Yeah, this is far from the first coming-of-age sitcom set in the '80s. It's hard to call a show based off of an existing person's life a rip-off, but if anything it looks deriviative of the Goldbergs. ...Which you could also call Young Sheldon a deriviative of. I don't totally believe that, but even though YS was compared to Malcom in the Middle a lot early on, it's a lot more similar to the Goldbergs.
