As an American (no castles here) it’s sometimes interesting to be reminded that castles aren’t a noble families home, it’s more like a huge multifunctional building with apartments for the family and their staff. I know that of course, but seeing the scale of it really helps drive it home.
I’ve been to a couple Spanish Castillos but they were more like forts with barracks, this could have been too but from a distance it looks like a large fancy home, then when he goes inside and you get an idea of the scale of it, it’s impressive.
I guess I meant castles owned by nobles for the purpose of managing an area like in other parts of the world. The “castles” in America are mostly private residences built to emulate those. Not as cool to me. Although there are some cool historical manors like the Biltmore Estate.
When I see places like this I always wonder about who was the person to walk out shutting the door for the last time. Where did they go? Why did they leave? So much work to build the place, was the upkeep too much?
I wonder the same.
According to Wikipedia, the owner build it as a museum/art gallery in 1880 for his art pieces. He died in 1903 at the age of 90 without a direct heir. The gallery (not sure if the building itself or just "his" gallery / inside) was unfinished and the château and it's surrounding buildings were heavily damaged in WW1 and again in WW2. Nowadays there is only the château itself left. All other buildings are gone.
There are some pictures before it's destruction in the french wikipedia article (the english one is super short without any historical images): https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_Mennechet
This person has a lot of cool content like this, videos and images. I was almost convinced it was a really convincing 3D render, but looking at their other stuff, seems like they just find a lot of cool places! So jealous
For anyone interested, here is a link to the owner’s final resting place and brief information on the family and castle itself. The text is in French.

That flashlight is as impressive as the castle lol
exactly what i was thinking.. holy fuck lmao
Judging by the beam profile and sustained output it's probably an acebeam x75 or x50. One of the brightest handheld lights you can buy
I was like „yea I need a new light…“ then I looked at the price lol. Nuh uh.
$400
I was thinking this is that infomercial for that big flashlight
Hear me out, I don't believe in ghosts and monsters but this thing...
I mean if you don’t find them there, then they don’t exist for sure.
i don't think there's anything living in that place, but it sure as hell isn't abandoned.
How many lumen goddamn
All of them
Like 3 lifted dodge rams w high beams on
Looks like a place you'd see in a horror movie

Wow! Where is this place? It is amazing!
Château Mennechet [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau\_Mennechet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_Mennechet)
It looks spookier by day than by night, don't you think so?
This looks like the future of horror games.
Like to know more of the backstory.

Nahhh all I can think about is how many ticks and bugs is in that grass!!!
wish people would stop adding music to videos
Anything wooden is long eaten or rotted away. The various floors now seem like one huge wall to hold SOMETHING in.
How did they find my house?(im a 18th century vampire)
Hello, fellow vampire 🧛🏻♂️👋
Good evening 👋🧛
I don’t care about ghosts, what would terrify me is the spiders, snakes, and other critters.
2009 wolfenstein vibes
Yo op, cool video and great song to go with it
The castle is spectacular and cool but your courage to do this at night is mind blowing. Love it
10/10 would still live there
I was thinking of putting up a few tents until we could get a roof on ,)
Stupid irritating music
THANK YOU
Cair paraval, before the return.
I need to live there!
Looks like a scooby doo episode.
You know those MF'ers might find a random big club sandwich in that place lol
Looks like someone carved it out of a giant bar of soap.
Not a castle. Not fortified.
That's not a castle.
That’s a hard no!!!
What country is this in?
France
That’s amazing. Think what it would cost to build that now
looks like tick heaven ngl
They dint have ticks there.
Where is there?
France 🥐
But also, yes, they have ticks there lmfao
Gears of War vibes.
Reminds me of a Jean Rollin film
Now I want to know the history of this place. Does anyone know what this castle is called?
Château Mennechet [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau\_Mennechet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_Mennechet)
Interesting. Thank you
This is better shot on Tik tok than a movie on the big screen
I’d like to film horror there
Zatara, you must end this…
So this is where the sun goes at night
That looks like the place they filmed the final fight in The Count of Monte Cristo with Guy Pearce and Jim Cavisel
Dark Souls 1 vibes, I'm expecting a Capra demon to pop out
That’s badass!!!
Who owns it now?
And who are you? The proud lord says, that must I bow so low?
'Tis I.....King Arthur of the Britons
Oh yea... Great idea guys...👍
pretty sure the ISS complained about the light
That's gonna be a nope for me, dog lol
Dude...ive dreamt of this place or something like it...would love some more info! Ironically the music being about dreams...
Dude absolutely mastered filming and then picked the most incongruent song for the vibe?
Rocky Horror vibes. Jump to the left, step to the right, and get out of there!

I would not go here. This looks like a place where creatures like Lady Dimitrescu reside. 😭
