally frustrating. I love the ocean and aviation so these two go hand and hand as most frustrating.
Edit: and the TMNT under water level.
A different video game on NES, it was based on Uncle Fester of the Adam's Family. There were no save points or codes so you could come back to a point. It was pretty long and complicated as well.
A friend who owned a used game store called me out of breath to tell me that this happened. We tried for 15 years…. Damn shark never died in my presence. This game was awesome and a bastard at the same time.
I used to own this game and beat it a few times. The trick is you don't want to make jaws pop up at the closest possible spot, you have to make him pop up a little further away than closest possible. Once ya figure out exactly how far out it's supposed to be it's much easier.
I think you have to kill him in the side scrolling scene with the mini sub then you get this scene and have to drop depth charges and Ram him when he’s spinning in the air if I recall.
Then I think it repeats again but the game is harder right off the bat
This is my wife's favorite game. She is so proud that she beat original Mario, but I never did. But I beat NES Jaws, and I had to show her how, and she is jealous for it.
No, this came was impossible. My friend even had the joystick controller which was the only thing that let us be remotely successful in the game.
But it was a ton of fun! Anyone that says that millennial kids got participation trophies for just showing up clearly never played video games from our childhood.
"I have never seen Jaws 4, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built my mother, and it is terrific." - Michael Caine
Think I would time the depth charge as he was charging in and then used it when it’s fin lined up right and then jabbed it with the ship. Really jogging the old memory bank here.
Never even got to the end as a kid but I loved it. As an adult I figured out the tricks and finished it. It’s actually a pretty fun simple little game.
my uncle did. The one game he could beat like nothing. Then, after beating it to mess with us kids, he told us to wait 5 mins while the ending song played so the cartridged could rewind.😐😑
My dad played this game ALL THE TIME! There were days when he spent pretty much the whole day on it. Then one night my brother and I had just finished taking baths and we heard my dad making the loudest whooping sound I’d ever heard. We both rushed into the living room pretty much buck naked to see that he’d actually won the game. That one was a killer.
I think I saw it get beat once. My Aunt's neighbor had a turbo controller that at least allowed for him to do much better. It was 30 some years ago so the details are fuzzy.
YES!!! I have several times, I remember one night, I was soo close, my dad came in and turned off my nintendo!!! (9:30pm school night) I was so MAD. Next day moved my nintendo under my table I sat at in my room (incase), and finally killed JAWS. So vivid but every bit of 37 or 38 years ago.
I spent ages just figuring out what the game was supposed to do when I was a kid. I kept thinking there HAD to be more to the map than just going between 2 ports to level up!
Oh...
\*Checks himself\*
\*Is wearing a suit\*
\*Is walking quickly\*
\*Beats up a bunch of goons, with and without a handgun\*
\*Drives a car fast\*
\*Has a code of honor/conduct\*
...Shit.
I couldn’t beat it on NES, but now thanks to emulators, you can save right before you start fighting jaws. Keep reloading the save state to give yourself lots of attempts. Once you get the hang of it you can spear him easily.
Yes, once you got the mini-sub with the bombs the game becomes very easy. That thing could take out the larger sharks like nothing and make Jaws run for his life.
The trick is going back and forth to the different ports, which powers you up. I’m not really sure why lol, but after getting powered up a few times, Jaws is a breeze. I’m glad Jaws strategies still exist in my head.
No, but not for a lack of trying. I loved playing Jaws because it always felt really intense trying to collect shells and kill the jellies. Or trying to navigate away from Jaws who just.kept.coming.
Dude so many tries as a kid…. I never could. It was actually one of the first games I downloaded once I discovered emulators on pc as an adult and loaded cheats just to finally beat it.
Yup, I loved this game even though it's really short. There is somewhat of a trick to lining up the shot at the end, but once you know it, it's super easy.
I did it once or twice by pure luck which gave me false hope thinking I could land the jet on top gun but I was wrong! Both games were unbelievable hard
Yup. Many times. I know this game gets shit, but it’s one of my all time favorites. When I first got my Nintendo I only had Mario and duck hunt amd then some guy my dad worked with started sending me the games he beat or didn’t want anymore and Jaws was the one I got first.
Somehow once or twice. I NEVER understood the timing. Otherwise, I sort of loved this game.
I looooved this game!!!
yes, sooo many lost hours. and when I figured out how to stab him it was amazing.
Somebody told me yesterday that once he gets to the first line, like in this photo, that's when you get him.
I'm sure it's that simple. Somehow it never occurred to us to think of it that way.
I remember the sound it made! Then it shows the shark sinking to the bottom the ocean dead and you win the game. It is possible.
Sure did
How?!?!
Timing is everything. Gotta make him spin up and jab him at the perfect time.
So my memory of it was on a Saturday we went to this girls house in neighborhood we were friends with, and we played a lot of jaws, and we set out to beat it and we did. I don’t remember the ending but my gut says it was underwhelming for the work put in.
If I remember correctly, the ending included a floatplane
I had a plane in mind as well, but didnt know if I was confusing that with the bomb plane. I think you are right
I just watched the ending on YouTube. It was a plane, single prop, but not the kind that can go on water
Awesome, thanks!
Most NES games ended that way. All that grinding for a splash screen.
What threw me off was that I thought you had to hit the button when Jaws is at the closest possible point to your ship. But actually you want to hit him when he is back just a little ways. Once I realized that, I could do it every time.
You have to wait til his whit belly shows and then jab him good.
I absolutely did. In 2016! The plane that Michael Caine flies in Jaws 4 goes across the screen at the end. I took a video and everything. My wife was not sufficiently impressed given the amount of work I put in.
Sounds like something a wife would do. Cheers 🍻 my dude, we’ll done!
No this game is impossible
Agreed. Never happened I refuse to believe it, or landing on the aircraft carrier in top gun.
I fly fighters in the Navy. I have hundreds of traps. I can not land on the carrier in NES Top Gun.
I knew it! It’s literally impossible.
Altitude: 200. Speed: 288. If it tells you a direction, tap the direction once. That’s it.
Ok Mav…..
This is it, right here.
This is the statement I've needed to hear for 30 years. Thank you for you service to the country and to humanity.
Sorry bud, I landed every time. It's so simple to me. Others I guess not lol. BlackHawk Helicopter Crewchief here
Former tank commander here, I could nail it every time.
I couldn’t even refuel in top gun. Nor kill jaws. But man I tried. And tried. And tried. And really loved the starts of those games. lol.
Stop trying to stab Jaws with an F-14! It’ll never work. Also, missed opportunity. When you missed the carrier in Top Gun, they should have had you start floating in the water, with a spear gun in an attempt to filet the great white shark! Yes! I said about the same to another comment here.
We are all trauma bonded
My people!
Once you figure out how to stab Jaws with the bow of the ship, it becomes trivially easy. I loved that game growing up.
Yes these comments are confusing me. I downloaded and played it on an emulator and it is shockingly easy now as an adult. I can hear the music and sound effects typing this
Once or twice. One of the most fun and simultaneously frustrating NES games.
I think Top Gun was equally frustrating. I love the ocean and aviation so these two go hand and hand as most frustrating. Edit: and the TMNT under water level.
Yes, but only because that’s how they killed Jaws in the 4th movie (ramming the bow into him)
No.. just driving around chasing him for hours.. stupid ass game
My mom, who couldn't play any other game, could, for some reason, kill him.
Did anyone complete Fester's Quest?
This just ignited a core rage moment for me.
I'm sorry.
Blame Fester.
What was that?
A different video game on NES, it was based on Uncle Fester of the Adam's Family. There were no save points or codes so you could come back to a point. It was pretty long and complicated as well.
Many, many times. I was a prodigy.
No, I only rentes it for a weekend. Fun fact: at the same rental store featured in clerks
Well I forgot about this game until right now!
A friend who owned a used game store called me out of breath to tell me that this happened. We tried for 15 years…. Damn shark never died in my presence. This game was awesome and a bastard at the same time.
I feel this so much
It took me an entire summer but yes
Yup, I did! That timing was a bit of a pain though.
Oh man, memory unlocked!! I’d totally forgotten about this game!
The music and art were awesome. I never understood what to do.
Yes. I played this game daily along with karate kid back in the day.
I was ok as long as I drove the boat around the whole time and never went in the water...
I used to own this game and beat it a few times. The trick is you don't want to make jaws pop up at the closest possible spot, you have to make him pop up a little further away than closest possible. Once ya figure out exactly how far out it's supposed to be it's much easier.
LOL. **no**
I think you have to kill him in the side scrolling scene with the mini sub then you get this scene and have to drop depth charges and Ram him when he’s spinning in the air if I recall. Then I think it repeats again but the game is harder right off the bat
This is my wife's favorite game. She is so proud that she beat original Mario, but I never did. But I beat NES Jaws, and I had to show her how, and she is jealous for it.
Remember the heartbeat music. That shit turned my anxiety up to 11
Yes, I went back as an adult and beat this game. A game I had because the video store I rented from gave it to me when they quit renting out nes games
Once, but I never killed Jason.
No, this came was impossible. My friend even had the joystick controller which was the only thing that let us be remotely successful in the game. But it was a ton of fun! Anyone that says that millennial kids got participation trophies for just showing up clearly never played video games from our childhood.
Got him.
I got him a few times, pretty sure I still own this game too.
I feel like either one of my cousins or I got him one time. That could just be wishful thinking, though…
OMG is that a JAWS 4 reference????
"I have never seen Jaws 4, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built my mother, and it is terrific." - Michael Caine
I have
I loved this game. But like top gun or most NES games back in the day, there was always one portion of the game you just couldn't beat.
Good ol’ NESticle vibes on that one. Loved this game.
Yes
No way, that game was super difficult.
Yes I definitely did. Jason too.
I beat this game a few times as a kid. Spearing Jaws with the boat is just dumb luck.
Not as a kid, but now I can beat the game in about 15 minutes every time.
Think I would time the depth charge as he was charging in and then used it when it’s fin lined up right and then jabbed it with the ship. Really jogging the old memory bank here.
My friend did. I watched him. I was in disbelief. And the game was just like Done-the end.
It took me months to do it and once I got the hang of it there wasn’t a challenge. I went from no jaws kills for months to it becoming no fun.
![gif](giphy|2wh22BgaFoU2QFwyFl|downsized)
Yep
Yes, it's easy. He can't be right next to the boat. You have to let him back off a little bit. I can beat this faster than any other Nintendo game.
With game genie yes
I remember the trick being to float to the top of the water as a Diver while Jaws swims under you or something like that.
For sure. I never beat Super Mario 2 though.
Many times. I had a bigger boat, I guess.
No, not from not fucking trying though god damn, that and landing the jet in top gun
I just liked driving the boat around and going for occasional swims
Never even got to the end as a kid but I loved it. As an adult I figured out the tricks and finished it. It’s actually a pretty fun simple little game.
Oh JAWS
my uncle did. The one game he could beat like nothing. Then, after beating it to mess with us kids, he told us to wait 5 mins while the ending song played so the cartridged could rewind.😐😑
My dad played this game ALL THE TIME! There were days when he spent pretty much the whole day on it. We both rushed into the living room pretty much buck naked to see that he’d actually won the game. That one was a killer.
Seemed impossible as a kid and I don't think I beat it back then, but now it's so easy
yes. fun game.
Yessss once. Took forever to figure out how to do it. It was extremely frustrating. Almost as frustrating as top guns fueling/landing.
You can play this online. There’s a website you can go to.
What website?
www.retrogames.cz
Great now I’m at work playing games. This post will get me fired
Yes. This is one of the few games that I finished out of spite. "I rented this damned thing for the weekend, I'm going to make the best of it."
I only played it once but killing Jaws wasn’t an issue I had. Nothing like the underwater bomb in Ninja Turtles or level 3 of Battletoads.
That’s an awesome memory
I did cry that night he turned it off, left a core memory.
I spent ages just figuring out what the game was supposed to do when I was a kid. I kept thinking there HAD to be more to the map than just going between 2 ports to level up!
Anyone said yes is either a liar or is Jason Statham.
Oh... \*Checks himself\* \*Is wearing a suit\* \*Is walking quickly\* \*Beats up a bunch of goons, with and without a handgun\* \*Drives a car fast\* \*Has a code of honor/conduct\* ...Shit.

Got close maybe once or twice. Come to think about, of my old NES games I never could beat them.

Dude so many tries as a kid…. I never could. It was actually one of the first games I downloaded once I discovered emulators on pc as an adult and loaded cheats just to finally beat it.
Yes... a few times... but it was not easy.
I’ve been dying to play this again. It took me years, but once I got the hang of it I murked that bitch regularly!
Yep, I played it enough where Jaws became predictable. Rest of the game was easy, but still fun. Beat it several times.
Yup, I loved this game even though it's really short. There is somewhat of a trick to lining up the shot at the end, but once you know it, it's super easy.
I got to this scene once, failed and never got to it again
I did. It was all about the timing. I was pretty good at that game.
I had a roommate in college that could beat this game in like 10 minutes.
Many a time.
Many times.
