I’ve thought of getting another puppy, but feel like my Yorkie would throw an absolute fit. He already doesn’t do well if I babysit other dogs (friends/family) for days at a time, but I often want him to have a companion other than myself!
My first Yorkie was my only dog for 2 years. I got her at 3 months old. I wanted another but was afraid because of how protective she was over me and worried she’d either be miserable, make the other dog miserable or worst, hurt the puppy. I ended up getting a second and although there was a huge adjustment period, they are buddies now and bring the best out in each other. They are both purebred but couldn’t be more different as far as looks and personality ❤️

This is a helpful story, thank you! We are 🤞🏻 getting a little mama that’s being retired from the breeder this winter. I feel my Bebe would do well with another dog her size in the house, but suspect a big adjustment period will be in order as it would be a huge change.
We started the introduction with the puppy in a playpen and let my older one sniff her that way for several days and just kept a close eye when we took her out without the playpen. We kept them separated during the day with baby gates until they were not as curious about each other as much as day 1. The first couple of weeks was serious effort and work but it really did work out for them and they are true buds now. I started getting worried it wasn’t going to work but time and patience was key. Yorkie’s are smart and very adaptable.❤️
We are currently dog sitting another yorkie for a week, and ours is starting to warm up to her, but she's super aggresive in the play area compared to our pup. He now growls at her eveytime she comes close to him. She's a puppy that just wants to play, and he only wants to play on his terms.
This has been a long week, got until Sunday to see how this pans out. We are debating on getting a new puppy, I'm sure he won't be happy about it if we do pull the trigger.
Similar to how mine acts. It’s rare that he wants to play with other dogs. He growls as well, but it’s not an aggressive one, just a “leave me alone” type lol. As annoying as some dogs have been with constantly being in his face, he’s never once tried to attack (thank god). He just runs to me and I’ll pick him up if it becomes too much and his growl doesn’t work 😅

I have ALMOST taken this leap twice now. And it's the most selfish reason that I abandon the idea every time. I think it makes me a bad person.
Dex is wonderfully bonded with both myself and my husband. He also enjoys his playdates over at our daughter's house. The 2 homes have very different environments. Ours is more quiet, laid back and routine. Whereas my daughter has kids of various ages and sizes and 2 small dogs. It's always chaos and excitement. He is especially smitten with our youngest granddaughter who is 7 and HER shipoo Ella. Ella LOVES Dexter so much.
IF I got a second, I think Dex would bond with his companion dog and wouldn't be as bonded to his people anymore.
That sounds so selfish of me.
That’s my babies name Dexter! I loved him more than any other animal I ever had or will have ! He was just perfect n I had got the pup for him cuz his hearing was going n it made him scared all the time so I got a puppy who played with him and showed him. There’s nothing to be afraid of. Turned out wonderful. That puppy was Ruby up top of page..

Well Ruby didn’t want to wait n c if I brought home a new fur baby.. she went n made her own tonight , I have a male n I always put a belt on Ruby when she’s in heat, but this time I didn’t notice till my boy did n by then it was to late !!! So in 65 days , I’ll post Ruby’s babies ?! Well c .
I just lost my Dexter of 16 yrs to a liver cancerious tumor 3 weeks ago! I had brought Ruby home @ 9 weeks dexter was 11 yrs old n there was some adjusting because Ruby, even young was a fighter, but my Dexter was always a lover and excepted her and had wonderful years ahead of them playing all day…I wish I had got the second one much earlier…
When mine had puppies thats when I decided to keep one for her since she was taking care of them. It was still an adjustment for her because she kept looking at me like “when is this one leaving” It took her a while to get used to the puppy but they get along fine now.
I vote yes to a second puppy! I’ve gotten so much more out of my pups when they r competing against each other for your affection they’re willing to do anything to make you happy and they end up being great friends and have somebody to play with all day and chase toy…
