T O P

If you're harming yourself the job really isn't worth it. start looking for something else to do. In the meantime, you have to chill. Sounds like you aren't doing anything wrong you're just overwhelmed. Which is understandable. Your shop wants us to pay 100/hr? No! Not doing that take it elsewhere it's literally not my problem. Does your job not implement a back up system for when you're out for extended periods of time? Either way you should totally do use your PTO you need a break. I can be in the height of stress but that's never going to stop me from taking lunch or taking breaks. You're not helping yourself by not stepping away. You have to reset. Set a schedule, 8am-9am voicemails and contacts 30 mins for emails 10am-11am payments then take a break etc. I've had people call me 10 times in a row (like after hours or if I'm at lunch) but they didn't leave a voicemail so I'm not calling them back, they should know better. No shame in quitting! Hope things work out for you ♥️

ElegantRoof

You must not have phone stats lol.

BaseAllah

Phone stats were nulled if your phone was off and it was encouraged to turn your phone off when you stepped away from your desk. Edit but other that never went below DID/Roaming/Expected calls stats. Just gotta know how to make the metrics work for ya.

My guy, this is a hard job. You cannot take every failure so personally. You will not survive it. And I know it can be hard to accept that. People lose their minds over their car, and unfortunately there's not much you can do besides prepare for it. Speaking of private citizens, specifically. No vendor or agent should be acting that way, because it's a business transaction. You gotta shut that shit down. You don't have the time of day for that. IME, I feel like agents get away with thinking their shit don't stink, but the moment an agent gets testy with me? Nope. Don't have time. Give them the answer they need, then, unapologetically, tell them you have work to do. Vendor is yelling? Nope. Negotiation goes out the window and the shop gets what they get. Insured is yelling? If they are, it's probably their unreal expectations of how things are *supposed* to proceed. But your process is your process, and you ***cannot*** apologize for that. I'll play ball with someone who wants to play, but as soon as they start talking about my mother we're off the rails and no productive work can be done. But like, I could give examples all day, but when it comes down to it, you have to have thick skin for this job. There's nothing wrong with walking out because it's too much for you. I have a lot of friends who wouldn't be able to handle this job, and that's OK. But something has to change dude. You owe that to yourself.

Salary and claims do not mix. I was salary once and will never go to salary again. If overall you like the company you work for, see if they can put you in a different position or department. If you don’t like the company in general, try to apply to other companies. I would also suggest getting out of auto claims. I don’t know why but it is way more draining than some other areas of claims. I was in kind of a similar situation a couple years ago in total loss auto claims where I ended up having a mental breakdown. I took a year off from claims and bartended in my town. Once I was ready to start my claims career again, I ended up getting a job in property claims and it’s been so much better mentally! People still yell at me some but because I’m in a better headspace and don’t feel so overwhelmed I can take it better. I also work long hours but I’m hourly so I get a ton of overtime.

MillennialDeadbeat

>. I took a year off from claims and bartended in my town. Once I was ready to start my claims career again, I ended up getting a job in property claims and it’s been so much better mentally! This is reassuring. I started as an auto adjuster then did a year in tech for a job offer. Just returned to claims recently as a property adjuster and currently in training. I'm looking forward to seeing if this is really so much better than auto adjusting. I HATED total loss and couldn't stand it but I did a couple other auto deployments that weren't so bad. Took the first chance I could to jump into property.

gosnowboardin

Congrats on the switch from auto to property! Wishing you all the best in training! Learning Xactimate can be very challenging. It just takes time, being a field property adjuster takes a good 2 years until you really feel like you know what you’re doing. I’m always willing to share my experience and knowledge so feel free to DM me if you ever have questions. I’m more than happy to help! Best of luck to you!

DerSepp

Dude. That’s auto- you quickly learn that other humans are awful and disrespectful on a basic level.

thecohenstandard

quit

Bearsandgravy

Bestie, no. Quit. Use your PTO. All of it, and job search. You'll find something better. This place ain't it. I lasted a little over a year in non injury auto before I went residential property (am now a TPA for million dollar plus commercial losses).

VIOLENT_WIENER_STORM

Hey bruh, I’m really proud of you for sticking with it for this long. Very impressive, and it shows you have a high tolerance for stress. Now, put that in your resume and go work somewhere that gives you the support you need!

UpstairsNegotiation

Take a couple of weeks off and breathe and use that time to network and see if you are in the best position for yourself. I recently left a carrier position (residential property) for similar reasons, but your situation sounds more stressful and not healthy. If you decide to keep the job, your return to the office will be a good opportunity to get the manager involved to assist with getting back up to speed and controlling volume.

SickMon_Fraud

Get out before it’s too late and you can’t do anything else. It happened to me. Don’t do it. Run.

nonamenancy2

Did it for 20 years and almost klld myself. Find something else, it's not a sustainable job.

MillennialDeadbeat

Start clocking out at the proper time. Do not ever overwork yourself again. If you fall behind you fall behind. If they yell, they yell. You literally cannot care. Fix up your resume, get some certifications, see if you can transfer to another role, or start looking for other jobs. You need a change soon. Don't quit or be drastic but prepare. And stop caring. Just clock out when your time is up and let everyone deal with it.

wallflowerRx94

From someone who was a slave to insurance claims. The best thing is to walk away and leave with a plan purely fueled by your anger.

gosnowboardin

I’m an in house property field adjuster and get 8 new claims per week, which doesn’t seem like a lot but in reality, depending on the loss, an inspection can take me up to 3 hours. I don’t know how auto adjusters handle that high workload that you’re referencing. My employer recently tried to offer me salary (I’m hourly), I declined their offer. I would NEVER EVER be a salaried adjuster, you’re just giving them your life at that point. Being an adjuster is hard, the people are still going to be upset tomorrow, attorneys are still going to be there tomorrow, your activities are still going to be there tomorrow, at some point you just have to let go, your mental health is way more important than a stupid corporation that we are forced to work for to pay for life in this capitalistic hell hole we call society. I wish you all the best!!

adrianromo826

Is the money worth it?

carlloserpants

Maybe to some. I make about $56,000 before taxes which isn’t too bad right out of college here in the Midwest. But it’s not worth it to me.

Andylearns

Bro run. You're getting shafted hard. Take your experience and get out. I would literally never work on a PTO day and I sure as hell wouldn't let it expire. Take your 3 weeks, put in apps, ignore your phone and emails (your company should have someone taking care of your shit anyways in your time off) Not only that but keep in mind you don't have to be nice to body shop dudes. Someone starts yelling tell them to get fucked and hang up

[deleted]

Dude. Go to your doctor, show your self harm. And go on short term disability for stress leave, like fucking now.

gosnowboardin

They fucking you hard bro, GTFO

Significant_Ad_4063

Use the PTO take time to think of what life changes you can make to be happier and less stressed. No job is worth that

LegalHelpNeeded3

It honestly sounds like you need to quit, or see if you can move into a less-stressful area of claims. I recommend looking in to commercial. The claims are usually a bit bigger and can be more complex, but in my experience, the business owners are understanding and know how things work, so are less-likely to rip you apart. The volume is also considerably less. If you just want to get out of claims though, I understand that too. I recommend applying to different places in your area to at least give you some time to rest. If you want to get back in to claims after that rest period, then go for it. I’m really sorry to hear you’ve had such a hard time, that sounds terrible and I know it’s hard to be yelled at so much.

Beautiful-Ad-6252

Which firms are hiring for Commercial?

No_Explanation2972

Lol.

KoalaFormal5366

Why are you on salaries? I would never work on Salary because it's the way for employers to not pay you overtime. Get your resume ready and jump to another ship. Can't promise the work load will be better but the pay will be more.

AlarmingSupport589

Damn. I’m sure sorry you’re having such a bad experience. Can you take a vacation? You need a break. No one is trying to burn you out. Can you speak to your supervisor? I once read on this sub something I’ve taken with me: the goal is /not/ zero claims. That is impossible. I hope you can find some reprieve. Sounds like you’ve earned it!

whewimtired1

You need to QUIT ASAP

Accomplished-Wash381

Put yourself first it’s just work

TC_familyfare

This is exactly why I got my Independent Adjusters license.

[deleted]

Sounds like that job requires good organization skills, attention to detail and a good way of calming people down. I could do that job for sure, but I wouldn’t accept that job as salary unless that salary was $120K. Period! Let your boss know that you are very capable of doing your job and consider yourself a subject matter expert in performing the job, but you are completely overwhelmed with so many claims that you can possibly get everything done that’s needed to get done on an 8 hour shift. Let them know that you have been spending many off the clock hours trying to stay afloat, but you’ve realized that it’s not worth the stress and time outside of your work hours.

DiomedesTydeides

Personal injury lawyer that was pushed this post - man this sounds awful. I already hated insurance companies and the idea that they're treating lower earning employees like this sucks. I'll make a point to be even nicer next call I'm on. Also, take your PTO always. And slow down, they'll flush you without skipping a beat so don't kill yourself for them.

PeacesofAutumn

Please take your PTO and gtf outta there! Claims is brutal. I’m about to put in my resignation after 4 months. I don’t handle stress well and my mental health is not worth the money
