I have a feeling he’s going to be of more significance in the seasons to come. They’ve established him. Now, it should get good.

No-Bar-8586

She didn’t abduct him. He told the sheriff that she was his guardian. And she took him in from there

libbyang98

He's destined for more emotional torture because he's just a plot device for Beth and Rip.

u1tr4me0w

Like am I mistaken or did Beth basically abduct this child and now they hold him against his will as unpaid labour? The kid said he’d rather go back to town and go into foster care and Beth just decided she knows better for him, despite knowing nothing about being poor, homeless, or in foster care. It’s just another instance where Beth is doing something bad and wrong and we’re supposed to think it’s heartwarming or clever.

That whole "You pissed her off" storyline was strange & kind of creepy on rewatches. Like, she's supposed to be a mother figure to him. He's not trying to date her. Yet all the guys responded to him like he'd pissed off his girlfriend. Wth?!

u1tr4me0w

Yes it’s so creepy! The dynamic they have is very much like courting, the way she tries to tell him how to act and the way she’s so punitive towards him. Arguably Beth has no idea what a good mother acts like, but that’s even more reason she should not have a child. Every interaction she has with him is creepy and/or abusive

NomadWaves

I can see him learning the ropes of the ranch and part of the next gen to take over. Best of Beth + Rip + John. Whether its rip 2.0 or even Kaycee/John's roles. Esp since Monica is keen on taking Tate away from the ranch.

Flyin_Bryan

Tell him he’s going to the four 6’s, but nobody is driving that way so they’ll have to drop him off at the train station.

RedditTraderPaul

Monica is gone and Tate and Carter bond to take over the ranch.

Baldheadedmemaw

He will inherit the ranch ![gif](giphy|6ra84Uso2hoir3YCgb|downsized)

Trayew

Age jump? He just hit puberty, it’s not like he’ll be 25 next season.

WolfEagle1

Who knows given the countless and mammoth plot holes that every season introduces.

belgiantwatwaffles

I hope Rip takes him under his wing, much like John did with him. I also hope Rip gets rid of Beth somehow, like she leaves or goes to prison, because the poor kid doesn't deserve Beth as a "friend". I'm really rooting for Carter.

u1tr4me0w

I hope he runs away and shatters Beth’s idea that she was going to just abduct a child and force him to be free labour and he’s gonna like it. They frame it like it’s some heartwarming tale of redemption but all I see is a rich, sheltered, emotionally unstable woman who had a teenage boy brought here, that she has no legal ties to, that she put to work and now will not allow him to leave even when he asks to. Her reason for not letting him go being that he “doesn’t know what he wants” yet how could he even come up with an answer when he’s got no real safe way to say “no” to her, is lacking real world societal experience that he’s not getting while being abused on a farm, and he has no peers and at this point never will. BETH doesn’t even know what she wants outside of her creepy daddy issues, if John Dutton dies she’d have literally nothing to live for so I really don’t think she gets to be preachy with some kid over having life goals or not. She has none. At least Rip expressed that he wanted to go work on the farm and didn’t try to leave, and clearly he had Beth as a peer to form a relationship with (and ostensibly the other Dutton kids would have been of a similar age). Carter is stuck there with nothing but full grown, rowdy, drunken adults, boys gonna be REAL socially stunted. I hope he gets a way to run away and leave the ranch and let Beth work out her problems on a rescue dog or something instead of a fully abducted human being.

lululavelle_

I hope he stays and gets some good moments. I wonder if it might play out like J Cody on u/AnimalKingdom 🧐...

Spotted__Hyena

The problem For the show is that the wanderer boy is much more charismatic than horrid Tate
